Is the past ever really past? Can you truly ever trust anyone? These are the questions Sheriff Cammie Farnsworth must face when she is suddenly confronted with a past she thought she’d long ago left behind. As the first female elected sheriff of Clarke County, Maine, Cammie has finally found peace in her life. However, that peace is shattered when hockey legend Eli Kelley suddenly returns to Twin Ponds. He and Cammie were once involved, and when he left to pursue a sports career, he left with a secret that almost destroyed her. When he is found murdered and Cammie is forced to make an arrest, the finger of guilt from the townspeople turn to her. As pressure mounts, Cammie must prove not only that she is innocent, but that the one person she doesn’t want to believe is guilty may very well be a killer.
Sheriff Cammie Farnsworth loved her job that she’d been elected to do. Sheriff of Clarke County, Maine, she lived and worked in Twin Ponds, while finally feeling peace with herself and her choices. She and Jace had been living together for the past twelve months and she was the happiest she been in a long time. That was, until she and Jace were confronted with Cammie’s past in the shape of Eli Kelley, hockey legend and ex-boyfriend of Cammie’s. But it was his murder that changed everything in Twin Ponds; that and having to arrest a suspect who was dear to everyone in the town.
Would Cammie discover the evidence she needed to find the killer? Or was the person she’d arrested the murderer? The lack of evidence, the cold, bitter weather, the blizzards – everything seemed to be conspiring against Cammie…
Murder on Ice is the 1st in the Twin Ponds series by B.T. Lord and I enjoyed it very much. A great plot, with plenty of twists to deceive the reader, while a couple of times I thought I had the killer sorted but was wrong. Cammie is a strong, resilient character and I’m looking forward to the next in the series soon. Recommended.
This was an exciting mystery with many well placed twists and turns. I love the characters and will definitely be reading the next one in the Twin Ponds series, Murder by Misadventure.
This was an above average mystery story – Local boy who made the pros returns home only to get murdered – brought low by a backstory and subplots that were right out of Peyton Place and Sweet Valley High books.
The pacing was too slow for a mystery and the story drug on too long.
Lord also had a huge problem keeping the point of view in one character’s head, shifting between two or three in every chapter.
There were about the normal number of production errors in this download but one really jumped out at me: Santa Clause. Really? You mean to tell me that not one person who read this book before it was released spotted this goof?
I didn’t hate this book but it wasn’t good enough to make me want to read more of this author’s work.
A very good plot with several suspects to deliberate between. Several twists and turns to keep you guessing. Yet somehow with all of this, the book was a slight disappointment and I'm not sure why. I felt like things were dragged out much more than they needed to be; maybe because a lot of the action was taking place in Cammie's head. I'm not sure, but something just felt off. I also had a problem with the fact that once again this author couldn't seem to write without the use of strong profanity. I realize that I am one of the few people that this still bothers but I don't understand why it seems to have become necessary. In my opinion it doesn't provide realism; it just shows a lack of style. I would really like to read the next book in the series, but after the way the author ended this one I'm afraid to; there's no telling what will happen at the end of that one.
I rarely read pure mystery, preferring the paranormal mystery hands down. However, I'm so glad I took a chance on the Twin Ponds books. There are strong well developed characters, believable scenarios and the strongest mystery plot I've seen all year. And I did not figure out who the murderer was either; it hit me like a ton of bricks, a complete surprise, even though the clues are there. A hardy well done to the author. Now all I have to do is download the next book.
An interesting mystery. One that I didn't guess the "who done it".
A female sheriff in a small town, along with her boyfriend and her deputy, solve the recent murder at the Taylor House.
Many years ago, on a Halloween night, 5 teenagers entered the Taylor House and were never seen or heard from again. Now, another Halloween is drawing near and a horrible murder has been committed in the house. It has the entire town thinking the house' evil has come to head again, fifty years after the disappearance of the teens.
Honestly, this book is a huge cliché. The romance is cute, and the plot is overall all right. And it is funny when their interrupted so much. However, a lot of the actions seem forced, and interruptions seemed contrived. I felt of the book was not as interesting as it could’ve been, and it lost my interest soon after I started reading. I did finish it and found that I wasn’t against the story altogether
I only gave th only gave this book three stars and yet I would recommend it. I wasn't positive about whodunit until it was revealed, that's always a plus in a mystery novel, and I loved the shootout in the blizzard. I thought that was particularly well written. I also liked all of the characters and thought the author did a good job of portraying them. I think I will change my rating to four stars.
I did this as an audiobook as I'm experimenting with this format ... So , not sure if I would have enjoyed this more if I read it traditionally.
my biggest complaint is the audio voice was AI and the dialect was completely wrong for an East Coast story. And there were several mispronunciations of words ... really?
The writing, the characters, the writing, the storyline, the writing, all the elements needed to develop an exciting, fast paced murder mystery is B. T. Lord’s ‘Murder on Ice’. You will never guess ‘who done it’. Can’t wait to read book 2.
I did solve the bird feeder mystery as soon as the culprit appeared in the book. However I was only very close to solving who killed Eli. Off by one person.
Very picturesque book. Very interesting. I loved it.
Another fabulous book read...full of page turning adventure and mystery!!..you will not put this book down until you have finished reading every page❤️
