From Obsidian, Book 1:

Seventeen-year-old Aspen is a skydiving, rock climbing, adrenaline junky. All her life, she’s been fascinated by the dragons who roam near her home in Yellowstone Park. Yes, Dragons. Though no human has ever gotten close enough to touch one.

Except Aspen.

While most people avoid the national parks because of the resident dragons, Aspen spends most of her free time in search of the feared and misunderstood creatures. For her, studying the dragons is a way to escape a painful past and avoid getting too close to anyone.

She’d rather track dragons in the wild and through the lens of her camera than talk to real people. But then Aspen meets a hot new guy at school, Sid King. He’s the one person she’s ever met who shares her obsession with all things dragon. But even as she feels strangely drawn to the mysterious boy, she senses he’s hiding his own set of dark and powerful secrets.

When hikers start turning up dead in the park, everyone suspects the formidable predators. Unless Aspen can prove their innocence, every one of her beloved dragons is in danger of eradication.

After Aspen and Sid uncover a sinister plot behind the brutal attacks, Aspen can no longer deny that Sid somehow knows more about the deaths than he should and the secrets they both keep threaten to rip their lives apart forever.

The Dragon Kings 5 book collection by Kimberly Loth and narrated by Angela Rysk are books I requested and the review is voluntary.
1. Obsidian- This starts out giving the overview of the characters, basic Dragon rules and hints at more dangerous ones, and interactions of the characters. Obsidian becomes the new King of all dragons when his father suddenly decides to retire early. His brother is his mentor, which means he has the job of teaching him about human life. Obsidian has to spend 10 years as a human before he is crowned. He is not to become involved with girls too. Too late! He ends up pretending to be a high school senior. Lots of interesting characters introduced.
A dragon is killing people. The girl Obsidian likes, Aspen, goes into the field to take pictures of dragons. She is putting herself in danger.
Obsidian starts breaking more rules for Aspen, his girl. Him being King does not make him above the law. 4/5
2.Aspen - This book is more intense and because more know about the binding marks on Obsidian and Aspen they must come up with a plan that keeps them alive. They come up with one but before they can finish, things go sideways! I liked this one more. Much more exciting and interesting. 5/5.
3. Valentine - This is how Aspen's sister, Hazel, meets Val while on a plane home to hunt for her missing brother. Hazel is totally opposite of her sister and has no love of dragons. She also doesn't want a commitment. But it is a long flight from Hawaii! Lots of action, tension, and intrigue going on in here. Besides trying to find what happened to their brother, there is still a man eating Dragon on the loose!
There is also the start of the Dragon war. Two black dragons have come forward. The ancients told of three black dragons to defeat the North white witch!
The ending was a nice surprise! 4/5.
4. Skye - In the book Skye, Aspen and Hazel's brother finally showing up. He was with Skye. Skye had turned colors and she had questions so she wanted to travel to find some older dragons. Rowen, the missing brother, is thought to be dead by the family. Meanwhile Skye and Rowen were not having fun and got too close for comfort to the white witch! The war is really starting to rumble! Skye and Rowen's romance is slow to come to a boil! 4/5.
5. Kings- This book is the exciting and challenging war between Dragon and witch, and dragons and humans. The aftermath of the war, who made it through, who didn't, and what happened to those who survived. A good ending to the books. 5/5

Overall- I enjoyed the world building, the great characters, and the dialogue. The plot was pretty good too. The books were all 4-5 stars.
What was a big downfall was the narration.Rowen sounded similar to one of the munchkins on The Wizard of Oz! All the female sounded the same so I just had to go by the author's clues. The child Dragon sounded like Rowen a bit so it was crazy at times. The others two men sounded the same. I have listened to this narrator before and she was very good, unsure and won't guess the problem here. The problem was not enough of an issue for me to stop just annoying at times.

