Kidnapped from Earth and transported to planet Zorn to be sold as a sex slave, Shanna is one angry, frightened woman ready to fight anyone who tries to touch her. Raised in foster care, she’s not going to take any crap off some alien men no matter how big, terrifying or muscular they are. Before she can be sold, she’s freed by a huge, sexy Zorn warrior... a warrior with the most beautiful blue eyes she’s ever seen. Shanna demands he take her under his protection when she realizes she’s stuck on Zorn.
Hyvin Berrr, the leader of Zorn, thinks humans are helpless and weak. Shanna decides to teach the big hunk he’s wrong by knocking him on his backside. He might think she’s playing but she’s trying to teach him a lesson. She’s not sure if she wants to fight her feelings for the sexy alien, though if a woman has to lose a battle, this just might be the one time to concede.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙💚❤️💜💖 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎 Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Shanna - Shanna was abducted by aliens and she has been fighting them at every chance, which they say will make her sale difficult. Though she promised herself not to stop fighting until she was dead. The three aliens that took her planned to sell her as a sex slave on the red planet they landed on.
The Hero:Hyvin Berrr - He is the leader of the planet Zorn. He has a bunch of grown sons and was bound to the same Zorn woman for a long time. She was a strong female who did what she wanted and always spoke her mind, often in the form of insults, despite the fact that Zorn is a highly patriarchal society. Since Hyvin’s sons found human women, they have been dropping one by one, each falling for the females from Earth. Though Hyvin thinks humans are too small and weak and not worth the trouble.
The Story: When some new men came into the auction after Shanna kicked a guy and screamed, an important looking man came in and shut down the auction, imprisoning the aliens that were selling her and killing their leader. Hyvin Berrr, the leader of the planet and leader of the raid on the auction, promised Shanna that she would be safe.
When the other men in Berrr’s service start fighting over Shanna, Berrr takes her away and she agrees to be one of his ‘house helpers’ it is pretty funny when she thinks he means housekeeper but really ‘house helpers’ are basically his mistresses. The miscommunication is hilarious as it goes on for quite a while.
I liked the story in this one though there was less action and adventure than in some of the other books in this series. The romance was better and I liked that the patriarchal society didn’t bother me as much in this one as in the others. Since Berrr was bound to another, yet separated there were issues that were hard to overcome, but I liked the fact that he had a bunch of ‘house helpers’ and that he threw them over for Shanna.
This book was told via solo narration and was narrated by Simone Lewis. She is doing a good job and has a very pleasant-sounding voice. I like her narration style, though I do wish this was done in dual or duet narration with a male and a female narrator.
the story's ok and what you expect. don't look for character development or complex characterization. the heroine falls in love within hours of meeting the hero. i understand we need to accelerate the relationship so we can get right to the whoopie, but c'mon. could they at least have 3 separate conversations before we're thrust into undying, jealous love?
so far, i think Ral's Woman is the best of this series because Ariel was the least annoying of the women. Shanna starts off ok - street tough chick who knows how to fight and doesn't take any crap from anyone. she quickly gets annoying when she
a) refuses to shut up long enough to let Berrr explain the differences in Zorn society, but has the nerve to get pissed off at him when the results of her cluelessness come back to bite her in the ass
and b) gets all insecure and emotional for no reason when Berrr has to send her to his son's house temporarily to protect her from his bitch wife. him and the wife are separated and she basically refuses to let him out of the relationship out of spite. Shanna knows this but her insane, irrational, and insecure brain has her immediately jumping to the conclusion that he must be taking her to his son's home so he can get back with his wife - the woman he has made clear he cannot stand. i wanted to jump into my kindle and slap the stupid out of her. thankfully, it only lasted about a chapter.
Yes, yes, yes! I am soooo glad we got Hyvin Berrr’s story. He really needed an HEA. After what he has been through he deserved to find someone who wanted to be with him and who makes him happy.
I really liked that Shanna isn’t meek, she is a strong-willed human who fights for what she wants. I think she is perfect for the leader of the Zorn people.
There are other warriors I would like to see books from. I am sad that there only seems to be one more novella left of this series.
I am a huge fan of Simone Lewis’s narration of this series she really made each character unique.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
I thought this book was good, though I really liked the first two books better. I did like the fact that Shanna is a kick-ass woman even if she is a human. And Berrr is great - an alpha male (THE alpha male of their planet), but is also sensitive and a bit sad because of his circumstance with his current bound. The thing is if he is such a great ruler then how in the HELL did his bound bitch get him to bound to her again. I mean, that is just a dumbass move. So I gotta question is right to rule an entire planet. He put this on himself and it is a good thing that he's got a strong, human woman to get him out of the shit he dug himself. I guess after all the grief that he gave his sons about their human mates it is only fitting he has fate bite him in the ass.
