Head Over Heels

Rate this book
Country and city, strapping and petite—these new neighbors have literally nothing in common. Are the fireworks crackling between them pure irritation—or something a whole lot hotter?

With her professional reputation in tatters—and her boss in jail—Sophie Kincaid has no choice but to move to small-town Revival, Illinois, until the dust settles, where her best friends have arranged a job and a house for her. For six months, she's pretty sure she can handle anything—even her new landlord and neighbor, Ryder Moore. A magnetic 6'4" deputy sheriff, Ryder's good looks and habit of flirting with intent to seduce are an infuriating distraction—and, to Sophie's alarm, an undeniable temptation.

Ryder knows Sophie's type—entitled city girl—and it's not one of his favorites. Add in her snarky sass and her propensity for trouble and she's not exactly his ideal tenant. But something about the curvy little...

Jennifer Dawson is the author of the popular Something New series, spicy, small town romance released with Kensington, and pens the dark and edgy contemporary romance series Undone.

Jennifer Dawson grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in psychology. She met her husband at the public library while they were studying. To this day she still maintains she was NOT checking him out. Now, over twenty years later, they’re married and living in a suburb right outside of Chicago with two awesome kids and a crazy dog.

Despite going through a light FM, poem writing phase in high school, Jennifer never grew up wanting to be a writer (she had more practical aspirations of being an international super spy). Then one day, suffering from boredom and disgruntled with a book she’d been reading, she decided to put pen to paper. The rest, as they say, is history.

These days Jennifer can be found sitting behind her computer, writing her next novel, chasing after her kids, keeping an ever watchful eye on her ever growing to-do list, and NOT checking out her husband.

Out of all the cars, why did he have to have this one? Muscle cars were her weakness. Well, that and tattoos.
Hell, everything about this man was her weakness.

City girl Sophia Kincaid is forced to move temporarily to small-town Revival after her successful job in Chicago ends in scandal. With the help of her best friends she accepts a six month PR job and rent’s a small house, hoping a few months away would make everyone forget and she can go back to the city she loves. But things get a lot more complicated when she meets her new landlord and neighbour. The too-sexy-for-his-own-good deputy sheriff is exactly the kind of sexy and bad she tries to stay away from and the more she clashes wills with him, the harder it becomes to deny the wild side she’s successfully repressed for years.

Did he not have a list of reasons to stay away from her? Was she not trouble? Did she not trigger all of his worst and baser instincts?

Ryder Moore knows the moment he sees the sassy Sophia that she’s trouble, the kind of trouble he should stay away from. He’s looking for someone he can have a relationship with and Sophia has city girl written all over her which means she won’t be staying. But the chemistry between them is explosive and every flirty and lusty encounter makes it even harder to resist the temptation of her. But when lust turns into something even more powerful, can he convince her to stay or will she choose her career over what they had found?

“It’s like he was custom designed to bring out the slut in me.”

I liked how feisty Sophie was, how much she valued her independence and her weakness for muscle cars and tattoos, however there were a few things that annoyed me about her. The games she liked to play, blowing cold on Riley while hoping he wouldn’t listen to her and still make a move, which I found tiring and then there’s her commitment issues. I usually love reading a romance where the heroine is the one with the commitment issues, seeing as it’s usually the guy who has these issues but Sophie took it too far for me. She just refused to see that they could have a future, getting upset with him when he decided to break things off because he wanted more and she just wanted to have fun. I just wanted to slap her because she was being so damn blind and hurting Rider with her actions.

He didn’t know what it was about her, but he fucking wanted her with a ferocity he didn’t quite know what to do with.

I adored big and so very hot Ryder, with his tattoos, sexy muscle car and cop uniform. And I loved how he made sure she had food to eat and even brought her coffee!! Definitely a man after my own heart. I also loved how hard he pursued her and how it didn’t take him long to realise he wanted more with her than just sex. Ryder is my kind of book-boyfriend!!

“Are you nice, Ryder?”
“When it comes to you”—he scraped his teeth against her jaw—“I’m as bad as they come.”

