I was tickled reading this book, not because it was good but because it was hilariously bad. It turns out that Pinocchio was first written as a serial in a children's magazine and then was published as a full book. Because of this, every chapter ends on a ridiculous cliff hanger.
Clearly the story was meant to be a teaching opportunity as many characters try to warn Pinocchio time and again to be good and obey his father and go to school. However, this message is undermined by the fact that Pinocchio always ignores the advice and often the messenger gets killed in gruesome ways. When a book is 95% naughty behavior and 5% adults lecturing, what part do you think the kid remembers?
I honestly think it would be a funny read aloud though (if your kids are older and can handle violence---Pinocchio literally gets hanged at one point) because it is over the top and hilarious and the chapters are short.

Eu demorei muito para acabar Pinocchio, a primeira vez que comecei acho que foi em 2022, para alguma aula da faculdade, só que o livro nunca me pegou porque eu odiava muito o Pinocchio e adorava ver ele se foder.
Mas esse ano, eu vi a adaptação do Guilherme Del Toro para a Netflix e fiquei com vontade de ler o livro e que grande surpresa!
Acredito que esse era o momento certo para lê-lo porque eu simplesmente amei. Em alguns momentos eu fiquei feliz quando o Pinocchio ainda se fodia, porque ele era imensamente burro. Mas quando entendi a mensagem que o livro queria passar, fiquei encantada.
Pinocchio tem muitos significados, mas a mensagem que entendi do livro era que a vida é difícil, não tem como fugir. E se você for pelos caminhos mais fáceis, você pode acabar se dando mal, você pode ouvir pessoas que irão resolver sua vida, escolher a ganância, a preguiça e os falsos amigos, mas enquanto você for por esse caminho, nada dará certo.
Eu adorei que apesar dos erros do Pinocchio, sempre era dado uma segunda chance a ele. Ele sempre podia melhorar através dos erros que ele fez. E ele evolui, no final, não sendo mais uma marionete e se tornando um menino. Um pessoa com cérebro para decidir sua vida e um coração bondoso.
Acredito que esse livro fale tanto com crianças, mas também funciona com adultos, principalmente hoje em dia que temos tantos coachs com discursos prontos, influencers com suas vidas invejáveis, acredito que também tenhamos bastantes Pinocchios por aí.
A escrita do Carlo Collodi é bem gostosa, ele fala com o leitor, e eu adoro isso. O livro é leve, mas ao mesmo tempo há tantos ensinamentos.

The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi was originally written in serial form for a children’s magazine in Italy in the 1880s. Collodi had ended the series with the fifteenth chapter. But readers clamored for more, so Collodi gradually added eleven more chapters. The series was published as a single book in 1883.
The story was meant to be didactic. A poor woodcarver named Geppetto begins to carve a marionette out of a piece of wood given to him by his friend. Before the puppet is even fully carved, he starts making trouble: sticking out his tongue, calling names, pulling Geppetto’s wig off. He’s wild and self-willed and won’t listen to anyone. And, of course, he gets into various kinds of trouble. Gradually he begins to be disciplined by his hardships and turns into “a real boy.”
Parts of the story are comedic, but parts are scary. Some are darker than I’d expect in a children’s book.
Most of us are familiar with the Disney version of Pinocchio. I wonder if anyone, particularly if any children or families, read the unabridged original book today. By today’s standards it might seem a little too long and didactic. Then again, kids might enjoy reading about Pinocchio’s antics and seeing him get his comeuppance several times over. Personally, just when I was starting to get a bit tired of the story, Pinocchio began making some real advances.

This book is labeled "Junior Classics for Young Readers" and when I bought it I thought that meant that hey, this book is considered a classic but it's actually written at a level that young readers will understand so start your kids on the classics. But what it really meant was that they took the story and turned it into a young readers edition. Now, I would definitely NOT recommend this book, especially for a young reader! It's been a LONG time since I watched the Disney movie but I do not remember Pinocchio being THAT bad. In the book he's terrible! Like truly terrible. Yes, he redeems himself at the end, but wow. And there's a lot of violence I would not want a young reader exposed to. They hang him at one point. Just casually trying to kill the main character with a hanging. Do not recommend.

Used this book for prompt #21 but works for #14 and #40. I will look for a movie for read it -watch it

What a fantastic fairytale with so many discussion points for kids!!! I have read several books to my elementary aged kids and they could not get enough of this silly puppet!

September 24, 2019I wasn't sure about this at the beginning. But as I got into I really enjoyed it despite some of it's old fashion ideas but also those ideas would make great discussion topics with my family.

My kids and I read this book aloud over the course of a week or so. It is a truly great story, and much better than the other versions I've read or seen in my life.
Pinocchio could easily be turned into a truly horrific story with only a very few minor changes; it begins, for example, with a talking piece of wood that becomes Pinocchio the puppet. There is a blue-haired fairy who serves as Pinocchio's mother, and of course Geppetto is his father. There really is a talking cricket, and a cat and a fox that cause trouble. Pinocchio is a terrible person, and completely lacks personal responsibility, but that is the entire point of the book- if even a boy made of wood can shed his old ways and become a new, better person, we all have a chance at a happy and fulfilling life as the best people we can be.
This version is illustrated, and very nicely abridged. I would definitely like to read the unabridged version.

I think this book is good because it's funny and sad at the same time.I like everything about this book.But why was Pinocchio bad with with his dad.At the end I think his going to be a good guy

wow! This original story of pinocchio is much darker than the Disney version! I never realized just how naughty pinocchio was! glad he learned his lesson and became a good boy!