I haven't been too impressed with the last two books from this series but decided to finally read it based on the high ratings on a lot of listopia polls. I really wasn't expecting much as Hyvin Berrr, the hero in this book, wasn't a fav character of mine in previous books. Cons in wanting to read this book including he was the father of the previous book characters and staid rigid leader of the Zorn warriors with an intense dislike of Earth women mating with his sons. Pros once I did read this book: he was the father/leader of the planet who didn't like or understand Earth women. I love it when the silent strong alpha guy gets his butt handed back to him by us weak fragile human girls. Go Shanna!!!
Having read the previous books of the series I was up to speed on the customs and differences in the Zorn culture but a reader who hasn't read book 1, 2, or 3 may be get confused so reading the previous books is advised. But if you have read the previous books and were put off on this one like I was. Man oh man, this was really good and you won't regret reading it. My big problem now is I want the author to give Vinlotti, a secondary character in this book, his own story so very much but see that it's not in the works right now. Please Laurann Dohner write another installment in this series featuring Vinlotti. He shouldn't be made to live in book character limbo. He is deserving in my eyes!!!
I keep forgetting why I don't like this series. Laurann Dohner isn't the best author, she has a good imagination, but execution and writing skill, leaves a lot left to be desired. Most of her female "heroines" are Karen's and other women are just dim bimbo's or overly aggressive for the most stupid reasons.
I hate this series the most for how she writes the females of planet Zorn.
It's insane to me how these females are treated by their males, and even more insane that she vilifies them in these circumstances. I find myself feeling sorry for them, and disgusted with the males who treats them with such carelessness. I cannot for the life of me find anything romantic in a male who mistreats a female. And I'm sorry, but forcing females to be with you is just plain wrong.
Laurann hides behind "culture" and "instinct" to explain the way they act. But it's hard to take from a so called evolved race, who's traveling space to other planets still have "cave man mentality" It's unrealistic and honestly just disgusting.
Women of Earth should know better and I find it disturbing that none of them are fighting this injustice anymore than throwing a temper tantrum and forgetting about it after getting some dick. smh.
4.0 First Love Stars Hyvin Berrr is the leader of the Zorn Warriors. Though he has watched his sons fall in love with human women, he is a man that has never known love. His wife hates him and her only motivation in life is to cause him pain since he killed her one true love.
Hyvin Berrr
Shanna has been kidnapped by aliens to be sold as a love slave. Though she is rescued by Zorn warriors, she learns that she will not be returned to Earth and will never see home again. Shauna became one of my all time favorite heroines because she could totally kick ass. Berrr was a sweetheart of a man and I learned to love him just as much as I loved his sons.
Laurann tells amazing stories full of characters that are so vivid and wonderful. The love scenes are always smoking hot so there is never any more to ask for.
I truely hope this isn't the last of the Zorn Warriors. I fell in love with a secondary character, Vinlotti, and I am overly hopeful that he will receive a book of his own soon.
I liked this one a lot! I loved how the heroine, Shanna, wouldn't go down with out a fight! Usually I'm not a fan of the 'kick-ass' heroine, but I found Shanna very relatable! I have really enjoyed this whole series. I LOVE the super alpha growling possessive hero's!!! I hope this series continues!
Meh. Once again, we see the native females both portrayed in a negative light, and forced out of their home by a human woman.
So the h is kidnapped by a related humanoid species from another planet and taken to Zorn to be sold as a sex slave. Only, the leader of the planet immediately banned the keeping of earthling females as slaves - marry them or else. Which would be fine except that the h latches on to him and he just happens to be already married. Uhhh... So eventually, the h confronts his wife and challenges her for the right to be married to him. Wins too. I'm just... the parts in between are problematic. First off, the h, after finding him in bed with all 6, yes; 6, of his house helpers, says she's not going to let him touch her. He then proceeds to tie her up. The helpers threaten her. He makes all sorts of promises he's not in position to keep, she then LETS him and... He's surprised that his house helpers attack her. So is she, for that matter.
Am puzzled at the paradox that is the female physician. Females have no rights, no freedom, so how is she a Dr?
Very pleasantly surprised after I really disliked the 3rd in the series. If I hadn't already purchased this I might not have gone back to this series and that would have been a shame. Much better plotting. Good characterization. Even though the action happened over just a few days, the emotions seemed real. Berr was so unhappy in his marriage that he was ripe for a relationship with a decent woman. And I believed in her feelings for him because he was such a great guy, decent honorable and hot, really what's not to love. He has been my favorite of the males in this series. The conflict of misunderstandings caused by their two different cultures was pretty well done and the ultimate conflict was true to the culture and the personalities set up over the series. I hope there will be more books in the series.