I tried

I'm not sure how many books compile this set but I didn't make it past the 29% point. It's somewhere in book 2. The first one was all teenage angst. Not expected from a dragon that has seen more than 500yrs. This 500+ year old dragon somehow appears no older than a high school senior. He had some sort of @160 year relationship with another dragon but, for reasons not explained, couldn't take her as his queen. Which from the temper tantrum she threw in the beginning of book 1 I'm happy about. Although, he's a lap dog of a dragon anyways. Aspen, on the other hand fluctuates between Amazon queen, a wounded Mary Sue and TSTL. She's supposed to be strong, the only human to love dragons-and therefore roam the countryside alone to take pics of them. But she's damaged. Trigger warnings, she suffered a sexual assault in her early teens, although she was lucky enough to be unconscious during it therefore details are glossed over other than waking with bruising. She recommends counseling for her brother who suffers from near crippling anxiety but no mention of needing it herself. Even though Sid's appearance is nearly identical to her attacker's and causes her to panic. She goes from hating him, accusing him of stalking her, and then 180s and kisses him out of the blue as he describes an ideal date. Something he wheedled out of her as a dragon, and she didn't figure out his dual nature for some time. There was a movie in the 90s about a girl who took over her friend's identity and then her life. Aspen's bff is this girl. Dyes her hair Aspen's color. Gets colored contacts to have her eye color. Chases guys who like her friend relentlessly even when they try to get away from her. It's disturbing. Then there this whole sealing thing. I'm not referring to Tupperware. It has something to do with marks that appear on the 2 halves of a couple that match but have the other person's name in them. I'm not even touching on the ridiculous list that dragons have to complete in 10 years as a human. Something only royals have to do but has ridiculous things like: complete high school (they show up as seniors, so it's only a year), get a degree (they continue the rest of their lives as dragons so this makes no sense), kiss a human (but they can't have sex or mate a human, that's a no no so why do they have to kiss??), and more equally bizarre items. Also, there's magic mentioned but not seen until right before the point I gave up. The final straw on this poor reader's back was how dragons can be killed. Btw, there's a man eating dragon running loose but the council is more worried about Sid's love life than a possible hunting season on dragons due to the fall out of being on the menu. Anyways, back to why I quit. Yeah, the only way humans have figured out how to kill dragons was an accidental killing while testing nukes in the desert. Um. Sure. In this alternate reality dragons are known. They openly reside in national parks, allotted land preservations, in peace. But humans are apparently ok with the thought of nuking a national park, living with fall out and nuclear winter, all in the name of removing 1 problematic dragon. This after evidence was provided to news sources showing that dragons police themselves and remove the issues that threaten their peaceful existence and are a danger to their human allies. I have many more problems with the book, grammatical errors and typos aside (of which there are many) but those were the big ones. This reads like a soap opera designed for 16 year olds when most of the key players, especially among the dragons, are centuries old. To say I have issues with this series is an understatement. It was an interesting concept, the basics of it, but something got lost in the execution of fleshing it out.

Good story, poor formatting

Loved the stories, but couldn't stand how many formatting errors there were (especially the italics). It's turned me off from reading other works by the author.

Worth the money

The first book was written better than the remaining books. She built up the relationship between Aspen and Sid very well. Towards the end it seemed like she was in a hurry to be done with it.

My only complaint(s)? Are we didn’t see or hear more about Runa at the end. I would have liked her to have been named as the hero and I want to know how her dad and the other underground dragons are doing.
We also don’t hear anything about Aspens parents when Rowan comes back because of the war which I found weird that they were forgotten.
And then Val saved some child fire dragons back in Hawaii and I’m assuming they wouldn’t have fought in the war so there should be more than just him and the Newly hatchedfire dragons. It just seems weird that he would say they were all gone..

Hard one to say yeah or nay

I got the entire set at once on kindle. The story is good but to naive. We are talking about a whole separate race living in North America and getting into a war with humans. Nothing is realistic about the war, how the kings or queens act, anything. For a 12-13 years old it might have been enough, for older teens probably not and no for an adult. I also skipped through lots of pages, one book about 1/3 of it as it offered nothing tangible to the story that I missed by skipping. My 12 year old self would have loved this book, me now not so much. It had feel good moments and I would happily hand it to a young teen that is into dragons.

Spoilers
Ok mini rant coming on....

I sort of enjoyed the first two books in this series despite the many, many, many holes in the plot... Aspen and Sid were good together for the most part. Although Aspen's I hate you, I hate you, nope now I would die for you was enough to give you whiplash.

One second she hates him and the next she loves him without any explanation (or character development) leading to the change. Despite this and many other plot flaws I was kind of enjoying the series enough to keep reading.... UNTIL

Book 3
Ok here is the rant... Hazel (who's name was Sissy in first two books without any reference—that I remember—about her real name. This made her introduction awkward and confusing at first until the light bulb finally went on and I was LIKE OOOOHH that's Rowen and Aspen's sister NOW I get it.) anywho, she was a selfish spoiled little bitch. After supposedly falling in love with Val on the plain she goes home with another man??? and sleeps with him in the first 24 hours after she leaves the man she is supposed to be in love with??? WTF? I was willing to forgive her for this despite the numerous ways she annoyed me with her I don't do commitment BS... but when she goes off with Paul to try and have sex after finding out Val was a dragon—no she doesn't actually have sex with him, but it still shows she's spoiled and a cheating bitch—I was done and almost didn't read long enough to find out she only kissed him.

