Lowell: He was my bad-boy billionaire stepbrother... now he's my disinherited, sexy escort? FML! Kyle: She was my geeky, brace-faced stepsister... now she's a hot Hollywood actress? Lowell Barton is an actress who got in trouble by drinking to get over her problems. She puked on the police officer's shoes and it was caught on a video which spreads in the social media. It almost ruin her career and reputation but she will not allow that to happen. As a solution, she hires an escort to pretend as her boyfriend. Interestingly turns out to be her ex-stepbrother, Kyle Richards. These two didn't have a good relationship when they're kids and always throw each other some banters. Things changed between them as they saw each other in a different way.
Overall, it's a guilty pleasure read. I liked it. The romance is good, not much of a character development and the premise is easy to read but Lowell mostly frustrated me. She's really whiny in my opinion.
My feelings towards this book were up and down. At first I was bored out of my mind, that I was eating it up and then the ending left me "meh".
Lowell is a hollywood actress with prefectly clean reputation. After her director tells her that she needs to lose weight, she gets drunk, yells at police officers and then she throws up on them. Not an ideal situation but they made it seem like the world's ending for her. So what? She did something out of character but does that mean that no one will come see the movie, or that she'll lose her fans? I don't think so. I mean, look at what Miley does and she has more fans than ever..
Kyle is working as an escort. He used to party all night long and sleeping whole day but since his father has disowned him, he had to grow up. So, he became an escort. He's tired of it all so when his boss calls him that a young actress wants him to pretend to be her boyfriend so she could save her reputation he jumps at the opportunity.
When the ex-stepsiblings meet they are not excited in the least. But they have to do work it out and get over their childhood hatred.
Sometimes I really liked Lo. She was proud but not vain, she knew who she was and was confident about her body image. But sometimes she was so.. eh. (I don't really have the word to describe it except for "eh" :D)
I really hated Lo's mother. She was so shallow and she was the prototype of every golddigger out there. She even tried to blackmail her daughter while saying that she loves Lo. She even did press conference with press to earn money expecting that her daughter will be alright with it. Ugh.
Adult and mature Kyle was a sweetheart. Young Kyle was an asshole. He grew up to be kind, honest and hardworking.
The relationship between Lo and Kyle was too damn fast. Wham bam marry me ma'am. If it wasn't for the last couple of pages I'd have given it 4 stars but the ending was cheesy, cliché and harleqine like - which is not something I want to see in a "normal" novel.
One thing Lowell can’t stand is men telling her what to do. In this case it’s her director and producers who want her to loose weight. One video of her drunkenly complaining puts her career in jeopardy. She tries to pull a PR stunt by hiring an escort to be her pretend boyfriend. Problem just is that her new boyfriend is also her ex-stepbrother. Her ex-stepbrother whom she loathed while growing up.
Well, this was awkward. Lowell and Kyle’s parent were married for four years and had an ugly divorce. At first Lowell is resistant but Kyle needs the money since his father cut him off and he has no diplomas, no working experience. They put on a show for the media, being that couple where you (at least, me) are sure it’s one big PR stunt. Gym classes together, going to an event or hot spot every day, beautiful paparazzi pics. What I liked was how Lowell and Kyle put their differences aside to help each other out.
What I missed was a little more drama, a little more romance. Lowell and Kyle were lovely people who looked sweet together but I missed the fireworks. The big moment. Nonetheless I would recommend this book if you want nothing on your mind and just relax. Or as I like to call it, an “in-between” read.
I had a hard time connecting with Lowell and Kyle in the beginning. This was one of those stories that started out just ok but got better with each chapter. By the ending I was loving Kyle and Lowell together. I think it was hard to connect at first because both characters needed growth, which the author gave us as the story progressed. You can truly see both Lowell and Kyle become better people because of each other. Another good book by Leigh James!
Before I get into my review I wanted to talk about the title for a minute because it's a bit confusing. There seem to be two titles for this book that you'll find on Goodreads. I'm not totally for sure which one is the correct version but I'm leaning towards Ex-Billionaire Escort. There are also two completely different covers ... I'll just put the links at the bottom of my review so it is easy to find, no matter the name or cover.
I couldn't put this one down. I had so much stuff to do yesterday, yet if I had a free minute, I had this book in my hands. I found myself totally immersed into the world of Lowell and Kyle and I absolutely adored every single second of it. I don't say that very often about any book. I'm usually pretty hard on them because I've just read so many. But this one was a bit different for me ... it's about a step-brother and step-sister romance. Not something I've ever read before and that's because at first, I had a stomach turning reaction to the whole idea. I mean, they aren't blood related but they are technically brother and sister and that is taboo. Well ... ex-stepbrother and ex-stepsister ... anyhow. I'm glad that I took a giant leap out of my comfort zone because I've found another author that I really enjoy reading.
