This book has completely transformed my understanding of pain. The insights offered here have proved invaluable in putting my experiences with chronic pain over the last few years into perspective. It's allayed much of the frustrations I've had after seeing numerous specialists who've largely been unable to identify physical causes for my pain. Having a carefully detailed explanation provided here of why this is, due to the malfunction of the body's pain system, finally made things click into place. Dr Kuttner does an excellent job of unpacking the medical concepts in a manner suitable for the layman to understand. It's an engaging read.

Several accounts of Dr Kuttner's patients' experiences implementing each of the six (6) keys are provided. I found they served well to illustrate the effectiveness of each of the keys in practice. I've had moments over the last month where it's felt like my progress has been minimal. However, it is important to adopt an attitude of mindfulness, and recognize that success with these methods will take consistent effort over time. This was something that was conveyed well by the authors.

I took one star off this review because my copy had several typographical and formatting errors interspersed throughout. It didn't detract a great deal from the overall reading process, but it is a quality control matter that needs to be addressed. Also, please note that this book is also published under the title 'Life After Pain: Break Free of Chronic Pain and Get Your Life Back' - which is the copy I have. I'm not sure where there are two different titles, but from what I understand the content is the same.

I have had chronic pain for 9 years and have read MANY books and tried MANY, MANY solutions and therapies. This humble book is giving me hope. Backed by current science, Dr. Kuttner explains what is happening in my body, both in my muscles and my brain, and it makes complete sense. While not every one of the 6 Keys resonates with me, several of them I am already incorporating into my thinking and my physical activities. The Breathing section alone has had a measurable effect on my pain level. Measurable as in less pain medication.
The bonus materials on his website are a rich treasure trove of additional value, so don't skip exploring those!

Life-Enhancing and Changing

I’ve been struggling along with chronic aches and pains in my back, shoulders, etc. for decades. I was intrigued by the title but sceptical.

However, I gave it a read and applied all the tools. I’m really glad that I did and I now find that the previously intense pain has mostly melted away. The tools and techniques in this book actually work if you are dedicated enough to put them into practice.

Really worth a read if you suffer from chronic pain. You will certainly have your eyes opened!

This book saved my life. I suffered from severe pelvic pain to the point of feeling incredibly suicidal and being hospitalized for severe depression. Thank you Jonathan for this book. I now understand pain and what I can control and have in fact been pain free for years. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I always read these cheaper ebooks with a grain of salt. But I reason that I usually get one or two pieces of wisdom from them, and that makes it worth the reading time. One such wisdom is Kuttner's advice to, once your pain has become chronic, stop favoring that body part and instead move in a natural way, so your body gets the chance to recondition itself. Another bit of advice is to find more time to meditate, which helps bring up old emotions so you can deal with them, with the idea that subconscious emotions are often the cause of pain.

Not a classic by any means, but worth a read for those who want to investigate ways to deal with physical pain.