Her need to use men to get over her supposed hurt from a summer love gone wrong was fucking ridiculous. Yeah I get it, love thrown back in your face sucks but using people isn't okay. Not for men or women. Stringing them along and acting like they matter then basically treating them like crap proves she is a shit person and nothing else. I really hated her...like wanted her to die kind of hated her. When they gave this supposedly ominous prophesy that didn't make a lick of sense and said she might die, I was like good. That's fucking great. Val deserved so much better than her.

On to Book 4
I loved Rowen and Skye they were so cute but by the end of the book I was over the whole she can't love him bit. Then it was like oh here I can fix it... Not that I minded that she was able to love him but I felt like this needed to happen much sooner and maybe more organically.

Also the rampant deaths that were needless annoyed me. I get that it was a war starting but killing of whole species seems a little extreme especially since there was no build up other than a five like prediction that some random character gave mid book.

I found myself predicting shit long before it happened in this one and knew from the get go that Kington (or whatever his name was) was going to be bad likely from foreshadowing from other books. Still I liked this couple and didn't want them to die. Loved Rowen he was pure of heart and loved Skye so much. She was childish and a little confused throughout the book IMO which got a little tedious. all in all this book was more like the first and second books so I continued to read this series just because I wanted to see how the author wrapped it up...

Book 5
Read to about 60% then skipped to 85ish% because I was fucking bored... it was just too much BS the whole president ready to kill the dragons and the lame as hell prediction and the lack of sense I could make of the plot that seemed to bounce around and led me in confusing directions which never got explained...then all the fire dragons died...and all the canyon dragons, and all the arctic dragons died but hey the witch is dead. Yippie. I didn't get the way she ended everything. I didn't like that Skye and Val lost their dragons because I felt like it was a lame choice....all in all I really hated this wrap up...mostly because to me it didn't wrap anything up. It just killed off nearly everyone and left me with a bad taste in my mouth because Hazel survived...and Runa died....

uggg yeah, for me this was a 3 star or a NEPE

This was interesting especially for what I would consider young adult material. It was a definite different twist on a Dragon shifter romance. There was enough mystery and action to keep it interesting. It didn't exactly put me to sleep but I will admit that for an avid reader like myself. I could not help but see issues with the story. It might be my age. I do not know. I'm guessing that a younger audience it preteen teenager whatever would not really analyze it too much but it seemed like to me that there were spots where the author started to have a certain story arc and then just dropped off like she got sidetracked or something. There were certain parts of it that did not fit together quite well like during one of the Queens testing the fire dragons gave her the ability to supposedly carry the seed of her carrying her mate. Yet nowhere in the story doesn't mention any halfbreed human dragons and another part of the story they say something about wanting to consult or inform the main characters parents of her new status as Queen but yet there's no mention of that conversation with the parents. I personally would've liked to have witnessed the parents reaction to your 18-year-old daughter is now Queen of the Dragon shifter's. There are a number of plot holes. I won't go into because I'm not big on spoilers interviews but even with all that I do have to give the story props and being very interesting on a new twist of Dragon shifter human interaction. I think with a little bit of effort. This could have been an ongoing and possibly very entertaining series for me personally. There was quite a bit of things mentioned and left unfinished and I'm just a stickler for those sort of details you know another thing that I had trouble with this supposedly the main character is 500 years old and I'm well aware that immortals can fall in love with younger people because their morals so time in ages different and out everything but when it comes to leading his people. I find it a little strange. The 500-year-old Dragon has the mentality of a young teenager when it comes to his own people that he has to basically consult an 18-year-old human. I do appreciate that is very equality centric when it comes to the male and female dynamic. I thought for one am not very fond of the caveman chauvinistic way of things is just one of those things. It bugged me in certain spots is why is this 18-year-old human having to tell this Dragon who is supposedly well Dragon shifter who is supposedly many many many many years. Her senior to slow down to she having to come up with his strategies not saying that he shouldn't consult her. I just thought it was a little strange and they talk about the Royal or possible Royal dragons having all this training in so on and so forth. They yet when it came down the things he was sort of hiding behind the barely adult human girls skirts. It was just a pet peeve. That being said, I did very much enjoy the adventures and the concepts and even though I did find a few things that made me gnash my teeth and talk back to the computer screen like really the can, in my opinion, the author gave these characters some great of abilities and with a little more effort. This could have been more of an epic story. She didn't come up with some awesome concepts like the power-sharing between the Queens of the dragons and the abilities that she came up with for the dragons were awesome. I was just a little disappointed that though they were given all these abilities at an basically had opportunities for great epic adventure. There were several parts where they were like all while I forgot I could do that… Really? Also the books themselves had like rushed feel to them like she started to have one idea that couldn't make up her mind. So she went in several different directions with the plot in my opinion anyways. But as I said, even with all that I would definitely recommend reading it, at least once if you're fond of dragons because of your little girl who was once fond of dragons or you're still fond of dragons. It is a decent read as far as fantasy goes, there is not much sexual next to it so it will be perfectly safe in my opinion for preteens, which is more than I can say for some other so-called materials out there for that age group. On to my opinion of the narration I was not really fond of the way this narrator narrated this book. Some of her interpretations of the voices, especially the brother was annoying. She made him sound like a four-year-old kindergartner when he was supposed to be an 18-year-old boy. This is one of those instances where I believe this book would have benefited much more if they had had a male narrator to do the male voices of the main characters. This is one of these books with not only female hair heroin main characters but also hero characters that are male. I believe in this instance. This book would've been much better had they had a male person to read the mail parts as they have done with some other books I've listened to because in my opinion one of the things that made this a little bit tough to get through was not so much my issues with the story itself, but with having to listen to the narrator try her damnedest to do multiple male voices. She ended up making one of my favorite character concept of with the story sound like a four-year-old kindergartner when he was supposed to be a fully grown 18-year-old man it was, it became sort of annoying. Towards the end of the story when the character himself matured and involved, and the narrator continued to read him in that sort of voice. Also, I don't know whether it was a scripting issue or what, but there were several instances where she had reversed the genders and the names of the characters it was slightly confusing to figure out who was who and who she was talking about in certain spots. This could've been a scripting error or a miss rate I do not know, but there again. This is one of those things where I think they should sit down with their narrators and make sure that they know how to pronounce things and make sure that they have a better understanding of the script because there were more than two or three occasions as occurred. Yet even with all that I say again, I would at least recommend this as a possible wants read because it is a very interesting concept on Dragon shifter and human interactions. If you've ever been fond of dragons

