Miriam Cait seeks love, or rather, her friend seeks it for her. Her friend’s latest date suggestion is refused on account of his dark eyes. There’s something not quite right with them, and Miriam soon finds out why when he comes knocking on her door, and knocking her out.
Miriam wakes up from the confrontation with more than just a headache. Shackles cover her ankles and wrists, and she’s on her way to being auctioned off to a bunch of self-proclaimed dragon lords. It all seems too fantastic to be real, but as the evidence starts mounting against sanity Miriam realizes she may be in deeper trouble than she thought.

I so loved this book great start to the series Maiden to the Dragon. I so can't wait to read more by Author Mac Flynn, her books are amazing :) *****5 Dragon Stars*****
When will I learn to check the number of pages before getting or starting a book cause this is turning out to be a real pain in the ass.
The potential in this book was staggering and I felt it doubly so cause I was expecting a full length novel and not just a hundred pages.
The one thing that bugged me was the execution. Now this probably happened cause again it was so short but I don't know. If the end result makes your h look flakey, when she's not, instead of rebellious or bad-ass as you were aiming for. I'd say start reconsidering things. Like the length of the book. Hey, it's just a suggestion :p
Not quite sure I'm gonna continue with the rest of the series but rest assured it's only because of the length issue. I like 'em appropriately long xD
Miriam turns a guy down when her friend introduces her to him and later she finds herself kidnapped and in another dimension, being auctioned off to dragon lords.
Xander is a dragon lord, the rule of his world says that human females are taken and brought to his land to be picked as ether mates or servants. Bringing humans to his land helps keep the bloodlines good by bringing in new blood. His own mother was one of these females but he has fond memories of her, she had a good life.
Once the women are rounded up and shown to the dragon lords, they get to pick the females they want but Miriam doesn't make things easy for Xander. She tries to run away and go home only to find out that once you go through the portal, you can never go back or you'll be killed by it. It's a one way trip. Only the kidnappers who are from another world can travel back and forth bringing women when they have a need for new blood.
Miriam and the other women are taken by their new mates and while some of the women are happy with their new lives because they are taken care of very well and will want for nothing, Miriam still wants to go home but she gives Xander a chance.
This book surprised me because Xander and some of the other dragon lords are actually decent people. Xander didn't think it was right that women were kidnapped and brought here against their will but it was the way of his world. He was a nice guy and tried to make sure Miriam was made comfortable and tried to give her what she needed so she could get used to her new home. After a dangerous fight with another dragon, Xander is hurt and we can see that Miriam genuinely cares about him. I thought it was a good first book for this series.
Okay, for starters, I want to strangle Miriam. Talk about an obnoxious, self-centered, disappointing and stupid female protag. I get that the author launched her into this strange new realm. But if you’re going to play in the fantasy sandbox, the least you can do is find a better way of transitioning your characters into it rather than having them behave like a belligerent toddler. I legitimately cannot believe this story was published. Perhaps my literary expectations are too high, but this story seems to cater to the lowest common denominator. I had zero belief in her relationship with Xander, and though the connection between touched upon the slightest literary skill, it was mostly fluff with zero development. Someone please, help this poor author out.
This is a freebie! I quite liked part 1 of this series. Alexandra gets abducted by what she calls "pig men". Herself and other women are taken to another realm where dragons are in need of a mate. There is much more to this story, which I will leave others readers to review. I liked the storyline and the main characters. I believe that this short story is continued in book 2. 4☆
Two quotes, both from the heroine's friend Heather, sum up Caught by the Dragon.
'“What the hell happened?” I whispered. “Why should you care?” Heather called from the kitchen. She picked up our glasses and carried them to the table. “I mean, it’s not like you love the guy, right?”'
THANK YOU, Heather. Indeed - why should she care about the wellbeing of some guy she met like two days ago and had sex with one time?
'“How could I even like him? He had me kidnapped so he could keep up some kind of-” Heather let out a squeal as she plopped herself in the chair beside me.“You wouldn’t be complaining about him if you didn’t like him so much!” she insisted. I blinked at her. “Are you nuts?”'
WHAT THE HELL, Heather? I thought we were on the same page! You don't believe that shit, do you? Human trafficking is not some sweet meet-cute...
