When the body of a teenage boy is found beaten to death in his own bedroom, and a girl attending a party held at his house reports an attempted sexual attack the night before, the Dublin police immediately suspect both incidents are related.

But when a sweep of the crime scene throws up some truly puzzling forensic evidence, CSI Reilly Steel wonders if those initial suspicions are correct. And as the investigation deepens, and her GFU team begins to delve into the online lives of both teenage victims, even more questions are raised.

Can Reilly help the investigators discover the truth about what actually happened on the night of the party?

Or is she too distracted by personal issues, namely the visit of an old friend from the US...

Even though I have neglected to read this book for some months, I had no trouble catching up. I remembered all the parts I'd read so I finished it in two days straight!
Normally, the saga of Reilly's emotions through her pregnancy would have slowed down my need to read, but it was great how it fed into her solving the murder of a young boy and the attack on a teenage girl. As usual, the ending was a surprise, typical of the Casey Hill stories ... I loved it!

LOVE THIS SERIES!

And, if only there were another book on the series, I would be reading it rather than writing this (this review, which I am now REWRITING for the THIRD TIME because my Kindle decides, far too often to, after I have written two paragraphs, to make my review just DISAPPEAR! But, I will give it one more try, because I love these books and want to SAY so).
SO, there is nothing I like reading more than a good series, but this is the first one I have read book to book to book. Casey Hill is a born story-teller, and these are the precise stories she was born to tell. Her prose is effortless yet compelling. One can identify with all of her characters with them remaining quite singular creations. Her plots, crimes, murders, are clever and thrilling and chilling and endlessly entertaining. And, I just KNOW that there will be at least one more Reilly Steel book because Hill has left us with far too many events-to-come that she has artfully made us care quite deeply about.

If I were to express one caveat to the complete BRILLIANCE of this series, it is that it's central character, Reilly Steel, is, often, incredibly irritating, completely selfish, and determined not to budge one iota away from the person, the "character" she has decided she will be. She is obsessively self-conscious. Always watching herself to make sure her actions and reactions remain within the narrow parameters of how she has designed herself. But, there can be a fine line, or a gaping trench, between individualism and stubbornness. Between impulsive realization and reckless endangerment. Between enjoying one's own company and a cost-effective loneliness. Between sound, career-appropriate decisions and using her love of her job to push away and make threatening any form of human contact. For someone everyone seems to love, with quite o percentage of them IN love with her, Reilly Steel may be one of the least lovable characters I've ever encountered in a book.

SPOILER ALERT! Particularly after she, due to an entirely reckless encounter, she finds herself pregnant, much to her horror, anger, and eagerness to blame everyone on earth but herself. She HATES being pregnant; all it does, this "Blob" inside her, is get in the way of her work, make her clothing tighter, make it impossible to sleep and, most horrible of all; result in people TREATING her as if she is PREGNANT! How DARE they? Further, even though she doesn't like children, doesn't want one herself, is not in a relationship with "it's" father, and is furious at the thought of the eventual baby not only ruining her career, but being demanding of her attention, constantly wanting good and shelter and safety and the caring that she KNOWS she cannot give it, she NEVER ONCE considered any of the alternatives available too seeing the pregnancy through and actually HAVING this "thing that dhe, from the moment the test was positive, resented, blamed, disliked, was terrified of and furious with.

Aside from THAT, the Reilly Steel series has been an absolute delight and one of my favorite literary series. I will be hot on the lookout for the next installment!

Dublin police suspect a teenage boy beaten to death in his own bedroom and the attempted sexual assault of a girl who attended a party at the same house are related, by CSI Reilly Steel uncovers forensic evidence including social media posts that makes the crimes more complicated than what was first thought.

This murder and the assault investigation are more poignant for Riley, now in her second trimester. It’s bad enough that her keen sense of smell is amplified due to the “Bumpasauras” she’s carrying, but the problems the teens are having make her all the more worried about what her child will face and whether she has the right stuff to be a good parent and a good investigator at the same time. Reilly is also plagued by the impending visit of her baby daddy – what she thought was a one-off might be turning into something else. He wants to make a go of things, and automatically assumes she’ll just move right back to California because he can take better care of her there. But there’s that fragile relationship with Detective Chris Delaney, and her dedication to her work in Ireland that adds another layer of complications.

I love everything about this series – the writing style, the dialogue, the settings, the characters and the relationships between them, the crime, the solving of the crime … Also, there is a nice balance between mystery, character development, and romance.