Leigh James kept me totally hooked from the very first page of this book. I loved how she set up the characters, I loved experiencing that transformation between and within each one. Actually, that may be my favorite part ... watching characters evolve into something different ... better or worse, I don't really care ... it's just something magical to read and I'm hoping that her other books are like this as well with regards to that because if so, I'll be delving into each and every single one of them.
Like I said, the basis of the story was something that I hadn't experienced before ... actually, I don't think I've read a book about an escort before either. I really enjoyed how the author kept this book moving along so quickly. The flow was awesome, there weren't any slow or sluggy (yes, I know that sluggy isn't a word but it should be) parts and I didn't find anything in this book that was just useless information or a waste of space.
I'll definitely read something else by this author some day. This was a good book and it has not received the ratings that I think it should have but it is what it is, I guess. You should give this a shot if you enjoy reading about stubborn but ruggedly handsome men who sometimes make poor choices and especially if you enjoy reading about a young woman who doesn't give up and stands up for herself.

Another step brother with a tale to tell but this one, for me, managed to draw me in.
I’m not sure what the fascination is about step brothers in particular so I only give books with this heading a cursory glance normally but this caught my eye on Netgalley. After checking it out on Amazon and seeing it was on KU I thought great, then accidentally bought it! So as I had paid for the book I decided to read it straight away and I wasn’t disappointed.
The story started with a background into the previous family life of Lowell and Kyle, brought together by their parent’s marriage but after their relationship broke down, neither Kyle nor Lo expected to see each other again. That is until Lo drunkenly, and very funnily, decides to give the police a piece of her mind and as a result her outburst becomes fodder for the gossip machine which surrounds her blossoming acting career.
With damage control needed, and fast, Lo decides to hire an escort to act as her boyfriend but little does she expect her ex-step brother Kyle to turn up at her door. Frustrations are quickly reignited as the two clash, as they had as teenagers, but Kyle sees something in Lo that has him developing feelings for her very quickly.
The story continues with Kyle doing everything he can to win over Lo, and the press who are watching her every move. He is caring, tender, supportive and before long Lo is powerless to resist his charms. Despite winning over Lo, Kyle knows that it’s their parents who hold the key to their future together and it’s not long before they find out their ex step siblings have fallen in love.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a light hearted read which was moderately captivating. I think the strength of the story lies with the characters rather than the stepbrother connection, which despite it being the main reason for Lo and Kyle not to be together, could be easily overlooked. Overall the book was a sweet contemporary romance and, as long as you don’t question the plot too indepthly, you won’t be disappointed.
**My thanks to Netgalley and the CMG Publishing LLC for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
First off, whoops. This seems to have been missed from being read for far too many years.... I had benn go back to all the older stuff and read it fast. Good thing I have been a lot slower at picking up any other ARC's. I have a mountain to read first lol.
This was a good story. Lowell is basically a good girl and keeps herself in check even when she was a little girl whilst her mother created all the drama. Now 22 years old, she is keeping her mother happy and is an up and coming Scarlett, but one drunken incident caught on camera could loose her everything.
Kyle was always a bit of a wild child, especially after the death of his mother when he was seven. He hated when his father remarried and did not like Lowells mother and found Lowell to be a pain in the butt, especially as she used to tell his father when he had done something naughty.
Finally after his father had cut him off from his trust fund, did Kyle finally find he had to grow up, but with very little to fall back on, he found himself working at an escort service and often having physical relations with woman who paid for him.
When Lowell needs help with her image, she decides to use an escort service and it is a surprise to both of them when they meet on her doorstep. But it would seem that it is beneficial for both of them. Kyle is to be paid well and Lowell finds that Kyle is actually very good with the media and public relations.
Of course they fall in love and there is something that tries to split them up and keep them apart, but ultimately they cannot be without each other and they make their worlds that much easier by supporting each others backs and dreams.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a little spice and a little taboo, but on the whole it was just a well written book with strong characters.
This is the story of Kyle and Lowell…. Why, just why, do authors feel the need to give female characters male names…ugh! It honestly drives me bonkers. I keep having to remind myself throughout the first few chapters of a story this is a male and female and when there are multiple females with male-ish names it just becomes downright confusing. 🤦♀️😏. Anywho this story has a reverse.scenario.
Lowell (female) is a Hollywood actress about to get her starring role. Kyle is an escort working at AccommoDating Escort Service. When Lowell is told to lose weight for the film, she goes out, drinks a few shots of tequila and gets caught in a rant against her producers who she feels constantly “mansplain” things to her. The car she’s in gets pulled over by police. She needs an immediate distraction… queue Kyle.…. who becomes her new, very attractive boyfriend… and the press loves him….. and eventually she does too.
