Pulled from a relaxing shower, across the galaxy to Old Earth, Galactic Marshall Kyle Kepler finds himself naked and marooned with a quirky rim rat. Zana's broken more laws than Kyle can count, and he plans to arrest her, just as soon as he can find transport off the planet and a pair of pants.

A junk heap of a starship, a magical tree, and a roving gang of mutant kangaroos are just the beginning of rollicking intergalactic journey filled with laughs, love, and adventure.

Between Venus & Mars is the first sci-fi read in The Soul Mate Tree Collective, but even though it’s the third book in the series you do not need to read the prior books to enjoy this one. What The Soul Mate Tree Collective gives us is a series of standalone novels, allowing you to pick and choose across thirteen months which of the stories you would like to read. Thus far I have picked them all up, and they have all been wonderful. I think Realm of the Dragon is my favourite but Between Venus & Mars is certainly a close second. I probably shouldn’t be ranking them just yet, considering we only have three stories (and all three were wonderful reads), yet with how much I’ve enjoyed the stories thus far I’m already setting high standards for the future books. I’m fairly certain that by the time we reach the thirteenth book my mind will have been blown.

Despite being a fan of sci-fi novels, I’m very particular about which sci-fi books I will pick up. They have to scream out to me before I’ll give them a read, and this one certainly caught my interest. Just because a sci-fi novel manages to reach the stage of me being willing to pick it up, it does not mean it will be a good read. Fortunately, this one delivered even more than I had expected.

What we have is a very interesting intergalactic system. I would have liked to know a little bit more, but what we were given was plenty enough to understand and love the story. Our female lead comes from a planet on the edge of the system, earning her the label ‘rim rat’. Due to the planet she was born on, our female has very unique views on galactic laws. It certainly makes for an interesting read, especially when our hunk is a marshal. That alone put him in my fantasies. A space cop? Sign me right up! Seriously, I have this thing for cops; thus, giving one authority in all of space and I’m so down for such a male lead. But yes, back to the intergalactic system: we get interesting snippets of a handful of planets, but the main focus is upon planet earth.

You see, earth isn’t what it once was. It’s changed, and been taken over by… well, I’m not going to say what. Just know it makes for a very amusing read. At first I was a bit like ‘huh, what’, but once the details were given and we got to see how things played out I was more than a little bit amazed at how something so simple could become so captivating. Honestly, the changes that have occurred to earth make it a wonderful backdrop to the story.

And what a story it is.

The story was super addictive, leaving me on the edge of my seat as to what would happen next. It all seemed so simple, and yet it make for a very intricate story. The way things come together is wonderful, and I loved watching each new aspect unfold. My favourite aspect, of course, was the interaction between our lead characters. The chemistry between them was wonderful: I loved every moment of it. So much amusement came from their interaction, but throughout I found it to be beautiful.

Overall, this was another brilliant addition to The Soul Mate Tree Collective. Once again, I’ve been introduced to a new author that needs more of my attention.

Okay, when our hero Kyle showed up to face 3 dozen or more roos, from the kangaroo gang who called our heroine “humie” for human and TOLD her they were going to eat her, he had a head full of shampoo and was totally naked and thought nothing of it. He had to have walked around talking their way out of getting eaten by the roos while promising them something “magic” and he looked around her ship, still naked, and ate a “kelp bar," still naked and looking for something magical, still naked, he could give to the dim-witted roos, since he told them he was a god and offered them magic not to eat them. So, he found a light of some kind and went back out, still naked, to offer it to the roos to light their way when it was dark, and the roos were happy.

All the while he walked around naked Zana was checking out his ass and when he faced her she couldn’t help but look at his weenie (*snicker*). And he couldn’t help but get hard when she did. AND she had all kinds of stupid thoughts…. She was a virgin and wasn’t sure about anything.

I finally had to stop and go to Goodreads to see who wrote this. Sure-as-shit, it was written by a man. That’s why Kyle wasn’t embarrassed about being naked and why it took him so long to find something to cover himself. That’s a man’s way of thinking: just keep that thing swinging in the wind while you do everything under the sun EXCEPT cover it.

It was an okay story with a bunch of silliness going on. I can’t read and enjoy a story written by a man. The sexiness is just too… too… I don’t even know but it’s too something. Without the sex-thoughts and sex-talk and the sex itself it would have been a much better story.

There was pretty graphic sex and the F-bomb was used 34 times.

Excerpt: With her sidearm leveled on the eight surly creatures, she took a step back. “Leave me alone and nobody gets hurt.”

“An’ if we don’t leave you alone, maybe we get dinner.” The speaker was the biggest roo in the pack. “I ain’t had humie before, but I hears it tastes good.”