Knockoff of Twilight

2.5 stars. The author is definitely talented in coming up with so much story and creating a world of humans and dragons existing together. But like most knockoffs, it’s a cheap imitation of the original (Twilight).
While entertaining, there is very little depth to the situations occurring, and sometimes big events happen so spontaneously, it caught me by surprise that something big just flew past.
My biggest annoyance: why in the ever lovin is a 500 year old dragon required to go through *high school? Stuffing 500 y/o dragons into a YA world was a hindrance, imo, to the plausibility and potential of the world and it’s characters.
I only read the first two books, and won’t be completing the series, as my interest barely held enough to finish the second.

Definitely A Page Turner

So the rating should give you a clue that I really liked this book, but I always note the things I didn't like. First, let's talk about the fact that according to Google only 2 percent of the world's population is blonde and yet Hazel is the only female lead in this book that's not blonde. Yes I looked it up because I think I got tired of 90 percent of the books I read that included any sort of romance plot or subplot being about a blonde heroine. It is worth mentioning because it's a trend that needs to change. You should be able to open a book with a love story and not basically expect to read about yet another blonde. Blonde is not the be all and end all of beauty and the literary world needs to stop behaving like it is. Seriously Lucy Lu, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, even Alyssa Milano are all gorgeous women and nobody denies that so why aren't there more female leads in romance who look like them? Or I guess I should say love stories because this one is more of an epic urban fantasy that includes clean ya/na romantic subplots. When it comes to love stories everyone except white blonde women are under represented.
Second the twists are mostly predictable. I knew who the human killer was in the first few chapters of the book. I knew who would betray them and who was going to end up one of the queens fairly early on as well. If it's supposed to be a twist it ought to be a little less obvious. It was also really obvious Aspen was her favorite character because she did a lot more of the badass stuff than anyone else.

Next formatting. While the text is clean of spelling and grammar errors, thought and thought speech are italicized which is fine, except so are the actions sentences before after and any that occur in the middle. Its distracting.

Finally a few open plot points, if Sid will live to be a thousand and no one gave Aspen the gift of longevity how is that going to work? The whole longevity part remains a question of numerous characters. Also did anyone graduate high school or college or is that somehow not important? Because to me that's a big deal that they should be going back to take care of now that the drama is over.

Overall though I read this book in one sitting and truly enjoyed it. And despite my issues I'd definitely recommend it.

I finally finished it! This box set includes all five books of the Dragon Kings series by Kimberly Loth. Dragons live among humans. What most do not know, some can shapeshift into humans. Most humans are afraid of dragons, but Aspen loves them. When she meets Sid, she doesn't know that he is Obsidian, the king of the dragons. They fall in love, but terrible things start to happen. Humans are being eaten by dragons and a devastating prophecy is about to happen. Will both humans and dragons survive?

