The Economy As An Evolving Complex System: The Proceedings of the Evolutionary Paths of the Global Economy Workshop, Held September, 1987 in Santa Fe, New Mexico
This book proceeds from a meeting at the Santa Fe Institute where economists and physical and biological scientists came together to discuss a conceptual framework incorporating a more appropriate mathematics with a greatly strengthened capacity to deal simultaneously with multiple variables, nonlinearity, incomplete information and dynamical processes.
This book represents the lapse of hundreds of years at least from a single remark from Adam Ferguson until this conference in the 20th Century. Realization that mathematics did not and could not accurately reflect the myriads of decisions made daily by growing numbers of people between growing numbers of goods subject to an unknown number of factors including whims and uncertainties made for people of different trades getting together to discuss a way or ways forward.
In this slim volume various practitioners of different disciplines come together and discuss commonalities and differences.
The material presented is electrifying and stimulating and I highly recommend it