Despite my issues with Sophia near the end I still really enjoyed their romance, how they were exactly the other’s type but tried to deny it so vehemently. Their heated banter was like foreplay and I had so much fun watching them trying to deny their feelings but unable to stay away. I also liked that despite the inferno of chemistry that blazed between them they didn’t fall into bed instantly and the more time they spent together, the more they got to know each other, the deeper their feelings became. And the sexy times…. Yowza, it was SCORCHING!!

I’m a big fan of small town romances and this series has a great cast of characters. I especially like Charlie, the local sheriff, and I really hope he will get his own book too.

I absolutely loved the second and third books in this series and Head Over Heels is definitely another wonderfully sexy addition. A must read for all romance fans.

5 - "I think I like him..." Stars!

The fifth book in Jennifer Dawsons; Something New series gives us, dirty-sexy cop Ryder Moore and Girl-About-Town Sophie Kincaid’s story.

The one thing that always strikes me when I pick up a book by this author is how I always forget just how much I enjoy her writing. Head Over Heels was just such an entertaining read.

Her vagina had terrible taste in men and notoriously steered her wrong, which was why she’d stopped listening to it years ago…

Sophie has had to up sticks from Chicago, and pretty much leave her life behind for small town Revival, Illinois after her job and subsequently implodes due to an embezzling boss, making it pretty clear from the off to anyone who will listen, she is not staying, but more on a hiatus while the dust settles, she then fully plans to move back to Chicago and resume her old life. Two things she didn’t figure on though are her hot, sexy, dirty-talkin’, and down-right delicious neighbor…

"It’s like he was custom designed to bring out the slut in me…"

And the fact that the town, and it’s people actually start to feel more like home than where she believes her home to be does, and she basically ends up questioning everything that in the past she has thought she needs to live a happy and fulfilling life. Love especially because that has never seemed to stick in the past, but even though they get off to a rocky start, more due to her denial than anything, it is pretty obvious that they both mean more to the other than just a six-month fling.

"You might leave, but you’re sure as hell not going to forget me when you do, and we both just have to accept that."

Ryder, well what can I say, I think the author must have stepped into my head and took every attribute that I find sexy in a guy, as well as some I didn’t even realize I found sexy and put them into one awesome, hot package. Can’t lie, I spent most of the book green with envy that Sophie was getting all the action with him, because he was just deeeeeeevine!

"You’re going to be the death of me."

"You need to stop kissing me."

"Believe it or not, I’m trying..."

Loved this book, I hope the author has more in store for the series in general in the future.

"You’re a part of me now, and there’s nothing I can do about it."

I liked it. However, it is not among my favorite Dawson romances and I’m going to just say it - there were alot of shortcuts in this story which didn’t quite work for me. As a standalone, the story does just fine. Although heroes and heroines from earlier books make appearances, they don’t impact the main story so much that you need their history as well.

Now, Sophie and Ryder start off on the very wrong foot from the moment they meet. I can only guess that, because of the length of the story and the characters’ lack of history together, that there was a need to develop an antagonistic relationship quickly without a whole helluva lot of foundation. This approach didn’t quite gel for me, and even when things improved, I was still a little eye-rolley.

Now, I truly can appreciate a prickly heroine, but I need to understand the reason for that prickliness. Sophie starts off with a chip on her shoulder, making alot of assumptions and judgments, and unfortunately it just made me think she was childish and ridiculous.

However, when the focus was more on their attraction and acknowledgment that their bickering was simply sexual tension, the story picked up steam. There are plenty of moments I did enjoy, although I wished there was more of an emotional connection between them. They certainly wanted each other physically, so if you’re really into bickering/arguing between leads with loads of sexual chemistry, you may enjoy this.