I don't know where to start... When a box set is for sale, I can never ever say no to it. I was pretty excited to read books about dragons again, but unfortunately, I was not really hooked. After the second book I actually thought about not finishing the series. But I am someone who just can't do that. I am pretty sure, if I didn't have the box set, I would have stopped after the second book. Aspen annoyed the hell out of me. I don't know what it was, but I never clicked with her. Also, when it comes to our male protagonists, Sid, Val and Rowan, I was not hooked. Sid and Val are some hundred years old, have ton of experience and act like kids. This did not add up for me. They annoyed me and made me feel really cringy. Runa is one of my absolute favourites! She is a joy and lightens up the story whenever she appears.

Skye's and Rowan's story did interest me more than the others. I don't know what it was, but I liked it far more than the others. Also, the last book was really interesting. It was action packed and all protagonists worked together to create a better world. However, I always had the feeling that some major points were missing in the story. And this was throughout all five books. It seemed that there were some plot holes that were never filled. Some characters, who had a major role in another book, were never mentioned again after that. This always felt a bit odd. The whole story was just always missing something.

It is interesting that I was more hooked by the last two books. This usually never happens. The idea of the story is really interesting, but it was not implemented to my liking. Also, there were several grammar and writing mistakes in the book, which annoyed me a bit. In the end, I kind of enjoyed the story, but I was glad that it was finally over.

The Dragon King’s 5bk Collection

Reading the books in order makes the story flow. YA genre. Aspen Winters has always been passionate about dragons and yes they do exist because Aspen photographs them. However her twin Rowan is petrified of them and he needs medication to even leave the house. As the story unfolds more in each book, we glimpse of the conflict and fast action that must happen to solve first a mystery then fulfill a prophesy.

Obsidian is the first book and he is one of 5 royals potential on becoming the next king. But he doesn’t take it seriously because he loves Skye. But that love breaks when he meets Aspen. It ends on a cliffhanger of Aspen meeting the possible dragon killer.

The second book Aspen takes you further into the mystery of the dragon eating humans. Solve this mystery of who it could be as our characters attempt to hunt and kill this clever and sneaky predator and ends with a cliffhanger of Rowan gone missing.

The third book Valentine reveals the prophecy starting by him becoming the second King. He meets Hazel, the Twins oldest sister, on their trip back to Montana. Little do these two know there is conflict with their chemistry. Hazel is fantastic at being a detective and gleaning information to solve puzzles and mysteries and she is determined to find her brother. She just didn’t plan on falling for Val.

Book four is Skye and her story. It falls in sequence after Valentine for chronological order. We find out what happens after she leaves Sid & Aspen, what happens to Rowan from book two’s cliffhanger, and how she and Rowan build a stronger friendship and bond. Their journey is a test of strength, confession, enlightenment and character building.

The last book, five, The Dragon King’s are all together and preparing for war. Utilizing all resources, these three with their queens must ban together to stop the evil witch from killing all unallied dragons and all humans. Facing war on two fronts is not what the dragon king’s have anticipated. Determine their goal is priority as these six individuals attempt to save their entwined worlds: Dragon and Human.

Enjoyable quick read. Loads of action, drama and constant movement.

Due to this being a box set, I will be reviewing the first book only.

Aspen and her twin Rowan, grew up on the grounds of national parks- their parents are park rangers. National parks also happen to be where the dragons are located. Most humans avoid them, not Aspen. A thrill seeker till the end, she loves photographing the majestic animals. Sid is the new kid at school and he is hiding something. (Think Twilight here). Sid just found out that he the new dragon king- and he has to spend the next 10 years as a human. Being the new king, means that he and his girlfriend of hundreds of years have to break up. A dragon is killing humans- eating them- and Aspen/Sid have set out to find the murderer.

Aspen tries to be feisty and says she is a dare devil. She is also a loner with only one friend, Tori. Tori is annoying and I did not really get this relationship at all. Aspen is completely rude to Sid, and he just keeps coming back for more. Sid is supposed to be the king of dragons, and yet he acts like a lovesick child.

Both main characters seem a little emotionally dull. Aspen had a horrible event happen to her and it doesn’t really affect her. Sid just spend several centuries with another gal, and is not even a little heartbroken about not being able to be with her. The chemistry is lacking between these two.

The most interesting part is the tattoo that appeared on Aspen’s ankle. I kept reading to figure out how they played into the story. There were a lot of secondary characters that made you want to find out what happens with them. They also held my interesting. Aspen and Sid not so much.

