Harper might get an uncanny gut feeling every now and then, but that didn’t mean she believed in portents, and certainly not the kind that got her abducted. As Harper gripped the bars of her cage, in the alien prison; it sunk in that she seriously had been kidnapped from Earth, to become the fated consort of some alien prince. This wasn’t some elaborate prank, or government experiment. True to form, Harper pissed off the tyrannical king with her refusal. Now she found herself at the mercy of convicts, locked away and forgotten in the bowels of a mountain.
Harper’s gaze fell on a shadowy beast of a man, sitting casually on the rundown catwalk. The imposing man looked like he ruled the prison. He was the color of midnight, and his eyes were that eerie arctic blue, that was nearly colorless. Harper shivered as he regarded her.
All Nameless knew was the Hold, with its misery and struggle. He never wanted to keep a female, surviving was hard enough, but that was before the Pink Pearl dropped into his world. Nameless had never seen anything like the stunning exotic little creature. Not only was she the catalyst for strange dreams and revelations about his past, but she made him feel. He had to have her. >Harper wanted free of the alien prison, and she wanted to go home, except Nameless wasn’t prepared or willing to let her go, even if she hated him because of it. He owned every part of her, and bound her to him, in ways that could never be undone, collar or no collar. In her wildest dreams, Harper never imagined the twists destiny could take, or that she would find soul deep satisfaction with such a nameless fate. Follow Harper and Nameless as they struggle to get free of the Hold, and seek their revenge on the despot responsible for putting them there.
Note: This book contains erotic scenes where the dominant hero bends the heroine to his will. What pisses her off the most, is that she likes it.
Writing is my hobby. As a child, I had a hard time learning to read, so anything I took an interest in was deemed acceptable. I have always enjoyed fairy tales, the older unsanitized versions, as well as the modern ones, mythology, science fiction, action and romance. As I read, my mind wanders, spinning its own tales. So, I figured I’d share my ramblings with you. The books I write contain little snippets from my life. I leave it to you to decide which scenes are fact, fiction, or a bit of both. I am far braver and bolder than is likely sensible, so my heroines are just as gutsy. I'd probably be categorized as an adrenalin junky. My life has been an adventure. I've done archaeology in the hot sun, am well versed with power tools, took Tae Kwon Do in college, have ridden on a Harley with a dark stranger, but never met an alien, vampire or shifter, that I know of. My stories are tawdry, feature a heroine who is gifted in some way, and will always end happily ever after. It is my opinion this is meant to be entertainment, and a depressing ending is not entertainment. Real life offers enough depressing crap. However, I have been called dark. My apologies for my horrific grammar. It is something I struggle with. It is probably connected to the slow reading thing. Believe me people have tried. I truly hope that my fairy tales make up for it.
Harper a bond agent is kidnapped from earth on account of her unusual tattoo and a prophecy. Due to her not playing the submissive female and accepting her new role she finds herself thrown into the hold a prison deep in the mountain where the prisoners are left to survive however they can its survival of the fittest and baddest down there. Catching the reluctant eye of Nameless or Shadow as Harper initially calls him her new reality is a living nightmare and Harper must learn to survive however she can. So I really liked both Nameless and Harper, Nameless was just so alpha and dominant but he was also super protective. He was a complete hard-ass but could also bend just for Harper when it was warranted, he also took no bull from her and made the hard choices when needed. I also adored the sexy way Nameless pronounced her name HARpurr, so delicious. Harper well she was resilient without being over the top tough, she recognised that she needed a protector in the hell-hole she currently found herself in, she was the right balance of capable but also knew when to stand back and her self-sufficiency only made her more attractive. The chemistry and heat between Harper and Nameless was scorching and I loved the rough and dominant claiming between them it was super hot. This was told from dual POV and was a really decent length. This managed to keep my attention and was a really great well-written story and I would definitely recommend I enjoyed it massively.