I have had ups and downs with the Something New series, but for the most part it's been an enjoyable series. I had no idea the author was continuing on with the books, but I was eager to learn of Head Over Heels' existence. To be honest I couldn't remember the two main characters here from the previous books. Even after I was done reading Head Over Heels I couldn't remember them! I know I have a very poor book memory but usually I'll remember as I read the book. Anyways, back to talking about the book. This is the story of Sophie and Ryder. Sophie is caught in the middle of a scandal that she had nothing to do with, but that ultimately leaves her jobless and her reputation in Chicago destroyed. She accepts a temporary short-term job in Revival, a small town, where a couple of her best friends live. Sophie is a smart woman who possesses a lot of drive and determination. She puts all her efforts into whatever task she is responsible for, and that's a quality I admired and loved about her. After being burned by love, she is also a little reserved emotionally, and is afraid to risk her heart. Enter her landlord Ryder, a handsome bad boy who also happens to be a sheriff in town. On their first meeting, Sophie decides that even though she's wildly attracted to Ryder, she dislikes him for some unknown unexplained reason. This dislike she has for him really confused me, and actually bothered me. It felt like it was done to sort of manufacture a hate-to-love romance, and it didn't work all that well for me. So even though there were qualities I liked about Sophie, her reaction to Ryder left me annoyed. I wasn't entirely keen on Ryder either. I mean he's a typical alpha her, with not a lot of anything else going on for him. The other male characters in this series have had more defining qualities to them, so I found Ryder to be very underwhelming. The romance between the two certainly had a lot of sexual chemistry. There's no doubt that Jennifer Dawson knows her way around tension between her couples. I can't exactly pinpoint why though, but even though Sophie and Ryder had a ton of chemistry together, I wasn't feeling them 100%. Maybe it's because a lot of time is spent on the actual physical aspects of the relationship over building an emotional connection? After a while, I got real tired of hearing about their sexy shenanigans, and wanted to see them connect on a more intimate level. What I loved in Head Over Heels though was seeing all the previous couples. They are all so cute, and I loved the glimpses into their lives. Head Over Heels is a very readable book because Jennifer Dawson has such a great addicting writing style, but I'm not overly impressed by Head Over Heels.

Three and a half stars.

Sophie Kincaid's dream PR career in Chicago goes up in flames when her boss embezzles money from the firm to feed his coke habit, as a Vice-President she is tarred with the same brush and overnight her name is mud. She retreats to small town Illinois, Revival to be precise where one of her best friends has got her a job in city government assisting the town revitalisation project. Her friend has also found her a house to rent for six months. And that's where the problems begin, because the guy living next door, Ryder Moore, has bad boy written all over him and there's one thing that Sophie has learned is that bad boys are catnip for her - and it always ends badly.

Ryder moved to Revival to get away from wild and crazy girls and his new neighbour, and tenant, has wild and crazy written all over her. He knows he should stay away but there is something so very tempting about arguing with her...

Sophie is less than pleased to find out that no only is Ryder her landlord as well as her neighbour but he is also the deputy sheriff AND technically her boss on the town square grand opening project! Can't a girl catch a break?

Inevitably lust trumps logic and Sophie and Ryder enter into a no-holds barred friends-with-benefits relationship, time limited by Sophie's often expressed intention to return to Chicago after six months. Ryder is small-town through and through, there's no way he would ever want to be a big city cop.

I've see-sawed to and fro on my rating for this book. I'm a sucker for big city girl moves to small town stories and I love enemies to lovers stories but I had two issues with this book:

1) the naughty bits - it took me a while to realise what felt off about the sex - there was more fade to black than actual sex. There's lots of mentions of all the depraved and possibly illegal things that Sophie and Ryder do but not an awful lot of seeing them do those things. The only thing they seem to do is have a lot of exhibitionist alfresco sex.

2) both Sophie and Ryder were too willfully blind, I appreciate that a romance novel doesn't really work unless one or both of the characters cant see what is right in front of them but purlease!

I also, just a little bit, wished that the ending had been less predictable, it was done well but part of me wanted either the end to be ambiguous or for it to work out differently.

This is, apparently, the fourth book in a series. I had no problems reading this as a stand-alone although it was clear from all the recently paired-up, disgustingly good-looking couples in the book that this was part of a series.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

I’ve been waiting forever for this book, and Jennifer Dawson did not disappoint!

