A Fistful of Fire

Rate this book
Madison is back in hot water...

Madison Fox survived her first week as California’s newest illuminant enforcer, but if her grumpy boss, Mr. Pitt, was impressed, he hasn’t told Madison. In fact, there’s a lot her boss has been closemouthed about, including the dark secret haunting his past.

But Madison’s problems are just igniting. Neighboring regions report an uncharacteristic flare-up of evil, fire-breathing salamanders blaze unchecked across the city, and Black Friday looms. Trapped doing cleanup amid mobs of holiday shoppers, Madison watches from the sidelines as dubious allies insinuate themselves in her region.

As suspicions kindle and the mysterious evil gains strength, Madison must determine who she can trust—and whose rules to follow—before her region and career go up in flames.

Sizzling with adventure and sparking with magic, A FISTFUL OF FIRE is fused with Madison Fox’s trademark blend of humor and ass-kicking action.

Life as the newest, most clueless illuminant enforcer isn’t easy, but Madison has actually made through her first week…barely. Not that she was expecting a pat on the back or anything, but just maybe her boss could do more than grunt or give her “that” look. When Mr. Pitt assigns her to “mall” duty starting Black Friday, Madison is pretty sure things couldn’t get much worse. Little did she know, her career was about to catch on fire as a flare-up of evil ignites at the mall and her “allies” are anything but encouraging as they overrun her territory and leave her out in the cold.

Fire-breathing salamanders are wreaking havoc on the holiday spirit as deep in the bowels of the mall another, far more dangerous being lurks in the darkness. Should Madison follow orders and stand back like the novice she is or should she go with her gut and prove she is worthy of being an enforcer?

Rebecca Chastain’s A FISTFUL OF FIRE is a raging inferno of action, adventure and humor and our Madison finds herself like the proverbial moth attracted to the flame and a whole boatload of trouble! If ever a character has won my heart, it’s Madison! She is witty, has a heart of gold, and is to trouble what a magnet is to metal! Madison is the employee that tries her hardest, even when she knows she is missing some key information that would make things a whole lot easier.

I just love Rebecca Chastain’s razor-sharp sense of timing and humor, along with her ability to create scenes that are taut with tension, but never without a moment of lightness when you least expect it.

Want a break from the dark urban fantasies that can get so heavy? Want a few laughs with that all the turmoil? Hang on tight for magic, mayhem and Madison!

I received a complimentary copy from Rebecca Chastain.

Although I enjoyed A Fistful of Evil I had a few issues with it, I felt that the series had huge potential though and I'm so glad I gave it a second chance. A Fistful of Fire was everything I'd hoped for and then some, this series has definitely found it's legs now and I'm really excited to see where things go from here.

Madison is still learning what being an Illuminant Enforcer is all about, she doesn't have much experience with the creatures that she might come across and still has a lot to learn about fighting evil but she's hard working and she uses her brain. There were times early on that I started to get really frustrated with her boss for keeping her so in the dark, there was obviously something major going on yet he refused to answer any of her questions and left her bumbling around having to try and figure things out on her own. There was a very good reason behind his actions though and once things started to fall into place I found myself applauding Mr Pitt for being so sneaky. Things definitely worked out for the best even if it did make for a very frustrating experience for Madison. It was interesting to get to meet some of the other Enforcers and Wardens in the surrounding area and hopefully Madison will be able to start training fully now that one particular hurdle has been cleared.

Madison is a fun character to spend time with, she's still a bit of a klutz and is always guaranteed to find any trouble in her immediate vicinity but she's also kind hearted and very warm. She makes mistakes but her heart is in the right place and it's not really her fault for going off and trying things on her own when the people who should be helping her are deliberately keeping her in the dark. I don't even mind that there is a potential love triangle here, what with the sexy vet Alex who has finally asked her out on a date and then her gorgeous co-worker Niko who definitely seems like he might be interested, we have plenty of eye candy going on and I'm not actually sure which of the two guys I want her to pick.

Of course I love Madison's feline sidekick Mr Bond but we had a couple of new additions to the series here and I absolutely loved both Val and Jamie. They both added plenty of humour and I love it when author's come up with different types of supernatural creatures in their books. This series is really coming along nicely, it's fun and light hearted but has some great characters, a lot of humour and some really interesting world building starting to develop. I'm very much looking forward to seeing where things go from here and I'll definitely be looking out for more from Rebecca Chastain in the future.