Its grin bared fanged teeth at the end of its long snout. Floppy ears perked up on top of its head as a narrow sneer tilted the side of its mouth. “Humies aren’t supposed ta’ be here, so’s if we eat you, nobody knows or cares.”

“Back off. I’m warning you.” She didn’t want to shoot them. They were just dumb animals. Well, maybe one evolutionary step above dumb animals. Still, if they surrounded her, she could kiss her ass, and her planet’s survival, goodbye.

Zana squared her shoulders. She could handle eight roos, no problem. The blaster was set for stun, so no permanent damage. I’ll just shoot ’me and get the hell out of here.

To her left, four more floppy–eared heads popped up.

Oh, not good.

A third group of five rose up on her right.

“Crap,” she muttered, as the mousy-eared marsupials maneuvered to surround her. They were slow-witted, primitive creatures, but strong as shit.

She could only hope they’d played their hand before their trap closed behind her. If so, she still had a chance.

Now or never . . . She whirled around and raced away.

Review: I am going to give this book 4.5 stars. I loved the comedy that runs rampant throughout the book. The plot is different and the characters are well developed.

I was laughing so hard at the beginning of the book that teras were streaming down my face. The mutated kangaroos are just the right side of silly.
Zana is in deep trouble and thus she runs to the Soulmate Tree, which was part of her mission, she wanted to see if she could find it. Her Uncle told her stories about it and he was also affected by it. So, her soulmate comes to her just in the nick of time. Although she didn’t expect him to be naked.

I was impressed on how Kyle is also a different type of character, as I thought he would freak out being dragged from his shower and into a battle with Roos.

You06 can feel the sparksflying between them as soon as they lock eyes.. As they fix up her ship to go back to her planet with needed materials, He finds it hard to think of her as a law breaker.

They stick together between crazy Roo sand treachery the bond gets incredibly strong. I wish there was a Soulmate tree around here so I could find the perfect mate. This is a fast read that throws you into a new worldworld.

Between Venus & Mars (The Soul Mate Tree Book 3)
By: S.C. Mitchell
5 out of 5 stars

The story Between Venus & Mars (The Soul Mate Tree Book 3) by S.C. Mitchell is a science fiction/fantasy book. Zana Starchild is on a mission to find livestock to replace what was stolen from her tribe. She has decided to try Old Earth even though it is illegal to go there. Everything changes once she crashes on the planet and needs to find another way home. Kyle Kepler can’t believe what has just happened. He was enjoying a relaxing shower when all of a sudden he is on Old Earth in front a beautiful woman, with no clothes on. As a Galactic Marshall, he has sworn to uphold the law. So he plans to arrest Zana once he can find a way off the planet. The only problem is that the more time he spends with Zana the more he falls for her.

This story is a wonderful addition to the Soul Mate Tree series. It has plenty of humor and romance. I have come to realize that the Tree knows just where it needs to be. Zana and Kyle are wonderful characters. Zana is a headstrong woman who is bound and determined that she will find livestock for her tribe so they will not starve. Family is also very important to her. She doesn’t have any experience with relationships, however, believes that Kyle is her soul mate. Kyle has been comfortable just going along day to day. He likes his job and doesn’t have plans for the future, other than the vacation time he is going to take. Then he meets Zana and his outlook on life changes. I have to say that I found the talking mutant kangaroos very entertaining and the references to Old Earth and what had happened there very interesting. I highly recommend you leave your afternoon open for reading as once you start this story you will not want to put it down. This story does have adult situations which would make this a book for mature readers. I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited and voluntarily reviewed it.

“Between Venus and Mars” by S.C. Mitchell is a science fiction romance story that is part of ‘The Soul Mate Tree’ series. Zana Starchild is on a desperate mission to save her family and friends from starvation after space pirates pillaged their planet. Her trip to the forbidden Old Earth may reap unexpected benefits, if her uncle’s stories about a remarkable tree have a basis in fact. Of course, she will have to survive the roving bands that want to eat her and convince Mr. Hunky Chunky, aka Galactic Marshal Kyle Kepler, that not only does he need to not arrest her (and perhaps wash the slimy stuff out of his hair) but that he has been magically transported to meet his soul mate—her.

This was such a fun story that combined creative twists on various science fiction staples such as space pirates, settling of other planets, a galactic peace-keeping force, and the fall of Earth’s civilizations, while providing both humorous and romantic interludes. The chemistry between the main characters balances the conflict between them and I was kept entertained by both their adventures and the way they interact with each other. I liked the challenge they faced to reconcile pragmatism about survival and following the letter of the law and I enjoyed the creativity and determination that both main characters displayed. Although this is a quick and lighthearted read, this story appealed to my love of science fiction and tied in with the series nicely. I think this is the first book I have read by this author, but I certainly will be on the lookout for more of his stories.