This book 7 was equally as satisfying as the previous six. I cheer the relationship of Reilly and Chris. They have an equal commitment to the job and a strong sense of right and wrong, and they support each other when it counts, even when they are on the outs. The ending was a surprise, and very satisfying. Reading these stories is like visiting with friends – friends who have much more exciting lives and compelling jobs than I do, in a better location, but still friends. I saw somewhere that there are eight total works in this series, but I sure hope not. I look forward to more adventures with Reilly, her team, and Delaney.

Drivel. Again the focus is on the will they won’t they romance. It’s pathetic. The murder was background noise. I figured out who the killer was once they visited the van driver so it’s not a well written mystery / thriller. The pregnancy content of the book is painful to read. What is the point of it at all? This character is not cut out to be a mother

Another great read

Another great read in this series that draws you in as the twists and turns of the forensic team battle to find that 1 item that will help move the case along to aid the detectives following the clues from witnesses, mobile phone records and more to eventually they all combine to get closure.
The characters are like old friends and their relationships intertwine as friends and trusted colleagues away from work. But like all relationships their are flaws, miss understanding, as well as at some points alpha male tendencies race it's head. Riley trying to cope with her condition and the gear of not coping with it, and how people treat her differently now has her pushing herself harder to show she is coping. But hiding the feeling she is all alone and doesn't know how she is really going to cope.
Recommend this series a easy to read but interesting cases and developed relationships set in Dublin .

Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

End of term exams are finished and a group of teens are partying to blow off steam and celebrate, but the next morning finds one teen dead in his bedroom and another in shock following an attempted sexual assault. Are the two incidents related? If so, how?

Reilly Steele is advanced in her pregnancy, feeling miserable and questioning her ability to be a parent. This case brings those doubts closer as she fights to find out who brutally murdered Graham Hackett in his own bedroom. Is this murder related to the assault on Holly Glynn that happened less than a mile from Graham's house, the scene of the party?

As always, many twists and turns in the plot, and further developments in Reilly's relationship with Todd, father of her child, and Chris, her co-worker.

Not Their Best!

I have enjoyed all the other Casey Hill books so far but this one really lacks the same quality of writing and plotting. It was maudlin, a lackluster case to solve and quite soap opera ish in its characterizations.

Some of the writing was downright awful. E.g. "She shook her head, tears suddenly springing to her eyes as once again the fear and anxiety she'd recently been holding back, flooded forward, pushing at her heart out of the way on their way to her eyes.". (How is this an anatomically possible?)

Another example: " Can you imagine that?" she mumbled, her voice now low and tired, almost delirious." And the usual missing words like "to" and other connectors. I think perhaps the writers were in a hurry to fulfill their publishing deadline because a lot of the writing was pure drivel. Sorry to be so blunt.

Pretty much against my better judgement, I have now read all of the Reilly Steel novels. Call me trivial, but I want to know what happens to the main characters!
But - the proof reading is a disgrace. In the Kindle editions there are errors on every page that, as someone with quite a bit of experience as a proof reader, really annoy me. In one novel, Chris Delaney is called Pete and in another someone's height is described as "5'12"!! American English does not sit well with Irish detectives who are always "gotten" something or other.
The constant references to Reilly's 10 mile runs, followed by laps of the pool and endless showers are tiring to say the least.....
However, the plots are always interestingly intricate and the forensic detail fascinating. If I order the next in the series I sincerely hope the error count is nil so I can just enjoy a good read.

MIXED FEELINGS

I read every book in the series, hoping Reilly would get over herself. I liked most elements very much but I guess I'm too old to warm to a woman so uncomfortable with femininity. She was almost a cartoon character at times with her determination to be strong making her kind of pitiful. Being a strong woman has nothing to do with whether you'll let a physically stronger man carry a box for you when he offers and you're six months pregnant! Really? She's just so stupid too often......all because the author is trying to be so "progressive" with outlook and behavior it just validates the view of many that both can sound, look and be - silly.

This series is so good, you finish one, immediately download the next one, and start reading again. If you are a fan of Kathy Reichs, you must read these books. Reilly is investigating a young boy who was murdered in his home during a party. A teenage girl was assaulted on her way home from that same party. Are the two related? Meanwhile, Reilly is also trying to deal with her personal life, and that gets a lot harder when Todd decides to visit. The only problem with this book was that I went to download the next one, and I have to wait until October for the new one to come out! Can't wait!

