John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris was the son of a barrister. After trying a number of careers, including farming, law, commercial art and advertising, he started writing short stories in 1925. After serving in the civil Service and the Army during the war, he went back to writing. Adopting the name John Wyndham, he started writing a form of science fiction that he called 'logical fantasy'. As well as The Day of the Triffids, he wrote The Kraken Wakes, The Chrysalids, The Midwich Cuckoos (filmed as Village of the Damned) and The Seeds of Time.

I loved "The Chrysalids" by John Wyndham when I read it years ago, and I loved it when I read it again the other night. Wyndham uses sci-fi to comment on society, and "The Chrysalids" is all about the fear of differences, and the refusal to move ahead as society changes. Don't judge Wyndham's work by the terrible movies based on his books (e.g., "The Day of the Triffids," and "Midwich Cuckoos" ). You must read his books to appreciate these stories; they are fun and timeless. "The Chrysalids" was published in 1955 and is still relevant.

I really enjoyed this book- as a sequel to the Triffids it was amazing. I did this on an audiobook and it was a good thing, I would have rushed the read otherwise. It was compelling and I was excited to see every twist and turn.
I would really love a sequel to this now. AND a good movie.

There is a fun part in the end that you will appreciate if you are a Jefferson Airplane fan.

This book was on Villanova University 's English department 's summer reading list, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Not my usual genre, but I really enjoyed this story.
Will read more by this author.

This is a dystopian story far scarier and more realistic than 1984 or Brave New World. It's where the world could really be headed and it scares me.