This story follows Sophie who moved to Revival following a scandal involving the company she worked for in Chicago that ended up with her losing her job and her reputation tainted. She rented a house next to sexy Ryder Moore, Revival’s deputy sheriff who also happened to be her landlord. Sparks instantly flew when these two met, and despite knowing he was bad for her, Sophie just couldn’t stay away…

Gosh, I love a great romance! Ryder and Sophie seemed to have nothing in common outside their huge lusts for each other. She’s a big-city girl who views Revival as a pit stop before she returns to Chicago, and Ryder can’t imagine living anywhere else. She’s a reformed wild girl, and he’s a bad boy down to the bone. And yet Jen did a great job showcasing Sophie and Ryder building a friendship, bonding over TV shows and takeout meals. Sure, they can’t take their eyes (and hands) off each other, but I appreciate that they also have a relationship that isn’t just pure lust. They truly liked each other and had a great time in each other’s company.

Sophie and Ryder’s romance is oh so hot! They remind me of Griffin and Darcy, also a bit of James and Gracie. Sophie is a headstrong and snarky woman, and Ryder loves to tease and goad her. Their verbal fights are my favourite part of their relationship; it’s just a huge foreplay, and everyone knows it’s only a matter of time before they fall into each other’s arms and (excuse my crassness) start screwing. I love that with Ryder, Sophie realizes that losing control isn’t that bad when you have the right person to do it with. I also love that Ryder loves Sophie as she is: smart mouth, wild streak and everything. One of my favourite scenes in this book is

Reading Head Over Heels makes me realized how much I’ve missed the world of Something New. I’m so going to reread this series later. Also, I’m still holding out for Sam’s book, Ms. Dawson!

It wasn't the greatest romance ever. I did have many feeling as always of course when I read romance books, the relationships make me so emotional. It had one of my fave trope which was dislike/hate turns to love. I missed the gang so that was fun to read about again!

Still I did have some issues and as I said, it wasn't any different from the other in the series. White people kissing and falling in love. This is something that I'm like "why" because it's a large group of friends and probably the next in the series will always be about white main characters, which it's like ????? Isn't there like a POC in this town or what. It's hard to believe. So that's that.

I could write an extensive review but it's just not coming to me. I have really enjoyed the last book in this series, but I was just a bit underwhelmed by this one. It felt too formulaic to me and I never really liked the heroine, Sophie.

Ofcourse the writing was, as always, great. Just did not enjoy the storyline.

DNF ~ I read the other books in the series and they were fun. Nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable. I just couldn’t get into this one. Sophie hated Ryder for no real reason and I just couldn’t be bothered to keep reading to figure out why I would want to care about the main characters.

3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. I liked it but I didn't love it. This is Sophie and Ryder's story. Sophie loses her high profile PR job when her boss goes to prison for embezzlement. Her connection with him and his company make her a professional pariah. So she moves to the small town of Revival, where one of her best friends lives, to get a short term job with the local government. She thinks she is way too good for the small town and will die of boredom. Sophie is counting down the days until she can move back to Chicago. But she soon meets her hot cop neighbor and things start to get interesting. Sophie doesn't want to get involved with him, but sparks fly and neither of them can help themselves. They spend time together and start to fall for each other. But real life intrudes and Sophie must make a decision- love with a small town cop or a lonely, but busy workaholic life in the city.

The main reason I didn't love this book was because of Sophie's behavior. From the very minute she met Ryder, she hated him because he was hot. She acted like a total bitch. It took me a long time to get into the book (about 30%) until I started to enjoy it. But once Sophie and Ryder kissed, I liked them together and felt their chemistry. I still felt like their was too much silly back and and forth behavior and wishy-washyness on Sophie's part. She was very immature acting and liked to play games. At 50%, she was still saying she hated Ryder. I was really hoping she would start acting like a grown up, but she really never did. Her behavior was childish throughout the whole book and she never really improved. I didn't hate her character, but she frustrated me. I liked Ryder a lot. He was pretty much perfect. I felt bad for the way Sophie acted towards him. To me, this book was way angstier than it needed to be for such a simple story. However, I did like the story a lot. I liked the small town atmosphere and Sophie's close friendships. The writing was pretty good. I am curious about the other books in the series and I may read them later.

I have read and enjoyed the Undone series by Ms. Dawson. I must say that I enjoyed those books more, but it could just be because of Sophie's character in this book. Overall, this was not a bad book, even if I didn't totally love it. However, it was still worth reading and I did enjoy it for the most part.

