Jennifer Bene is a USA Today bestselling author of dangerously sexy and deviously dark romance. From BDSM, to Suspense, Dark Romance, and Thrillers—she writes it all. Always delivering a twisty, spine-tingling journey with the promise of a happily-ever-after.
This is a much 'lighter' read than Ms Bene is often known for, but it is still one read hot, well written and captivating story. Maddie knows there is a big story to be found at Runway, the new, hot nightclub. If she can get the story she can get her dream job. However what Maddie discovers is way beyond her wildest imaginings. Thomas doesn't realise Maddie is a total newbie to the world of BDSM, and she can't tell him without also having to reveal her other lies. And we all know that when there are lies there's bound to be heartbreak.
The story is really well written - I loved how even the fact that she'd gotten into the secret club led to the security measures being reviewed. It's one very steamy story, although only for those who enjoy BDSM reads and the various 'pleasures' a sub can expect when playing at a club with an experienced Dom. The author does a fantastic job of ensuring that the whole book is safe, sane and consensual, even when Maddie doesn't know what she is letting herself in for.
I was totally caught up both by the plot and the characters. Maddie and Thomas are so 'real' they seem to step right off the page. Their heat and chemistry almost melted my kindle, and makes this a NSFW read! I felt their emotion, and when their was the inevitable fall out from Maddie's lies/secrets my heart broke along with theirs. What really makes this book stand out is the story OUTSIDE of their relationship. We really get to know the characters as people, to see their lives, including where they work, and to meet their friends. This is so much more than just a 'dirty' read.
This was a one-sit reading - even if that meant I didn't finish it until the early hours of the morning when I really should have been asleep in bed. This is one of the best BDSM romances I have read, with the perfect blend of good characters, believable kink, excellent writing and good story line.
Exposed is the perfect last story of this delicious boxset. It shows how important security is for BDSM clubs. And,more importantly,it shows that honesty is key. As well as the fact that a Dom should trust his instincts when he feels something is wrong.....
Maddie really wants to work for a real newspaper,it has been her dream job for so long.... But the only way the Washington Post will hire her,is when she gives them a great story. The new club,Runway, has a mystery attached, and she’s determined to find out what it is. It takes forever though, and just when she’s ready to give up,she finds the way in. There’s an entrance to a hidden part, and when she tries to bluff her way in,she gets help...
Thomas Hathaway is very happy his old friend Jaxson and his partners started Black Light. It gives him a way to endulge in his kink without the threat of being exposed. Finding a new sub fibbing in an attempt to get in,on her own no less, intrigues him and he promises to take care of her punishment for her obvious lie. She may have a strange reaction to what goes on inside the club, and maybe she should have at least one limit, but she responds so beautifully to what he does.... He finds himself liking her,and even thinking of her afterwards. It’s a good thing he has her number.
Never in her wildest dreams did Maddie expect a BDSM club lurking behind Runway. And she never even thought she’d enjoy what Thomas did that first night. But she did.....a lot,and she’s clearly in over her head. Because, what is wisdom....explore what she and Thomas clearly have? Or go for the story? There are a lot of famous people playing in Black Light.... The more time she spends with Thomas, the more she feels it’s wrong to write the story. She decides to cancel the entire thing,to hell with the damn job. But how to come clean? To tell him the truth?
As it goes with lies, they have a way of coming out into the open, and everything blows up in her face. Thomas is furious, rightfully so,and he won’t give her a chance to explain, leaving her in tears. He warns Jaxson what’s going on,giving him a chance to do damage control.
It took me a while to like Maddie,i’ll be honest. Lying is something i don’t condone. Not for something like that. But getting to know her a little more, seeing the feelings she clearly had for Thomas,ánd her feelings of guilt, made me change my mind. In the end,i found myself hoping he’d find it in himself to forgive her.....
Madeline O'Neill graduated from Penn State with her Journalist degree, Maddie moved to DC in hopes to make a difference and work for the Washington Post, her dream job. However what she got was a small coupon paper editing ads for correction so we can say Maddie felt like she was at a dead end job going no where fast. That is until she made some connections and met Antoine from the Washington Post. He told her he had a position available for her if she could prove herself and bring a really juicy story. So here Maddie was at club Runway looking for her needle in a haystack. When Maddie notice really elite guest pulling up in their cars and disappearing. Where were these guest going? Maddie was sleep deprive and almost out of option really but really wanting to work for a real newspaper, it has been her dream job for so long.... Then bingo her break finally comes, she sees and entrance to a hidden part, from a elite guest and when she tries to bluff her way in and is saved by the newcomer, the most sexy good looking, person she had ever seen. The intensity in his hazel eyes made the rest of the room fall away.
