This was a lot of fun to read. I really enjoyed seeing behind the scenes shots from the making of this film. The shots of the the special effects team making the creatures was particularly interesting to see. The writing is a bit light. The impression that I got is that this book is based on interviews that took place long after the making of this film, so a lot of details have been lost over time. The result is that you get a lot of actors and production staff recalling fond memories of each other rather than technical details about making the film. Despite this weakness, this book was a lot of fun to read, and it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the film.
This is one of the better 'making of' movie books out there. It has recollections from all the actors and director John Carpenter. Its also generously sprinkled with rare behind the scenes images from the making of the movie. If you are a fan of this now-cult classic movie then this a book you should try to find. The real pity is how hard it is actually to find a reasonably priced copy these days.
While I only snagged the eBook through Hoopla, I’m so glad I found it! This movie is still one of my all time favourites and has stood the test of time for me. It was great getting a behind the scenes look at all the actors, their characters, the sets and how the movie was made over 30 years ago
This book presents a very detailed look at the making of a cult classic. While not a huge box office hit at the time, this film's reputation has grown through the years. I believe its long-term popularity comes from the love and care its creators devoted to it. This book documents that high level of craft and dedication, with interviews with a large number of cast and crew, and through a large number of photos from the production. Honestly, I had thought that some of the cast might have looked at this movie as something of an embarrassment from their past that they have moved beyond, but to a man and woman, every person talked about what a great experience it was, and how fondly they look back upon it. Highly recommended for fans of the film, or fans of filmmaking in general.
Ideal.
This is a pretty good read with loads of production detail, including stuff I haven't read elsewhere, but it is also missing details included in set visits chronicled in magazines such as STARLOG, which prevents it from being the definitive look at this great movie.