An Okay Read

This installment of the series is an okay read. A good proofreading session would be good as the dialogue doesn't always make sense and disrupts the flow of the story. Beta readers would more than likely take care of this. As for the story the mystery and crime solving was okay. The personal issues between Reilly, Chris and her baby's father progressed somewhat with a lot still to be resolved. I really like this series but this latest volume is not up to the standards of the previous offerings. Looking forward to the next story.

Could have been better

I have read all the books in the CSI Reilly series - the first 4 back to back and found them thoroughly enjoyable. With Endgame all the character building has been made for repeat appearances, and perhaps the story lacked because of this?

However my main gripe and it runs throughout is the appalling editing; missed words in sentences spoil the flow of the story, and in most cases you need to pause re-read before continuing. I had noted it to some extent in previous books of the series but this is by far the worst.

I do hope this is resolved before the release of the next instalments, because all that said I am still interested enough in the characters to try one more in the hope the authors have come up with some fresh ideas.

Torn Between Two Lovers

This is not my favorite in the series. A teenager is murdered during an unsupervised party at his home. A female attendee is attacked and almost sexually assaulted while walking home. Pregnant Reilly is trying to figure out her future.

Juvenile is the best word for this book. Reilly and her beaus behave like not smart teenagers. The victims, witnesses and other characters connected with the mysteries are uniformly unlikable and uninteresting. Disappointing. 2.5 stars

17 year old Graham Hackett does not have a speaking roll in this book. This is because he is dead when the story starts. His parents are away and he and his brother decide to throw a party. Holly Glynn was at that party too, and she was attacked walking home from it. Luckily she was able to escape. Are the two crimes related, or is it just a coincidence? Reilly Steele is going to find out. Keep collecting the clues and you might still be surprised!

Back on Track Read It!

The authors did well with this story....I enjoyed it greatly. The writers frustrate me I am one that with CSI books want detail. .not gloss. They had been drifting they are back on track for this one. Yes still the moma drama but it worked for this novel. If you read my reviews you know I hate spoilers. I had it figured out up front. The only thing this team can do is add intrigue. Am looking to see how they do in the next book.

Can't get enough

This series is so well written,it can not wait for the next book in the series to be released. I purposely read this book slower than I normally read because I didn't want the book to end. The titles are perfectly tied together with the plot. One of the many things I like about the series is it isn't hard to follow the plot and the characters. If you are looking for a quick read, try this series

Well, I blazed through the remaining books in this series! I know there will be more and I look forward to reading more mysteries with this cast of characters. I find that, perhaps, I’m really getting used to this particular author’s writing style, which might be making the mysteries easier to figure out, but they are fun nonetheless.

Great series!!!!

Right up there with Kathy Reich's books and derivative tv series Bones! Even though fairly similar situations occur, Reilly, Chris and Kennedy stand on their own as characters. I enjoy the differences Ireland's culture and language bring. Waiting for the next one to hopefully introduce the awaited "new character". No spoilers her!

Great Series

I enjoyed reading this series. The characters were made real to me, and the scenes described almost so I was there. Except for a gap between the first and the rest, I read one right after the other because I couldn't wait to continue Reilly's story. I am anxiously waiting for Fallout.

I LOVE THIS SERIES

I read the first book in this series and couldn't put it down. I literally bought the rest of the series and stayed up all night reading them. I love the style of writing, the intrigue, trying to guess who done it and mostly, the characters. I want more of Reilly and Chris!!!

Addictive Who Dunnit

It has been a long time since I was as captivated by an author, as I am with Casey Hill! And this one is no different. I appreciate not being simply led through a story, but left to imagine the possibilities as I make my way . This will not disappoint.

Another Reilly Steel Winner!

I really enjoy following along with Reilly's life as she goes through her personal turmoils. Every case she takes on is more complicated than the last. I can't wait to see what Reilly gets herself into in the next book.

Good Story but…..

The story flowed right along like the previous books in the series with one glaring exception. The editing was SO sloppy. Missing words, extra words, misplaced or missing punctuation. It’s the little things that get you.

Twists and Turns

Reilly is dealing with her rapidly changing body and teenagers. A young man is murdered in his bedroom. Yes, he is a hormonal teen who believes the world belongs to him. Unfortunately, the many threads to the story and a few lies lead to an interesting ending.

I like the Reilly Steele books but the author needs an editor to catch the typos. There's nothing worse than having to re-read a sentence or paragraph multiple times to understand what's being said and this is frequent with this author. I just won't do it any more.
