In the middle of an alien invasion, a big, tough, tattooed former mercenary is finally going to chase down his woman.
Camryn McNab knows love is a lie. Okay, maybe not for everybody--her fellow soldiers on Squad Nine have managed to fall in love in the middle of a vicious alien attack. But it's not for her. She comes from two people incapable of love. For now, her life is about survival, fighting to protect others, and kicking some alien raptor butt. What she doesn't need is a certain wild, bearded, tattoo-covered soldier always underfoot, messing with her things, and driving her crazy. But no matter how hard she tries to outrun Hemi Rahia, she can't seem to shake him, and a terrified part of doesn't even want to...
A member of the Squad Three berserkers, Hemi knows his squad has a reputation for not following the rules and being a little wild. Former bikers, mercenaries, and...other less savory things, they fight hard and party harder. But Hemi has known for a while now that there is only one woman for him. One courageous, sexy, attitude-filled woman he wants to claim as his own. But he has to catch her first.
Tasked with a top-secret mission deep in alien creeper territory, Hemi and Cam will fight side-by-side to achieve their dangerous goal. Their chemistry is off the charts, but persistent Hemi wants more than Cam's body...he wants her heart and soul as well. As their battle with the aliens turns deadly, they will have to fight not only for their love, but for their very survival.
Note to This sci fi romance contains a lot of action (dangerous missions and deadly aliens), tough warriors (the kickass ladies of Squad Nine and the badass berserkers) and a steamy romance (lots of sexy times between a bearded wild man and his sexy soldier). So if you like it fast, and gritty, and sexy, this is for you!

I’m a USA Today bestselling romance author who’s passionate about fast-paced, emotion-filled romantic suspense and science-fiction romance. I love writing about people overcoming unbeatable odds and achieving seemingly impossible goals. I like to believe it’s possible for all of us to do the same.
I love hearing from readers and you can find me on Facebook, Instagram and my website: www.annahackett.com
Four and a half This series has always been action packed with delicious heroes and thoroughly evil aliens. Ms Hackett continues to imagine vile absolutely grotesque alien creatures and the newly discovered Creepers are possibly the most horrendous weapon that the Gizzada have released in their attempt to colonise Earth. Still the squads that protect the Enclave work hard to track down and destroy their enemy but what's the point in surviving if there's no one left to love you? Hemi is part of the Berserker squad , rough, dangerous and yet with a playful side that keeps getting him in trouble. He particularly likes riling up Cam as she's so defensive and apparently determined to remain footloose and fancy free! Well now there's a challenge and it's high time Hemi claimed the fiesty soldier that keeps running away. Is Cam ready for Hemi though? Is she about to take a chance or will the Gizzida snatch Hemi away before Cam decides it's time to run towards and not away from Hemi ? Like many readers I've been anxiously waiting for the Berserkers to get books and have to say that Hemi's book does not disappoint . He's everything I want to imagine and more besides. Possessive , a little naughty ( OK a lot ) and with a sweetness to him but it's always going to be his crazy antics that I will remember . Cam is very defensive and I struggled at times to truly understand why she wouldn't be brave enough to risk her heart but luckily the author decided to throw so much action into this book that Cam really had her eyes opened as to just what she was turning down. As usual I love the camaraderie amongst these guys and it's always a joy to see that men and women are equal in this war torn world . As for romance ? Well if you don't like hot scenes that sizzle then perhaps this series isn't for you. I however would willingly take Hemi up on any offer and luckily Cam finally does! I loved that the author caught up with previous characters and ended with a heartwarming surprise but for me it's Tane's book my heart desires and I just cannot wait to discover what happens next This voluntary review is of a copy I've read and my thoughts are honest and I believe a fair opinion
YES! I love that Hemi is this bad assed guy who has a sense of humour and a huge streak of loyalty. Oh yea, and we can't forget his healthy dose of never give up! I love him! And yup, he has a brother .....squeal! Our poor emotionally wounded Cam gets a really good run for her money and I loved it! Great addition to the series in which I am still at the point of please never end!
We finally got the first Berserker book, and it was perfect! Cam has been denying her attraction to Hemi for a while now but he is determined. They finally have their night together but it will take a lot more time to convince Cam to stay with him.
“Too many people just let those berserkers run wild. You stand up to Hemi, challenge him, and rein him in when he needs it.”
