New thriller from one of Britain's most skilled and wide-ranging novelists, featuring Nicholas Newman, the hero of The Amethysts, the pscyhological thriller acclaimed by the Sunday Telegraph as 'harrowing, absorbing ...unforgettable' and Pearl.
Frank Delaney was an author, a broadcaster on both television and radio, journalist, screenwriter, playwright, lecturer, and a judge of many literary prizes. Delaney interviewed more than 3,500 of the world's most important writers. NPR called him 'The Most Eloquent Man in the World'. Delaney was born and raised in County Tipperary, Ireland, spent more than twenty-five years in England before moving to the United States in 2002. He lived in Litchfield County, Connecticut, with his wife, writer and marketer, Diane Meier.
Haven't read any Delaney's for a while, but having loved a couple and enjoyed 2 more, I was looking forward to this one. But for some reason, possibly me, it just didn't really engage me, altho I did finish it.
My personal favorite of the Amethyst Series of thrillers - all based on the exploration of evil, as exemplified by Nazi atrocities, and the fact that they could and did exist within a very civilized culture.
"At Ruby's" lovingly features the restoration of an ancient, French Chateau -- so I would be likely to love this book no matter what -- but/and -- no matter what -- I did just that.
Very much on the same beam as "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" before it existed, these three books garnered huge attention, best-seller status and great respect in Europe in the 1990's but thought to be too violent for our gentle sensibilities, they were never published in the USA.
The French are releasing them now under other titles to great attention and best selling numbers.
