Vampires aren't the only things that go bump in the night...
Singers are a dime a dozen in Nashville, so despite her mama's urging, psychic Ariana Ryder's working her way towards a career in law enforcement at the FBI, one tray of fetched coffee at a time, instead. She's got an extremely handsome boss, a dancing partner among the lab techs, and a solid year as the team rookie under her belt...
Right until the director gives her a big break, working undercover as a singer at a club to investigate why it's being targeted by a serial killer. This might have worked better if the club didn’t happen to be a vampire nest.
Now, with the vampires' investigator, Quil, on her case, the sparks are flying and the jurisdictional battle isn't the only thing heating up as they race to solve the case before the killer strikes again!

Amie was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. She started making up stories before she could read and would act them out with her dolls and stuffed animals. She started actually writing them down in college, just decided to do it one day and couldn't stop.
She took an unplanned hiatus from writing when she went to Vanderbilt Law School and all of her brain power got consumed by cases, statutes, exams, and partying like only grad students in Nashville can. She graduated and picked her writing back up as soon as her brain limped back in after the bar exam.
She loves urban fantasy and is obsessed with the theory of alternate realities. Whether or not she travels to them in the flesh or just in her mind is up for debate.
She spends her days living the law life and her nights writing when she's not hitting downtown Nashville to check out live music or inflict her singing on the crowds at karaoke bars.
Psychic Undercover contains an enormous amount of creatures, crazy characters, twisted plot, one immature FBI Psychic, lots of vampires, and a good deal of dry humor scattered about. Well done! Enjoyed it from start to finish! Will definitely be reading more in this series! Very clever.
I'm pulling the plug at the 20% mark - I just can't take any more of our first person narrative - Ariana is like a hyper active yapping poodle who won't shut up. She shares every thought with the reader and way too often opens her mouth and 'accidentally' shares inappropriate thoughts with others - she might as well wield her mouth shut, she claps her hand over her mouth so many times that it is mind boggling annoying and repetitive. She's an intern working for the FBI, young - yet the two main romance leads are way out of her league - she's crushing on her mature, experienced FBI boss. And then there's Quil - vamp who's a couple of centuries old. Calls her prey. And she's pretty okay with that. I found myself fighting the storyline - scoffing every time something supernatural is mentioned - rather than immersing myself is this world and going with the flow.
And I kept wondering how Ariana's vision magic worked. Why does she sometimes get ultra useful visions, and other times completely old and extraneous ones? How can she get different visions off the same person/vamp? The rules weren't laid in stone and seemed to bend and sway at the whim of the author. She's immune to Vamp hypnotism. But they aren't immune to her psychic powers.
Too much information dumped on the reader - yet still the world is hazy and the rules too changeable. A heroine who is too immature, rah-rah cheerleader annoying and gagging for some sort of sexual domination (or that's what the vamps seem to be saying) And I'm out.
for this being a free story it was pretty good. The beginning grabbed me right away. I loved the snarkyness, I find a good book has to have some type of mouthy character in it and this one does. I really liked the twist on vampires this book had silver really? It had me laughing as the story unfolded. I found it interesting. I would have given this book 5 stars but im knocking one off because i knew who the "bad guy" was about half way in.
➸ Who knew that carpets could be so adorable? I want more Pyro content.
➸ Speaking of adorable—I hope Quin and Ariana remain together, or if they do breakup at some point they ultimately end up together by the end of the series. Unless this turns into a reverse harem, poly, or ménage romance, in which case I’m all for Grant joining in. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that’s a no go.
➸ Whilst we’re at it, let’s add Milo of Miami to the harem (but only if he also gets Blanche).
➸ Romance aside, I‘d like to further explore Ariana’s relationships with her family—especially with her brother Mikey and sister Ava. Both promise some drama.
➸ I’m already over the vampire queen storyline. I’m not a fan of the whole “leader or a people abuses their power by discreetly taking control of the democratic process, conditioning its people to accept their transition to tyranny, therefore becoming too powerful and influential to be easily overthrown.” I.e., Quil and Ariana know that Jade is the villain, but they don’t have any evidence to prove it, so they can’t do anything. Logically, I understand why they need the evidence to overthrow her, as just their word alone won’t be enough to convince the majority of her brainwashed subjects that she’s the bad guy. But emotionally, I just want to see the b!tch get her comeuppance sooner rather than later.

