PRACTICE AND PROGRESS

My English learning took off when I started to use "New Concept English" as textbooks. "Practice and Progress", the second in the four-volume series, has had the biggest impact on me. It taught me simple and elegant English. First of all, the reading passages are highly entertaining. All of them are so enjoyable to read, and thus I was lured to study them one after another. I read and re-read them so many times. I felt as though they were new passages to me each time I read them. I would smile to them as I read. More importantly, the phrases and expressions the book demonstrates are truly useful. They became part of my language skills almost immediately - I was able to use them correctly and properly on various occations. I was thrilled to find my English progressing so quickly, which provided me with greater enthusiasm to learn more. The third instalment, "Developing Skills", is a big step forward. I felt it difficult at the beginning, but soon I got a grip on it. After five passages, I started to enjoy learning from the book. Its passages are even more interesting, and the elegance of its language is so adorable! I learned the first volume, "First Things First", at the same time with "Practice and Progress". I used FTF to brush up my spoken English. And again, you guessed it - the lessons are very amusing and the language is immensely practical. I didn't study the fourth book, because I felt the texts were rather dull, and there weren't any cassettes to aid my study. By the way, the cassettes are a very important part of this series. Do have them with you! I recommend these textbooks to anyone who is serious about learning English, for they show the right way. And you'll love them

هذا الكتاب من أفضل الكتب التعليمية الموجهه لطلاب المرحلة المتوسطة. الكتاب مقسم لأربع وحدات دراسية تتدرج من البسيط إلى المواد التي تقدم مادة لغوية متقدمة تهيئ الطالب لمرحلة دراسية متقدمة في اللغة الإنجليزية.

يعتمد الكتاب على دراسة قطع انشائية دون التطرق لدراسة القواعد اللغوية بشكل مركز. هذه القطع الانشائية تتدرج الجمل فيها من التراكيب اللغوية البسيطة إلي الجمل معقدة التركيب. لا يحتوي الكتاب على تمرينات لغوية كتلك المعتادة في كتب اللغة و ذلك أمر أفضله أنا كمدرسة لغة لأني أرى أن تدريس القواعد اللغوية منفصلة عن القراءة أو المحادثة أمر يشكل عبئاً كبيراً على الطالب و لا يؤدي بالضرورة إلي تعلم اللغة بشكل أفضل عن الطرق الدراسية التي لا تعتمد على التركيز على قواعد اللغة.

واحد من أكثر ما أحبه في هذا الكتاب هو انه يبين للطالب في مواضع كثيرة أوجة اصعوبات المتوقعة في استعمال بعض المفردات اللغوية.

عموماً على الرغم من وجود كتب كثيرة ووسائل أكثر لتعلم اللغة الإنجليزية إلا إني أعتبر أن هذا الكتاب لم يفقد مكانه في مكتبتي