This author's books don't get all the attention they deserve. The writing style is brilliant and full of imagination and lots of research in the back that can only make a great story. After reading her Cadi Warriors I was mesmerized by the worlds she creates and decided to dive into this book. Let me tell you I was no let down. Another alien world full of different species and traditions and culture is brought to life. You would think this is the usual trope of alien abducts human female , she is thrown to general prison and has to sell herself for protection, well you could't be more mistaken! It is so much more to this book. Beside the world building, the culture, the different types of aliens is an entire suspenseful plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I wanted so many times to get in there and get my hands dirty . Nameless ( aka Shadow aka -you'll have to read to find out) is a very complex character that tries very hard to be the best side of himself. He is strong , dominant growling man but in the same time so very gentle and enamored with Harper. Speaking of , Harper , as S.W heroines she is intelligent, resourceful , caring and adaptive. I loved both of them and how they created a strong connection despite all odds. They have very hot steamy scenes, and if you love a overbearing dominating male like I do, you ll love the smut too. The secondary character are as always in Stephanie West books an important addition to the story. They come together and help and have eachothers backs like a true family.
“He carved out a place meant only for him in her soul and filled it up with equal measure. Nameless shook her to her very foundations, then fortified her, making her stronger than she was before. He owned her, but in that wondrous possession he set her free.”
I simply could not connect with this read. I made it 67% and it felt as if it was droning on and on. The storyline was slow. The descriptions of the MC and secondary/future MCs did not trigger a thought of “Oh that’s hot!”
This book made me a wee bit mad- but I held on an finished it. To bad because I like the premise. Bounty hunter, Harper, decides to volunteer for a medical trail that has to do with birthmarks- and what do you know- her unusual crescent shaped birthmark was exactly what the creepy doctor examining her was looking for. Next thing she knows Harper is slated to be the new consort to an alien prince all due to some prophecy.
The bad spoilers:
The love interest. Hated him. He was an idiot. So at one point in the story Harper escapes and ends up with the armadillo people-she safe AND has a way out. In comes horny d- bag. Why would he take her back to the hold?
I get the collar idea, but she was safe, and all the other creeps and killers thought she was dead-Yay! No one was trying to rape and kill her! So why bring her back and let them know she was still alive? Just so he could fuck her?
I get the alpha bad boy/ dubious consent concept but this was straight up rape. She said no. Even if her body responded there was no consent or understanding between them- but Nameless just had to claim her so the other killers wouldn't challenge him? Wouldn't they try to take her regardless- they tried later even though he forced himself on her. Then the smug asshole had the audacity to laugh in her face afterwards and collar her.
"Nameless couldn't help but smile as he held Harper against his chest. He wasn't entirely proud of himself, he'd basically forced Harper."
Basically? No dude ya did.
Afterwards Harper is fine with it because she needs his protection- but she only needed his protection because he dragged her back into danger.
More crap: *you saved or helped me but it was dangerous so I must punish you now female *I own you-mine mine mine *do what I say because you have no choice- but, love you! *fate/ connection/ insta love *you treat me like a pet and do things I don't like- but ur hot- so its cool in the end
whatever- after that one scene I almost DNF'ed but finished anyway
What kind of useless crap, is this?! I read the Cadi series and loved it even with the word “rotten” every few sentences in EVERY SINGLE BOOK. But this right here was garbage. First the character, Harper, starts out describing herself as a strong willed female who is looking for happily ever after but can’t seem to find a guy that actually matches her strength. She gets swept up by some alien witch doctor during some sort of doctors visit (I guess) with a fated prophecy all to end up on an alien planet as a concubine and then get thrown in prison because she refuses to be that concubine. Only to then get forced into prison sexual assault by none other than the hero in the story, Nameless. Does our main female keep her badass quality that she spoke about in the beginning while we got to know her? No! Instead she turns into a gutless wonder who whines and ??sings?? ...while being mistreated. That doesn’t match the qualities she introduced us to. Not only that but after getting forced by Nameless into sex to save her from being molested by other prisoners but she does not go back to her proposed “badassery”. She does become fiercely determined to hold on to her big girl boots. She falls for her abuser full-stop! I was appalled at Nameless for mourning her loss after not wanting to burden himself with her only to find her SAFE. in the prison cavern and decide “Aight, I guess I’m gonna take back to the prison and force her into sex because I don’t wanna look soft in the prison. No explanation required.”