This is a soldier's story, from basic training to running a marathon, from studying first aid to prison, from boxing to close protection, to the SAS and hostage rescue, to Mi6. It is a very long and progressive story over many books.
The story is full of a lot of insider knowledge of small unit tactics, and great action scenes. But editing is non-existent, with some glowing errors. For example, jaguars do not exist in Africa.
At this point I became distracted with reading rather than reviewing. I have now read the entire series and have enjoyed every one of them. If you think Wilco is dangerous in the desert then wait until you meet him in the jungle. I am aware some of the scenarios are unbelievable. But no more unbelievable than most other action novels going back to Zane Grey, Joseph Conrad, Robert Ludlum and so on. If you want a "fun" and engrossing read then this series fills that area very nicely thanks.
As a retired ex serviceman a lot of the behaviour was familiar although slightly off but in the context of the books it works well. The thinking in terms of politicos is as I and I am sure many others is very accurate, this in its self makes these very readable.