Thomas Hathaway showed up a Black Light right on time, he sees the most beautify fiery red head. He asked Maddie was she just curious or did she want to play? Thomas is an old friend Jaxson and is the name Maddie dropped stating she was a guest of. Which is Thomas was paying attention that would have been Maddie's first lie, however Thomas was too interested in Maddie and her flirtation to wanting to play. Not realizing his safe kink club was in threat of being exposed.
What Maddie didn't realize the Illegal Gambling she believe she was about to expose was an actual sex club. The next words out of Thomas mouth was "I'd love to play with you, its not an obligation." Maddie thought Thomas was really serious about his gambling and she actual did play poker before. But when Thomas open the door for Maddie, Maddie was stunned and knew she made an error. What have she gotten herself into. Maddie thought she hit the jackpot Jaxson Davidson & Chase Cartwright started this BDSM sex club and at that moment she knew she had the job at the Washington Post. All she had to do is pay attention to the guest and note everything down. However Thomas Hathaway was a little distracting, his Dom personality came out to play. The one thing Maddie found out quickly was she wanted to play with Thomas and found the Sub in her quickly. One thing Thomas promise was when a sub is punished/corrected forgiveness was immediate. Maddie wanted the punishment because she thought she deserved it because of the lie she was constantly saying according to Thomas a Dom/sub relationship was built on Honesty...
The more time she spends with Thomas she started to regret the decision of writing the story. Because she actually love the life style, and love spending time with Thomas and being his. But more time that went on it was harder and harder to tell the truth. Maddie was living a lie, but felt like it was real. How can she keep Thomas without breaking his heart. As thing start to fall into place Maddie received excellent news and decide to bail on the story with Washington Post. However Antoine wasn't giving up he wants the story and gives Maddie a job offer. Will Maddie give up on her dream job or keep the man she falling for? Better yet will Thomas find out the truth and once he finds out Maddie was using him and their time was all lies what will Thomas do? Thomas don't believe her lies and starts to walk away for good. That is when Maddie blurted out punish me until you believe me... How much punishment will a sub take before her Dom forgives her?Confession is good for the soul... Loved this book, first time read from this author and I thought it was excellent.

This book was just the sexy pick-me-up that I needed:)
Fiesty, red-headed Maddie O'Neill will stop at nothing to achieve her dream of becoming a reporter for The Washington Post. All she needs is her first great story and the job is hers. When she begins to investigate the rich and powerful people of D.C spending their nights at the hottest new club, Runway, she thinks she may have found her break. There's a story here she just has to find it. But what she never expects to find is the dark, secretive and oh so seductive BDSM club located beneath Runway.
Welcome to the Black Light Club. A members only club for the rich and elite upper-class who have a penchant for a certain kind of kink that may not be accepted in their everyday lives. When Maddie stumbles upon this secret world, and unexpectedly gains passage, her life and what she thinks she wants drastically changes.
This book is sexy and fun and the characters are likable and genuine, not what you would expect from an erotic romance. I would highly recommend this book and even though it's book 2 it can be read as a standalone.
Time to go back to everyone's favorite club, Blacklight. An exclusive BDSM club meets a reporter who just knows that something is up with it. Maddie has to dig because she sees celebs going into Runway but they aren't in the club, so where do they go? By accident, Maddie finds out and meets Thomas. Their relationship goes through some bumps and turns, but they end up with their HEA.
This one was way better than the first two in the series. I wasn't a fan of the plot if you will. It's a little unbelievable how these relationships start. And for her not being submissive or knowing anything about BDSM, it was hard to believe how easily she did it. I felt like her lie just went too far in the book. I liked Thomas though. There was something about him.
Either way, coming from the last two books that I absolutely hated, this was a good book.
Maddie is a copy editor for a free ad paper. She is looking for a unique story that will catapult her journalism career into a major newspaper.
Madeline’s sneaky entrance into the hidden Black Light Runway, just tickled my mind. She met Thomas as she tried to enter the club. He asked her if she would like to play, and she replied, “Yes.” She had no idea what she was volunteering for. Maddie thought she was delving into a gamboling den, instead she discovered a secret BDSM sex club. OH MY!!! What a discovery!
This story was amazing. It held my interest from start to finish and I recommend it highly.
Maddie knows that there was always at least one of three things at play when it came to Washington, DC: power, money or sex. Her reporter skills are peaked as to which illegal activities she will expose as she continues to do her research. She gains entrance to a curtained off VIP area. An underground BDSM club is revealed. Thomas greets her and pays her guest fee. She admits to him that she is curious and wants to play.
"He was like some white knight, no, a dark knight. The kind of knight that would rescue a princess and do a hell of a lot more than kiss her when he found her-and for the first time in her life she definitely wanted to be the princess in the story."
An intriguing, sexy, suspenseful story with off the charts chemistry between the two main characters. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I've read almost all of Ms. Bene's stories and have loved them all. You will not be disappointed in this one.