Cam is a beautiful and deadly soldier of Squad nine. Her parents taught her to not trust love or relationship so she has been pushing Hemi away from the beginning. He is determined though and just keeps pushing until she admits her feelings. I loved their relationship. Hemi may be a burly crazy man but he is so sweet with Cam. He holds her hand, gives her kisses, and is constantly showing how much he cares for her.
“I’m pretty tough to kill.”...“Like a cockroach?”
Hemi is one of the crazy Berserkers. He likes to fight and blow things up. We finally get to see the softer side of him though. I loved the scenes with him teaching the kids rugby and hanging out with his family and squad. He shows Cam what a true family should be like, not a dysfunctional one like hers. I am loving the Berserkers and I cannot wait for the rest of the men to fall.
The aliens are also ramping up their attack on the humans. The creepers are so, well creepy. They are a real threat to the survival of mankinds. I love all the aliens in this series. They are crazy and disturbing. Overall, I cannot get enough of this series! I need more of the Berserkers.
‘Hemi’ officially ushers in the Berserker squad and I’m glad we’ve come a way with this particular group of wild and rough-riding people. When they first appeared, they seemed to be a bunch of hairy things closer to grunting apes than humans who rode souped-up motorcycles that were used as mini-weapon-launching platforms to combat the aliens; which is sort of cool, but probably not quite the swashbuckling type of heroes I could envision. But Anna Hackett’s development of the squad is quite remarkable and I’ve come, over time, to see them fleshed out as individuals with even rougher and questionable pasts that are erased when the alien apocalypse happens.
Hemi Rahia’s and Camryn McNab’s story has been building for a while and make no mistake, that tension there beneath the pranks finally comes to fruition here. For every couple that Hackett focuses on, there is also a new, vile alien development that is specific to their getting together and it’s no different here. Hemi’s determination to win over Cam is as strong as her need to run away from him and this push-pull finally gives when forces bigger than them (read: disgusting alien parts that act as incubators) eventually show that couple disputes are more petty in the light of the fact that dying can happen any time. In the spirit of carpe diem, the action and the way the characters throw themselves into the fray, is fun with many shades of wild, rodeo-riding antics and good partying times.
As much as I enjoyed how fast-paced the action is, I thought that there’s also a bit more focus on Hemi/Cam’s personal drama here with several repetitive—and perhaps sweeping—lines about how men and women pretty much were into casual sex as a sign of the times, up until the point where they find the one they’re ‘meant’ for. While I did like Hemi/Cam and every little alien discovery the teams make, I think I would also have liked to see more of the big-picture, or at least some reference to a larger story arc that would show how war with the aliens is progressing and if there is an end (or some kind of HEA wrap-up for all involved), no matter how distant, in sight.
*ARC by the author (still so very grateful, as always)
Science Fiction Romance (SFR) has to walk a tightrope. It has to have convincing and consistent SF worldbuilding, AND it has to have a romance at its heart. For the most part I absolutely love this author’s SFR and her action/adventure romance, but this particular entry didn’t quite work for me.
While on that one hand Hemi feels like it is intended as the reverse of Theron, the two stories may just have come out too close together for me. Both romances feature members of the Squads that protect the Enclave from the nasty, reptilian, invading Gizzida. So these are both stories where the romance is between two members of the military defense force.
In Theron, it was Sienna who was ready to rock her teammate’s world, and Theron who was the initially reluctant partner. In Hemi, the roles are reversed, with Hemi already all in and Cam putting up walls. The circumstances that this little remnant of the human race is currently stuck in creates all kinds of baggage for absolutely everyone. But in addition to the usual standard heaping helping of survivor’s guilt, Cam’s miserable childhood and toxic parents left her convinced that while love may be possible for other people, she’s not capable of believing in it for herself.
Especially with someone like Hemi, who in spite of being very big and badass, came from a loving home filled with siblings and cousins and parents who loved each other deeply. He believes in forever, and while their current situation keeps forever firmly on hold, she doesn’t think she has it in her to care that deeply for anyone, because she’s seen just how wrong it can go.
It takes nearly losing Hemi twice for Cam to finally see that love is real, and that they need to grab every minute of it they can, because there might not be a tomorrow.
Escape Rating B-: The stories in Hemi and Theron are much too similar, and came much too close together for this reader. While Shaw also explores this same theme, two Squad members who fall for each other, it still stands out, both because it was the first of the theme and because Shaw and Frost are both so completely blindsided by what they feel for each other.
