A witch reality television show, a deadly curse, and a vampire on a mission--a perfect brew for love.
During the live end-of-season Tell All episode of the reality television show, Witching Wild, cast member Judith Kress opens fan mail expecting the usual personal questions, but gets cursed instead. Vampire Calvin Blake is charged with saving her life and discovering the source of the curse, but ends up in deeper trouble than he thought possible. Survival is going to be a dangerous affair until dawn.
** Until Dawn was previously published in the Taming the Vampire boxed set. **
Erin Kellison is the bestselling author of the Indulgence series, the Dragons of Bloodfire series, the Reveler series, and the Shadow series. She writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and fantasy. She loves other worlds and visits them as often as possible via movies and books and her kids' imaginations. When not daydreaming or writing, she's goofing off with her family in sunny Arizona.
Ok I have recently been enjoying the Dragons of Bloodfire series by this author but hadn't expected a novella about the 'spider' who works for one of the powerful , deadly Bloodkin. Calvin knows his natural bloodlust is kept in check by the mercy of his mistresses blood but when he's sent out to find out what's happening to her favourite television witch it's a life changing decision . Judith doesn't quite understand her powers but when she gets a nasty surprise in the post there's a much nicer one in the shape of the mysterious Calvin. Now if only she could survive until dawn and beyond! Yes it's short but it held my attention . I was really keen to find out just what being a vampire who is a 'spider' meant and the author didn't disappoint. Her description of his movements felt really creepy at times but it's the Bloodkin Lady he serves that is really frightening . Alas as its short I can not really go into too much detail but if you enjoy romance with a paranormal twist you really should check this author out. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy
When your Bloodkin employer tells you to go save her favorite reality television star from certain death you do as the Lady commands especially on those evenings when she is more dragon than human. That is how Calvin Blake finds himself at the Witching Wild season ending tell all. He’s perfectly okay with this though. He has watched Judith Kress on the show from the very beginning. To say he is completely smitten with her would be an understatement. Judith had a couple ulterior motives for joining a reality show about witches. She wants answers to the questions her father never answered. She would like to understand a few things about herself instead of bumbling through it as she has been for so long. All of that gets tossed aside when what should have been a simple fan letter gives her a weird papercut that only a sexy stranger of a vampire can heal. The even weirder symbol on the letter sweeps her away on a crazy adventure, Until Dawn. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read of Kellison’s Dragons of Bloodfire world thus far. Her spin of dragons, vampires, and other paranormals is just different enough to make them beyond intriguing. The dragons and their borderline crazy is the best! Judith and Calvin have such a short amount of time together that the ending of this novella really worked for me.
Read as part of the boxed set- Taming The Vampire. Nicely written short, witchy, dragon, vampire story, though I would advise not to read this novella without reading the other books in the series first. I was a bit lost re characters. Might have to investigate the previous novels. 2.5 stars.
Vampire Cal is on a mission. Find out who’s trying to harm reality tv star (and witch) Judith and eliminate the threat if necessary. This author kept the illusion that it was going to be a simple tale but the story was so neatly told and full of surprising turns that before it was over it was obvious it was nothing I thought it would be. I liked her different take on vampires and how they ranked among the other beings in this world. For such a short story it had plenty of action, drama, and a sweet ending. I hope there is more from this couple or at least from Judith's “coven” because they sounded like fun. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.

“One night. May the best witch win.”
Until Dawn by Erin Kellison is a novella in the Bloodkin world of the author’s fabulous Dragons of Bloodfire series! I read it as part of the Taming the Vampire boxed set. Now it’s available on its own! Even though it’s labeled as #2.5 in the series, it can be fully enjoyed as a standalone read, if that is your preference.
This is the story of vampire Calvin Blake and of rookie witch Judith Kress. Calvin serves Bloodkin Lady Evangeline Marguerite Beatrice Fane. As a vampire, his choices are limited within the Bloodkin universe; to serve or to prey; He elects to serve Lady Fane, an elderly dragon who sustains him with her powerful blood.
Lady Fane and Calvin are fans of a reality television show, Witching Wild, in which Judith is one of a trio of the show’s newbie witch stars. While watching the latest installment, Lady Fane and Calvin witness a devious act of magic committed against Judith, their favorite cast member. Worried about Judith, Lady Fane tasks Calvin with saving her and taking out whoever had targeted her. Of course, things are never that simple.
I loved Calvin and Juidth both! Calvin is a knight-in-shining-armor to Judith’s up-and-coming witch. I enjoyed watching them learn, trust and grow individually - and as a couple - as they worked through multiple life-threatening crises. Their off-the-wall sex scene was something I won’t soon forget! LOL! I think I’ll go read that part again!
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Until Dawn:
“Oh, the envelope did contain magic,” a strange, low voice said from the doorway. Judith looked over. She forgot her cut and her coffee. And how to breathe. The tall, broad man filling up the door frame looked like a warrior angel with gold hair falling into his eyes, a pale-gold undertone to his skin, and ‘heartbreaking’ green eyes…. “Any magic that involves blood is a grave threat,” he continued. “And death by paper cut would be a long and tedious way to go. I can help.” --- Apparently, she was going to visit an evil witch with a scary poet vampire. --- “Vampires aren’t noble?” “No. We serve or we prey.” “Like monks?” He frowned, confused, and then gave a soft chuckle. “Prey, as in hunt. No God would hear our prayers.”
I loved this story! It was everything I have come to expect from Erin’s Bloodfire books except the primary characters are not dragons. Vampires and witches with dragons on the side totally work for me! This tale was hot, quick, funny and highly entertaining. I would highly recommend Until Dawn to anyone who enjoys imaginative, fast-paced, action-packed paranormal romances!

