Think with Me: Fundamentals for Making Our Country Ideal

Rate this book
“When we see the problems related to political leadership, population growth, education, the media and religion going from bad to worse, a natural question comes up in our minds. Where, after all, did we go wrong? What happened during our democratic journey of independent India that we are faced with nasty problems on all these fronts? Why couldn’t we teach people occupying places of responsibility that rights are given to perform your genuine duties, not to serve your personal whims, false ego and greed?”

It is the author’s firm belief that if the problems related to the above five fundamental issues continue to be as they are, the nation will be hit by a crisis of unimaginable proportions, our national edifice would crumble and everything that our leaders had valued and held sacred for the love of the country before independence, would be lost forever. So, the author, through a deep-seated and thought provoking commentary on these issues invites you to think along with him and ponder over them honestly and sincerely. While going through the book, you may come across points where you differ with the author but in the end, you will be convinced that to make our country ideal, the need is for a wider awakening on the issues as discussed in the book.

‘Think With Me’ is written with the thought of inciting the citizens of India to think of their country, rise above from individual benefits, rise from ‘I’ and ‘My’ and think for the development of the country. The author wants to insight the challenges the country is currently facing.

Author, as a countryman, finds his emotional and moral responsibility to bring attention to these problems which he thinks is the five fundamental issues needs to be resolved for the development of the country and betterment of its citizens. The five fundamental problems are related to politics, leadership, population growth, education, the media, and religion. The author wants his every sincere and respectable countryman to ponder over where, after all, ‘did we go wrong?’

Yes, in past decade India has shown a tremendous pace in growth and among one of the fastest developing nations. But, these issues need an immediate attention. There are laws made in regard but mere making laws do not solve the problems; they need strict implementation and amelioration of them and above all, the participation from the countrymen.

He is worried looking at the growing corruption in the politics and irresponsible behaviors of the politicians, the degraded standard of education which only imparts a degree and not making a better human, the speed of populations’ growth which only flights every year despite the laws and efforts not yielding any results, the role of media in society and religion which is considered an important arm of the society.

He discussed the issues at length in his book and wants everyone and not just readers and those who are occupying the higher posts of leadership and decision-making to think with him and act before it is getting too late. He suggests some solutions which could be implemented for the benefit and prosperity of the nation. He is not writing this book to agree with him, he wants to bring in light the issues and compels to think deep and justifiably. It is an honest effort by the author to fulfill his duty as a citizen of the country and made a collective effort with the people of his beloved country.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I admired how “Subrata Roy Sahara” popularly known as Saharasri, has wonderfully described his thoughts. The author is a well-established corporate tycoon and during the bad phase of his life in Tihar, he thoroughly analyzed the scenario of the country, its alarming situations, and created an engaging discussion through his book.

‘Think With Me’ focuses on the fundamental issues of our democracy i.e. Politics, Electoral System & Leadership, Population, Education System, Media and Religion.

The author, as a responsible countryman has courageously analyzed today’s leadership quality in politics, he appealed to the people of India holding higher position in politics to think beyond their :- I, My , We and look forward as “WE ALL”. The book flawlessly explained what a true leadership should be. Some of the thoughts given in the book are really convening. We can also apply these thoughts in our daily life for better approach.

The book wonderfully explained different phase of life in this modern era with beautiful quote from Gita:- “Do your duty, never think of the result” but how it has changed in the modern era with the people demands and wishes:-“why should I not think of the fruits or the result? It is not possible for a man just to work and not to think of its fruits.”

All the issues raised by the author are flawlessly described with appropriate solutions. Thus as a reader, I am simply influenced with the author’s opinions. I feel the solutions and suggestion given here are really thinkable. One should really considering reading this book once. Though, topics of the book may not interest few of us but the way author has presented is really absorbing.

Reading non-fiction books give me a different kind of satisfaction because may be a reader won’t learn anything after reading a fiction but a non-fiction book surely adds something to our knowledge. Even if the book is unable to provide any knowledge, it at least changes or builds our opining towards something. Last time when I had picked the book written by one of the most eminent personalities of India, ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara, Life Mantras, I was really happy with the kind of insight he had provided on various subjects. It was the 1st book in the Trilogy of “Thoughts from Tihar”. The book also turned out to be a Bestseller and readers liked it very much.

I just picked the 2nd book in the same trilogy named Think With Me which also has the tagline “Fundamentals for making our country ideal”. I assumed that the book will consist of each sentence being very meaningful as it has to speak everything in just 100 pages. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed after reading this book. It seems just because author wanted to continue writing in the same trilogy, he purposely added this book by scribbling various thoughts in his mind he had for political leadership, population growth, education, the media and religion in just 15 days.

The solutions that the author has provided aren’t really impressive and effective. He has sounded very childish in the opinions that he has given because they are so obvious that almost 90% Indians have the same on the respective topics. After that the corrective measures that he has shared with us is also silly most of the times which are not possible to be implemented. The thing for which Chetan Bhagat is regularly trolled; Subrata Roy Sahara has repeated the same in this book. In comparison to his first book in this trilogy, this book is nowhere close. I give this book just 2.5 stars out of 5. Thankfully, the book is not much thicker and I was able to complete it within 2.5 hours itself. Hope the author will bounce back with the last book in the trilogy. Looking forward to it.

