Joan Jonker was born and bred in Liverpool. She founded the charity-run organisation Victims of Violence and she lives in Southport. She has two sons and two grandsons.
Loved this book, story is set in Liverpool; Molly Bennett and her best friend Nellie McDonough are both very strong women. Joan Jonker's writting draws you into the book from the word go and you actually feel as if you are sitting in Molly Bennett's living room with her throughout the book. Great story telling, warm, often funny and heartbreaking too. Apparently there is a follow on to this book which I plan to read shortly, just hope it is as enjoyable a read.
A nostalgic trip back to my childhood Joan Jonker captures the language, emotions and behviour of the people of Liverpool perfectly. I enjoyed this book it will appeal to people who are aquainted with the culture.
What a lovely book i have really loved meeting the Gillmoss family and their friends joining them in their every day lives.Eileen is a larger than life character who carries on her shoulders the worries of friends and family. If you have never read a Joan Jonker book i recommend you do.5*
I have read all 3 books in the series, and they have all been excellent to read, very good storylines. Once i started them it was hard to put them down.
have read all of jonas books and each one is enjoable, light hearted and funny look at life 'back then' she knows how to bring her characters to life and the adventures and tales of her characters often realy draw you in and you can get lost for hours in these books! fun and not too heavy reading. thoroughly enjoyed her books
The 3rd book featuring Mary and Eileen see's a big move for Eileen and some heartbreak but once again Joan fills the book with a good balance of drama and laughter. The ending had me beaming.Love Joans books they are just filled with nostalgia and it was like having some tea and toast on a cold rainy day coming back and reading these books.