... Seriously??!? And Harper, instead of pushing him away after being violated.... Does she let him know that this will not be tolerated and that he has to earn her respect in order get “in the panties”? Nope! What does she do? She turns into his hot and bothered private prison toy for tasteless granola bars and protection with sing capabilities. She got better treatment from the armadillo creatures that fed her roasted cockroaches. This book was horrifically unrealistic and downright annoying. Halfway through the book I cannot read anymore because I was either rolling my eyes or falling asleep at how boring the cliches got. I ended my misery halfway through when I read that she agrees to forced marriage by her sexy abuser(because that’s exactly what nameless is) after the werewolf alpha, that tried to forcibly claim her in the prison, decided to again forcibly add her to his harem...because, of course, another witch doctor prophecy. That was enough for me. I was downright disgusted at the abuse-to-love scenario. I had originally skipped over this series a few times and now I know why. It’s not just that the cover art that was unappealing but the story itself. This went way beyond trash into hot, steaming refuse territory. For a soft BDMS novel this was fifty shades of nonsense.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After a dopey start, this became above-average for the sub-genre. The dark brooding alpha who must protect the poor human woman who is kidnapped because, well I'm not sure why. The best way to protect her, claim her publicly. A solid story, with our clever girl becoming the pivot point for the big lugs around her. The sex is hot (and occasionally public), but the vocabulary is sometimes awkward (similar to the Cadi books). The sexual relationships among the secondary characters could have been explored further.
This is a stand-alone story, with a lead-in for the sequel, which I will read.
dnf she was so damn close to freedom but the asshat hero took her back to prison and acted as if he's protecting her, he raped her (even tho the author made it look as if she finally enjoyed it and he was taunted into fucking her), then when she tries to help him in a fight he collars her like an animal and expects her to act like the slave she tried not to become when she refused to have sex with the prince. He wanted her kneel for him, she refused, he smacked her ass, then walla, now it's fucking alright.
I don't think I can read these types of books anymore.
I don't mind books that have a strong BDSM connotation (I think I'm using that word right), but that is not what this book does. In a good BDSM book you have an idea from the start that the h (or H as the case may be) likes or wants that kind of lifestyle, or you get the slow burn where the H slowly introduces the h (or the other way around) in to it. In this book one second the Harper likes what Nameless is doing to her but in the next she doesn't. It's like the author doesn't know if she wants Harper to be socked and mad and never forgive him or if she wants her to embrace what Nameless is doing to her.
I just don't like the flip flop way Harper acts. In the same thought she hates him wants nothing to do with him, then bam! she gets all lovey dovey over a little cut.
It's sad cuz I really liked the world building and the characters. Besides the few spelling and grammar errors (not enough to bother me) I liked the book. I just couldn't get past .
I really wanted to like this book. I kept reading longer than I should have cuz I started getting more and more upset. I just wish that Harper either embraced this new side of her, or she somehow got through to Nameless, that she was not that type of girl and if he pushed too hard it would brake her. And that's what I got out of this book; Harper felt the former then the latter over and over again, to the point where I couldn't take it anymore.
Anyway, if you can get past the above, more power to you cuz this really seems like it could be a good book.
Thank goodness for authors who are willing to take the time and effort to convert their fabulous ideas into books! Stephanie West not only has amazingly creative ideas, but is also a wee bit kinky and I love it. It is very rare to have a book of this length without many areas that drag. With rare exception there were no parts that became boring (perhaps one or two erotic scenes towards the end, when I just wanted to know what happened next), and I had a hard time putting the book down once I started.
Although there are a smattering of editing misses through the book understanding is not hampered. The writing in Nameless Fate shows marked improvement over previous books, . Mainly it is just such a riveting story, with strong characters, and a fascinating world. I sure would love to see a picture of Zaftan and Blaidd - it's particularly difficult for me to picture Zaftan, who is apparently a species that looks like elephants. The supporting characters do add a lot of entertainment to the story.
Now to wait for Blaidd's story to come out. That should be fun!
Nameless Fate was a really enjoyable read. Nameless was a wonderful, caring, possessive male and Harper was feisty, strong and loyal. Together they made a wonderful couple with great chemistry and connection. I loved the prophecy aspect and how everyone had a part in it. My biggest complaint is that the story was just to long and honestly around the 70% mark on my Kindle I did start to lose interest. Now with that said I do plan to read book 2.