Thanks.

Think With Me is a book written for the masses. One does not see a remarkable application of language or even effective use expressions. It is one man thinking aloud and sharing his views on how India can be a better country. I would not give a pound of my flesh to own this book, but some sections of the book did draw me out of my comfort zone and left me pondering. For example I may not totally agree with the description of ‘Categories of People’ in the first chapter, but I found this an eye opener. Definitely there is a lot of value in understanding how we intend to co-exist on the planet and what priorities we make.

Some of the ideas shared in the book are not researched and often one wonders if he is suggesting creating a stronger daemon to kill an already powerful daemon, for example his idea of a 'NDMP' (Nominated Deputy Member of Parliament), Suggestions related to 'Ideal Family', the whole idea of 'National Religion' etc.

One would expect more clarity in the chapter on 'Media' from the author, who owns his own print and media companies. However this chapter mentions nothing much about Sahara print and media philosophies. However authors ideas are valuable, though not well researched.

It is not a book which gives answers, it is more a book that sets you thinking and lets you become original with it. I appreciate the author's choice of some most touchy topics of India, today and all the way since independence, and his effort to suggest solutions. I would suggest reading this because it gives the reader a desire to think more, if not with the author, due to him

I was surprised to see the facts as it looked like a book about something else but after reading I found about different facts. It is filled with information about a lot of history of our country. It is good to know all the facts and information but it could have been more interesting. It becomes a little boring in between. Overall, not a bad book. There are 5 parts in the book and some of them are interesting to read. I enjoyed the media which tells about the role of newspapers and other media channels.

Some of the facts are quite shocking and I am not sure if these have been properly researched. This type of books makes you think hard about your country. I got influenced and I am sure people reading it will be influenced too.
I got this book from Writers melon for a review.

I agreed to review Think With Me, the second instalment in his Thoughts from Tihar, because I hoped to see some level-headed arguments from this well-read man. But Think With Me is a resounding disappointment.

There are many things that I disagree with in the book. And to see such shocking statement coming from a “responsible” person as Sahara is heartbreaking. He goes to the extent of saying that we have a “bad quality” population. It’s people we are talking about, not apples. And he also says that the low quality population and the part of the population that’s below poverty line is an ‘obstacle’ towards economic development. Sahara needs to understand that many-a-times, it is not due to lack of hard work that people are where they are, but because of circumstances which are beyond our reach.

Some points he’s trying to put across may be relevant, but the sentences come across as rather brash. But others are downright thoughtless and insensitive. For example, this set of lines:
"Even if I had produced 10 children, I would have given those many good citizens to the country because God has given me the financial and social capability to do so. We stopped at two but on the other hand, around 10 children are being born to single parents on the roads and in slums."

It is so disheartening to see that “responsible” people like Sahara think of the homeless and slum-dwellers this way. Like I said before, many-a-times, people are not in a situation because they want to be there. But because they are helpless and cannot do anything.

He does have a few valid points, though.
• “Rights are given to perform your genuine duties, not to serve personal whims, false ego, and greed.”
• He points out what’s wrong with the education system. And that is true, irrespective of whether or not I, as a reader, agree with it.
• Being a teacher post-Independence, even in these modern times, does not command the respect it deserves.
• “Literacy gives you a job but not a level of competence.”
• He makes an excellent suggestion that companies could be given tax benefits/rebates to develop and maintain an online education system.
• “The prime focus of media should be to promote all-round social welfare, rather than indulge in commercialism or mere sensationalizing of news.”
• “Space consumed by negative news should never be more than the space consumed by positive news.”
• “Media often tends to come across as the worst enemy of the society.”
• “Religion is the performance of duties and not rituals.”
Think With Me is a book written with good intentions, but it is a little hypocritical, and in the process, comes out with such absurd statements that seem not-thought-through that it is difficult to actually want to read the book. Just for the positive points mentioned above, I give it 2 stars (since 1.5 is not an option here), though I wouldn’t really recommend this book.

“Think with Me – Fundamentals for making our country ideal” is Subrata Roy‘s second book of the “Thoughts from Tihar” trilogy. The book is divided into 5 topics – Electoral System & Leadership, Population, Education System, Media, and Religion. The writer elaborated on the problems we Indians are facing at present and tried to give some solutions for those problems in this book.

I agreed on the points writer raised on Electoral System and Leadership. A narrow minded person can never make a good leader. And our current electoral system helps flourish corruption and corrupted people. He repeatedly mentions about the five categories of emotional sphere, “I“, “My“, “We“, “We All” and “Us“. He even offered to guide the system if the authority (ever) agrees to implement the solutions he suggested.