Also, although Hemi may be intended to be the engine driving this book (I can’t resist the pun) something about the way he pursued Cam didn’t quite work for me. It very much had that flavor of “man knows best”, and that particular flavor never tastes good to me.
Even though Hemi turns out to be right, they really do belong together, that particular trope has a nasty aftertaste of the man ignoring the woman’s thoughts, feelings and desires. It so often, as it does in this case, becomes a story of “even though she said no she really means yes” and using seduction to change the woman’s mind. Everyone is wrong sometimes, but not having a woman’s stated wishes respected, even if the other character thinks they are off-base, is not something I enjoy reading.
It also feels as if not enough progress is made towards kicking the Gizzida off Earth. I’m still holding out for an Independence Day ending (the original, not the bleeping sequel) where we all stand up and cheer while the aliens get their asses kicked back into space. While the new alien creepers we see in Hemi are particularly creepy (the scene where Hemi hacks his way out from the inside is gruesome and awesome at the same time), and the swath of destruction that the Squads wreck in their base is spectacularly explosive, it still feels like a guerrilla action and not major movement forward.
For this reader, it is just plain time for the Gizzida to GO!
Good fun as ever - Hemi and Cam were a refreshing change to the usual couple setups. I could quite happily just read about Hemi wandering around shooting aliens to be honest, he was charming and extremely funny. Looking forward to more berserkers!
Hemi is one of the Berserkers but I really liked his steadfastness with regards to Cam. This instalment is supercharged with action and Hemi is like a cat with nine lives!!
I adore this series. And I have absolutely loved seeing Hemi trying to get under Cam’s skin in the previous books. Which was why I so looked forward to see how Hackett was gonna play it. And she played it well. Hemi was so fucking hot. And demanding. And relaxed. And funny. And strong. And family orientated. So what I am trying to say is that I want one😂 Pretty please. 😍
Great plot. I really admire how Hackett 13 books in can still keep it new & fresh and the story just evolves deliciously.
Read: 21/01/2022 1st rating: 4.5 stars Genre/tropes:Sci-fi/romance/action/smut Cover: 4 stars (he looks like a Hemi.) love that we don’t see faces. It’s easier to imagine your own Hemi. POV’s: Dual -3rd person (Cam & Hemi) Will I recommend: Yes
Received an ARC for a honest review As we come closer to just what the Gizzida have in store for Earth, we get the first of the Berserkers stories. Hemi and Cam are like fire and gasoline and they've been dancing around each other from the start. Both are strong characters and while Hemi is well grounded, Cam has her demons and has a hard time overcoming them. Plenty of action to move the story with enough humor to make it a fun read.
HEMI, bk 13 is a fast moving, hope-filled dystopian novel with a lot of action, suspense, plenty of Steamy scenes of intimacy and a HFN (dystopian)/HEA. I purchased and listened to the audio version well read by Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook. HEMI is a “Feisty Colleagues to More” trope novel.
MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 to 4 Stars. I am enjoying this series with the Crazy action scenes and creative monsters. 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I LIKED THIS A LOT; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).
HEMI, #13 ~ While on a reconnaissance mission the Beserkers’ helo is shot down and it crashes to the ground. Their squad is immediately attacked by creepers (giant human-eating alien bugs). Squad 9, with FMC Camryn leading the way, rushes out to assist but MMC Hemi and a few of his squad are sucked below into the alien breeder swamp before a rescue is complete.
HEMI contains creative settings, fast action with squads of heroic alien-fighters and an abundance of steam between the MCs. I enjoyed the suspense and action scenes in HEMI which starts off pretty fast. The characters (Camryn & Hemi) know each other as colleagues and when put into an extreme Proximity-Danger situation, their total trust in each other is tested. Whether or not or not anyone survives from one day to the next is unknown. But still they fight, they determine to survive and they concentrate on the success of their mission. Love and life will be their reward.