A Fistful of Fire (Madison Fox, Illuminant Enforcer #2) by Rebecca Chastain is sooo good! I absolutely loved this book!!! I loved the first one but this one even topped that. She is an enforcer, she battles evil no one can see. Of course she didn't know she had this power until like a month ago! Now she has a whole region to defend and there is a lot of baddies out there. It is funny, action packed, full of great fantasy, touch of crazy romance, and silly lust factors, and just a great read. When is the next book,..... need now.....ugh! Was given this book by the author, I had all her others, and boy am I thankful, I am not obligated to leave a review but I am not going to hold all this in!! I would POP!

(RabidReads.com)4.5/5 Stars A Fistful of Evil, the first in this series, was a fun, non-stop ride that I enjoyed immensely and I gave it 5 stars. So I was more than excited to jump back into Madison Fox’s world of fighting evil.

In the previous book, Madison was hired as an enforcer with a group that fights supernatural evils, mainly of the demonish sort. She spent her whole life previous to this not knowing that she was literally born to do this job, as she can both see people’s souls and see the evil that humans have no idea exists. She is also able to kill many of the bad creatures with a power she can push from her fingertips. Some of the creatures are a bit harder to take down so other methods are used.

Madison is entering her second week on the job. She becomes aware that the other wardens that oversee territories of the area are all trying to have her boss, Mr. Pitt (yes, his first name is Brad)thrown out of office. So they yank her off her territory and send her to the mall on Black Friday weekend to kill the little citoe’s that jump around on shoppers shoulders causing them to be mean and hateful to others around them. After spending so much time at the mall, she starts being drawn to the closed parking garage on the other side of the mall parking lot. Of course she goes to check things out and what she finds there is the catalyst for quite a bit of the action that happens throughout the rest of read. Meanwhile, her territory is becoming a center for all of the evil in this part of the state-way more evil than the norm.

As with the previous book, Madison is still a bit clueless about the supernatural world. However, where the first book had her completely in the dark about everything, now she does know what’s she up against-well mostly. When a huge threat enters her world, Madison ends up taking it home. Humor? Yes, this was where a good part of the the humor in this book happens. Romance? Still not happening, although she does have a date with the gorgeous veterinarian from the first book. The head enforcer of this area, Niko, is still my choice for her, when it comes to romance.

Madison’s life is really not her own anymore and she’s actually loving it. She went from a girly girl that had no job or savings, to a kick ass enforcer in a one week time span. This book is filled with almost non-stop action. There’s plenty of humor, although maybe not as much as in book one, and Madison really grows into her new role in life. I enjoyed her as a character as before, and all the dysfunctional wardens and enforcers that she meets along the way really add to the story. And I don’t mean dysfunctional in a humorous way! There’s a couple of new characters, Jamie and Val, that I ended up loving-and there’s nothing normal about them! And of course, Madison’s cat, Mr. Bond, was still front and center in Madison’s life. Another good thing, I didn’t figure out the mystery-always a good thing for me.

Bottom line-great read, with memorable characters, surrounded with all sorts of new supernatural types. Highly recommended to UF readers that like humor mixed with the paranormal.

This is the second in the series. It could be read as a standalone, but I do encourage reading the first book first.

Poor Madison! I get that she is a newbie, but I feel bad about how rudely everyone is treating her. Even in the paranormal world politics runs rampant. I also felt bad for Mr. Pitt the whole time. Poor guy...I'm happy to see that he really does like Madison and cares for her safety. She certainly has her dumb moments, but you can't really blame her. I would probably pull some of the same dumb things. She is new to this world and this role which people are trying to pull from under her feet. Again...poor girl.

Hilarious that this takes place on Black Friday. It proves my point about how horrible that event is. Its a day of greed, stupidity, and selfishness. It was awesome how the author incorporated this in this world. Clever, clever.

The beginning was a little slow, but it was certainly the calm before the storm. So much drama. So many baddies. And so many twists that I wasn't sure what was going to happen and who was to blame! I love it when a story keeps me on my toes. I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm certainly glad the possible love triangle is still being avoided. I adore Nicko, but Madison needs a guy like Dr. Love to keep her sane. Nicko can find someone else. Maybe Madison's friend ;D.

