They were created in a lab. Feared and reviled in both the Laconian Sector and in the Galaxic Expanse for their combined empathic and telepathic abilities, the Hybrids have found a home in the Parvac Empire. Having sworn allegiance to Princess Teagan of House Probus of Parvac, the former mercenaries become her personal guard. However, Teagan must struggle to survive her own failing heart, the manipulations of Parvac’s most prominent political leaders, and fighting among the Warrior Caste. Will the exceptional abilities of her Omnes Videntes be enough to save her?
The long arc is slow to evolve in this series, and I keep coming back to the heroine being too stupid to live, but then she pulls it out - kinda. The copy editing is still pretty abysmal.
Several of the tropes that were bugging me about this series got explained although it read a bit like an author realizing she had written herself into a corner and so she tried to open it back up. Reasons for the heroine's frailty suddenly becoming a thing that apparently everyone was in on except the heroine. That sort of deus ex machina backstory bullshit.
This has been a wonderful series to read so far. It started out a bit slow in book one but has been a roller coaster since! It is an unusual but beautiful read and I have enjoyed it immensely.
No more dry recitation of clothes, crying, mating, shopping, kidnapping attempts, large family meetings and traveling,
ACTUAL conflicts with real life fighting and hurt feelings!!
So much happened in this book with only two husbands added to the bunch. Taegan has finally gained a backbone but unfortunately she's overruled by a culture of misogynist and warriors. I almost felt bad for her. All those husbands and still abducted, almost raped, mutilation and death still occur. At least she's accepting her sexuality with her harem of men. I liked the plot-twists, ally turned enemy, adopted brother turned lover yucky yucky, and establishing new markets for her family. With a emperor father, generals cousins and uncles it is surprising how much of a figurehead Taegan turned out to be. At least she tries to establish boundaries, her own identity and her individualality though it's met with overwhelming failure.
This book by far was the most eventful though the pacing was still off.
The more books I read in this series the more I fall in love with it! I seriously have devoured this series in a few short days and can't wait to read the next one. The characters and their journey are entertaining and captivating as new challenges come about that pushes them into new directions and situations. You definitely DON'T want to miss what happens in these novels because it's pure sci-fi magic and I'm 100% sure you will fall in love with this series just as much as I have.
Teagan deals with a lot of internalized misogyny, not a surprise considering the deeply misogynistic society Nordgreen writes, but I still find it utterly horrifying that Teagan is almost raped, and only one person in a room full of people who supposedly love her, speaks up to say that it isn't her fault, and she didn't encourage him. Furthermore, he isn't actually punished for his attempted rape, only for being "overly flirtatious with the princess"!
Tegan is fingering herself with the help of her husband's and extended family. Adding in another husband complicated her household and her Omnes Videntes lives. Her love for her family and friends comes through in this book. With support from all she become the princess she is ment to be. Can't wait to read the next book.
Seriously. One of my most favorite series to experience and experience it's the only word that truly seems to apply. You don't simply read these works, you live them vicariously through Teagan and her group. The story is so engaging that you finish one book only to want to start it over from the beginning. Truly amazing.
Five stars because there is so much that happens in each book and it's worth reading. It keeps my attention and I want to know what's going to happen next! I just love Zared he's my new favorite! And Thunderdrop is as awesome as ever!
We get to see Reagan really coming into her own, accepting who she is and living herself. I love the relationship she has with her friends and family. Dishwasher broken by Nathan Green i think now she is truly accepting the love everyone has for her. On to the next adventure.
Can’t remember if I reviewed but I just love this series so much. I can’t remember the amount of times I have done a re-read. Sometimes because I need a pick me up or sometimes because I miss Teagan and her crew.
This book continues to follow the life of Teagan and her husbands. She goes head to head with the Warrior Caste and their beliefs. Teagan grows even stronger in mind and body. Another great book in this series.
I am really enjoying this series and although Teagan can be a bit weepy at times I am still enjoying the storyline. Looking forward to the next in series