Comments ~ 1) The latter books in the Hell Squad series almost remind me of serials in a mini-series or individual episodes in a television series - which doesn’t have to be a bad thing - just advising readers the whole story arc is slow (and building in tension) through to the end of the series. (This includes HEMI and the other books in the latter half of the series). 2) Anna Hackett books > I like that the bad guys get whooped in each book and hopefully destroyed for good in the end. The Good Guys/Women have solidified friendships and find love and acceptance. 3) HEMI is a dystopian novel. Readers who are willing to let go of reality, logical thinking, scientific facts and just settle in for the ride will find the most enjoyment in this series. 4) The Hell Squad books are very fast reading (HEMI was a 3.5hr audio at my listening speed), great for a few hours of escape or to decompress after work. I am finding the story arc a captivating journey. 5) Although HEMI might be read as a standalone title, I really don’t recommend it at this point. HEMI is the 13th book in a 20 bk series with an ongoing story arc. A lot of continuity and character development will be missed starting with HEMI. I prefer reading Anna Hackett’s series starting with book one and continuing through the series in order. 6) I thought the reading by Kafer and Cook was very well done. They’ve been challenged with various accents (Russian and English) as well as the intimacy scenes throughout this series, which must have been fun for them. ;) (I purchased nearly the entire audio series when they went on Sale). 7) Overall, I am enjoying this series and recommend it to readers who enjoy: *Action/Adventure novels (and are okay with a number of detailed steamy intimacy scenes). *Dystopian Romance novels (and above). *Escape fiction, such as Fantasy and Space Opera (and above). *Quick reading romance novels to insert between other genres and tropes (and are okay with light dystopian settings and steamy scenes). *Imperfect alpha-type male characters who commit 100%+ to the woman they love and appreciate complicated, authentic, resilient women
READER CAUTION ~ PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used. SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. An intimacy scene begins about 1/2 way in the book. The characters knew each other previously. VIOLENCE - Yes. Think a dystopian world with marauding alien.
After thirteen books, fans of this series should know what they’re getting by now – a sexy, alpha male, a strong, smart woman and lots of evil alien shenanigans to balance out the sexy times. Plus, this time around, we get a closer look at those Berserkers, at last! This has been a long time coming, not just getting to know the squad better, but also because Hemi has been chasing Cam for a while.
I loved Hemi. He’s sexy and playful, pushy and dominant, but never over the top. He might like to be in charge, but he’s not overwhelming, despite his larger than life personality and form. He’s big and strong, but also flirty and fun. I liked him a lot.
I also liked the plot, with the creepers and the potential horror of what they are and do. The action sequences are as big and bombastic as ever, with a few moments verging on unlikely, but which are nevertheless enjoyable.
What a shame about Cam. Up until now she’s been a strong, no nonsense woman who doesn’t have much time for Hemi’s attention-seeking flirtations. I had high hopes for the pair of them, but it turns out that Cam’s resistance is pathetic. Yes, Hemi is pushy, but she’s a complete pushover. She makes up her mind about something, states her position firmly, but one teasing push from Hemi and she caves. Every. Single. Time. It was infuriating!
I love Hemi, and there were plenty of moments when I didn’t blame Cam for giving in, but for someone who’s fought so hard for so long, I expected her to win at least one of their bouts, whether the playful ones or the more serious moments. Nope. She’s useless and that made her seem weak. It also made me doubt their ability to be partners in anything. One of the other characters (Sienna) states at one point that Cam is good for Hemi because she stands up to him and never lets him get away with anything, but all evidence suggests the contrary. He’d end up walking all over her without meaning to, because her resistance really is futile.
Which sadly left me utterly unconvinced about the romance. Hemi’s great, I’m loving the rest of the Berserkers and the plot is as action-packed as always, I just wish Cam had lived up to her earlier promise and not proved to be such a pushover.
This story is now finally starting with a Berserker and his long-term crush.
Hemi and Cam are mightily attracted to each other, but while it is in this world now quite normal to have an affair, Cam shies away. What are Hemi’s motives, can she trust him? Also she is not that kind of girl that he seems to want.
Grown up in complete opposites without knowing it, the tough Cam, accustomed to being and solving everything alone is chased by stubborn, fearless & protective Hemi. As one of the Berserkers he is known for being all of the above and he wants Cam.
I have to say that he is quite clever in his steps on reaching his goal. And the story is very different from the last one. Anna is very talented in her writing. It never gets boring. You might have a preference for a couple or some traits on the characters, but they are all strong, independent, smart and capable. You can feel the relationship growing, the sizzle of a good chase and of course the Gizzida fight continues as well.
Now you are on edge to learn what the creepers are, if and what the plan of the Gizzida is for them, what is the ultimate weapon and can humanity prevail?