I had a mix of things going on today that led me to pull up a novella, Until Dawn by Erin Kellison that gives us another glimpse at the Dragons of Bloodfire series! Though this time, we're following a vampire servant around rather than the dragon itself.
Lady Fane is an old and powerful dragon and a huge fan of the show Witching Wild. When she sees one of her favorite hosts, Judith, have her life threatened she sends her vampire servant, Calvin out to go protect her. Calvin of course does his lady's bidding willingly.
Judith is a witch with a curse on her from another witch. If she can manage to stay alive until dawn, she will get to stay alive and Calvin is to be her protector in the remaining hours of the night. Naturally, there's a little bit of romance thrown into the mix but there's also a good deal of danger from curses to zombies to a vampire's hunger, there's plenty that might end up offing Judith before dawn!
Naturally with short little reads like this, there's never quite enough to satisfy the reader! We get a nice glimpse into the vampire side of things when it comes to working with dragons. It kind of made me miss my dragons that I've met before though we do get a glimpse of one of them however briefly!
It was a short and sweet read though I guess this is why short stories don't always work for me as I'm left craving more! Still a fun little read to the series!
Until Dawn - Erin Kellison - 3.5 Stars This novella takes pace in the Bloodfire Dragons world where vampires are quite a bit different than the usual take on them. I really enjoy the series but this one was a little different and I don't think there was enough time to really get to know Cal and Judith. They seemed more friends than lovers and the sex scene where they had it "on the wall" not up against it was just weird. I think if you hadn't read this series then the vampires needed a little more explanation.
Judith is on a reality tv show about witches but she doesn't really know what to do with her powers. She is cursed by a rival witch who wants her spot on the show. Cal is sent by his dragon patroness to kill the offending witch...because the mad dragon is a big fan of the show.
I just didn't like this, Judith was a goody two shoes who thinks everything is sunshine and rainbows, Cal is a whiny brat, Lady Fane was ok and all of the secondary characters were annoying.
This a great paranormal author that has hit her mark with the Bloodkin World. Any of her series will suit a paranormal fan. In this day of reality TV is is a funny quick read with a vampire and a witch. "*A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. An entertaining aside in the Bloodkin realm between a clueless witch and a despised spider. It's a bit quick, but doesn't feel horribly rushed despite that, and is an enjoyable short read. Worth checking out if you enjoy that realm!
This story is short, but really cute in a slightly scary way. A good witch, a bad witch, an eccentric slightly mad dragon and a vampire. Worth reading.
Whoever thought paranormal would go primetime? This quick read brings this possibility to light. Witches, dragons, and a vampire make a curse disappear.