The premise is very similar to others in this series. A little angst, an escort, and love. I will say it was hard, and maybe I never did, get past the fact Kyle was a trust fund baby who’d spent his whole life drinking and partying until daddy cut him off. He’d never had a legitimate job and no education or skills. That didn’t sit well with me. Hard to think of him as this controlling, masculine, alpha when he was destitute never mind that he was her former step-brother😏. Decent book, but not my favorite in this series.
I struggled to find into this story but now I'm so happy I didn't give up and continued. It was different from what I expected and an interesting blend of sweet romance, hot sex, flawed but very likable main characters.
I'm not sure if it's a cultural difference, but I really don't get the drama about the ex-stepsibling-relationship and why it could/should be a reason preventing those from any kind of intimate relationship. (I'm not sure I would have an issue with a relationship between adult stepsiblings, actually living in one family - especially if they didn't grow up together from early childhood - much less if the divorce of the parents was almost 10 years ago)
The only reason I didn't rate this book 5* were the main character's parents and the way their characters developed and
It was boring. Very meh, even the ending was so bland The premise of this one is also ridiculous. In what world would people not find out Kyle was an escort? Especially since he was in LA working and Lowell's supposedly a hot, up and coming actress. So already this was stupid. Then you have a boring story. Too much drama about them being step siblings when they were younger. And this author has mom issues, or hates moms because this is the second book where the mother is just awful. And can I just say that a traditional luau would NOT have bbq chicken, coconut-cashew rice, or shrimp kebabs. None of those foods are traditional luau food. Anyway I didnt think it could get worse than the first escort story, but it did. I'm going to try to read the third one....I dont think it could get any worse...I hope.
"Lowell: He was my bad-boy billionaire stepbrother... now he's my disinherited, sexy escort? FML! Kyle: She was my geeky, brace-faced stepsister... now she's a hot Hollywood actress? I LOVED the twist of the escort being a man. Sign me up for ALL the male escorts. Kyle's attraction to Lowell was so freakin' sweet and steamy. Their first scene where they finally gave into their desires was just. so. hot!!!!
I will say, I was a little upset at Leigh James' use of "y'all" as a substitute for singular "you". I'm from the South and dang as soon as I read that I knew she was a yankee (No offence, Leigh! I love yankees lol). It's unfortunately a major plot device, but for real Y'ALL we don't use the word as a singular!
So this book starts with Lo & Kyle who were step siblings at a young age for 4 years until their parents got divorced . About 8-9 years later they end up reuniting in some interesting circumstances and have to fake date for Lo’s career. What I liked about this book is how them being step siblings wasn’t a huge factor in the book since nothing ever happened at childhood it only did as they got older and I really enjoyed it
I am not a fan of step-sibling romances but this one was well written and didn't have the ick factor. Kyle's father and Lowell's mother were married for four years when they were in their early to mid teens so it is not like they grew up together and they hated each other at the time. Now years later Lowell needs a boyfriend and Kyle, who is working as an escort, turns up and is just what she needs. There is lots of drama and family angst but they eventually get their HEA and everyone is happy.
While not perfect (there were some typos that kind of took me out of the story), this is essentially a feel-good story with a happy ending. I wish I could give it a 3.5 star rating.
If I could change anything about this story I would say that the ending felt a bit lacklustre. While it does reach a conclusion and everyone is happy, it also leaves us with the antagonists winning as well which leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
This wasn't that bad. I thought Kyle would be trash. He wasn't that jerk he started as. I liked their relationship but those patents were the worse. I'm glad they kept fighting for what they wanted. They had a lot of people fighting against them. I wouldve liked to see more about them in the future like the 1st book did.
Lowell has gotten in trouble after being videotaped drunk. In order to save her role in her film, she decides to pay an escort to pretend to be her new boyfriend. The new boyfriend shows up and turns out to be her idiot former stepbrother. Kyle has matured and Lowell has to fight her growing attraction to him while keeping the tabloids from discovering their secret.
I have a bit of a problem with step-siblings love stories but this one was well written. They each had family issues and problems but they also wanted to help each other and be together. You find yourself rooting for them and happy that they found their happily ever after.
I’m sorry but there’s some level of sick when you are pairing a stepsister/stepbrother in a romance novel. Why not a childhood friend or a childhood bully? This is worse than PornHub.
Lowell and Kyle hated each other as step siblings but years later she hires an escort and Kyle shows up. They put on a show for the press while falling in love. A great story!
The escort collection is very good at taking you away from reality. It has its hero’s and bad guys. The sex scenes aren’t over the top which is nice. It awful when your reading a book and it’s all sex this series is about a lot more than sex. It has good storyline
I initially struggled to get into this book, and i think this was due to the concept of a male escort. However once i got past this i flew through reading it. The family perceptions and greed for their own self gain and not that of their childrens happiness highligted added individual challenges.