Honestly, I am so glad this series found me, because I was losing faith in the UF genre. The characters are interesting, the world new/different, and the story fresh and creative! Love it! I am curious to see what happens next.

In the end, I highly recommend this series. I advise reading the first one first though, because there are a lot of backstory I feel is essential. Granted, I can see this being read alone. The beginning was a little slow, but after a couple of chapters I could NOT put this down. A fun world and characters that entertain me. Too be honest, this was better then the first book which is rare! Out of five stars, I stamp this with 5.

I enjoyed book one, A FISTFUL OF EVIL, but I think A FISTFUL OF FIRE is my favorite of the two and I love when a series gets better as it grows.

Madison is still new at being an illuminate enforcer and has a lot to learn, but she is growing into the position and kicking supernatural butt. I will admit that her penchant for doing stupid things gets a little bit frustrating. There were many points throughout the book that I was yelling at her to turn around, call for backup or just listen to him and don't do it. She DOES however end up coming out at the top so I can't complain about it too much. Madison is forced to work in a different region in A FISTFUL OF FIRE and things definitely get interesting for her.

I enjoyed meeting some new characters in A FISTFUL OF EVIL. Some I really liked, some I didn't like and some I think have potential. There really isn't any romance in A FISTFUL OF FIRE and that is perfectly ok with it being an Urban Fantasy and all, BUT it was crazy frustrating that Madison had to keep postponing her date with Dr. Love. Her job is important, but I just wanted it to happen already. And what is up with Nikos? I get romantic vibes off of him, but I just can't tell what he is thinking most of the time or if Madison would be into a relationship with him. I guess only time will tell.

A FISTFUL OF FIRE was full of action and a lot of interesting circumstances. With Madison involved many things don't go how they're supposed to, but it was fun watching her in action. There is still a lot left to be done in this series and I look forward to the ride.

Every bit as fun to read as the first book, but even better for the long and windy storyline that kept me wanting to just keep reading. I loved the addition of Jamie as a character, both for the sheer entertainment value and the morality questions he brought up that made you reconsider established story facts in new ways. The ending was also completely heartwarming, I’m for sure reading book 3 :)

This felt like a tale of two books, a tortoise vs the hare with the hare winning the race. I admit to being a bit worried with the start of the book it was bit slow to develop and very much the same feel as the first book with Madison trying to fit into her job and dance around magical politics. But then we meet the Pooka (available to buy on Amazon), boy then things got interesting - and my universe expanded with potential, just the way I like it. Highly recommend to those willing to give a book a chance, which is not always like me, well worth the read.

This is the second audiobook in the Madison Fox series. The story takes place in California and deals with Illuminant Enforcers who rid the world of demonic imps, vervet, hounds, and demons. This is Madison’s second week on the job and since she is new to the enforcer world, she is just getting to know the structure of the Enforcer world. Each warden owns a territory and apparently the other wardens want Brad Pitt, her boss, thrown out of his seat.

Madison finds herself in the middle of the enforcer politics and ends up working the Black Friday weekend at the mall. Apparently Cito (little supernatural creatures naked to the human eye), are running wild at the mall causing shoppers to be angry and aggressive. The mall is overwhelmed and what Madison finds in the parking garage of the mall leads to bigger problems.

This was another great installment with plenty of action, humor and world building. Since Madison is a totally newbie to this world, we learn information as she does. As it turns out, the pay is good for a reason.

I love the supernatural creatures and Chastain did a great job of developing secondary characters. The snark, office politics and reveals concerning the overall series arc have me fully engaged. A romance is developing, but we saw no movement in this episode. But hey, it’s only Madison’s second week on the job!

Elise Arsenault narrates and has captured Madison perfectly. She does a pretty mean villain too! Her narration from tone to voices enhances the series and makes listening a pleasure. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I don't know why I keep going on these urban fantasy series that are just mediocre. I told my bookclub I need an intervention because I can't help myself. Luckily this one was better than the first installment but it still was just average. Madison still isn't the sharpest heroine in the neighborhood and I thought that the story was a bit on the long side but overall I was pleased that there seemed to be some growth, however small it was. I feel like the reason I kept reading was because I enjoyed the magic system and wanted to see what that is all about as we learn more with Madison but I still probably wouldn't press this series on to friends and family.