Read as part of the anthology: "Taming the Vampire." Wasn't a fan of this novella. I haven't read this author before, and I don't think this was the right book to start with. Even though I didn't care for the character build-up, or story-line I might still give this author another shot.
Erin never fails to write intriguing stories and this one is no exception. Judith and her two friends are regular cast members on Witching Wild. Judith is a witch, who has been trying to learn her craft on the show, but she knows nothing about channelling her natural abilities. Elizabeth’s dream is to be on the show next season, being brought in as a fourth cast member. As a real witch, Elizabeth intends to challenge Judith, but instead a simple papercut creates a blood bond between the two; now only one can live. Bloodkin Lady Fane and Calvin, the vampire who serves her, have a special fascination for the show and the three friends on it, and Calvin is ordered to kill Elizabeth for putting Judith’s life in danger; if he doesn’t he will be defying Lady Fane’s orders, thereby breaking his oath to serve her. Judith cannot believe she is visiting an evil witch, accompanied by a scary vampire; she cannot condone killing any person and hopes Elizabeth will co-operate. Elizabeth tries to impose her power over Calvin, but cannot because of his dragon blood, and instead she receives an ultimatum; alter and impose a time-frame on the curse or he will kill her immediately. Judith and Calvin have been given until dawn. The way Calvin looks and speaks to Judith makes her feel powerful; she suddenly feels energised, as if she has finally crossed into the world where she belongs, the witch she knew she has been born to be. It would be one night to overcome whatever it is Elizabeth has planned for them; but what will that be and who is Elizabeth really targeting? For Judith and Calvin, this will be a night neither will forget, a night where they discover each other as equals and so much more. I enjoyed reading this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. It was a very short read, almost too short. The story moves along well until Judith and Calvin arrive at Lady Fane's residence. Once they are in his cabin things move too quickly. I would have loved for things to continue at a bit of a slower pace, or at least have the writing longer if not the time frame of the plot. Once they give in to their passions it is like wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am. There was no finesse, no details, it was just quick. After that his struggle to not harm her and how she protects herself was good, but then when he arrives to speak with Lady Fane after Judith has left it is back to being rushed. I needed more from the relationship, more interactions, more emotion, and more passion. I just needed more. This story could have been really good, the concept was great, the set up for the emotional tension of the situation was great, but the writing was rushed. I love Erin's writing and the Bloodkin series is great, I just wanted more out of this novella.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book.
The dragons that inhabit this world are endlessly fascinating, but the others are just as intriguing. For the record, while the dragons play a secondary role in this story, they still make themselves felt.
So. A vampire and a witch. Judith has the innate talent of her kind, but no training. As a vampire, Cal is considered at the bottom of the supernatural rung, his only saving grace that he's bound himself to a powerful dragon and retains his humanity. Sparks fly the moment these two meet. I liked that Judith saw the predator in him, but didn't let it dissuade her from getting to know him better. I liked that Cal tried to show her his best side while warning her what he was capable of.
Curses, blood magic, and the dead get jumbled together to make this an interesting night for the witch and the vampire. *thumbs up*
I read Until Dawn as part of the Taming the Vampire anthology. Judith is a reality TV star/witch who happens to be a real-life witch. It appears that someone is trying to do her harm though, which really doesn't go down well with Lady Fane, a Bloodkin Dragoness. She sends her 'spider' to find out who is trying to harm her favourite, and to also put a stop to it.
This is a short story, but is packed full of the detail and description that you would expect from an Erin Kellison story. Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors, and a smooth pace, this story is best read as part of the Dragons of Bloodfire series, but can standalone if you really want. Definitely recommended by me.

This novella is the first story in an anthology I received on Halloween day 2016. The premise was intriguing, a dragoness shifter and her vampire servant watching a reality show featuring 3 young witches. When it was obvious a magical curse happens against one of the three, she sends her vampire to make sure she lives and takes care of the one responsible. It was so good that I wanted more when I finished, so I now need to search out for more in this series! This is what I like most about anthologies! Where one author will draw me, and the price was awesome, finding gems like this make my day!
Celebrity witch Judith Kress is cursed on live television via a letter from her new cast member. When dragoness Lady Fane witness the curse, she sends her vampire servant Calvin Blake to save Judith. The vampire has watched the show with his mistress faithfully, so he already knows Judith's personality. Cal wants to save her as much as his mistress. Judith has grown up outside of the supernatural world and forced to find her own way to learn her magic. Can he protect Judith, or will the curse overcome her?

Until Dawn by Erin Kellison A Vampire helps investigate a magical curse and ends up interested in the witch. She's special and has relieved his boredom. Threats, tension and thirst make this a fast thrilling ride. I found it intriguing enough to shop for other books by this author. “He was a monster, but this night, unique in the many, many decades of his existence, he got to play the hero.” Excerpt From: Until Dawn by Erin Kellison.
I read Until Dawn as the opening book of the Taming the Vampire anthology. When Judith Kress, a star on "Witching Wild" is placed under a blood curse on live TV, vampire Calvin Blake is immediately sent by his patroness to save her. Judith is a novice witch and she's never met a "spider" before. But Judith finds Calvin is just what she needs to be able to face the challenge of a powerful witch who wants her spot on the show. This short story is a great introduction to the Bloodkin World.
This story though gory and grimy was very sweet and romantic. Full of Hungry zombies, Bloodthirsty vampires, and Crazy dragons. There is definitely an insight into the eccentric and egocentric mind of a bloodkin dragon but all in all there is a great HEA.

it was ok...young witch from TV show was cursed. Old vampire was sent by his owner dragonshifter because she loved the show. He spent the night rescuing her from curse. It ends with him being requested to play on the reality TV show as her love interest. ...It was cute