Head Over Heels goes end over end as we watch Sophie and Ryder wrestle with their off the charts insta-lust attraction as they stubbornly try to resist each other. What starts as an “I’ll look but shouldn’t touch” mantra has this main couple drooling, circling around each other, and exchanging heated glances, flirty/snarky back and forth banter, all while trying to convince themselves to keep their hearts and hands to themselves for the greater good of their futures. The problem is they both long to be oh so bad together.

Sophie is a high spirited, outspoken city girl who has put herself on a self-imposed small town exile after being caught up in a business debacle. With help from her friends, she’s determined to let the gossip winds die down and get her life back on track at the legendary windy city she calls home, Chicago. Beneath all that resilient, renegade, tough as nails persona, she is also still hurting and healing from a betrayal years ago that to this day has her questioning her sound judgement.

Recently Ryder has become just as determined to reform from his former bad boy ways and embrace marriage, stability, and a family of his own. Yeah, this hot deputy sheriff is on the right side of romance now and is committed to being a better man. His brain knows Sophie’s time in town has an expiration date, but other parts of his body are still trying to convince him to make the most of it and pursue her anyway. As they get to know each other, it becomes even more difficult for them to resist their “simmering like a volcano” attraction.

A little past the halfway mark, their relationship takes a whole new turn and that’s where you might need to brace yourself for some hot, steamy, at times public, smexy scenes with lots of lusty language, folks. Turns out Ryder is one naughty, dirty talking cop who likes to be in control. Sophie seems more than up for it though and definitely can handle whatever he dishes out. In fact, she would have it no other way.

I must confess I started to feel a little exhausted and impatient for these two meant to be together knuckle heads to stop living in denial and figure out how to make things work long term. Mainly after they were finally intimate. It took quite a bit of hand wringing and self-reflection before the romantic but pretty predictable HEA wrapped things up. Surprisingly, the slow burn build up which took up the first half of the book was not frustrating at all.

Romance Safety Gang:

Overall, you could say insta-lust and chemistry are what bind this main couple at first sight, though they fight it tooth and nail. Then once they give into temptation there is no going back. Angst and hand-wringing sets in for quite awhile but at least one of them lays it all on the line and forces a decision to be made.

Title: Head Over Heels, Series: Something New (Book 5), Author: Jennifer Dawson, Pages: 352, stand-alone but part of a series, former bad boy who now wants the real deal/good guy cop hero, sassy/feisty/wild side streak heroine, no cheating, one double date scenario, no love triangle, VERY steamy scenes with lots of lusty language (some of them public), made me blush at times. I have been a long time Jennifer Dawson fan and honestly this book was one of her best!! Her novels are synonymous with having loads of heat, humor and heart! Likewise she will always deliver a strong and sassy heroine that brings the hero to his knees and a hot and sexy alpha male that always has us squirming and swooning at the same time. I absolutely could not get enough of Ryder and Sophie and and all their sexy chemistry and banter.

When a work scandal forces Sophie Kincaid to relocate temporary to the small town of Revival with her reputation in tatters she doesn't know how she will cope with small town life after living in the big city. But with an aim to lick her professional wounds for six months until she can return to Chicago, after one glance at her HOT and Sexy neighbor and landlord, Ryder Moore, all her opinions of small town living go out the window. Gahhh the banter and chemistry between these two was INSANE!! They could not stay away from each other!! I was absolutely hooked on Sophie and Ryder as they both fought the push and pull towards one another thinking they needed calm and sensible to settle down with. But when they decided to just give in - WOW!! Pure Fireworks!!

All in all this was an amazinggg love story and I loved every second of it. I can't wait for more from this author in the future!