Every book can be read as a standalone. Anna summarizes the necessary background without going into much detail and giving exactly the right amount of information in order to follow.
Personally, I would not recommend to start with this book, because I would miss too much of the background story, the long way of everyone and also the fine interaction between all characters, recurrency of couples and interaction in general. But as I said, it is possible.
What really frustrated me are the hints of the possible new couples. I mean come on, I want to know their story now and also if I interpreted it correctly. I am looking forward to a story of a certain alien woman!
Hopefully we will learn more in the next book about the creepers victims, are they lost or is there a way out?
What else is there to say? I can recommend it, when you like a good sci-fi-romance with action and classy characters.
Cam has no idea what the New Year will bring, but Hemi does, at least as far as Cam is concerned. While Hemi has a strong sense of right and wrong, he knows the right woman will be worth the trouble and for him Cam is that person. All he has to do is convince her of that, if only he can get her to stop running. Hemi prefers attitude and fire and he and Cam have been circling each other for months. The New Year’s Eve party is in full swing and the room is filled with hope; the one thing that no one can afford to lose in the middle of this alien invasion. Cam needs to find a midnight kiss. Hemi is too big, too bossy, and too alpha male; not to mention too annoying. Cam convinces herself she wants nothing to do with the man, but is it time to stop running? Always challenging Hemi, Cam decides it is now time to get him out of her system and send him on his way. But the love Cam has been running from all her life has now found her; Hemi is stubborn, wild, and a little crazy, but he never gives up on Cam, even with everything she is hiding. Can Hemi finally convince Cam that he is someone she can trust irrevocably? Another excellent, well-written, intriguing story which was a pleasure to read. Apart from the incredible romance between Cam and Hemi the story encompasses the dangerous and life-threatening missions they are involved in. This is an incredible and well-rounded storyline and a book I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Hemi and his fellow former mercenaries, bikers and ex-cons make up the infamous Berserkers. They are hard core, Alpha to the nth degree and maybe not bring-home-to-mum kinda men but they get the job done and you can rely on them to blow the Gizzida back to wherever they came from!
Cam is a top-notch soldier, male or female. She is driven to the end of her well worn tether by a certain Kiwi Bad boy. He bedazzled her helmet for cripes sake! The man may ooze sex appeal but Cam wants to get rid of the Gizzida, not scratch an itch with the resident no.1 bad-boy!
Creepers are closing in on my top 5 of creepiness that the Gizzisa have wrought on Hell Squad and the rest of the survivors. But will even Hemi be able to survive their slobbering maws? Will he be forever changed by their pods?
Hemi is everything you want in a bad boy. Charming when he wants to be, creative, loving and downright HAWT! You learn more about his family and you can't help but love him when he talks about his madcap family. Cam is slow to the "Hemi likes you party", even though the rest of the team are like "FINALLY!!"
I cannot wait to see what happens with the rest of the Berserkers. I want to know the next lucky couple are going to be as full on, passionate and hard-headed stubborn as there two were. Stubborn just means they'll be page melting hot when they finally get together!
Snarky, funny, witty banter wrapped into a tightly controlled but expanding world of alien invasion. Perfect!
This is the latest in Anna Hackett's fantastic "Hell Squad" series. Needless to say, Hemi is the lead in this book and I am glad he got his story. The Berserkers (you have to read prior books to understand what I mean) are fascinating. Cam is his love interest.
As an American, I noticed the casual-it-doesn't-matter-about-ethnicity stance of the story and I loved it. Hackett does a stellar job of integrating love between all ethnicities without making a big deal about it...it's just the way this world is.
The romance is no surprise: we've seen the build-up in prior books and it played out about as I expected.
I am disappointed that there is still no progression in the secondary plot of winning back Earth from the Grizzida. Each book seems to bring out a new element to fight, but never make an advance to winning the war. After the last book, I thought we might see more interaction between other camps, or more mention of the thing that is supposed to annihilate all people.
While I love this series and eagerly wait for the next book and learning about more characters, the sci-fi fan in me wants to see the Earth people kick some Grizzida butt and send them running. I would like to see some focus on rebuilding Earth and cleaning out the mess that was left. I want to see Selena's people and Earth people unite or at least meet up (I can't wait for her story btw).