If you like antsy teen relationships without a lot substance than this is the book for you.

It wasn’t for me but here are some reviews that praise the book.

Amanda rated this 4 out of 5 stars

Kelly rated it 5 out of 5 stars

My Rating 2 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote Dragons have a place in my heart that no boy could ever fill.

Good, good, meh, good, great!

I really love dragons, so this whole concept created by Kimberly Loth was fantastic. A whole society of dragons living openly in the world, in different clans, was great! It all starts with the an ancient prophecy that starts to come to pass. This isn't a good thing, because it means war amongst the dragons, and possibly the humans in the near future. Dragons aren't known for eating humans, but a serial killer dragon starts turning people into snacks around Yellowstone National Park. People began to start fearing dragons, and the U.S. Government is ready to annihilate them all. Sid and his Dragon Queen must stop the serial killer, and find a way to appease the state, before war is declared against all dragons. Unfortunately, the prophecy coming to pass could crush all their efforts for peace.

I really enjoyed Sid and Aspen's story. The human killer was an interesting side of the story, and I had a hard time figuring out who it was. There were several possibilities and you have to second guess who it could be. Pretty good writing there. By the third book there is no doubt about who that traitor is, but there are some obvious clues before that.

In book 3, I loved Valentine, but wasn't to crazy about Hazel. Lucky for her, she didn't have the same test as Aspen. She would've failed to be a dragon queen I think. Her fickle and loose behavior was kind of disgusting. She plays her role in the last book well though, so I'll give her character that.

In the 4th book, a new "King" is revealed, but don't want to spoil anything about that. I'll just say that Rowan was the shining star in it. Glad things worked out for that poor guy.

And finally, the last book. It was interesting how the prophecy played out. Kind of sad story, but happy ending. Overall, I really enjoyed the story as a whole. The romance is very clean, so this is a good read for 13+ and young adults.

Wow just finish reading the series and I have to say that I love it. Love the characters, have to say that this is the first books that I read about dragon and I love every single minute of it. I couldn't put the books down.

I laugh got mad with some of the characters and I cried, yes I cried on the last book still cant believe that my favorite character end it. when I first started reading this book I didn't know what I was going to expect from it. But I got more than what I was expecting, I didn't want to finish reading it, I wanted more.

Love the character of Aspen love it how passion she is with the dragon, love it how you could feel her excitement every time she was with the dragons. Love Obsidian (A.K.A.) Sid his the dragon king love it how he never gave up on conquering Aspen. Love the chemistry between them two.

Love Valentine he one of the dragon that grow up around human and he love everything about them. and he felt more in love with them when he met Hazel. Hazel felt for him but she couldn't stand the dragon but all that change it when she got to know the truth about them.

Runa oh how I want a Runa she is my favorite dragon, she is a small dragon that could talk its like you could have her as a pet, but she is no pet oh Runa is a feisty little dragon she will tell you whatever she think and wont care if she hurt ur feeling or not love her.

Skye and Rowan oh how I love them, Rowan character get to grow up in front of your eyes. Rowan was afraid of everything even to step outside the house. But once he met Skye he started to change and become more bravely, Skye was always running away from tough situation and her human feeling but with Rowan on her side she felt like she could conquer everything.

I love the series I could talk about this series for ever even though is something different than what I'm used to reading but I love it.

All in all a good set of books (SPOILERS near the end)

I read from start to finish as they were presented digitally as if one book. By the way, I feel it fair to tell you that I far exceed the target age of young adult.
Firstly I enjoyed that a dragon story was set in the real world... If only that were true {sigh}.
All in all it was a very enjoyable tale and different to any that I have read before for the above reason. I enjoyed all the characters and the interweaving stories, in spite of them being teenagers, as they seemed more grown up than in many teen books (thank god).
I loved the ever joyfull Runa the best as she was a wonderful mix of child and adult and always made me smile. I found the ending very sad (the battle in the cave). What came after that seemed more like an afterwards and I found it a little unsatisfactory (SPOILER) that the two dragons had to remain humans without powers. Although I'm glad the war ended before going full on bloodshed on all sides.
The negatives were: the Americanism in the writing, such as not being able to correctly use past tenses; the italic jumbled conversations which you couldn't follow well as punctuation, sentences and paragraphs were not used; (SPOILER) Runa's death, as it's just too wrong and sad on so many levels for me; and lastly that would three separate and unique dragons really choose their mates as all three siblings from one family, when there are just so many humans in the world?
However the pleasurable aspects far outweighed the negatives, so still worth five stars from me.