Dnf. It has taken me 6 days to get through a little over 100 pages. The constant apostrophes drove me insane. It didn't bother me so much during dialogue but when she'd be using it with inner monologue, but then be inconsistent about it, was enough for me to keep putting it down.
Here's an example of the "g" at the end of the word being inconsistent with her. Page 15/16: "Grant handed me a picture of the girl in a group of five other teenagers and twenty-somethin's, arms... Page 15/16: "...cuz they have to mean something to the people..."
Both are inner monologue. The first is hyphenated.
So here is another example. Page 58: " ...like it was something else... Page 59: "...but somethin' told me that was more..."
Again, both inner monologue.
I just chose the word |something| as an example but the "g" would be on some words and then not on others, but then might be on that word it hadn't been on and then not be later on. I know, it's confusing! If this had happened maybe one time, even two times or three, I could have brushed it off. It was through the entire book, though. When it's page after page of this inconsistency, I cannot finish. I literally would have been okay with the apostrophes in the inner monologue if it had just stayed consistent. Now, this is just my preference, I like when I read the slang/accent in dialogue but whole words for inner monologue.
For example: "I ain't never gonna pull this off if you keep buggin' me like that", I said to him when I couldn't take his nagging any longer. I was trying my best but it felt like my best wasn't good enough for him.
Like I said, personal preference so I can't take away anything from a star review based on what I like. What I do need is consistency, though.
I didn't really have a problem with the story itself. It honestly just wasn't holding my attention. I do think it was partly due to my irritation. The fmc is supposed to be a fast-tracked FBI agent. You have to go through so much training mentally and physically to work for the government and she did not fit the bill. We're supposed to accept she's in the FBI when she is written as childish and somewhat stupid. Please pick one or the other for the start of the series. Make her stupid then smart and join the FBI or make her FBI and closed off and intelligent to develop a more accepting and free personality.
If you love paranormal murder mysteries, vampire romances, and spunky heroines, get ready for a sizzling, spellbinding ride into the world of psychic detective Ariana Ryder. Ariana Ryder's the rookie on the FBI's paranormal investigative team in Nashville. She's too young, too perky, and too immature. (At least according to some people.) She's only got the job for one reason. She's a psychic. Her mama's sure she can do more with her gifts. But what's more important than solving crimes? Especially this one? The brutal murder of a young woman outside a club. This murderer is just getting warmed up, and Ariana's sight alone isn't going to stop him, but the FBI aren't the only one's investigating... The jurisdictional battle between the human and supernatural worlds isn't the only thing boiling over as Ariana's team and a new ally she shouldn't trust, but is overwhelmingly attracted to, race to catch the killer before he strikes again, and gets what he really came for. I have to admit the idea of having a psychic FBI detective teaming up with the Vampires and falling in love with one of them was a bit unusual, but this author made it not only believable but something you wanted to know how it would all work out. A vampire was having demons killing off other vampires and the FBI was called in to investigate as humans were being killed as well. Ariana teams up with a few vampires and they need to find out wo hired the Summoner to summon the demons and why and to end the killing of humans as well as vampires. Interesting premise with a whole lot of acftion!
I loved this book! Ariana is an FBI probational agent. She just got psychic powers 2 years ago and joined the FBI after a traumatic experience. Her boss Grant rescued her from the experience and then she joins his FBI paranormal investigator team. She has a crush on Grant, who is at least 10 years older than her. He has let her know that she is too young for him and he is her boss and that he is not interested in her romantically. He is her friend, and kind to her and consoles her when she has a bad vision. Their cases deal with paranormal, vampires, demons, witches, etc.
She doesn’t know much about her powers and is learning as she goes. She does know that she gets visions when she touches people. The first time she touches someone she gets what she calls the first touch… it is what the person feels is the most important thing that has happened to them.
Human women are showing up with two puncture marks on them and drained of blood. One of the victims worked as a singer at a nightclub. Ariana has to go undercover (in what she later learns is a vampire nightclub) as a singer to see if she can figure out what happened to the girl.
She meets and ends up helping the vampire investigator Quil and getting involved in vampire drama and politics.
I read this book in 2 days. I could not put it down. It almost reminded me of the early Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books that dealt more with investigating cases before it changed into erotica.