I didn't really like Berr in the first three books, he certainly changed my opinion in this one! Berr is now one of my favourite's in this series. It was great to see a kickass heroine as well. Great couple and great storyline. I really hope there will be more in this series.
Felt a little better about the beginning of this book than the rest of them, but by the end it was just as bad... worse actually. The dichotomy of the respect for personhood between the Zorn women and human women was hideous. Nothing got better by the end of the series either.
He might think she’s playing but she’s trying to teach him a lesson. She’s not sure if she wants to fight her feelings for the sexy alien, though if a woman has to lose a battle, this just might be the one time to concede. ______________________ In the last book, we readers got a little look at what Berr's wife is really like. shes a mean cold-blooded son of a bitch who has no emotions what so ever for her sons or Berr. all she cares about is her repuatation. Well im so glad Berr's ganna find true love in this book! he deserves better than his wife. We learned in this book that Berr and his bond mate broke up in a way and she went to her true love, but when her mate wanted to kill him he had to protect himself and kill her mate, thus making her mad and she demanded him to bond to her again as punishment for the rest of his life. Ral and Ariel have their first child, its a girl and they named her Destiny. i love the part in this book where Shanna challenges Berr's bound to the death, and she ends up kicking the Vorn lady's ass. well, she did take boxing lessons and all so that was a bonus for her, and at the end she didnt kill the lady but just made her uncoiuncess for a few minutes. So now Berr accepts her as his bound mate and everyones happy....well most anyway. i love love love Vinlotti in this book. he is one of berr's closest friends and makes this book more funnier. in the end everyones happy and Shanna and Berr even plan to have their own little minion kids :)
This was another great addition to the Zorn Warriors series. I absolutely loved it! Berrr was an amazing hero. I loved that he constantly did what was necessary to keep Shanna feeling secure and safe. If he didn't understand something in how humans thought or what they needed, he would consult with one of his sons and their wives. This was not fraught with constant misunderstandings and conflict between the H/H. Once they really accepted each other, it was just a matter of getting the rest of the puzzle pieces to fit. I loved how tough she was and how she did not back down from a fight. He was appropriately strong and He-man tough but so beautifully sweet and tender. They were a perfect match for each other. Lots of "awww" moments to swoon at. And plenty of Grrrreat warrior lovin too.
I got a feeling there could be some new stories about these wonderful warriors. However, the main family seems to be all dialed in now. So I'm curious if the author is ending this or if she will continue to write more delicious stories in the series. I truly hope so because they are wonderful and we aren't ready to say goodbye to them quite yet!
I absolutely LOVED this series. I started reading it two days ago and went on a marathon of reading all books available. I checked the author's site and there looks to be more books to be added! I hope the next book is on Vhon, the youngest brother, and the following is on Coto, Rever's bestie and almost-adopted like son to Berr.
My favorite of the series, would still have to be Book One, "Ral's Woman", though. It was the most interesting and kept me wanting more. I think what sold me was the beginning after Ariel was deemed unfit to breed with the alien race that had kidnapped her from Earth and then she is then out off for auction in front of another alien race that was also enslaved. The only catch of course, is that in this "auction," warriors have to battle each other in order to win Ariel.
Enter, Ral, whom you find out is the first born son and heir to the kingdom of Zorn. Ral, spots Ariel and enters the competition to win her as his own. He wins her and the story is set. Only, when Ral and his race escape capture and return back to his planet, his father (the ruler of Zorn) isn't too pleased with his choice of bound.
SO, MOVING ON....
I also liked "Tempting Rever," as I was curious as to how things would pan out since Rever had already bounded himself to a human woman but later falls in love with another human woman who's warrior had died in a rebellion on the ship that Rever was on. The woman though is already spoken for as her as now she is set to now become the bound of her dead bound's brother! Aish.
As for "Kidnapping Casey" and "Berr's Arrow," they were just okay. Enjoyable but rather not as pleasing as books one and three for me. I can't wait for the next installments!!
This is by far my favorite of the Zorn Warrior books. The father of the 3 previous brothers that I’ve read has finally met a human that he wants. I think what I loved most about Berrr falling for a human was his initial reactions to his sons taking a human female as a mate. He has always seen any female as weak, he believes human females are even weaker. He even feels that they will weaken his royal/elite bloodline when his sons start having children. Oh yes, karma found Berrr.
Shanna has had a rough life. Her life becomes even rougher when she is abducted by aliens to be auctioned off as a sex slave. She has never had anyone to protect her from the sometime cruel life fate can give. This life has made her tough. This life has given her the necessary skills to defend herself and knock Berrr flat on his ass.