Uwaaaa~ This was not what I was expecting. In a good wayy!
I'm sure y'all have also read a couple other prison planet sci-fi alien romances so we all know how the score goes and it was pretty much the same except a lot more fleshed out with actual real plot other than the escaping from the prison either cause they were wrongfully imprisoned or cause they're too cool for prison *shrugs*
Didn't like the H that much, had I been younger he wouldn't have bugged me as much but now? Well the alpha bullshit what I say goes really chafes now xD I did like the h, calm under pressure and a can do attitude.
I'm so happy I found this series. Nameless has survived through it all. Being locked away his whole life for no apparent reason is hideous. When Harper arrives in the pit, he's scared to get his hopes up...but he's drawn to her.
Harper is one strong lady with a sharp mind and biting tongue. Thankfully her snark is well done and doesn't get annoying after a while. This adventure is fast-paced with lots of twists and turns.
Harper is a bounty hunter, who goes to her doctors for a 'skin test' and ends up being foodies and kidnapped. Believed to be the consort of an alien prince. The prince ( who is a good sort) does not rape her on command and after defying the king ( BOO HISS ) the prince is beaten and Harper is sent off to 'the hold' to rot.... until she changes her mind about blinking the prince...or the inmates change it for her.
Nameless has no idea who he is, abandoned as a baby and left in a 'space orphanage' for 15 years, he is then sent to the hold. At 30 years old, he is one of the longest surviving inmates, searching for a way to escape. Until a cage is lowered, instead of the expected food rations for the inmates to fight over, it contains a woman...Harper.
This book was a slow starter, but in a good way, building up layer by layer and introducing a range of charachters ( for potential sequels!!). I liked the development of the relationship between Harper and nameless, he was quite funny at times and she was didn't roll over and give up at the first sign of hard times.
The book is in two parts the first is in the prison which I really enjoyed. The second was more focused on overthrowing the king ( boo hiss ) I won't say more as I don't want to give too much away. A lot of shove and grunt scenes ( potentially too many?) I like a shove and grunt scene but I wanted more of a focus on the story at this point. Because the story was really good, action, betrayal and kick ass heroine who saves herself!! YAS!!!!!
This is the second book I've read by Stephanie west and I really like her writing style, she manages to create likeable charachters whose actions at times can be quite suspect... I like my good guys with a touch of bad. I wasn't disappointed. I will be looking at more from this author.
Great book if you aliens meeting their fated mate stories.
Heroine is thrown into prison when she refuses to have sex with the prince. While in prison, an alien male takes her hostage. Of course they fall in love and it turns out he's her fated mate.
Lots of hot intimate scenes. Good world building (prisons with shock collars, alien bugs that don't eat live flesh, only waste and dead bodies, etc.)
I liked the secondary characters too. I think the elephant like alien, Zaftan should get a book.
And there was an actual plot to go along with all of the hot moments between the hero and heroine.
I would definitely read more books from this author. I took off 1 star because of a few typos, "latter" was spelled later, and "sons" was missing an apostrophe, stuff like that.
Not a bad book but I was not a fan in the direction the author went.
Part 1 - 3/5
Part 2- 1/5
The important reveals were very off handed and the build between our hero and heroine was not there for me. Nameless and accepted his fate way too quickly and Galen being in the hold was a bit too much of a coincidence.
This book is very prophecy heavy and I felt like it leaned on that device too much for me
I tried so hard to finish this but DNF at 70% Im still counting this as “read”since i read well over 350 pages.
This book needs to be set in “prison” and “post prison”. For the former I give the reading a 3.5 maybe could round to 4. The second part it’s absolutely tedious and not worth the bother. Each time I tried to pick it back up I hated it just a tad bit more. Leaving this DNF for my sanity.
DNF at 30% I’m so sad 😞 I was so looking forward to this and what I read was actually really great so why prey tell did I DNF this? Allow me to shed some light on the subject…
⚠️ Spoilers ahead ⚠️
So this starts out with our heroine being abducted from earth and gifted to some emperor/ Lord of some planet/kingdom and as a gift she is supposed to be a good little slave and basically let the prince she is gifted to rape her and obviously our heroine doesn’t want to do that so as punishment she gets thrown into a cage and lowered into a prison in a mountain filled with all kinds of beast wanting to get a piece of her in the way of rape. I mean it’s a prison filled with alien men who haven’t seen sunlight in decades, what did we expect right?