A Fistful of Fire
Madison Fox, Illuminant Enforcer, Book #2
By Rebecca Chastain

Review:

Madison Fox has undergone her first trial by fire; but the previous week’s events, bear no comparison to what she must face in Fistful of Fire. Rebeca Chastain’s Illuminant Enforcer must rise to new occasions in order to solve a masterfully plotted urban fantasy. Hot off the heels of Magic of the Gargoyles, Chastain’s writing has never shone more brightly than in this latest novel.

A brisk read, Fistful of Fire is what urban fantasy lovers crave most. Catchy themes, elements of pulp fiction. political alliances and a cast of characters of all manners of shapes and sizes are involved in this second book of what, at least I hope, will match The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher, in popularity. The writing is refined and well edited, not a scene appearing out of place, but oft out of the blue; it is playful, drawing the reader in and alleviating the tension with well scattered humor. The sheer pizzazz that stems from this book radiates brightly, and Chastain has truly developed a unique niche in the urban fantasy market. Re-reading the first tale isn’t required, as it is partially summed up in expository. Fistful of Fire stands nicely as an independent read, although once you’ve been bit by the vervet (it’s in the book) you’ll find it difficult to shake off; the Madison Fox books call to you like lux lucis.

Personalities galore pepper the increased landscape of this novel. From Madison Fox, the star, fumbling through her adventures, to Niko’s calmness in the face of adversity; from the different enforcers and their respective Wardens; from shapeshifting pookas, to fierce warriors of diminutive size, to fire-blazing salamanders – all are well defined and given the love of creativity as their characters emerge from the page. In fact, one of the more delightful characters was a sentient book, Valentine, who kept me giggling like the proverbial school girl (sarcastic, sentient books that have a devilish personality rank high with me – hey it’s urban fantasy). Dialogue never seems to be forced and flows naturally right down to the smallest of fairies (but don’t let them hear you call them that). Each character can be picked out from each other, and this is really where Rebecca’s talents shine. She has an ear for conversation, and it shows.

The plot and numerous subplots are retrospectively well entwined within the novel. I use the word “retrospectively” here, as just as Madison is learning, or not learning, is mirrored in the reader’s response. Information is leaked out an inkling at a time, and the reader is skillfully distracted by the ongoing sleight of hand that comes in the form of an enforcer trying desperately to live a semi-normal life. Often I found myself compulsively page turning, wondering how much more could be feasibly crammed into such a small work. It happily, passed with flying colors, much to my content. Almost everything is resolved that starts in the beginning of the adventure, is neatly tied up at the end, and knowing Rebecca Chastain, details that are “missed” will be sure to turn up in the next novel.

Overall, Fistful of Fire was a delightfully enjoyable read. Fans of Jim Butcher, Ivan Amberlake, and such, will feel quite at home within the confines of the urban fantasy setting, and its sheer power of the novel would pull in the hardiest of mystery lovers. It’s also a playful read, and one well worth it. The book should appeal to those in their teens to those far older than that. The magic of the novel spans generations, and I highly recommend it to readers of all ilk, urban fantasy aficionados, or not. It’s positively worth the read and time invested in it.

I enjoyed A Fistful of Evil, the first book in the Madison Fox, Illuminant Enforcer, series quite a bit. Madison makes for a great urban fantasy heroine. I enjoy spending time with her and Mr. Bond. A Fistful of Fire was just as good, if not better--keeping me turning pages as fast as I could, sneaking in reading moments whenever I was able (even when I wasn't supposed to). It almost felt like I was reading one of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden novel, the way events unfolded one after the other in the novel, barely giving Madison a chance to breathe. I always end those books out of breath and it was no different with this one. Madison had her hands full, that's for sure.

In A Fistful of Fire, the reader gets to know a little more about Madison's boss, Brad Pitt (not to be confused with the actor). His shady past is about to make or break him in Madison's eyes, and she has to decide whether she can trust him or not.

Author Rebecca Chastain doesn't take herself too seriously in the series as you can tell by some of the names she gives the characters and by humorous moments throughout the book, and yet there is plenty of action and tension throughout the novel. Madison's life is at stake more than once, and while she may not seem like she always knows what she is doing, she always proves to be resourceful. Perhaps she does not call for help or ask for back up when she should, but given her situation and the politics in play of her region and those nearby, the more she is able to do on her own, the better. Besides, Madison is no damsel in distress, even if she might feel like it sometimes.