Except it actually is here. There's no real sense of fear or danger beyond chapter three. Instead, it's all wholesome and affectionate and magical love. No rainbows or unicorns that I recall, but those kind of vibes.
It's not lacking in potential. I found the heroine's attempts to escape quite amusing - “What I would like is for you to get your wings off me so I can find my clothes and try to escape again.” - Ditto the '“Help! Somebody help! There’s a-um, a badger in here!” Great one, heroine.' I was also amused by the Lady of the Pond. Could she not quite manage a lake? Poor love.
What it is lacking in is two things - linguistic finesse* and time/space to develop believable relationships and fleshed out characters. In that sense, it feels like a lot of the 70s/80s fantasy I read as a kid, only with much less world building.
And there you have it - Caught by the Dragon is a very tame kidnap fantasy with minimal logic and plentiful idealism and instalove. Oh, and virginal heroines. Because, obviously. FFS.
*e.g. "a lapse of bad judgment", "the man who sat in the center of the was about thirty", "I didn't dare breath", "I find it vexing at all that I had to choose a Maiden.", "Would it be any different I would still tell you the truth.", etc.
Unfortunately I have to give a low rating for this book for a couple of reasons - 1. Kidnapping someone, taking away their free will and forcing them into a lifestyle they haven't chosen is beyond wrong to glorify in anyway. Having said that you are given warning that this is the main premise in the book summary so take that seriously. 2. This storyline is not very original. Although I liked the fiesty nature that Miriam had and her repeated attempts at escape, to simply explain this whole new dimension as a portal is very basic. In fact the high handed nature of the dragon world I think would have played better if their was a time element also involved. Most of the elements in the story have been done before - half dragon men, captured women, strange creatures both human and domestic, silent staff and so on. 3. Underdeveloped - this story goes so fast, no time passes at all! I know this is a general fact of most romance novels the circumstances here make this very extreme. For example *spoiler* you want us to believe that she succumbs to her dragon Lord and has sex with him in the first 48 hrs of her arrival? And she was a virgin/maiden prior to that? That when she miraculously returns to her world within 72 hrs (that's one weekend folks!) after being told over and over again it is impossible that she is going to return? That her assumed best friend is going to encourage her to go back and help her in that when she openly acknowledges it may be a form of Stockholm syndrome? Sorry that is the epitome of a bad friend. 4. I was more intrigued by some of the secondary characters then the actual main characters. Such as shy Stephanie and her match... I am more interested to see how that develops then Miriam and Xander's relationship. My conclusion is this - as a standalone novel this is a definite pass however I am hoping that the next installment, book two, will move beyond all these issues and actually develop into something with the continuation of Miriam and Xander's story.
Three and a half My first book by this author and indeed the first in this series about a woman kidnapped and taken to a world inhabited by dragons. When Miriam wakes up she definitely isn't going to make it easy on those who have snatched her away and being marched into some sort of bizarre auction is just the start of Miriam making her presence felt! Not about to go quietly and determined to get back home. I liked the ideas here and particularly found Miriam to be amusing. She's stubborn but not stupid and quickly realises that only by using all her resources can things change. Events happen quickly and the romance with Xander is somewhat peculiar. The dragon Lord that chooses Miriam gets more than he bargained for and certainly their relationship leaps forward physically. So when they are attacked I struggled to quite believe what happened next but it's fantasy so let's be honest anything goes. So the romance here initially didn't grab me but I'm hoping the author will build upon it as Miriams adventures continue. Unfortunately this did seem jumpy at times with words and phrases used that detracted a little but possibly with a different editor it would have been more polished. I'm not sure if I will continue this series and will check reviews to discover if the editing improves.
Oh gosh... Where to start. Idea was brilliant, woman gets kidnapped as a bride to a dragon lord to medieval times. However, this first part was 95 pages long and included everything from kidnapping to falling in love, espacing and saving her dragon lord. So you can imagine how rushed, short and unbelieveable everything was. The insta-romance in this books was even more short than normally and when our main heroeine returns home her "best-friend" pushes her back to where she was abducted in the first place and says this Stockholm-syndrome love-story is real and she should follow her heart.. I mean what?!