This is one of those stories that I thought I had written a review for, and recently discovered I was mistaken. The only reason I can give is that I was in such a hurry to get to the next book I forgot. I love this series, I love everything I've read by Jennifer Bene, and the story of Maddie and Thomas was another winner. Maddie is a character who caught my interest from the very beginning, and the idea of going into a BDSM Club under false pretenses was almost humorous in a way. The humor died quickly after she meets Thomas and their instant connection set my blood on fire. This is a story that is full of sexy scenes and enough of an emotional roller coaster to keep you on your toes. It's not a very long read, but it isn't rushed or lacking in anyway. The story will grab your attention and keep you glued to your kindle from beginning to end.
Maddie sneaks and lies herself into Black Light BDSM club with the unknown help of dominant, congressman Thomas. Maddie is trying to get a big story and expose to snag a job with the Washington Post as a journalist. This leads to a very exciting introduction of innocent Maddie to the role of a submissive with an unknown masochistic streak. When her motives are discovered she and Thomas pay a very painful price as they try, with the help of some smart friends to find their way back to each other and learn some lessons of trust and forgiveness. I adored this story! Of course I can honestly say that about every Black Light book I've read so far.
What a great storyline! Jennifer Bene wove a tale that immediately sucked me in and had my heart and emotions in the back of my throat throughout the entire telling. The chemistry between Maddie and Thomas was just so intense and the scenes so HOT there as no way to read this and not be pulled into it and, of course, I just love that Jaxson and Chase were pulled into this as well! *sigh* The more of these Black Light books I read, the more I fall in love with the entire world each of these authors have built. It's just glorious.
I give it a 3.5 stars. The 3rd in the series involving Emma, Chase and Jaxson and the second in the Black Light series. It was a totally predictable story. Funny in some places, sad in others but totally predictable. The sex was a little hard core for me. She went through a lot to prove she really loved him. An HEA however.
I'm reading these books so fast that I can't believe how much I can't put them down once I'm in them today I was so into the book that I jumped when someone came into the room that's how into the book you can get book free from BDSM romance for my honest opinion and review
I seriously adore this series - granted, I've read the order a bit backwards as I've read most of the others before managing to get my hands on Exposed. Jennifer Bene has offered up an astounding addition to the Black Light world in the form of Thomas and Maddie, and an intriguing story line which sucks characters and readers into the sexy BDSM world with little effort. The story line has a lot of little twists and quirks, with some exceptional sex scenes which build the bond between innocent submissive and experienced Dom in exciting ways. And when things take a turn for the worst (no spoilers), the effect it has on both characters made my heart ache for both of them. Maddie's interaction with the owners of Black Light tugged at the heart strings - she was so repentant and yet broken, and Thomas...well, Thomas's anger was hard to read and yet so understandable. The final scene at the club toward the end of the book was just phenomenal and one of my favourites from this series. I highly recommend this book and this series to anyone, and can't wait to see what further talent Black Light will employ in the future.
My first exposure to these authors was in book 3 of the Black Light series and it started me down the rabbit hole wanting to read everything these authors produce. Jennifer Bene does not disappoint. I loved the premise of the story. *spoiler alert* It's never ever a good idea to go into a scene OR relationship on the premise of a big ole whopping lie. There will be punishment. *grins*
The story is well-crafted. It flows well. We get enough background on both Maddie and Thomas to appreciate who they are and we're also given some tidbits of Jaxson, Chase and Spencer. Mmmm... The lightening chemistry between Maddie and Thomas is off the charts and their scenes together had me slowing down to savor the delicious moments that Ms. Bene can create. This story will leave you warm and tingly in all the right places.
*Many thanks to the author's team for the copy of the story. I might have been incredibly late to bed and very tired the next morning.
This is the second book in the terrific Black Light series and I go in the mood to re-read it so I did. It has been a while since I first read it so it was almost like reading it for the first time and I loved it. After the first two books I went on and read 13 or so more books in the series as I think that they are all just great. This particular story involves someone who wants at first to get a story about Black Light and there is a nice amount of spicy BDSM action and it has a terrific HEA at the end. You are sure to love it.
I do so love these stories..... This one explores what happens when a too curious, too eager, journalist discovers that the high profile politicos and A-listers that are entering a hot, new dance club are never seen on the inside. Madeline O'Neil, journalist, is eager for her big break. But is a job with a major newspaper worth the cost? Join Maddie as she discovers a side of herself (and club Runway) she never knew existed.
Maddie has a career making opportunity which takes her to Black Light Club. She and Thomas have a fiery connection. This was an ultra sexy story full of secrets, desires, and the discovery of feelings and hopes brought to the surface and exposed. Fantastic addition to this series!
A great story. Very well written. Maddie was so focused on getting a story she forgot when you lie it will come back to haunt you which it did, but true love will always win out and having great friends to help is great. Enjoy with wonderful story.
