A woman is missing. At the beginning you meet the kidnappers. Later on you follow school life of Ryan and Zoey. They live in a boring small town named Bakerstand and plan a camping trip for the weekend. When it's raining they take shelter in a mysterious big house in the woods. Davis and Susan seem to be a friendly elderly couple until the situation changes. Did they any harm to the missing woman? Why did they change their behavior towards the young couple? What about sin? Gripping tale full of suspense, mystery, some gory details and a nasty twist. Recommended!

Sin is about a teenage couple looking for something exciting to do over the weekend. They decide to go camping.....

Everything is going ok then it starts to rain and their tent is flooded. They are trying to figure out what to do (they had to cross a river to get to their camping spot) when they notice a light.

Ryan and Zoey come across an old house in the woods. By this point, i was eating this up. This is great horror fun as they break ever rule out there. The family that lives there welcomes them in. They seem a little weird but the couple invites them to stay the night and can leave in the morning. They'll even call them a cab. Everything will be fine. Then they sit down to eat. Papa (Dave?) gets really religions and angry at the couple because they are not. Wifey smooths things over and everyone settles down for the night.

So i thought I knew where this story was going. I did not. There's a reveal and I had to go back and listen again to make sure I heard right. From that point, I had no idea what to expect but this was such a fun ride. I listened to the audio book which was read by Joe Hempel. As always, he did a fantastic job with this fun story.

High school sweethearts, Ryan and Zoey are bored. Sick of just hanging out and watching movies. Looking for an adventure, they decide for a little camping trip in the deep woods.

Great idea! Until they get rained out and lose their cell phones and come upon a large house out in the middle of nowhere with strangely eccentric owners.

Should have stayed home and watched a movie. No shit.

I am not familiar with Patrick Reuman, so was taking a little chance with this one, but when I saw Joe Hemple was narrating it and offering up a review copy, I couldn’t resist. Plus, it was only 1-3/4 hours long, so I figured if it sucked it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. (Just f’n with you, Patrick…kind of.) I need not have worried. This was a very good short tale with a great turn or two in there as well.

The narration by Joe was evenly paced and he really set the mood for the escalating events from the very beginning.

A solid 3.5 Stars!

I received a complimentary audiobook of this title from the narrator in exchange for an honest review and this was it.

In this novella we meet Ryan and Zoey, a couple of high school kids whose friend's mom has gone missing. The school has an assembly to honor Alyssa's missing mother. After the assembly the school is dismissed and Ryan and Zoey go back to Ryan's house to decide what they are going to do over the weekend. Even with a potential killer on the loose, they decide to go camping in the woods behind Ryan's house.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. At only 80 pages long there was a lot packed in. It was well written and had enough action to keep me reading. I couldn't put it down. If it weren't for having to cook dinner I would've read it all in one sitting. It may be a quick read but it will not leave you unsatisfied. It even had a twist that I never saw coming. I actually had to read that part twice to make sure I had read it correctly.

The only thing that I would say may turn some off would be the way religion and religious views are handled. Also, it has some pretty grisly scenes and some foul language. I give this a solid 5 out of 5. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more from this author. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys horror and suspense and wants a story to get them through an afternoon.

“Sin” by Patrick Reuman. This is my first read by Patrick. A short story horror/psychological thriller that has more twist and turns than you would expect in a short story novella. Just when you think you may have this thing figured out, bam, you get thrown in another direction. I was amazed at how quickly this plot turned around and I loved it. Psychological horror is one of my favorite genres to read, and I was not disappointed with this quick read. I will be reading more of Patrick’s work in the future, and I highly recommend this little read to satisfy your appetite for a taste of the macabre that is Patrick Reuman.

Synopsis (from back cover): Ryan’s relationship is already on the brink when a woman goes missing in the small town of Bakerstand. With the whole town on high-alert, he refuses to let this dead city kill what’s left of his relationship. But, a house in the woods may hold a deadlier fate than the town ever could.

Quick read, as it is a short book. It was engaging and it left me wanting to know more about the two main characters. Hope the author follows up with more stories about these two and we get more development. Excellent early effort from a promising author!

Interesting (and unlikely) twist on couples engaging in a murder plot.

More character building is needed. I did not feel any emotional response to any of the people in the story.
Still, I think the author shows promise and I look forward to reading his future novels

Honestly I just did not vibe with this book. The dialogue between our main characters seemed disjointed and they were some of the dumbest high schoolers I've ever seen. The twist towards the end was nice and kind of saved it for me but after finishing the story I realized I just didn't care about any of the characters or what happened to them.

Ryan and Zoey decide to go on a camping trip in the woods, but when bad weather floods them out, they have to find safety. This brings them to the door of David and Susan, an older couple living in seclusion in the woods. Their helpful attitudes soon turn to something much worse. Now Ryan and Zoey are in a race for survival or are they the ones that are sadistic.