This is a book filled with scenes where you laugh and root for Zana and Kyle. It becomes the haves and have nots and Kyle ends up wanting to help her and her people if they are able to leave Earth in her old dilapidated starship.
I found the book a fun read. It was as good, if not better than the first one I read which was set in the sixties and seventies. I loved the sci-fi future with the emphasis on finding a soul mate. You can’t help but root for Zana who is desperate to save her people, doesn’t want a soul mate so much as someone to help her get home.
There is some foul language and a few love scenes which fit the book and didn’t detract from the story. I give the book five stars since I had to keep reading to discover what happened next even though I knew they would end up together and it was a matter of where. Give it a try and discover a wonderful author who tells a fun story. Reviewed by Barbara

Cute and chuckle worthy!

"You’re a very good bad influence on me.” That line is gold!
This was a fun read (for adult audiences) full of crazy ideas, action, adventure and romance! Just the sort of mix I was hoping for when Mitchell blends sci-fi. Don't let the cover fool you! While this book does have a lot of the cheesy dialogue and cheeky lines you'd expect it's also jam packed full of sweet, heartfelt moments of family and friendship.
I loved how Mitchell created his own cool ships and planets. I appreciated how much consent and topics like contraception were integrated seamlessly into this adventure without coming across as preachy or awkward at all.
Very refreshing romance. I would read this again.

Between Venus & Mars is a fun addition to this loosely connected series. Zana Starchild is a sweet, snarky young woman way out of her depth but she is doing what she has to in order to save her colony. Galactic Marshall Kyle Kepler is on vacation when he is pulled into Zana’s drama. What she is doing is technically illegal but then again her colony is starving and their calls for help have gone unanswered. Kyle doesn’t know whether to arrest her or kiss her. Zana knows which she is hoping for.
This story is a rapid fire tale that will keep you flipping pages and rooting on the underdog.

If you enjoy a really good laugh and a tongue-in-cheek space opera, then this is the book for you. I laughed until my sides hurt. Zana has left her planet in a spaceship that crashed on her planet and takes it to earth; where she is not supposed to go. It is against the law for anyone to land on earth now, but Zana's people need food as some space pirates took all the tribe's animals and now the people are in danger of starving. She does not know how to fly a spaceship, but manage to crash onto earth.
There she runs across the Soul Mate Tree as she is being chased by a large mob of mutant roos who want to eat her. She asks the tree to send her to her promised mate, but the tree brings Kyle to her on earth instead. Kyle is a cop, a marshal, and he thinks that Zana is a criminal who has somehow transported him to earth. He helps her to pacify the roos and then he and Zana go to old Los Angeles to get parts to fix the space ship so it can fly again. They also find food replicators and lacto-protein to use in the replicators. These can be taken back to Zana's people.
After some trouble with the authorities, when both Zana and Kyle are put into jail, but on different planets; they finally get out of jail; Kyle resigns from the Marshals and now he and Zana can be together and raise a family on Zana's planet.

I loved it and I am planning on looking more into S. C. Mitchell's books. This one of the series had me the most excited about the tree. I didn't even think of the tree until Kyle was racing through the galaxy to get back to the tree in order to save his true love. I loved it. I wish there was a second to this or a short story to hear what happens next. I loved the characters so much. I hope her other books have the same feel as this one did. Great book!

What a fun novella - set in future space, with a bit of magic and lot of love thrown in for good measure. Mitchell draws his characters with a gentle hand, teasing his reader with insights all along, so that it's like getting to know a new friend when you read his books. In this one, we have a battle between good and evil and a playful spin on potential future technology.

This is just plain fun, people. Adventures in space, evolving kangaroos, magic trees, pirates, and galactic marshals all combine to provide a wildly entertaining romantic adventure. If you love Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy, and--dare I say it--Galaxy Quest, you'll enjoy this humorous and inventive novella.

This little story checked off so many boxes for me. This is a new-to-me-author in this new series of the Soul Mate Tree and it was GOOD! I'm not a fan of sci-fi. Period. But again, this was good! I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud at the characters and the battles (monsters!) that they faced! What would you do if you were stranded on "old" planet Earth with a naked "cop"? I don't know about you, but I would be mighty distracted! Especially since his job didn't make him friendly about being there with me!! Anywho, this is a fun story and I fully enjoyed this authors take on the Soul Mate Tree.