I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for an advanced e-copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

Sophie Kincaid sees her career going up in flames as the FBI has raided her bosses office and now have also lead her away. This is the way the book opens. A month later she has left Chicago and is moving in to a place in a town Revival Illinois. With a new job working for the city. She now meets her landlord and immediately is sassy and rude. Her landlord is Ryder Moore and he thinks it is funny the way she is acting towards him. She is attracted to him being that he is 6’4” and she is a blond and sassy. It continues when she is pulled over one night for speeding and who is that sheriff, you guessed it Ryder. Then a few days later at the house when she cannot get the garage door open and he is watching waiting for her to ask for help she goes inside and grabs her sledgehammer and takes care of the door herself. This is the way this story goes on. There are so many great scenes and the heat between these two characters you want them to them to be together but you don’t know if they will be. She wants to go back to Chicago and he wants to live in the small town. Many good story-lines and overall a very good, and good characters throughout this story. This was a really fun read. The heroine, Sophie Kincaid, has lost her job in Chicago and so has retreated to a small Illinois town where she joins friends and stars of earlier Dawson novels. She regards the time there as just a temporary stopover before she can return to the city. However, the house she’s renting is owned by and next to the hot and hunky deputy sheriff, Ryder Moore. The two are instantly attracted to each other, however both of them recognize that this would be a bad idea, a very bad idea. She’s only there temporarily and Ryder is ready for a more serious relationship. And Sophie is afraid that she’ll fall into the trap of falling for a bad boy. Been there, done that.

But it turns out that Ryder really isn’t a bad guy. He is a really nice and thoughtful guy who happens to be hot and hunky, ride a Harley, and own a classic Mustang. Their resistance to each other lasts only a couple of days and soon they’re doing it everywhere and in every which way. But the clock is still ticking on Sophie’s time in the small town.

I enjoyed the snarky dialogue overlaid on the sweet, small town romance novel vibe. You know a book is good when you want to read all the other books in the series.

I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jennifer Dawson takes us back to Revival, Illinois in this fantastic opposites attracts story that had me laughing and swooning at the same time. It's a great small town romance as city girl Sophie Kincaid finds herself inexplicably drawn to small town guy Ryder Moore. Yes, he's the bad boy type she's always found attractive but she's sworn off that type so why is he getting under her skin? She's only in Revival because her professional life imploded and she needs this job to get her footing. Ryder knows just the type of woman Sophie Kincaid is and he'll just have to deal with her for the short term lease she has on his house. Her beauty and snarky mouth will have no affect on him. At. All! Ok, maybe a little. What would a little fun with the city girl hurt??

A great read and one I highly recommend. Although part of a series this is easily read standalone.

Ms. Dawson has a talent more magnetic than seduction. Her knack to find humor in moments that are not always humorous is why I keep coming back for more. Within the pages of her tempting novels are morsels of optimism that touch the heart and characters that set hormones raging. Head over Heels is an alluring opposites attract tale of intriguing romance and emotional upheaval. Ryder and Sophie can bring out the worst in each other, but that thunder is morphing into something neither thought possible. LOVE! Jennifer Dawson keeps readers guessing with addictive and entertaining tales of romance.

When Sophie escapes to small town Revival after a work meltdown that her boss caused, she doesn’t expect her super hot neighbor to provide a must need distraction but that’s exactly what he does.

These two have their ups and downs, but it was a super fun read to find out how to go from enemies to friends with benefits to more, and with everything in between along the way.

This book can be read as a stand-alone but every book in this series is great.

It's been SO long since I read a new author and then immediately needed to read more and I could not be happier to finally have a new author's stuff to obsess over. This book was so good. The characters were well developed and fun, with insta-lust but not insta-love. Honestly, I basically loved everything about this and immediately added all of Jennifer Dawson's books to my "to-read" list.

ARC received thanks to publisher & Netgalley.

Oh god this was so good. I loved Sophie and Ryder, they were great characters and their romance was so hot, angst-y and heartwarming. I loved this book, I need my own copy asap.

Another great installment to this series. Jennifer Dawson is one of the few contemporary authors I can read in any mood. This one also introduced a bunch of future possibilities that has me very excited for more!

I am rating this low because I still could not get over James & Gracie story. Still the best for me in this series, and one of the best books the author has ever written.

This book for me, was meh, because the plot is about s** s** and more s**

I have mixed feelings over this book. It took me quite a while to actually get into it. The first 50% were somewhat repetitive but from 51% onwards I was invested. I love reading about a heroine who refuses to give up her life in order to follow her man to wherever he is. That being said, Sophie is not a likeable character. Her arrogance and rudeness is infuriating as is the blatant disrespect she has for those who try to help her. Ryder is your stereotypical alpha male looking to settle down. He puts up with Sophie's bullshit but at the end of the day, its obvious how much he lets her walk all over him. I was interested to see who would be the one to make the big change but was not surprised by the decision.

