Rate this book
A year ago, baseball player Blair Saxon was enjoying his Major League Debut. Today, he’s wasting away on a west coast beach, the victim of a 95-mile per hour fastball to the head. He’s direct, abrasive, and speaks without filters, so it’s understandable that the police don’t want his help.

When the killer gets too close, Saxon turns to his one remaining friend, Megan, the only one who will tolerate his strange ideas and strange desires. Together as amateur detectives, they do what the police detectives can't, they find suspects. But are they resourceful enough to keep themselves alive?

This book is GREAT. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating was because it could use some fine-tuning, i.e. editing, proofreading, author BIO, etc. to be a Best-Seller in the world of John Grisham. And this story is as good as [or better than], some of Grisham's more recent works.

The plot has topical issues such as diet programs, cancer, assisted suicide, health insurance, fraud, and of course, murders, lawsuits, and believable characters. What is missing? Expect lots of suspense mixed with occasional humor.

Starting with a pro baseball player, Blair Saxon, whose career tanks because of a fast ball to the head, the book grabbed me right off, being the baseball lover that I am. This character is as smart as they get even with his brain knocked into the outfield. I think I am smart, but I had to pay attention to keep up with him. Nevertheless, an easy and interesting read.

So who is Al Moe, and when is his next book being published?

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

Suspense

A two fold story. One part mystery and suspense, one part sweet romance. Twists and turns so hold on to your seat. Enjoyable and entertaining.

This was much more than a murder mystery since some of the details are provided early-on, but the author takes the time to give the characters their own quirks and issues also. Besides the mystery, there is also some social commentary about several issues including our nation's preoccupation with trying to get the perfect body at any cost.

There's a great story here and plenty of it with 380 pages. The main character, Blair Saxon isn't perfect, but he's interesting, methodical and daring. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

This book covers some serious issues like cancer, dieting fads and the sinister side of the health supplement industry. It follows the story of Blair Saxon as he investigates the connection between clients who have used a diet pill and end up getting cancer, his mum included. I don't want to spoil the read but there are some great twists and turns and POV of a 'hitwoman' taking out the cancer patients suing the diet pill company. There's a cat and mouse chase, a smart Alex straight talker in the form of Blair Saxon and a pretty sweet romance to boot. An enjoyable read, highly recommended.