I received this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Read an excerpt and follow the Goddess Fish book tour here.
Laugh-out-loud funny and sweet. I read BETWEEN VENUS AND MARS in one sitting. I’ve been on a major scifi kick lately, and it came time for me to read this book. For my scifi kick, it did not disappoint, and the romance was so satisfying.
The two main characters of this story come from two different worlds, literally and figuratively. But that doesn’t stop them from working as a couple well. Zana is from a primitive-ish outlying world and is on a rather illegal mission to find food for her starving people. Kyle is in law-enforcement, which creates nice tension against the rather illegal nature of Zana’s quest. Both are fully realized characters I could totally see myself having coffee with, especially Zana. Her consistent bad language should be at odds with her innocence (sexual and otherwise), but it’s not at all. She actually reminded me of a younger version of myself a little. By contrast, Kyle does not curse (for the most part). One might expect the character who’s in law-enforcement to be more crude, but this role reversal of sorts was just great.
The humor is spot-on. I especially love the tree’s “help” in getting Zana and Kyle together. On the opposite end of the humor is a truly sweet romance and seriously dangerous situation for Zana. It all balances perfectly into an action-packed, heartfelt and funny package.
Lastly, I loved the incorporation of earlier stories in the Soul Mate Tree series as reference materials for Zana to figure out how the tree worked. I’m the person who loves when actors are given lines that refer to another movie they were in, and this felt like that. So cool. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a quick read with a little bit of everything.

**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**

A fun and sexy adventure through space!

Zana isn't supposed to be on the planet she's just crash-landed on. But she's on a mission to save her people and the only way to do that is to collect livestock for food. This planet has plenty of that. And it also has another perk, a supposedly magical tree that will connect you with your own soul mate. When she runs into a gang of violent roos, she sure hopes the legend of the tree is real and her one true love will come save her.

Kyle's shower is rudely interrupted by a woman claiming a silly tree is responsible for his space travel to a forbidden planet. He doesn't believe it, but he's naked and about to be attacked by roos. His options are a little limited. So this undercover agent bluffs his way out of the situation and into a pair of pants. Then he has to decide what to do about this alluring woman who is violating so many galaxy laws... and winning his heart.

This book was a pleasant surprise and just the distraction I needed for a busy work weekend. From the very first page, I was sucked into the story and I hated to put this down in order to work. After reading several books in this series, all pretty great stories with the same soul mate tree as the center theme, this one might be my favorite.

I immediately fell in love with our heroine and I must say that our hero's entrance to the story was hilarious and a nice twist on the story. The entire premise of Old Earth and the roo gangs was fascinating for me. It had a post-apocalyptic feel to it when our characters were on that planet, which was pretty neat. I may never look at kangaroos the same way.

Our couple were nicely written and their love story was sweet with some steam. Even though the heroine was a virgin, she didn't act like an immature and helpless female, just one who was inexperienced. I appreciate that. Past the halfway point, I began to wonder if there was going to be any more conflict. Oh, there was. When it hit, it was like one exciting twist after another and I was a little sad to see it end.

In closing...
Such a great addition to this series! Four suns!

4.5 STARS REVIEW

Romantic Fantasy, more like Sci Fi Romance.

Book #3 of a series. This book can be read as a stand-alone. I haven't read the first two books of the series and I've really enjoyed the story. But there were little snippets of the previous books and I feel like I must go back and read the series in order.

Addictiveness: Highly Addictive. This was a fast, sexy, fun read! I could barely put the book down.
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5  Yes!!! They were both so easy to love, connect and understand. Zana was sassy, a bit "primitive"and so fun. Kyle was the opposite. He was a marshal, from a totally different world than Zana. Oh, I fell in love with both characters and their Ying/Yang thing worked fine. They complemented each other.
Cover: art 3.5/5, title 5/5, subtitle 5/5, color-font 3.5/5, buy 3.5/5 I'm obsessed with book covers and I love to "read"snippets of the story on it. I don't love the art work of this one, but it fits the story perfectly. I'm crazy about the title. It is perfect for the story. Being completely honest, I'm not sure I would buy this book without reading the blurb.
Freshness: Unique! This book is definitely one-of-a-kind. Feels very fresh and new!
Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Great opening and wonderful ending. Really good conflict and fun dialogues. Fast-paced with enough subplots to enhance the story. A few unexpected twists here and there, that makes this story believable and enjoyable. This plot was amazing. It kept me on the edge of my seat, never knowing what would come next. There is no loopholes on this plot, everything is there for a reason and it all makes sense. I LOL from the beginning until the end of this book. The way the couple met was FANTASTIC. I'm still laughing here, just remembering. The world-built of this "old-Earth" was so interesting  and captivating. This was a superb plot!
Romance: believable 4/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 3/5 I loved it! They were perfect to each other.  Zana was a bit more rustic than Kyle. She cussed a lot, broke the law a lot and at the same time was innocent. Kyle was more "refined", didn't cuss much, was part of the law. Their love story was funny and sexy!
Writing Style: I'm so impressed with this. It was fabulous!!! Wonderful characters with fantastic plot and a sexy, fun romance. What is not to like?

My first book by this author and I'm very curious to stalk him a bit and see what else he has out there.