This book was a very quick, but interesting, read. I was surprised it was as good as it was in such a short book. The characters are likable and yes, CRAZY! The story was action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat. Around every corner, something comes up and I had no clue what was going to happen, so it was very mysterious.  Overall this was a very well written and descriptive horror story that told a horrifying and thrilling tale.

Review originally published at: http://www.lomeraniel.com/audiobookre...

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

Ryan and Zoey are a couple of teenage students living in a small and boring town. They need to look for new ways to have fun together so they decide to go camping. The idea may have been a good one but the disappearance of one of their school friends' mother is still lingering in town, so they go without telling the truth to their parents. By simply bad luck that night they get a pouring rain that soaks completely their tent, so they seek refuge in a house in the middle of the woods. But their hosts are not what they seem.

I have mixed feelings about this one. One one hand it is a good story, and very well executed, with a couple of unexpected twists and the right dose of horror and gore. On the other hand, the fact that Ryan and Zoey just left the tent without checking if their phones struck me as weird, because first, they were at night in an unknown location, and second, can teenagers really forget their phones behind? It is mentioned that they were probably soaked and not working but they never checked. This does not seem plausible to me.

There was another detail that I found odd, and is the way marking the way they follow. It is a modern version of Hansel and Gretel's bread crumbs. I found this strange and even stupid at first, but it really matches the rest of the book, where Ryan and Zoey, our modern Hansel and Gretel find a house with unexpected consequences.

My reason to have listened to this book is the narrator. I like Joe Hempel's work so much that it is difficult for me to skip a book that he narrated. Again, I was not disappointed. He has a special talent to transmit emotions, and I think his style works very well for horror.

Despite the mentioned details, it was a good story, with some unexpected twists that will have the listener thinking for a while after the book is finished.

Ryan and Zoey are just two average teens growing up in a town where not much happens - or are they? Looking for a little excitement, they decide to go on an overnight camping trip. When their plans go awry, they'll have all the excitement they can handle and then some!

Sin was a great horror novella, full of suspense and unexpected twists. As usual, the narration of Joe Hempel was exemplary, particularly the old woman's voice. Sin was very entertaining and my only criticism was the short length. I wanted more! I would recommend this.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.

I kept seeing this book advertising on my Facebook newsfeed. The cover kept getting my attention.

I wasnt disappointed. This is a short book but it packs alot in.

A small town with little to do...a woman missing...

Two teenagers are bored with their usual watch movies all weekend plans. They decide to camp instead. But with a possible kidnapper/murderer on the loose, it doesnt phase Ryan and Zoey. They camp and are awaken to their tent flooded. In the dark and unsure of how to get home they head towards some light which is a isolated house. Things are definitely not what they appear and the ending will get you...I wasnt expecting it.

This was an edge of your seat horror story about 2 teens that are bored with their small town life. The characters feel very real. The bored teens act like bored teens. And the people in the house are very well developed. I read this in one setting. Yes, it is a short novella, but it grabbed my attention from the very first. Then there were so many twists in the story that I had to keep reading to see what would happen next. The ending was extremely well done. I certainly recommend this to anyone that enjoys horror.

Not a moment, where I wasn't on the edge of my seat.

I absolutely was thrilled to read each line of this book! I will not give any spoilers, but I will say that if you don't read this masturbatory, your missing out on a masterpiece. Not only was it chilling, and riveting, but is was full of suspense as well. I highly recommend taking the time to read this novella, but be sure to do it with the lights on.

This story is very dark, and that's just the way I like them. No one is who they seem to be, and you'll never really know who it's safe to turn your back on. There are twists and turns throughout, and delightfully disturbing surprises. I'll offer you some sound advice: If you're ever considering going camping...don't.

Looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

Keeps you wanting more!

I gave 5 stars because once I started reading, I didn't want to stop! It was a well thought out story line that was easy to follow and it made me feel like I could see what was going on. The only hope I have is that at some point another book can take over where this one let off. It begs to continue!

A strange but entertaining short story of murder and disturbed minds. The narration in the audiobook makes the twists and surprises in the story come alive. It's seems to be a twisted case of bad guys vs bad guys and it's a toss up as to who will "win" in the end.

Fun read

Sin is a fast reading novella, I finished in a day or so. It was a little predictable for me, but I've read a LOT of books like this. Still, i did enjoy it and recommend it if you like this kind of story. I will definitely read this author again!

SIN was a quick and fascinating read!!

Creepy

Definitely has something going on, but the author is still learning the craft. Moments of the story are creepy af, but at times it's like reading something with no punctuation. It moves pretty quickly, at the coat of losing some coherency.