There's a lot to love about this series. It's one of few that I can't wait to read the moment I get the book!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This spine-chilling action sensuous tale has you hooked from the start with gripping suspense, deadly dangers, intriguing banter, horrific alien monsters, a bit of jealous drama, a few surprises and a happy ever after that is built on trust and much devotion.
Hemi has been hot for Cam since he laid eyes on her but she avoided his advances like the plague. Hemi loves to drive her crazy with flirtatious innuendos making her want to play. She does not mind a bit of fun with him but a committed relationship for her is taboo due to her past. He wants an everlasting relationship and making her see they belong together is a dedicated challenge. Hemi's risk-taking behavior puts his life in danger and Cam must focus on the future leaving the heart-rending past behind her.
I find the Hell Squad series fascinating as all the characters have impressive engaging personalities and their protective instincts for each other shows they are more a family than just comrades. The powerful vivid scene descriptions wow you and the dangers they face together keep you on the edge of your seat satisfying your taste for sci-fi and sultry romance until the conclusion. The romance between Cam and Hemi has a bit of a rocky start, but in the end, true love does win and their fiery passion lights up the pages. If you treasure Sci-fi as much as I do this is a fantastic book for your library. I enjoyed this story so much {I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book and the series.
Hello and welcome to HEMI - book 13 in the Hell Squad series. Where fearless men and women fight to save Earth from dinosaur aliens hell bent on human annihilation. Yes it is as awesome as it sounds!
Meet the H & H Hero: HEMI RAHIA – Member of Squad 3 (AKA ‘The Crazy Berserkers’) is a large, fun loving ex mercenary and brother to Manu and Tane. Heroine: CAMRYN McNAB – Squad 6 soldier and the last single lady on her squad. Cam is all for a fun time and nothing more.
If you’ve read the previous books, which I thoroughly recommend, then you’d know Cam has been putting up with Hemi ‘tugging on her pigtails’ in true primary school boy likes girl fashion for a while now. Which is actually a pretty apt demonstration of Hemi’s shit stirring and easy going personality and I loved how it totally rubs Cam up the wrong way….and then in all the right ways once they hit the sheets!
The creepy Creepers are back and as usual for Hell Squad books there are plenty of explosions and aliens. Though damn if I don’t want something nefarious to happen at the Enclave - just seems like all that nail bitting tension Ms Hackett creates while her characters are fighting aliens and blowing stuff up evaporates as soon as we get back to the Enclave... but all in all still a solid addition to the series.
If you are looking for a perfect weekend escape then the Hell Squad books are for you.
From the very first mention of the squad of Berserkers I was excited to read about them. There is nothing I love more than a bearded, tatted up badass and Hemi absolutely delivered. From previous books we knew Hemi had been chasing Cam but she'd been avoiding him just as hard until a New Year's Kiss changed everything. I adored Hemi, he'd been with OW before in the camp but from the time they entered the Enclave he's been alllllll about Cam and he never wavered even on the numerous occasions that she pushed him away. Cam is a sexy badass in her own right and because she saw her own parents in a toxic relationship she was determined not to end up like her mom which caused quite a bit of pushing away on her part which I wasn't a fan of at all but eventually she got it together. It took one determined Berserker to show her what love is really about #swoon.....there is a bit of OW drama brought forth by a lying wretch but it doesn't last long thankfully. New alien critters are discovered, we finally get to really " meet" the other Berserkers and Holmes gets some sweet news. This is definitely my favorite in the series to date, as I believe in going out on a high note I'm taking a pause in the series for now but I'll definitely be back especially for more Berserker goodness!
HEMI! Man, I like this guy. The gleefully chaotic beserker has insane focus when it comes to the woman he's determined to woo. He's just...he's just Hemi, okay? He throws himself into everything he does whole-heartedly and gives it his all. It doesn't matter if it's regarding eliminating an alien threat or trying to convince Cam how perfect they'd be together. The guy goes all in and doesn't back down.
Cam, on the other hand, is a little more reserved. She's more guarded with her heart and more careful when it comes to putting herself in danger. Which isn't a bad thing, necessarily, because saying hale and hearty is kinda important. But the heart thing sucks for poor Hemi. He really has to fight to show her that he's in it for the long haul and isn't looking for a simple fling.
Beyond the romantic entanglements, things are heating up with the Gizzida. The new weapon (or at least I assume what was revealed was the weapon they'd been hunting for. Maybe I'm wrong!) is nasty and could spell the end of humanity if it isn't stopped. Naturally, the survivors put their all into doing what they do best and kicking alien butt while taking names.