I continue to be in awe of Chastain's world building and her cast of characters, both magical and otherwise. I would love to spend more time with the prajurits, to see how Jamie progresses and evolves, and dive further into the pages of Valentine (who doesn't love a story with a magical book?). I liked getting to know the additional characters as well as some old familiar ones.

I was happy to hear the author is working on a third book in the series. I cannot get enough of Madison and her friends. If you enjoy urban fantasy with a sense of humor, I highly recommend this series.

I had a lot of fun reading A Fistful of Fire. It's fast paced and filled with unique creatures, interesting characters, and a complex system of magic.

The story picks up where A Fistful of Evil left off. Yet, the author gives the reader enough information to jump into the series if he/she hasn't read the first book. I appreciated that the backstory didn't interfere with the pace. It was doled out a little at a time.

Madison is such a likable character. She's easy to sympathize with. She wants so much to be a good enforcer, please her boss, start a relationship with Dr. Love, and be a good cat mommy to Mr. Bond. Unfortunately, she keeps getting thrown into difficult situations (with little or no information) that make it nearly impossible for her to be the person she wants to be. Despite setbacks, she doesn't complain much. She just keeps trying to make everything work.

I enjoyed reading this book so much because it was a great mixture of action, danger, fantasy, and humor. Also, the descriptions were great and the scenes played in my mind like a movie.

The only complaint I have is very minor. Around 85% in the book, there was a problem with the passage of time. One minute, Madison was talking to Nico in person. A couple of lines later, he's in a whole different location calling her on the phone. It seemed impossible for him to have gotten there in the time she spoke those few lines to Jamie. This is the only thing I encountered while reading the story that threw me off. Otherwise, the book flowed wonderfully.

I definitely reading the Madison Fox, Illuminant Enforcer series if you haven't. I loved reading A Fistful of Fire, and I think other people who are tired of the basic werewolves, vampires, and dragons (and so on) would enjoy this breath of fresh air with so many different kinds of new creatures to learn about as Madison learns about them herself.

Madison Fox is a newbie enforcer who defends her assigned region from evil. She may have defeated some pretty big foes in the previous book, however she’s still new, and all kinds of things she’s never seen before are popping up.

It looks like someone is trying to discredit her boss, and make him lose his territory, but who could it be? And why? With the help of a few unlikely friends, and a handbook, Madison sets out to find the rogue.

I love how the world of fighting evil is set up like a business office. With dreaded paperwork and the boss sitting in an office while his workers sit outside his office in cubes (when they’re not out fighting evil).

And poor Madison, having to take on evil at every turn means she has to keep putting off the date she’s been dreaming of with her cat’s veterinarian, the dreamy Dr. Alex Love.

The world building here is great fun, and I like that Madison doesn’t quite know what she’s doing. She’s barely been trained (no time, too much evil out there) but despite that, rarely hesitates if it means she will eradicate the evil and/or save someone, or a bunch of someones. And of course, her lack of training makes for some funny situations.

There’s quite a bit of action, right from the beginning and the story moves along quite quickly. I like Madison. She’s quirky and fun, and really wants to prove she can do some good in the world.

Definitely recommend this series, but start with book one. A Fistful of Evil.

(Review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Madison is back, still riding high off her first demon kill. You think that would earn her some brownie points at work, but nope, she's put on mall duty the day after Thanksgiving. Worse, her assignment was to handle citos aka invisible spiders. So now she has handle crazy-ass bargain hunters and spiders......at least she had an enforcer handbook to educate her about all the creatures inhabiting her region.

Let me tell you a little about this book and why it is so wickedly awesome. It can communicate and not in just one word sentences. It gave itself a name - Val (Valentine), had an attitude, and even created a middle finger on one of its blank pages.

It also provided useful intel when her path crossed with other "beings": prajurit (fairies), giant human-size salamanders that start fires, wraith, pooka (wooly mammoth that can shift into a Great Dane and a man), and much more.

BTW: All the creatures/beings she encountered were defined in her hand-dandy talking guide aka Val (Valentine).

See what I mean.....WICKED COOL, right?

Rebecca Chastain's second book in her Illuminant Enforcer series was even better than the first. This series has been a rare treat with its vivid and unique world, characters that have very unique personalities, and where the unexpected can happen.

