I Am Bride: How to Take the WE Out of Wedding

Rate this book
“One of the best books for brides . . . Her satirical, tongue-in-cheek take on making your wedding all about yourself will offer some much-needed laughs.” —Real SimpleIn this bridal gag gift, Upright Citizens Brigade comedian Laura Willcox writes in the voice of an overbearing, outrageous wedding planner, covering all aspects of a wedding—from the moment of engagement (hopefully with the ring you’ve been not so subtly emailing him about for months), all the way through the final minutes of the big day. Accompanied by Jason O’Malley’s humorous illustrations, Willcox offers tongue-in-cheek advice for every wedding-planning moment, whether it’s dreaming up the perfect wedding-weekend hashtag, planning a gift registry to make everyone jealous of your fabulous lifestyle, or figuring out how to distance yourself from the poor, unfortunate souls who didn’t make the cut for your guest list. Laura Willcox’s refreshing take on all things bride will turn tradition on its head, and have you rolling your eyes and reading passages out loud to your engaged (and married) friends. This funny book is a perfect gift for the friend who can’t stop pinning to her dream wedding board, bridezilla-to-be, or any bride who would benefit from a much-needed break from the stress and madness of wedding planning.“Perfectly mocks the absurd wedding-planning industry. Whether you’re having a big wedding to prove something to your ex, or a small wedding to make your loved ones feel excluded, this book will make you laugh through the overwhelming planning process.” —Lauren Lapkus, actor and comedian

Snarky, a satirical book that should not be used for wedding advice, but it's very funny.

So funny, so incredibly helpful in an odd way, this book must be read by everyone who is about to get married. Especially women who love to be the centre of attention!

Very few lines are written in a serious tone. The rest of the book is a hilarious step-by-step guide on how to create the perfect wedding ceremony and wedding party, how to make everything about YOU, only YOU, how to be sure that not even weather, natural disasters, irritating in-laws, jealous frenemies, death or alien invasion will interrupt the miracle that is your perfect wedding.

Read and be educated, brides! This day is about YOU and about the perfect photos you must take that declare forever your love and happiness, photos that make your friends impressed and your enemies jealous. This day is only slightly about the groom who happens to stand next to you during that day and pays for the mountains of flowers your high-pofile flourist and not you chose (among other *absolutely important for your happiness and classy wedding* things he must pay for). If the flowers cover him on the photos, then even better: his money were spent for a good cause and the focus of the photos is again on YOU.

Absolutely read this awesome book to be better prepared for your great, perfect, magnificent, only-for-YOU wedding day!

Very cleverly written. I've been married 28 years and really enjoyed the sarcastic view into what today's wedding industry is like. Ms. Willcox even thoughtfully includes a section for the groom at the end of each chapter so that he won't feel left out. I rather wish I had a friend of similar humour getting married to gift this to - very fun read.

Disclaimer: I received this after entering a goodreads giveaway... but if you read my other reviews, you'll see that I don't pull any punches.

This book is a satire on wedding planning, and I definitely laughed out loud a few times while reading. It was a quick read; it probably only took me about an hour to read. Entertainingly funny if you’ve had similar wedding planning experiences and are in the mood for it!

Heard Laura on a podcast once, she’s really funny. Sometimes hard to see it as satire cause lord knows we all met at least one bride like this. Nice reality check after being on Pinterest for 6 hours and sobbing

So funny! This really eased the stress of wedding planning. I was laughing out loud and reading some parts to my fiancé. It made me realize I was being a crazy girl about planning. It helped me calm down and have a laugh about it. Highly recommend for the brides!

As I prepare for my wedding, this book provided huge comedic relief in light of some of the challenges I am facing. Now if only someone would write a version for same-sex marriages. :-)

Last year I got engaged. Yay. Now I have to plan a wedding and I am petrified. I don’t know how to plan a wedding so I read I AM BRIDE for help.

Basically, I AM BRIDE is a gorgeous looking book. It is Tiffany Blue with pretty gold writing and I’ll be honest it was just too damn pretty; I didn’t read the blurb so when I started reading the book I was little perturbed. It was almost a guide on how to be a bridezilla and that is not what I want to be. However, I soon realised that I AM BRIDE is very tongue-in-cheek. It even has a guide for the groom!

I AM BRIDE is seriously funny and the illustrations are fantastic. It is the perfect engagement present for your friends an even though it is very jokey it does give you a little bit of advice. I now feel that I have a little bit more comfortable about how to proceed with planning…I think.

I AM BRIDE – How to Take the WE out of Wedding (and Other Useful Advice) by Laura Wilcox is available now.
