This e-book provides background information about the MBR (membrane bioreactor) wastewater treatment system and detailed discussion of process design calculations for this process. It is a relatively recent addition in the wastewater treatment field. Combining an aeration tank with membrane filtration instead of a secondary clarifier, results in a more compact system than conventional activated sludge that produces a higher quality effluent. The discussion of process design includes sizing the membrane module, calculation of the scouring air flow needed, sizing the aeration tank, calculating the air flow needed for the aeration tank, and sizing a pre-anoxic tank for denitrification.