I'd consider the mystery portion of this novel exceptional, but the road to enjoying it is rocky. Off the top, the heroine is not likable as other reviews have confirmed. The unprofessionalism is real. The midsection of this book hits you with weird dialogue about politics. And plantation and gay fashion are two unnecessary descriptions that are used in this book. There were also many nonsexual moments that were quite weird and might give you the creeps. Skipping over that, the mystery is everything I wanted. She put a lot of work into the world-building. My favorite parts are how much thought she put into the vampire lore. The most realistic character goes to the leader of the FBI, who was just badass. I was living for him. Best villain goes to Milo and he's not the villain (not a spoiler). The romance was cute. Slight love triangle, but I loved the other guy more. It's through his eyes that I liked her less. It was hard rating this one.
3.8 starts I’m of two minds on this one. The story in itself was interesting, but the main FMC was a hot mess with childish tossed into the mix. Then the romance… if we wanna call it that. She had past trauma and made a promise to herself then sees a hot guy and bangs him when he first comes knocking. That just doesn’t jive! Not only does she have feelings for another but as soon as a 3rd shows internet she can barley say no or does so begrudgingly. That just felt foul. Now with the boyfriend, I think he has motives. And all that blood play they do has to have consequences. He even mentioned a bond when the other wanted to offer his blood. Yet he never talked to her about it, or any consequences. Warning flag, and why do that to start with? She knew him all of 3 minutes. Just stupid!!! For an FBI agent she sure is rash and a bit stupid and let’s not forget childish! The story otherwise was interesting. Trigger warnings for kidnapping, murder, rape, and blood play.
This was a 3.5 rounded up to 4 for me. I enjoyed this, and the world was interesting, clever and fun, with a few different takes on the paranormals. I always love a police procedural, one of my favourite tropes in urban fantasy, and this was good in that it stuck to the theme, didn't go veering off into utterly unbelievable rule breaking that so often happens and the characters stayed interesting and fun. The action was full on and despite being a long book the story flowed well. My only slight issue was the main character herself, she was a little whiny and lacking in sense, and all the men revolved around her. For that I marked it down, as it grates a little on me, however I have hope that she will evolve as the series goes on, and there is already signs of character development. So I will definitely try another book in the series.
Fun, fast paced and entertaining. Aside from the crime they are investigating (serial killer rapist) it is actually very light and silly in parts which might annoy some but which I enjoyed like the sentient magic carpet and our narrator – bubbly (and slightly spoilt) rookie agent and psychic Ariana. The characters were fun and interesting. I am looking forward to finding out more about mysterious FBI team leader Grant and his powers. I was expecting alot more from the introduction of Milo to the story, particularly given what he has in common with Ari so was surprised and disappointed with where that went but hopefully we will meet the King of Miami soon.
A small FBI unit charged with investigating supernatural crimes is called into investigate the rapes and murders of three young women. Soon the least experienced agent, Ariana Ryder, is going under cover in a nest of vampires.
This is a silly book that is not especially suspenseful. Ryder is truly annoying. A psychic bimbo she is more poor little rich girl with a sloppy vernacular than Clarissa Starling. She has the hots for her boss and a hunky vampire. She is always hugging her colleagues. The tongue in cheek tone gets tiring. There are too many characters, few worth caring about. Pass
I only gave this one 3 stars because of the way it’s written. The author has gone out of the way to make the narrative sound the way people speak. While I realize most of us do drop the G at the end of some words when we speak (askin, running, etc) reading a book written in that kind of dialect is both distracting and irritating to me as a reader. I’m going to try and finish the book so I can give an honest opinion on the plot. I know This probably won’t appear under the review section since Amazon seems to take down this type of criticism, but if the writer doesn’t see it, how will she know?
The plot focuses on a complicated agreement between vampires and humans in order to reveal traitors in a vampire nest and stop the demon murderer from killing more innocent girls. Interlaced in all of the undercover work is a steamy romance that heats up the pages. I love the snarky Agent Ryder and the team of investigators (human and vampire), especially Grant, the General and the sexy vamp Quil.
One thing that drove me mad was the respelling ( cuz for because, ya for you, 'in for -ing) it was irregular and unnecessary, and it interrupted the story for me.
This was a really cute book. More of a 3.5 for me and I will most likely continue the story. I guess I really just didn't like where they made Arianna seem immature and made her feel less than she should. Until that came up, I really didn't see that in the story. Just that she brought the light and fun into the team. So maybe I overlooked something or it was the only way the "General" could deal with her crush. Anyhoo, if you like detective stories and the paranormal, this is for you!