Berrr has an intense blend of nurturing caring male with his alpha planet ruler persona that all must concede too. He only wants to keep Shanna safe. He has quickly come to see her as much more than a weak human. The biggest problem for Berrr and Shanna is the person who almost see’s to her death. I loved this conflict. At many times it seems impossible for Berrr and Shanna to get to their much desired happily ever after. I don’t want to give too much away with how the conflict works out, but it was perfect.
I can’t wait for more books to come out in this series. I love these Zorn males! I just have to decide which one of Laurann’s other series I will be moving onto next. Her Cyborg Seduction or her New species series. If anyone has an opinion on that please feel free to tell me.
4 1/2 starsThis is book four in the Zorn Warriors series, and in this book we get Berr's story(who is the father of the previous books H's). Shanna was kidnaped from earth and was about to be sold till Berr found out and stopped it. Frightened Shanna doesn't want to go with anyone but Berr, and Berr agrees deciding that she can be a house help. But Shanna has no idea what a house helper is and what their job entails from here a misunderstanding threatens to force them apart just as their feeling are starting to grow. Though Berr is married he hasn't seen his wife for ten years and has no way to divorce his wife. So Shanna and Berr find their own relationship and all is well till Berr's wife comes with the intention of hurting Berr though Hurting Shanna, Now Shanna and Berr have to find a way to not only stay together but keep Shanna alive. This was a great book it seems everything Laurann Dohner writes is amazing and engrossing. This is yet again a great story with not only great main charters but side characters who I hope to see in the future. We also get a glimpse in some of the previous characters from this series. One of the best thing I can say is that I finished this book to fast and was sad to see this book end, I can't wait till we get book five.
If you haven’t been reading the Zorn Warrior series by Laurann Dohner, run and go get them right now. I’ll wait. Okay. They are so well written. Dohner is clearly a master at her craft. She seamlessly weaves together science fiction with the erotic in such a way that you don’t even realize what she’s done, which is to create a truly unique world that is so good you wish you could live in it.
Hyvin Berrr, leader of the Zorn Warriors, isn’t thrilled that three of his sons have Bonded with human women. Its not personal, he’s just more concerned about their bloodline and whether they can produce suitable heirs.
But then he meets Shanna and all of his reservations go out the window. Shanna is a wonderful character. She is a woman who has been victimized but refuses to be a victim herself.
I really loved this book and I highly endorse not only this book but the whole series.
Finished this one yesterday.... I'm glad to say that by the end of the series I was really into these books... The writing is still very (????), but I like the characters as long as you don't go outside the box of this is a book because I'm sorry kidnapped by aliens I'd be more like the woman in this book than any other.... fight or kill me. I do find it amusing that the women are still very ... let's just say this book is not about the diversity of the human population. I'd love to see a computer geek, doctor, heck a military opperative get taken.
I see the authors progression and maybe it still the blond thing, or none of the girls have been particularly smart, and there is that whole color/racial "really!" thing... but the storyline does have wicked potential. By the end my brain was coming up with all kinds of ways this story can go.
4.5 stars. This book by far for me was real good. Finally the Father, how curious he was about the human females. Well he finally met his match "Shanna", he wanted her from the moment in that alley, but he couldn't because he was mound to an evil wench, that was looking for revenge. Oh how he wanted to try every memorable encounter with her. Love the challenge between Arwin and Shanna. Loved how Berr was standing behind Shanna and wanted her to have his children. Shanna went through hell from foster care to wife beating husband; but she fell in love with a separated man. Great Ending. Bravo to Ms. Dohner a job well done. Loved the series. Please keep them coming.
It's been pretty much a while since the last time I touch this series and gosh, I miss it! I miss Laurann Dohner's style of writing and with this book I was like, finally.
I love how fierce Shanna is. Even though we all know how everything will end up, especially with Dohner's Alpha Male, it's refreshing to read strong heroine. Berrr's definitely a classic Dohner's hero. Love his generosity and his protective stunts.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more! ❤
I loved this one as well, the first couple books were good and I enjoyed them but the last 2 were just awesome:) I didnt think I really liked Berrr all that much until this book, and I loved Shana and the fact no matter what she stayed strong and never gave up!
Its safe to say that Laurann Dohner is one of my favorite authors!
Another great addition to the Zorn Warrior's series. One thing that I really enjoyed was how kick ass Shanna was. Most of Laurann Dohner's heroines are awesome but tend to be soft, gentle and a bit submissive. Shanna didn't take no shit from anyone especially Berrr and I loved it. You go girl.
Hope to get more books in this series...there is still Vhon who is single (hint hint).