A Fistful of Fire picks up a few days after the last book's events ended, so the reader doesn't feel like they are missing out on anything important between books. I feel book could be read as a standalone, but would get more pleasure and understanding from it if read in order. This book like the first book is a clean read so young adults could enjoy this story.

I seriously enjoy this series. The writing is fabulous. It is vividly descriptive giving Madison's world a clear picture. Madison is the super sleuth and I love how she bungles into things. She is so real and that makes her better. She is a strong woman with a strong mind. I know who I'm rooting for her to end up with eventually. This book just makes me hunger for more in this series. I highly recommend this series and this book.

After much, much begging, I finally convinced my mom to renew our KindleUnlimited so that I could read A Fistful of Fire, I couldn't even wait 1.4 days for the author to reply to my email (she was VERY nice, that's important, ya know?).

I would be lying if I said that I haven't been stalling with this review. If I write it, it means that I really haven't the next book..that it's time to move on to the next requested book and try to pull myself out of Madison's world..And that's just not something I'm quite ready to do. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF HER DATE FAILS! Ugh, the book was over 400 pages long, but it just wasn't enough! I need more Madison and Niko! Whyyyyyyyyy?! *slowly slides onto floor and dies*

Okay, now that I'm almost done crying/dying, let's get down to business..; A Fistful of Fire started off nearly just where A Fistful of Evil left off....

A FISTFUL OF FIRE is the second Illuminant Enforcer novel, featuring Madison Fox. She’s weathered her first week and come out with her skin and lux intact. However, there are always new problems and there has been an unprecedented rise in evil in Madison’s region and the regions around hers. She’s stuck babysitting holiday shoppers cleaning up the citos which infest them; while “more experienced” enforcers are taking over her region in the name of “helping”. However new Madison is to the enforcer gig, she’s smart and resourceful which leads her to the truth. It’s good to see Madison use the resources at hand, like her new handbook (named Val), and an unexpected ally. A FISTFUL OF FIRE is a more-than-worthy successor to A FISTFUL OF EVIL and I can’t wait to see what’s in store next for Madison.

This book starts out a bit slow. Much like the first one with Madison being Madison but things pick up fast after a few chapters. Madison learn quite a lot in this book and does a lot of growing up. Personal and in her new job. She gets used to her still new surroundings much better and adjust much better than the last book, I thought. She also seemed less annoying in this book. We learn about some more new magical creatures along with Madison. We also get to meet some new people and learn new things.

Fun read

This series continues to be fun, witty and just overall enjoyable. I like the plot twists and turns. Madison continues to prove her worth as an enforcer and friend. She makes new friends and strengthens others. I keep wondering if her and Niko are ever going to hookup, or if he will be jealous of Dr. Love. Hmm, that is just a name you wonder if he can live up to. Anyways, I am really looking forward to the next book.

Love it

I really enjoyed the first of these when I fit it on sale. So I picked up this one and feel further in love with this series. Funny with a great premise.

I really, really enjoyed both of the books in this series. Even though Madison is a newbie, she has tons of potential. Loved Val and Jamie.

Holly Gumdrops on fruitcake! (Lol a Bradisim Love how he

curses so dam funny) Dam that was one hell of a book. My

goodness can these get any better? This is book two and it

is so thought out and so well-written. I could not put the book

down.

This is Madison's continuing story. I loved this installment.

It starts around thanksgiving and she has to work the mall

on of all days, it is black Friday. Now as she is new brad gets

her a new tool a book or manual rather and you are going to

love this snarky and crazy book. Wait till you meet Jamie

and Val. I'm not sure which I love more. But both make it fun.

In this book we find out what or rather who is behind all the

evil. It was a real shocker on that one. I am so ready for book

three. And at the end this one tells how to get a bonus book

of her and Dr Love. So keep an eye out for it.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you

enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book,

please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it

when you do; they value your opinions too.

Book 2 was better than book 1, especially for the fact that our female protagonist was taking her job more seriously and learning as much as she could.

She came across more than any typical new agent ever would and was able to hold her own. She bonded with a cool magical creature & has a new book friend, both are fun new characters.

The lack of romance is kinda getting to me though taking 2 books to go on a single date is annoying, if it’s just a YA book then there shouldn’t be any potential romance in the book all those extra chapters just make the book longer then it needs to be! Honestly as much as thing book was better then the first book it still felt a little to long!