I knew I'd love the beserkers when I got to their books and I'm thrilled so far. Ash is up next. I'm ready for him!
Berserker Hemi is fighting for his mate Squad 3, the infamous Berserkers, are hellraisers, laughing and revving engines and blowing up stuff. These wild men totally enjoy fighting the alien Gizzida. Former mercenary Hemi Rahia is a giant of a man covered in tattoos who takes this new life with a grain of salt. He’s loud, funny, and a big, cuddly bear. He has his brother Tane with him on the squad and his injured brother Manu also at the Enclave, but the rest of their big, wonderful family probably didn’t make it. Hemi has his eyes on a badass member of Squad 9, Camryn (Cam) McNab. She gets his blood pumping…hard, but Cam ain’t interested! She avoids him, but NO MORE! Hemi is taking what he wants on New Year's Eve. Cam is not interested in making a romantic connection. Her parents' toxic relationship left her skittish, but Hemi would not give up on her. Hemi wears his heart on his sleeve, whereas Cam is dark and quiet. They work well together because Hemi respects Cam’s abilities. Cam and Hemi are a great couple, and once committed, they are a perfect love match. “Hemi” is a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The Gizzida want death to humanity, but they met their match, and they are going down! I love Hell Squad and am rereading the entire series. Linda
This book needs some action, and I mean more than just Hemi🐺🍌🌋✋ and Cam💔👙 between the sheets! Hemi's🐺🍌🌋✋ a huge Maori warrior🔪🔨🔫, with old tribal tattoos from another time and place covering much of his body. Now that the earth is under the scourge of the alien invaders, Australian society is pretty much dead. All that are left are survivors, mostly soldiers and some isolated people, almost all of them young adults. On that note, the series is rife with hook -ups🍌. Big 🔥hot strong guys💪 with too much testosterone🍌🌋 court the few females available. I have previously read all of this series, even though I may not have written reviews on some of them. Hemi🐺🍌🌋✋ is a beserker🔪🔫, He's a wild and crazy guy and he and his team ride motorcycles and motorcycle like machines, while the other teams drop out of the sky when they attack. Cam is 🔥Hot for Hemi🐺🍌🌋✋, but she thinks she can just have a one 🌙night stand with him, and then it's over. Hemi has his mind made up that their relationship will be permanent. He has waited a long time for her.
I was disappointed in the story because it dragged badly in places and seemed self indulgent. The book is well written and edited, it's just boooooring...... YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎
Squad three berserker, Hemi Rahia’s aim was fixed on the woman he promised himself, tossing lures from his ‘I’ll make you want me’ repertoire but teammate Camryn McNab proved stubbornly resistant. Who knew how much the ambiance of the enclave’s New Year’s celebration would underscore his charms. Cam was determined, intimacy never, sex absolutely! Who knew what was in the air but whatever it was Hemi’s kiss was electric! In their moment of truth, her armor cracked a bit.
Cam was gone when Hemi awoke and pretended nothing happened when their eyes met before a meeting. Cam’s assigned to a dangerous capture mission, Hemi volunteers; later telling Cam where she goes, he’ll be there, too. On mission, Hemi lives up to his reputation as a daredevil trying to capture his prey and Cam, realizing their bit of shared intimacy is making her care is angry at them both.
To my taste, the sci-fi action piece lacked here in favor of romance, even with new killer aliens and creepier unseens lurking in the shadows. This outing was a showcase for all facets of Hemi and though this reader found Cam tiring (but her hero moment was bad-a**), she was a good attraction for him Rating: 3.5stars
Camryn McNab childhood memories were not good. Her parents fighting and no other family to support her had done a number on her. Not easy to trust and no long-term relationship. With the Gizzida threat over their heads all the time, she was yearning for some of the affect her mates had found but, doubts were clouding her mind. Hemi Rahia thought he had waited enough. He would go after the woman that had been running from him all the time. Loved all the drama between these two characters. The berserker was wild, sexy and a very exciting character that had me intrigued from the beginning. In this story, the Gizzida continues with the scary monsters threatening everything at their path and Enclave teams were sent to discover their whereabouts. Lot of action, suspense, exciting scenes and steamy hot sex. Love that each time we get to know more of the characters, their motivations, their fears and how they deal with them. The detailed fighting scenes were very intense and I was visualizing the action and enjoying the good written narrations. Like very much this action- packed story
Hemi, a Squad Three berserker, is never one to shy away from a challenge, and Cam, from Squad Nine, is definitely a challenge. Since he first saw Cam, he decided she was the one for him. She answers his smiles with insults, his complements by running away. He's resorted to teasing and pranks to get a rise out of her. But he's done with that now. With the world under attack by alien invaders, life is hard enough just surviving. Games are over. It's time to go after what he wants... and and he wants Cam.
