A brutal but excellent book three of the series.

Viola is captured and forced to be trained as a killer in the pit. This reminded me of the barbaric practices of the Roman empire, where humans were forced to battle in the arena for the entertainment of the rich and the masses...shudder.

Torture and cruelty are just two of the themes of the story, although, there is also friendship, loyalty and love.

There are some great characters - both good and bad - and a wonderful sense of place, making this a compelling read. Surprises, too.

Overall, a brilliant well-written fantasy.

Highly recommended.

Good book that delves into what makes a person and how life experiences can help a person to . . . adapt their personas as necessary.

Jeff has done it again!!! Viola! Jarlen, what can I say these characters are amazing! I thought for sure this might be the last book in the series. To my delight it is not! I can't wait to read more of this world! With a completely new twist! Must read!!!
