It’s the dead of winter in the Thousand Islands, and there’s nothing that reminds Suzy and Josie about that fact more than sub-zero temperatures, bone-chilling winds, and finding a dead body under the ice wearing only shorts and a tee shirt. In addition, a rare Dandie Dinmont has been found wandering around the area and Suzy and Josie, while trying to figure out what might have happened to the man under the ice, are also doing everything they can to reunite the dog with its owner. Unfortunately, both of these tasks prove to be particularly difficult, especially since Suzy has become enamored with a man bearing a bizarre tattoo and is having trouble keeping her focus on the task at hand. The latest offering in B.R. Snow’s The Thousand Islands Doggy Inn Mystery series is one of the most emotional, and often funniest, installment yet as Suzy, Josie, and the rest of the gang try to work their way through a complicated web of deceit and intrigue while coping with a brutal winter that is creating havoc and has everyone longing for an early spring.
This is the fourth book in the series. The characters are the same: Josie, Suzie, Freddie, Jackson, the two employees, Chef, Suzie’s Mom, and a new character: Wentworth, Mrs. C’s latest beau. Their friend Rochester has a bigger role in this story. Some of the character characteristics are the same: Josie loves to eat esp the Snickers, Suzy making fun of Josie, the Chef is always cooking yummy dishes, Freddie and Jackson trying woo Chef, Suzy’s Mom always trying to hook up Suzy with someone. Yet in this book, Chef finds a body and the mystery starts. This unknown body is found under the ice. There’s a dog stolen from their shelter. The gals find the stolen dog. You’re left wondering who stole the dog and who killer the man under the ice. Your let to believe it’s one person but the ending says no it’s not. Like the previous books, it’s easy reading. The story keeps your interest. The gals plus the Chef gets into a hostage kind of situation. They get out of it but the gun was pointing at them. Some readers may be bored with the repetition of the characters and the interaction between the two gals. But I enjoy it all.The book is entertaining, easy to read, yet there is mystery and a bit of intrigue. #5 is waiting in my Kindle.
Winter, good food and dogs, a great combination! Or maybe not so great for one man, Chef Claire has embraced Winter with a vengeance and whilst out on the ice one day she finds a frozen corpse, a man dressed in Summer wear and sporting a couple of strange tattoos, whilst trying to figure out who he was and how he ended up there, Suzy and Josie have another mystery on their hands. A rare Dandie Dinmont terrier was found wandering and brought to the Doggy Inn, only to have been dognapped from there! Now Suzy, Josie and Chef Claire need to find where the Dandie Dinmont (called by them Dapper) is now and get him back, then reunited with his true owner, oh and figure out why the young man Suzy's mother is setting her up with has a tattoo of a Dandie Dinmont on his hand.
This is a delightful easy enjoyable fast moving story. A Dandie Dinmont which is a rare breed is found by the side of the road and no one claims him. Then a dead man is found under the ice with a tattoo of the dog on his finger. How these are connected leads to an interesting story.
The author offers a good story with characters that immediately draw you in. There are enough twists and turns to keep you reading after lights out time.
First of Snow's books I've read. It's engaging with a slightly predictable denouement but the plot was convoluted enough that arriving at the resolution was interesting. Well done!