Honestly, I don't normally read books about vampires, but I'm glad I read this one. The main characters, Ariana, Quil, and Grant are complex with the promise of mysterious abilities to be revealed in the future. Along with political intrigue, treachery, a romantic triangle and sexy romance, this story is a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters.
A fun read! It was great seeing how the main gal used her psychic skills in her work environment and how she communicated with the men in her life. Getting memories from touch from people would be super cool. It was good to see a boss being a boss. The boss reminded me of Gibbs from NCIS. There's laughs and tears and I bet the next books in the series are just as awesome.
A cleverly crafted universe in which humans, vampires, and psychics react Despite being implausible the tale hangs together with integrity. The story is pacey the tension is maintained with barely a hiccup. We care for the characters, the are dimensioned but cleverly so, we know there is more to come. First in a series, the author is promoting further purchases by offering more of the same, rather than leaving the story unfinished. I will probably imbibe further
This is a good start for a series about an FBI agent who also has psychic powers, but that doesn’t mean she’s a superstar. While we learn about her she is just starting to learn more about her power, and more in the world that is not just for humans alone. A real good start for a series, makes you want to go to the next book and see how thing progress. Which is just what a first book of a series should do.
I read the beginning and thought “oh no, another deep Southern accent gone wrong” but boy was I in for a surprise. I was hooked by Chapter 1…. And stayed up all night reading! I can’t wait to grab the next in the series. Give this book a try!!
Just a note some of y’all like more “clean” cozy books and this is does have some detailed sex and lots of fight scenes. I love that but if you don’t find another book.
Ariana joins the FBI in a secret group that investigates paranormals. She is young and immature and is still trying to figure out how her gift works. Girls are being killed and it looks like a vampire is killing them so the group investigates some groups to see who is to blame. Lots of secrets in the vampire world and she falls for a vampire as well. Too many explicit sex scenes, but otherwise the story is good.
Absolutely loved this book. Couldn't put it down. The mystery is fascinating and as the case progresses wanted to find out who the bad guys were. Love the plot, the humor and mystery, and especially the interactions between characters . Can't wait for next book. Please read this book.
Quirky, fun, and fast-paced, I loved Psychic Undercover (with the Undead). Great pacing, unusual story line, wonderful characters and protagonists. A new author for me, although probably not one I'll continue reading as future books in the series are priced outside my budget. I highly recommend the story--you'll love Ariana and the rest of the crew.
This was a good start to the series. The FMC Ariana is lovable and a bundle of excitement as any 23 year old FBI Agent with psychic abilities would be. Most can relate to the lack of brain to mouth filter when nervous or at least I do!
It's going to be interesting to see when her boss Grant true self is revealed and also if he ever admits his feelings for her as the series continues.
You'll find a friend when it's least expected and could lose one just as quickly.
This was a classic detective romance with a twist. A vampire twist. Friends and co-workers at the club keep dying. It has earmarks of a serial killer. But the club turns out to be vampire owned and the killer is a demon. Can a psychic help? Or is she the intended victim?
Easy reading but knocked down a star because I got lost a few times in the plot and there were a couple of scenes which made me "icky". Still there was a lot to recommend this book from the hot vamp to the hot boss... Will definitely check out more books by this author.
My heart skyrocketed, hitting the moon, actually, it probably made it to Mars and planted potatoes.
This started out great. Humour. Mystery. A psychic and a sexy, hard nosed FBI agent as her boss.
Then lost some points along the way when vampires turned up, the boss thing didn’t go where I wanted it to go, the protag became too whiny, and the author kept using “cuz” instead of “because”.
Still, it deserves a solid 3-Stars as I did like the initial premise, even if it didn’t go where I wanted it to go in the end.
I really did not expect a sex-filled romantic mystery with the main character mostly acting like a spoiled child and speaking like a teenager, except for when she was getting laid.
I enjoyed it but I HATED the author's use of thesland "cuz". Drove me nuts but I will continue to read the series I think. I'm also left wondering if Ariana's vision with the vamp psychic was in fact Grant & how the vamp asked "he hasn't told you?".. it has me thinking & wondering
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was surprised by this book. A very good, intricate paranormal cop story! A lady cop who reads minds is added to the team to track down a killer that is making it look like Vampire attacks.