Overall, the book has merit, I liked the storyline but the characters are not likeable or relatable which made it hard to form an attachment. The sex scenes were pretty hot, especially the one in the bar. If you're looking for a book thats heavy on the attitude, angst and sex, you're likely to enjoy it.

When the FBI investigates her boss and he ends up in jail, Sophie Kincaid finds herself fleeing Chicago where no can judge her about her professional reputation being in tatters. Working in the small town of Revival, Illinois, should be perfect to get her career back on track, but Sophie never imagined she'd fall in love. So when her six months are up and it's time to head back to Chicago, will Sophie be able to leave or will she give up everything she's worked so hard for because of love?

I love this series, and this story was absolutely fantastic because of the feisty heroine and her need to prove that she's immune to the hero since she believes he's just like a guy that once swept her off her feet and then broke her heart. Will she win the battle or will Ryder prove difficult to resist with his charming ways and his need to keep her off balance with his terms of endearment that annoy Sophie a lot? The way this story started had me feeling sorry for the heroine because she doesn't deserve what happened to her due to her boss being a greedy idiot. However, in saying that, this book became even more captivating once the hero and heroine came met, because of Sophie's reaction towards the hero. She's snarky, feisty and had me smiling due to her friends wondering what is wrong with her.

As for the dialogue, it was highly entertaining and a wonderful combination of intense moments and playful banter that had me loving this couple's interactions and the matchmaking of the secondary characters. Moreover, the hero and heroine have so many great qualities that made them relatable and likeable. Sophie is hard-working, independent, feisty and I liked how much of a challenge she provided for the hero. I also liked how determined she was to keep her distance from the hero, even though with their chemistry it seemed inevitable that she'd give in, which is proven by the fan-your-face sex scenes. While the hero, he's hard-working, good to his family and so charming and confident that I could not get enough of him. Certainly, it's hard for Sophie not to engage him when he's so irresistible and charismatic; a man that isn't easy to ignore with his affable personality, which makes him a good cop.

Overall, Ms. Dawson has penned another marvellous read for this series where the chemistry was brilliant; the secondary characters are wonderful with their advice and matchmaking; and the ending had me almost crying happy tears because of the decisions the hero and heroine were willing to make to achieve their happy ever after. However, it was the decision one of the main characters made that had me smiling, because how could they possibly leave behind those they love and everything they've worked so hard for. I would recommend Head over Heels by Jennifer Dawson, if you enjoy small town romances or books by authors Jill Shalvis, Lauren Layne, Jessica Lemmon and Candis Terry.

Sophie believes she's living the life. She lives in the city where everything (shopping, takeout, & Starbucks) is at her disposal. She has a job she loves, but it all changes on a dime. FBI swarm her job, shutting it down. As VP, Sophie was found not guilty, but her image was tarnished nonetheless. In her spare time, Sophie also wrote a successful blog about new, trendy places in the city. It too suffers due to the investigation. So Sophie's friends convince her to move to Revival, temporarily.

Maddie arranges for Sophie to rent a house from Ryder, Revival's sheriff. On moving day, Sophie is greeted by her new next door neighbor and landlord, Ryder. Sophie assumes he's a "wild" man as he rides a Harley. Due to past experience, Sophie has dedicated her life to NOT making the wrong choices where men are concerned. She once "loved" a wild, dominating man who turned out to be VERY wrong for her. When he left her, it brought up all her abandonment issues she suffered as a child. So she thinks she needs a nice, stable guy--not Ryder.

Ryder was raised in a loving home with two parents and sisters. He moved to Revival to start over, become sheriff, and settle down. What he didn't expect, was to fall for someone like Sophie. She's a city girl, wild, sassy, and leaving in 6 months. She pushes every one of his buttons. When he's around Sophie, he can't help but agitate her. He finds it extremely easy to be himself with her, which disturbs him. Ryder vows to stay away from Sophie, but can he?