Audiobook review:
The Dragon King Series is a epic tale of good vs evil in adventurist proportions with shapeshifting dragons. A urban fantasy realm rich in vivid history details, description settings, and swirling with multifarious twists. With compelling characters that have complex personalities. Runa was my favourite supporting character. Told in multi-pov creating a euphoria effect. With multifacted characters consisting of dragons, humans and witches in a protagonist realm. The writing style of this author is unparallel in the urban fantasy genre and focuses on creating a cosmos that is organic and highly addictive. I absolutely love this beautiful narrative and escaping to this realm. A well designed series that draws you into this fantasy realm. The ending is attained with a epilogue solving the mystery and putting all the pieces together.

Narator Angela Rysk performance wasn't as smooth as it could have been. Pauses in places where there shouldn't have been and odd noises. It didn't flow through smoothly as it should have. Her ability to use multi articulation did work in her favor. However, with the numerous oodles of character's I think this series requires multiple narators to give it the best performance. I was intrigued and revel in listening to this audiobook series. As, a narator Angela Rysk exhubes the enthusiasm of urban fantasy and I would definitely listen to her again.

I read the first two. Not sure if I'm going to keep going. In the first book, I couldn't understand how a 500+ year old dragon talks like an 18 year old kid. It was an opportunity to make his character very unique, seem otherworldly. But I found myself really annoyed by his dialogue. Also, shouldn't someone that old be a bit more mature about life? He responded to some situations like a high schooler. The story is pretty good, but I was consistently distracted by his character.

With the second book, the author seems to focus on and spend a lot of time on some things that ultimately don't matter. Then, towards the end of the book, you get to this major HUGE plot changing point of the entire series. It's like only paragraphs long when it feels like that should have/could have been the entire book. It probably should have been the majority of the story in this book bc it was actually the most interesting part. The events after this huge plot point are just kind of thrown away, when it could have really helped develop the two main characters' relationship.

It seems in book three that we are going to change character perspective. Which means we will probably now find this original story more playing out in the background. I don't know bc I haven't read it, but that would be sad bc I think there is more story to tell about them. I'm not sure I want to keep going. In some ways this series seems entertaining but forgettable. I might come back to it.

5 books in 1 collection

Obsidian 4 Stars: Audiobook - an interesting take on human/dragon relationships. Major cliff hanger ending. Love the dragon politics. Bit of extra world building but it really helped understand the plot much better.

Aspen 3 Stars: Audiobook - interesting continuation of the story. More dragon politics and backstories on the different breeds. Another massive cliff hanger where you think one of the mc’s is no longer in the rest of the storyline. Glad that Aspen was able to successfully pass the tests to be the dragon queen. The death of the ice dragon will play into the coming stories and confirmed that Theo is the human eating dragon.

Valentine 4 Stars: Audiobook - such a great piece of this dragon king story. We find out who the additional kings are. Rowan and Sky are found, Val gets his girl and another queen is tested in a simpler manor. Also doesn’t end on a huge cliff hanger like the last 2.

Skye 3 starts: Audiobook - love that we got to go back and see what Skye and Rowan experienced while he was missing in the last book. Glad that Skye is able to love and bond with Rowan in the end. You can tell throughout this story the love that Skye has for Rowan. Fucking massive cliff hanger yet again.

The Kings 3 stars: Audiobook - interesting ending to this overall story thus far. Strange result of the 3 kings.

I m giving this series 3.5 stars!!!!
I enjoyed the story line and characters in this series , I just found it lacking in certain parts. Obsidian is the new dragon king and has to be a human for 10 years before he can take his throne . Aspen is an adventure seeking dragon lover. She is one of the only people who isn't afraid of the dragons , she knows they are intelligent creatures . Obsidian is drawn to Aspen the day he is to become a human and Aspen seals herself to him in dragon form . This has never happen before . All of this is great , my issues comes in here . So Obsidian was in a relationship with Skye for like 160 years and he never had sex with her or sealed to her . Dragons apparently mate for life . I just didn't find that part believable.. So this man/dragon is like 200 years old and hasn't had sex and then when he does seal himself to Aspen he still doesn't wanna have sex. I just don't feel that part of the story .
AS the book continues a dragon is eating humans which could start a war . Book 1 and 2 kept me interested , however I had a hard time reading book 3 and 4 . The author did pull me back in with book 5. This is a good series that is filled with a lot of action . If you like paranormal young adult than this series would be great for you.

