Briggen, the brawny warrior prince, is plucked from a hostile planet by the powerful wizard, Quinhelm, beginning his desperate plunge into the midst of an interplanetary war. Briggen and Quinhelm rush home as the powerful Xandoth and their allies surge across the galaxy, killing and laying waste to everything they encounter. As Briggen confronts the evil Sorceress of Endih, squabbling nobles and an assassin on his home planet, the great dragon Ephereon abducts the good sorceress, Telana, instructing her in the ways of magic. To her astonishment, Telana learns that she is the Chosen One, the one foretold by the ancients to lead the people of Mantasi to a stunning victory. Telana joins forces with Briggen as they battle the Xandoth for supremacy over the planet, and magic and courage triumph over the powerful forces of evil.
Currently working on an exciting audio drama entitled LUSTRIAS. This is quite an epic. Think a futuristic Lord of the Rings and you'd be pretty close! Check it out at http://www.greenmoonprod.com.
I have been writing novels, poetry, and screenplays for over forty years. BRIGGEN, my third release, is an exciting science fiction/fantasy that will have you perched on the very edge of your seat until you turn the final page.
In addition, I am a veteran of the stage, singing and starring in the lead role as the tomboyish Princess Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress, which gained me an invitation to audition for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. I have received the National Thespian Award and has appeared in numerous additional theater productions in New York, Michigan and Maryland, including The Admirable Crichton, The Crucible and The Pajama Game.
"Though sci-fi is not a genre I typically read, I found Briggen to be an engaging blend of medieval fantasy and sci-fi--and hard to put down. At 476 pages, I thought it would take me a long time to read. It did not. As the story progressed, I found myself pulled in by empathetic characters and their impossible dilemma. Briggen, the warrior prince, reluctantly returns to the very place he had run from eight years previous. His home. Home has changed in his absence and, upon his return, he is challenged for the throne as he claims his right to it. To add fuel to the fire, he also faces political unrest, a massive invasion from warrior tribes that will lay waste to his planet if they are not stopped, and another unforeseen and powerful enemy that is too close to home. Alone, Briggen has not the power to face so many battle fronts at once, but united with an orphaned freighter pilot named Telana, an old wizard, the Alliance, and a fire-breathing dragon, Briggen finds his odds greatly improved. Ann B. Keller has written a wonderful story. If you love sci-fi and you love fantasy, this is an entertaining mix you don’t want to miss. Loyalty, love, friendship, and duty are all addressed, making Briggen a life lesson to us all. Briggen will draw you in until the very last satisfying sentence."
Briggen, a medieval sci-fi fantasy masterpiece. After eight years absence, and learning of his brother’s murder, the warrior prince, ‘Briggen’ returns to Neimus to be challenged for the throne. He faces political upheaval and an invasion from warring tribes wanting to desolate the planet. In addition, a sorceress plans to destroy the kingdom, seducing an ally and using unnatural powers to aid her schemes.
Like Briggen, Telana, an orphaned freighter pilot and ‘Quinhelm’ an old wizard, have telepathy and telekinesis abilities. The last of his kind, ‘Ephereon’ a fire-breathing dragon, protects the thrown, joining Briggen in his trials and tribulations to stop evil.
Ann B. Keller’s ability to vividly describe her many characters, places and events is a credit to this wonderful author. She leaves no stone unturned in this adventure of magical kingdoms and characters, giving a few hint to more adventures to come. Keller also bring her character’s to life, expressing realist emotions, love, hate and everything inbetween.
Briggen is 476 pages and worth readying every sentence. The author is a master with words, yet ‘Briggen’ is so well written, one can easily keep up with all that is going on, holding your attention to the last word. Briggen is a must read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
Briggen is a tale of ancient meets futuristic. It is a blending of old-world sorcery, mysticism and traditions, with a world of characters and technology along the lines of the Star Trek universe. I happen to be a really big fan of both. This is a very unique and well-told story about a long-lost prince who forfeited his royal place, a lonely orphan piloting a freighter carrying a rag-tag group of survivors searching for a home, plagued by insecurity that she will fail them, an evil sorceress who lusts for power, and enemy alien races single-mindedly laying waste to everything in their path. Their paths all intersect on the planet Mantasi, a world steeped in ancient traditions and simple ways, with a rich history, much of which has been lost to time, to betrayal, and battles long-ago fought. Heroes arise, villains take aim, and a fascinating world of magic unfolds.
My favorite aspect of Briggen is the main characters and their complex relationships with one another. They quickly and easily grew on me, I felt a real warmth for them, I enjoyed them and rooted for them. Ann B. Keller is a talented storyteller with a wonderful imagination. Briggen is a thoroughly enjoyable and highly entertaining novel that will please fantasy and sci-fi fans alike.
Briggen was the right book at the right time for me as a reader. It really reminded me of the good old days of the space opera, when flying through space with neutron torpedoes blazing full blast and with a beautiful girl on your arm was presented to me monthly by several wonderful magazines. I do not mean to imply that it was dated, because, it wasn't. It was a wonderful tale of right versus wrong, with a great love story and a dragon. If you are a fan of this genre, it's a must read read.