In walks our hero and wow he’s not bad he’s strong silent kinda grumpy, a little to human for my tastes but he tries not to pay to much attention to the heroine that is until Harper gets free of her cage and monsters of all sorts try to grab her and RAPE her, so basically she spends the entire first 30% of the book trying to avoid getting raped. First avoiding getting raped by the prince and now avoiding getting raped by a werewolf alien amongst other aliens in the prison.
She manages to escape through a crevice in the wall of the mountain prison and goes deeper into the mountain where she shackles up with a tribe of cute armadillo people that keep her safe and feed her and keep her clean and as the reader u can finally take a small breath of relief as can the heroine that she doesn’t have to worry about getting her hair ripped out or raped or the only things she has getting stolen every time she closes her eyes. Great right? WRONG!
In walks the hero who caveman style picks her up throws her over his shoulder and brings her right back to the hell that is the rest of the prison and men that want to rape her…. For a mate that’s supposed to want u safe bringing her back to the people that want to rape her seems idiotic.
Anyway the hero is now in his cell with the heroine and realizes that if he doesn’t “claim her” the other prisoners will try to take her and also rape her come the next time the cells are open. So the hero proceeds to tie the heroine to his bed and RAPE her while she’s kicking and screaming no Infront of the entire prison while they laugh cheer and throw out suggestions on how to rape her more…🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ why? Just why? I mean I get the hole non con thing but this was just not it, there was no build up for the characters getting together, the first time they touch outside of the cage was the hero going down on her Infront of the entire armadillo clan people and I was just rolling my eyes the hole time, like u were almost raped multiple times, u had bugs all over you people ripped ur hair out the prisoners constantly want to rape you like maybe don’t throw urself at the first prisoner that comes along like at this point they hadn’t even had a conversation before the hero was going down on her 🙄🤷♀️
what made it even worse was the heroine was fine with the rape from the hero Infront of the ENTIRE prison like she wasn’t jumping for joy but she just cuddled him to sleep after words 🙄 going as far to say and I quote “I’ll fuck you, I’ll fuck you with a smile on my face as long as you don’t pass me around” like girl what ???? That’s ur standard?????ur supposed to be a bad ass he raped u be fucking mad at him or something!!! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🙄🙄 and to top it off the heroine makes it clear in the beginning that she wasn’t going to blow one of the prisoners for food or have sex with the prisoners for favours but here comes the hero and she’s just like ya ok I guess I’ll fuck u for protection…. GIRL WHAT?! Have some dignity, I mean she even has “fighting skills” atleast try to make it on ur own ffs 🤦♀️
This rape(but not really rape) scene was one of those scenes where the rape was ok because she found the hero attractive, I mean it was literally rape she was kicking and screaming and said no multiple times and then it happened and the hero had the audacity to laugh in her face about it…. And the heroine was just like 🤷♀️ could be worse. Like WHAT?! 🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ It just wasn’t a hot scene IMO with all the nasty prison on lookers shouting and hollering while the heroine was getting raped but ended up liking it…? Like she has been trying to avoid rape since she was taken and here’s our hero the guy we are supposed to root for the first one to actually succeed, it just really took the wind out of my sails. I could have over looked the non con/rape if the heroine had reacted accordingly like she’s supposed to be this bad ass take no shit heroine and then she lets him get away with raping her without being mad? Even a little? And the hero straight up admits he forced her and then laughs at her and our heroine is just like well he is really attractive 🤷♀️ It just didn’t suit her character well at all and I was so disappointed in her. Not to mention all this happened 20-25% in like the characters have already gotten together there’s no build up to look forward to anymore, it was way to insta lovey for how long the book is (and bitch it’s long, just under 500 pages, way to long to be an insta love story) Anyway after the characters got together I found myself not caring about them or their relationship cuz there is now nothing to build towards so I thought it best to just move on and avoid waisting anymore time on something that I’m positive won’t keep my interest. It’s really sad because of the 30 % that I actually read I really did enjoy and I was so looking forward to watching the hero protect her and watch them fall for each other but as soon as the rape (but not really rape cuz he’s hot) scene happened I just lost respect for both main characters, I thought the hero was better then that and I thought the heroine was stronger than just accepting it for what it wAs.
