Noah Drake And The Dragon #1

Noah Drake And The Dragon Killer

Rate this book

Noah Drake dreamed of the day he could dig up dinosaur bones and strike it rich. That is until he discovered a real dinosaur while on vacation with his family. But his dream of fame and fortune stirs up trouble when he meets a couple of dinosaur hunters. Will Noah get the desires of his heart or will he save a dinosaur from extinction?

Noah Drake And The Dragon Killer is a middle grade to young adult story that teaches creation, discusses what happened to the dinosaurs, supports family values and sneaks in salvation. Your kids and grandkids will love it! (Even grandparents love it!)

If you like Jonathan Park, you'll love Noah Drake!

This series was inspired, in part, by the Jonathan Park audio book series. My family and I enjoy Jonathan Park and I wanted to create something as fun and powerful, but perhaps not so power packed with information. I'd rather focus on a few subjects and chew on them a bit more.

This series is also influenced by the teaching of Dr. Kent Hovind. He has kindled much of my interest in creation and a lot of Hovind's materials are available online for free!

Ben Russell is creator of CreationTales.com and author of "Noah Drake And The Dragon Killer". He's not a scientist or a doctor of history; he's just a guy that's interested in those subjects. He's very interested in the teaching of creation. His inner child gets excited about dinosaurs and the idea that they're not millions of years old. He despises the theory of evolution, believing it helped turn our society against God. Ben is a family man. He and his lovely wife have four happy kids and they make their home among the roaming hills of the Missouri Ozarks.

Do you think that human beings have ever actually seen dinosaurs? Is it even possible that there are dinosaurs alive today? Noah Drake lives with his dad John, mom Marie, younger brother Nathan, and little sister Norah. Noah is really into learning about dinosaurs. His favorite new video game is “Dinosaur Farm.” The Drakes are headed for a vacation with Dad’s brother, Uncle Jim, on Lake Champlain, where a Loch Ness type of sea monster named Champ reportedly lives. Unfortunately, Edwin Slaughter and his grandson Frankie are also going to Lake Champlain to kill the sea monster and make a lot of money with it. Will Noah get to see a real dinosaur? Or will the Slaughters hunt the dinosaur to extinction?

Noah Drake and the Dragon Killer is a great story for middle grades to young adults. While the plot itself is fictional, the book supports family values, discusses what happened to the dinosaurs, makes a good case for creationism, and even points out the need for forgiveness of sin. There are a few childish slang terms, probably to make it sound realistic to the targeted age group. The Drake children are homeschooled and study young earth creationism, but Dad isn’t fully convinced that the earth is only 6,000 years old rather than millions of years, as he has always been taught. Perhaps he may be persuaded in a future volume. I will agree with the observation that kids, grandkids, and even grandparents will love it. And they are probably looking forward to the sequel.

"Noah Drake and the Dragon Killer" is a Christian middle grade adventure novel. The story follows a family during their eventful vacation to Lake Champion, where some of them see the local sea monster (Champ) and encounter some dragon hunters. Noah would love to capture Champ--like on a video game he plays--but the dragon hunters are out to kill Champ for fame and fortune. The "good guy" main characters were engaging while the "bad guy" characters were largely comical.

Several characters were Christians who believed that God created dinosaurs about 6,000 years ago and that we knew them by the name "dragons" until the 1800s. There was also a simplified explanation of why a character didn't believe in evolution. There was no sex, gore, or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this fun, engaging story.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the author.

This one just wasn't my style. I applaud the strong creation message, although I did get tripped up by the fact that some of it came through the main villain of the story. Noah's obsession with dinosaurs felt true-to-life, and the tie in to "monster" sightings was believable. But some parts of the story really challenged my suspension of disbelief (specifically the number of sightings in such a short time of an animal who's been the stuff of legend for centuries) and the writing style was a lot simpler and had a lot more telling than I prefer.

Content--people threatened with guns; mentions of stealing; some semi-crude comments

Mid school creationism...that's how they sold the evolution fable. Maybe it will work here also?

The book targets very young children. I'd like to see some YA on the topic. Maybe as his kids grow up?
But it's a fun fairly believable tale. I enjoyed it.

Great book honestly super entertaining and easy to follow story line. Great descriptive settings helping the reader truly immerse in the story feeling like you on a family vacation with the drakes. Truly exciting and the ending left nothing to be desired. Highly recommend

I read this book because Ben entered it into a giveaway I organised (and his name is Mr B. Russell, which I think is quite possibly the best name for a children's author).

Let's start with the dragon . . . who has a name - Champ. Named after the lake it inhabits where Noah and his family go for a camping trip. This dragon doesn't burn down villages, or sleep on a pile of treasure, or guard a reclusive princess who enjoys having a long naps. This dragon attempts to disprove the theory of evolution.

That's right. A Christian kids fiction book with a dragon? Oh yes!!! And I'm pleased to tell you that it works a treat.

With the help of his uncle Jim, Noah learns about the many mysterious sightings of a 'Loch Ness Monster' creature in the lake. Now, if you were a young lad and your uncle told you about a dinosaur that lived in a lake, what would you do? Go dinosaur hunting? Yep, me too!

I thoroughly enjoyed learning about creationism through this story. A great way for children to learn while reading. Big thumbs up!

Great for all ages

This book is AMAZING. It keeps you in suspense and your attention grabbed all throughout. All the while teaching children about how great God is. I am anxiously awaiting for the 2nd book to come out on e-books.