I wanted to like this. I really did. I love dragons. I love dragon story lines. The issues I had with this series is that while there was a huge amount of information and storytelling it felt rushed. There are editing issues which I would pick out and formatting issues that really bothered me. Some of the dialect was really forced. I know she's writing from the perspective of teenagers but it was very much dialect that you could tell was disconnected from how teens would actually talk. Not to mention the dragons are average of 500 years old...they wouldn't talk like the human teenagers. Three stars because the story line was fun. I definitely enjoyed the first book much better than I enjoyed the other ones. This will be one that I probably will not read again though. It's like when I get a craving for a twinkie. I'll take a few bites and remember I don't like twinkies. If a writer friend had presented me with this as her unfinished work I would tell her to go back and beef up the story lines and write better dialogue. There is promise in the story I just don't feel it was executed well.

If you like this genre of book you will love these.
Clans of Dragons love openly in the USA, mainly in National Parks, Lakes, Rivers, Valleys, Oceans and in the icy region of Alaska. Each clan as a different gift, some can read thoughts, some emotions for example.
Each of the clans has a representative on The Dragon Council and is ruled over by one King. Every clan is a different colour, depending on what type of dragon they are, as in the Ice Dragons of Alaska are white, Ocean Dragons blue.
When the time comes for the King to pass on one of the Royal Dargons turn black, as only the King is a Black Dragon.
Many thousands of years ago, there was a massive Dragon War, and many dragons and numerous humans were wiped out. From this came a Prophesy which foretold the coming of Three Kings and another Dragon War.
Now to the present time and the old king has passed, Obsidian, a Royal Dragon, turns black.
From here the story gets interesting, however, I have given you the background, you need to buy the books to find out what happens. I doubt you will be disappointed.
I finished book 5 in the set last night and have now ordered the next set of five.

Book #4
Absolutely enjoyed the ingenuity portrayed in this storyline. The shock value alone surrounding the mysterious third king creates the need to read more and more of this highly entertaining storyline. Our two main characters, Skye and Rowan, made me teeter totter back and forth as to. Whether or not they actually belong together. Some resolution is found in this book, yet even more mysteries are still unresolved for future books. A great PNR read that will definitely leave you wanting more. This voluntary review is based against a copy obtained via KU.
Book #5
This epic conclusion to the dragon kings series is a definite must read. After so much tragedy and shaky alliances, the prophecy comes to its fruition and this page turner will keep you on the edge. This book will truly keep you on the rollercoaster of emotions! Dragon's and dragon loyalties are out to the test throughout these pages. An excellent read that should be enjoyed by all dragon fans! This voluntary review is based against a KU copy.

Pretty good series.

I started out the series not knowing whether or not I would actually read the entire series, but then I just kept reading and the more I read, the more invested I became. I really just wanted to see how it all ended for them and if my suspicions were correct. A lot of things were very predictable throughout the books and some things were just off the wall. The whole fight scene with the white witch was just confusing to me (I couldn’t really follow what was happening/it didn’t make sense and flow). I did end up somehow becoming more invested in characters than I thought I would be and cried at a death that I already knew was coming. I thought the whole prophecy fulfilling could have been done a little differently; it almost felt as though the author had a hard time actually making it all work out at times and just threw some stuff together to meet requirements of it. Overall, I am glad I finished the books, but I won’t be rereading this series like I do for those I really enjoy.

I did enjoy the story, but the flow of the book was a little weird at times. I’m not sure if it was because of Angela‘s performance or how the book was written. Another thing that drove me crazy was a poor use of grammar. She always used the phrase, “I’m going with.” I know they talk that way in the Midwest, but I feel a person who writes a book should use proper grammar. She also said, “I want to come with you” quite a bit, instead of “go with you.” I know it’s a little thing, but it did drive me crazy.

Some of the voices the narrator used for the characters was a little strange as well, especially Rowan’s voice. I know he was kind of nerdy in the beginning, but when he became cool she still use the nerdy voice and I could not picture him “hot.”

I wouldn’t say this was my favorite book series, but it wasn’t the worst either. It’s just not a series I would like to read again and I didn’t really care much for the characters.

The Dragon Kings is an entertaining paranormal YA romance and adventure series that should appeal to fans of dragons and books like Twilight. The series includes five books which can be read independently, but work better as a series.

There were some unanswered questions I was left with and pieces of the puzzle that didn’t quite fit when I finished the series. I also did not always like the characters, and I sometimes questioned their actions, but overall I enjoyed the books.

Recommended for teen and adult readers who enjoy YA novels. Contains violence, talk about rape, and mild sexual situations.

The narrator of the audiobooks has a pleasant voice and does a nice job. Her male voices can use some work though, and she sounds so cheerful that sometimes it makes it hard to take the darker parts of the story too seriously.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.