So in the end I decided 2 stars would suit this best for me as I really did enjoy everything that I read up until the dreaded scene, if there’s one way to ruin a great book imo its to add the “it’s ok cuz he’s hot” trope. 😔 because gurrrl it never is 😂 despite this negative review I am looking forward to reading something else by this author as her writing was great and easy to get into unfortunately this storyline just wasn’t for me 🤗🤗
As much as I enjoyed this alien prisoner planet book, it felt a little flat to me. It had great world building & characters, but I was bored. It didn’t have that something that makes me rush to the next book.
I’ve read several of the “alien prison” books. (like Hold & Trapped) They're typically shortish sci-smut reads. Nameless Fate is different because it has a pretty fleshed-out interesting storyline. My issue was with the delivery. The bones are great, but rather from going in a straight line from start to finish…it takes the scenic route. For me, this made the almost 500 pages feel like 800.
I’d assume if choosing this most readers would know this genre comes with some possible triggers. Alien alphas are almost always (Nameless included) OTT protective, which plays out as bossy/overbearing/etc. Unlike the other alien prison books I’ve read, Harper doesn't actively seek out Nameless’s protection and enter the sex for protection agreement. (she just puts herself into situations where she needs rescued repeatedly) So there’s a dub-con/BBS situation. Basically, she says nope, and he holds her down seducing her until she gets with the program. (they are fated mates so she thinks he’s super-hot) She doesn’t refer to it as rape, and is down for all the following sexytime. There’s also a collar/leash he makes her wear. At this point they can’t really communicate (he understands her/she doesn’t him) but it’s explained away as all for her protection. She needs to have his scent, and the collar shows ownership (and keeps her close) he puts it on her after she’s snatched again and he has to fight off a shit-ton of inmates to get her back. (everyone thinks Harper smells yummy) This is pretty standard stuff within the genre, but in case you stumbled into this…heads up.
Nameless/Solis/Shadow is a well-developed (round) character. His personality has many layers, and we’re provided a pretty informative backstory through flashbacks and character meets. It’s done so well, that you’ll figure out the “big reveal” way before it happens. (at 50%)
Harper/Pink Pearl is feisty, spunky, etc. We don’t get as much from her, but we don’t really need her history either. Initially, I liked her. She has a mouth on her, but maintained calm with everything thrown at her. But, then she morphed into that over-played “tough” h character type who bosses everyone around… because she knows best. Or, makes stupid decisions to put her in danger… because she’s strong and brave, but pretty much makes others get hurt saving her.
As far as the writing… The world building it a little shaky. I was a smidge confused on the planet (Torvis) set-up and the ruler’s (main antagonist) role. Was he a king, did he govern the entire planet because his guard/enforcers only seem to be around the capital city? They "feel" almost medieval, but have space travel. Also, the ruling family appears to be human, but all the other characters are some sort of animal person. (gorilla, wolf, elephant, lizard, armadillo) These groups live in their own pack/clans with their own leaders, so I was unsure how it all tied together. There’s also not many physical descriptions, so you really have to make up your own visuals. For instance, Nameless is described as Shemar Moore… Harper small and curvy… and the animal people are described as that, wolf man is hairy, lizard man is scaly, elephant man has a big nose, etc. The writing is not bad, but it is made up of a lot of smaller sentences (especially the beginning) that flow Harper...this and Harper… that and Nameless… this and Nameless… that. For a POR, there’re 2271 Harper and 1890 Nameless. There’s also a fair amount of filler, like chapters taken up with shopping or other mundane things.
Bottom Line- I don’t want my rating to discourage anyone who thinks this sounds interesting. As I said, the bones are good and there’s a plot. It’s no secret that I’m an impatient reader with a low tolerance level for filler fluff, and 500 is too long for a smut read, but more patient readers might find it acceptable. (last 20% was very good) It’s free to read with KU.