I really enjoyed this story. I understood Cam's reservations about relationships, but Hemi was such a great guy, I just wanted to climb into my iPad and just smack her in the head and yell, "Knock it off already!"
The world building is awesome, and the storyline... well, I've said it before-- someone needs to pitch this to SyFi Channel. It needs to be a series, and they have more leeway with all the sexy bits. LOL
Well done. Very well done indeed. Can't wait for the next one.
at this point, just accept that I will love all the remaining books 🤷♀️
I absolutely LOVE Hemi and Cam! I think they're actually my top fav couple of the series now! Hemi is one of the Beserkers, Squad three. The crazy squad. They go into battles with their big ass tattooed arms showing, and with shit eating grins and laughing maniacally the whole time. A rag tag group or ex cops, excons, mercenaries, and other questionable past members. Hemi is the brother of Squad threes leader, and he's had his eyes glued to Cam since they were back at Blue Mountain. He is a crazy happy man who loves to fight and loves to push Cams buttons. And he claimed Cam as his, even if Cam punches him and walks away every time he tries to flirt. Cam is a bad ass, tall, beautiful, and deadly with a weapon. She is a part of Squad nine and loves to fight. And she doesn't mind the attention of a certain berserker, especially when he says flirty things and she gets to punch him. She likes the attention but won't ever admit it. Her past isn't sunshine and roses, and as a result, she feels she's not built for long term or love. But Hemi is a well of patience and a very determined man. Their back and forth is so fun! I want a Hemi 😭 The progression of the story is great, too!
Spoilers!
I love when Hemi gets eaten by a Creeper, and Cam rescues him. Well, he helps too by cutting his way out of the stomach. but once he's out, and Cam sees he's okay, she gut punches him for being crazy and getting eaten 🤣
This is a fantastic addition to the Hell Squad post alien invasion series. Hemi Rahia has been circling Camryn McNabb for some time. He's a berserker from Squad Three. She's a member of Squad Nine, which is made up of women. She's determined to keep things simple. He wants more. Then they get a lead on an underground Gizida transformation chamber and it begins to look like what little time they had could well be over. I love the characters and the dynamics between them in this author's books. She quickly moves into the action and suspense portion while steadily moving the plot forward. The women are strong, capable and smart. The men are warriors with hearts of gold. I'm always eager for the next release, regardless of the series. They are all good, and worth waiting for. And their being available in the KU library is another plus for avid readers.
Camryn and Hemi's road to happily ever after is paved with a few emotional problems from Camryn who does not feel she needs Hemi in her life as a full time boyfriend. She definitely does not want him in her bed for cuddles and staying the night but Hemi has others ideas and is determined to show Camyrn that he is a keeper and he is there to stay. The war against the alien invaders has heated up and now everyone will be needed to stop them or they will not be able to save the lives of the ones they love the most. The aliens are always making some horrible new experiment to destroy the last of humanity, and this time they may have just succeeded. The Enclave and all the fighting squads will have their work cut out for them if they are to survive. Thank you to Anna Hackett for the amazing review book. Loved it. Highly recommend this series.
Hemi is the 13th Hell Squad story. Hemi is one of the Berserkers, biker gang and misfits that have joined to protect the last of the human survivors in the Sidney area of Australia after the alien invasion that has devastated the human population world wide. He and his brothers-in-arms have learned their skills the hard way. Hemi has his eye on Camryn McNab, a mechanic who keeps the vesicles of the Enclave running even if she has to make the parts for them. She doesn't believe in love, her family is gone; even before the invasion her sister took her baby and disappeared. Camryn took the first vacation in her life just before the aliens invaded. She left Florida and flew to Oz just to have some time when she was responsible for no one but herself. She doesn't know if her dad or her sister survived. Hemi wants Camryn to give him a chance and hopefully give them a chance at love.