This was an AWESOME novel! It's fun, sassy, and witty. It makes your heart hurt for Sophie and Ryder. It's laugh out loud funny as well. It is in a series, but I didn't feel "lost" while reading it. I can't wait to go back and read Maddie and Penelope's stories. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I really like Jennifer Dawson. And this is a fun series. I was trying to figure out what makes this book different from some other romance books. They both have couples that fall in lust/love and have a lot of explicit sex (just an fyi if that's not your thing). But I decided that these romance books are lighter...like maybe you would call it....softcore (soft core? soft-core??). Some romance books have a lot darker tone with guys that tend to be waaaaay too alpha for my taste. Always ordering the women around. And even though both parties have actual personalities and the plots aren't awful, I don't enjoy them as much. Dawson does a great job of having super hot guys but with emotions and most of whom don't try to drag the woman around by the hair. And the women are pretty awesome too, and they aren't all the same type that usually pop up in the darker ones.

I like this series, but this book was fun because both of them are kind of wild and unashamed of it. While I do not condone doing each other on your front lawn (uhh especially if you are a COP!!!), it was a nice change from the alpha guy and the really inexperienced chick. I think my favorite line is when another guy asks how Ryder tamed Sophie, and he says that he didn't tame her because he likes her wild the way she is. AWWWWW!!! But seriously folks, the swoon is here! Plus, I will always love a good snarkfest between love interests. Best kind of foreplay? Probs.

So, definitely recommend any of this series. I'm going back to read them again because I apparently never reviewed them or even put them on my shelf. Also it reminds me of another series about some cowboys somewhere that I want to reread, but I can't think of the name.

Head Over Heels, the latest from Jennifer Dawson,is about Sophie and Ryder.
I loved it and read it in one night.I liked it that they where a good match with
the give and take.Sophie moves for 6 months to Revival.city girls as she is.
this is a no fun experience.but she is determent to make the best off things.
There is her best friend Maddy,a house and a job to make her own.
what she did not count in,is her sexy, hot, and more landlord Ryder.
Ryder is looking for wild and adventure .He is in for fun and sexy times
nothing more.perfekt for each other.for a couple off months they are having a good time.
too bad there is something that complicates things, feelings, among the very least.
how to deal with that.

I liked Sophie,I liked that she was happy with her life and it was good
while it lasted.she had fun and owned up to herself.about her mistakes.
what I did not like about her, where her blinders and it took a bit too long
to see things clearly.Because Maddy as the close by friend.I thought that
she where the one,who made Sophie see sense,She did but not soo much
as Penelope.I love that girl.
Ryder, was a sweetheart, who also was not afraid to go after the things and lady
he wanted.I loved it and loved that he could give Sophie a run for her money.
without being an asshole.they where good as a couple.
loved the banter, fun and sexy times.

and I really hope Charlie is next, maybe with Jessica or who knows
and can please Sam meet his special one.
overall a fun, well written romance, with a good storyline and sexy fun times.
a real Jennifer Dawson

Sophie Kincaid's PR career implodes, due to the actions of her boss at the firm she works for in Chicago. With her name tainted in the PR world, she decides she needs to lay low in small town Revival, Illinois. She is prepared to spend a boring 6 months with little to do... until her new neighbor rolls up and shatters her plans.

Ryder Moore takes one look at Sophie and can't look away... and then she opens her mouth, and he is infatuated. With their mutual antagonistic relationship, she is more fun than he has had with a woman in a long time. Now all he has to do is convince Sophie how great they would be together... even if it can only ever be temporary.

This book was awesome. I loved it all. Sophie is a strong, yet lightly damaged woman. She takes one look at Ryder and knows he is trouble, so she goes on the immediate offensive to him so he will keep his distance. But, her plan backfires when Ryder enjoys their sparring immensely. Ryder loves small town life, his family is nearby and he has everything he could ask for... except a woman who wants to settle down with him. Although he knows Sophie has no plans that would coincide with settling down in Revival, he can't stop himself from pursuing her.

With immensely entertaining banter, scorching sexual tension, hot sex and fantastic characters, this book was the complete package, and a highly recommended read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