Being kidnapped and shackled is never going to be acceptable for me that's why I didn't like Mac Flynn's Caught By The Dragon initially. The more I read, the less I liked. Poor character development, lack of a plot, grammatical errors and the extreme yawnfest literally put me to sleep. After I woke from my nap I was able to finish the book...barely. It's a short read, mercifully, but still a waste of time except in reassuring me I did not wish to read any further into this series.
I do not recommend, but if you must, proceed with caution. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 1 star.
I should just give up on free ebooks. This, like quite a few others, just wasn’t long enough for me to feel any kind of chemistry between the MC and no where near long enough to believe they’re in love. The premise was good but another couple hundred pages to really flesh out the characters, and why these dragons were taking human women is definitely needed to make this passable. It really felt like a long prologue and I’m very surprised at how many 4+ star rating there are.
Ugh the awful books continue. No matter what happens, kidnapping people and disregarding their former life can never be made okay, and there's no way these women should accept that. Did they have nothing to live for? And the smugness of the kingdom that it is okay to do so - too enraging for me to get into the story.
Mac Flynn's "Caught by the Dragon: Maiden to the Dragon" was a very fast read, but did have several grammar, punctuation, spelling, and continuity error's in it. For instance, within the first several pages, Flynn inadvertantly used the word 'catch' when she obviously meant 'cash', and when the taxi driver alerted protagonist Miriam and her friend Heather that they were being followed by a red car, a few paragraphs later while the girls were hiding in an alley, a black car sped past. It was still a cute, fast read with loads of offbeat and backhanded humor in it. And humor is a good thing, especially when the tale begins with captive women being forced into servitude that is suppose to be an honor. Miriam handled her captivity in her own snarky way while ultimately delighting her new dragon lord, Xander.
Flynn has an almost 'folksy' sounding voice that truly invites a reader to follow along and see what might lie ahead. She also uses nice descriptive imagery in setting up her scenery which allows a reader to visualize where they are; however, the character's could have used a bit more descriptors in this readers opinion. While the dragons were easily visualized, the human forms were a little tougher to bring to mind. Dialogue was believable and authentic to each character; this reader really loved the 'attitude' Miriam always presented, more so than the temperament secondary character Olivia had shown.
This story is a stand alone, but the first in a series which will apparently continue on with Miriam and Xander's adventure. It was a fairly simple and uncomplicated read. The sex scenes were sensual and this reader loved the idea of the male dragons scent glands, similar to pheremone producing. Even with the editing errors found, this reader enjoyed the tale and will recommend this first tale of the series.
Chained, shackled and kidnapped by pig men to be presented as mafias to the dragon lords in another realm that’s cast in the medieval times. Pulled from her normal life Miriam desires to escape and run home but her dragon lords not gunna let that happen.
Took me blearily a morning to finish this book which was sad as it has a nice simple plot to it. It’s a simple read as the slight troubles are and were easy to resolve. It’s set in the medical times which is pleasant and give the story a nice feel to the magical creatures and environment.
Though the sudden change in Miriam’s attitude towards the dragon lord after she goes home is odd and slightly confusing after she was so adamant to go home to suddenly being in love with the lord. -though I may be looking into that a little to much.
As well as them having intercourse because of his dragon glands smelling nice straight after she was trying to escape. Then she wasn’t even mad afterwards for him basically drugging her with his sent ...sounds a little odd right 😅
Though I did very much enjoy the way she kept trying to escape showing a strong confident woman. Though after what she said to the other girls in the van- ‘we need to stick together’ I was surprised to find that there was no affection or worry about them when she was trying to escape.
I’d say in a few places that more development was much needed but it had a plain simple storyline.
Over all a mild book good for people who like relaxing books and a fast book to read.
It’s a series so there are more books to read and it’s only done in one perspective-Miriam. So if this book do very much take ur fancy then you have more to read .

