All About Martin Luther King, Jr.

Rate this book
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most influential leaders in the Civil Rights Movement. Influenced by Gandhi, Thoreau, and Jesus, he used nonviolent resistance to become a social activist. Martin led civil rights marches and gave powerful and influential speeches, like his I Have a Dream speech at the March on Washington. Martin hoped that all people would come together for freedom and equality. Martin's work towards equality would eventually become law, such as the legal end of racial segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of all Americans and will forever be an American hero.

Nonfiction/Twin Text Entry #4

The genre of this book is nonfiction/biography/history. The chapters are each named based on a significant time period or place from Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and tell about his influence and leadership in the Civil Rights Movement.

I paired this book with the chapter book called, "Bud, Not Buddy," by Christopher Paul Curtis. This book's genre is historical fiction. I chose this book because I remember reading this book in elementary school and learning about the Great Depression and racism, and also learning about Martin Luther King Jr.'s influence on the world today.

"All About Martin Luther King, Jr." may be best suited for students at a 3rd grade reading level. "Bud, Not Buddy" may be best suited for intermediate grade levels, as it is a chapter book and may contain words and concepts that children in primary grade levels may not yet be able to fully grasp.