I absolutely adored Thomas and Maddie’s story. Their journey is intense and steamy. Lies and love. I didn’t want to put it down for any reason once I started. If you’ve not started this amazing series I highly recommend it!
This book is just what I needed. Lots of action, fantastic storyline and great characters. I love the dynamic of the relationship. Excellent narration from Kai and Wen. Highly recommend.
Black Light Exposed: Black Light Series, Book 2 By: Jennifer Bene Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
This is my first Jennifer Bene book and it will not be my last! The story grabbed me right in and captivated my mind until the very end. The storylines and characters are interesting and well developed. It starts out with Maddie, with ambitions to further her career in journalism, she is snooping for that story that will get her foot in the door to work for the #1 paper in D.C. She scopes out Runway, the new “it” new club in DC, she is working on a hunch that there is more going on there that meets the eye. Not sure what it could be, possibly gambling. Finally getting a break and past a secret entry she stumbles in but has a trouble getting past security. In comes Thomas Hathaway to her rescue, he agrees to have her as his guest. Upon entering she is shocked to find out it is a BDSM club, private and members only. She recognizes some of the guests who are well known politicians. So she has hit the jackpot for a story. What she does not plan on is how she feels when she is with Thomas, how he makes her feel. I loved the chemistry between the two leads, also liked the secondary characters as well. I really enjoyed this story, how Maddie came in to her own as she learned new things about herself and what she really wanted. Thomas was a sweetheart, a bit stubborn towards the end but glad he finally got past his stubbornness. Jennifer Bene, thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to checking out more of your work.
I listened to the Audible edition, narrated by the talented Kai Kennicott and Wenn Ross. They give bring the characters to life, give then their own voice & personality with lots of heart. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for another great listen🎧
—>>> Looking for her Big Break Story, Maddie O’Brien stumbles upon information which could shake the front pages of the Wall Street Journal, EXACTLY where she is determined to be. Fiercely determined to prove herself at all costs, Maddie somehow breaches the mulitlayered security measures in place and gets herself invited by a devastatingly sexy man into what turns out to be the Black Light BDSM club, one mystery she was intuitive enough to follow up on and desperate to crack in order to get a front page story in hopes of earning a coveted journalist position.
Not satisfied working as a simple copy editor at a local coupon paper, will Maddie go for the gold and chose to let what they have together stand in the way of the very thing she has wanted for herself, something literally at her very fingertips, when she made the move to Washington, DC? If so, the truth will have colossal consequences for Thomas and all high-profile elite who frequent the club. “It’s all about the choices we make.” The chemistry between Congressman Thomas Hathaway and Maggie is comparable to an exposed live wire, intense and sizzling in its depth. He alone is trusted to take Maddie to a place she experiences for the first time: “The dark promise of more, of oblivion, if only she could hold on.” I loved this story as well as the input from secondary characters who wholly support Maddie and Thomas.
Maddie O'Neill always wanted to be a reporter but has spent the last two years in Washington DC working on a daily coupon paper. If she can get a great story she can get a job as a reporter at The Washington Post. Maddie spends her nights inside Runway looking at why the elite are showing up at the hottest new club in the city. Then she stumbles into a secret BDSM club called Black Light under the floors and into the arms of Thomas Hathaway who is a gorgeous dominant who is more than willing to take Maddie on as his submissive. Maddie finds herself caught in a web of lies with Thomas who is the hottest congressman in the House as she starts to realise that she is going to have to make a choice - follow her dreams or her heart.
This was definitely an emotive story as we had Maddie struggling to find a big story to follow her dreams to be a reporter mixed into the story of her meeting Thomas and the way they discovered that she was a submissive and also a masochist who really enjoyed pain. When she made the right decision and decided to follow her heart the club owner knew exactly what to do to fix everything between Maddie and Thomas and I will admit to crying at times as they fell apart and then worked through the lies and reconciliation. Easy to read and feel the thoughts and emotions of the characters. Contains mature content of a BDSM nature involving whips and canes.
Jennifer Bene gives a a great romantic story with conflict, sexy scenes, and intense moments!
Maddie is aspiring journalist looking for a story to give her her big break. She stumbles into a story at Runway and like a dog with a bone she can't let it go. When she finally gets her chance to get her big break in the story she runs into a handsome Congressman who is willing to show her what Black Light Club is all about. Maddie may not be prepared for what she finds. Will she be able to delivery on her story
Thomas is a Congressman who stumbles into Maddie as she is trying to get into Black Light Club. He invites her in as his guest and shows her the lifestyle of BDSM. Thomas is unaware of her desire to be a journalist. This knowledge may destroy what they are building together.
I love this book! The plot keeps the story moving forward. I like that we get to see Jaxson involved in this book! Jennifer does an amazing job of making you feel the emotions of both Thomas and Maggie! Love!