1.5 stars. The only reason why I don't give 1 star is because the writing style and the world building were nice, also I managed to read it until the end. But the good things end here. The plot and the behaviour of the various characters made no sense. The "romance" made no sense whatsoever. The friend of the heroine has an obsession in trying to hook her up with some random person of the male species, (that's already wrong, because ladies can be very happy and single, thank you very much) ... but when the heroine runs away from the Dragonland and goes back to planet Earth, her friend, instead of protecting the heroine and telling her to punch the next dragon she sees sniffing around her, she tells her to go back to the people who kidnapped her, because so she can hook up with her dragon? I mean, seriously? This takes Stockholm syndrome to a whole new level, when not only the victim, but even her friends get under it... When I finished the book I was left with only one thought in my mind... "what the heck did I just read?" Luckily this is not the first book I read by this author, so I know she can write nice stories that can make actual sense...

Five women are kidnapped by pig faced men and are dragged through a portal to an alternate universe or reality, where dragon shifters live. Once they pass through the portal, they can never get back to the modern earth, if they try, the portal will disintegrate them. Miriam is so violent and rebellious towards the captors that they refuse to unshackle or untie them. They are dragged to the great hall where they will be chosen as maidens for the dragon kings. Teen Stephanie was the first to be offered up and Miriam volunteered to take her place. Miriam was branded with her kings seal so that if she ever tried to escape, she would be quickly returned to him. Xander is her maybe mate. When he wraps himself about her, she can smell lavender and grass, he tells her that means she likes him. He mates with her and drives her wild. Will they stay happy, or will she find the right way to escape back to her own reality?
I really enjoyed this story, though I felt that there were places the storyline lacked development. The character development was very well done and I really like those involved. However, there were times that the characters seemed to jump to quickly into sex, fighting, or emotions without the necessary process of storyline. Despite this, I really appreciated and enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. I am interested in the subsequent books in the series. The book was very well written with few issues or things I would change. My biggest complaint is that it rushes through the two main characters getting to know each other and creating a bond, the fight scene and an explanation of why they were fighting or the background of those who were attacking, and then the rushed return of the Maiden and ending to the book. All that said, I would still give it a high rating and encourage others to read it.
Kidnapped from your own home and drugged, wake finding yourself with a group of women with similar stories, told you would be sold but if no one wanted you... you would be a servant for the rest of your life... BUT you could never return back to your world ..trying would mean your death. Agreeing to be chosen by the high lord so another scared young woman (who you thought a different young Lord liked ) would have a chance to be chosen by the young man. Being attacked, falling back to you're world then facing the fact that you're Lord is likely dying. What would you do? Stay safe in your world or risk your life trying to find a way back. This was fun.
Miriam and 4 other ladies were kidnapped and taken to a different dimension. There they were taken to be Dragon maidens ( mates for men that can turn into dragons ). Miriam mates with the main Dragon and received a mark or tattoo. When Xander is fighting some other dragons she is accidental pushed back into her dimention. She feels his pain through the mark and returns to save him from dying.
Really quick and kind of strange but overall light hearted and fun. Miriam's personality didn't fade into submission as the book wore on and she made for a strong and interesting protagonist. The plot was unexpected and refreshing and I'll definitely be reading the sequels
The reason I love paranormal, fantasy or just plain shifter stories is because they are often so romantic and fantastic that you can just let yourself get sucked in this book was no different. Xander and Miriam's is not like one I've read before, it had so many twist and turns it wasn't so predictable. I loved this book!! I hope you enjoy this sexy dragon and his mate!! Happy reading!!!!
I enjoyed the book, despite what to me, was a huge drawback -- first person viewpoint. It was humorous in places and a solid read, if some what lacking in descriptions and emotional depth. If not for the sex, it'd make a far better high school read then adult.
I really would have liked this book more if it was the full story. I really hate reading books in sections. It was free so I don't mind that it wasn't the whole story. I might get the others and finish the story. I did like the characters, was not a fan of the kidnappings though, and the story line was good
Wow fantastic book! It has everything lots of drama, excitement, fighting, kidnapped girls! Dragon shifters, hot steamy loving! Travel thru a portal (not once, not twice, but three times!) sea creatures, true love, and friendship. What more could you need! Excellent plots leaves you wanting more! Loved it!
I love this plot that puts Dragons, not extinct, or other, but themselves in a different dimension. It is such a beautiful idea that there are worlds next to ours. All different, whether as in time/era or space. Only a believer can grasp the beauty in the theory!! Reccomend whole heartedly!