I found his opinion on poor population is outright insensitive where he mentioned poor people are responsible for the degeneration of merits and qualifications of India’s entire population. We all know for a fact that lavish upbringing doesn’t ensure someone’s intelligence or make him a good human being. Same way being poor doesn’t mean they can’t be a skilled professional or a good human being or have the emotional sphere of “Us”. No one can deny that our country always depended on efforts and hard works of our poor population. We had great leaders, writers, poets, players, artists, activists, businessmen who belonged to poor families. Most of our security personnel come from poor background and that doesn’t stop them from being brave or skilled fighters. I would like if the writer reconsiders his view on this topic.

The chapter on our Education System is well thought and his solutions are interesting. I will leave it for the readers to find out.

Where I completely agreed with the writer was the chapter of Media. The role of the media houses on nation building is huge. But our media is doing just the opposite these days. He suggested which actions should be taken to stop irresponsible journalism. In my opinion they could be really effective if applied.

Religion has an unavoidable impact on human lives. Our country’s political motto is “Unity in Diversity”. To maintain that, we all need to put extra efforts and keep a peaceful approach to solve the problems sometimes arise due to communal tensions. Otherwise a civil war or riot can break out and destroy our country anytime.

This is the first and only book from the trilogy I have read. It takes longer time for me to read a non-fiction as I give more time to understand the writer’s perspective. One needs to keep in mind that this book contains writer’s own opinion. The solutions he offered not all of them are practical and agreeable. But overall it is a good read.

For someone who has fallen foul of the law, it is ironic that Subrata Roy chose to deal with the topic of nation building. But, this book shows that he does know exactly what has gone wrong with India since Independence. We may or may not agree with his solutions--to each his own.
In the preface, Roy admits that he isn't a subject matter expert. He is simply presenting his ideas and opinions. However, he does include notes in the book clarifying that if he is approached for detailed consultations, he would be happy to oblige.
The book is divided into five sections, covering the Electoral System and Leadership, Population, the Education System, the Media, and Religion. In the opening chapter, Roy posits five categories of human emotional spheres, namely I, We, We all, and Us (where I and We concern only oneself and one's family and We all and Us include one's country and the entire humanity.) He says that "people with confined emotional spheres", when given leadership positions, cause harm to society.
While he does touch upon some pertinent issues (e.g. curbing election expenses, need for stringent laws for population control, interpreting epics in the modern-day context, discouraging negative news reporting) and provides some doable action points, he sounds pompous for the most part.
In the section on Population, Roy suggests providing a whole host of benefits to the "ideal family," (a family with no more than two children). He devotes nearly 6 pages and 28 points to describe the privileges to be given to the ideal family. The idea is good; it is the execution that seems challenging.
In the same section, Roy narrates an incident where the doctor asks him whether he wants "a family-planning operation" to be conducted on his wife, and he "immediately gives his consent." Nowhere does he mention taking the consent of his wife! It may well be a case of poor choice of words, but it appears regressive.
In the section on Religion, Roy talks about the formulation of a "national religion" that is based on the Hindu system of living. To quote the book, "…even for the Muslim brethren, as there is a preponderance of the Hindu system in India, there may be a way of getting long-lasting peace, happiness and satisfaction in abundance within the system." This idea may not go down well with everybody.
Think With Me would have read better with tighter editing to refine the colloquial style of writing. A book that deals with nation building will always have its detractors. However, a book that presents its subject matter in a grandiloquent manner (that also throws in self-praise of Sahara occasionally) may not be widely enjoyed.

I have taken my own sweet time in reading this book just because I somehow did not believe in it.

It is a common habit of people in our society to find faults in everything from condition of roads, education system, population, governance and even how sports are played on field.

Every one is a know all and a preacher. Most of us have many solutions to all the problems that exist in our country but when it comes to following rules, even the simplest rule of wearing a helmet and sticking to the lane while driving are ignored. If after that we are stuck in a traffic jam or somebody dies we blame it on ill-governance by city authorities, on police department for being lax and so on and so forth....Point is nobody stands up to say it was wrong to not follow rules!

I feel this book is of same temperament. This 100 pages book is divided into five sections of Electoral System and Leadership, Population, Education System, Media and Religion. Each segment is further dealt with in detail but the author goes on to tell what all is wrong with various systems. He has mentioned throughout the book " I can personally guide the method". The author comments 'sick mentality' of poor people because they bear more children with the aim of earning more. He goes on to say this and that should be done for population control.

I agree that the problems that he has discussed are real and need a revolution. However I have a limited scope of improving the system and I do that by following rules, by being tolerant and friendly with people of other faiths, by teaching my child that the country should come first...I am vary of preachers though.

I would love to know the contribution that the author has made beyond his organization for each of the system that he has found fault in.

The title of the book is very apt...'Think with me'...yes we need to think and act as per our capability but fault finding and hollow discussions will have no result. Each one of the educated lot needs to take responsibility and follow rules....Look within I would say instead of blaming the system. Rules already exist...why do they need to be more stringent? Why can we not begin with following the existing rules in social and business spheres?

The book is an okay read.

This is second time I am reading Subrata Roy, the first one I have read was also very beautiful book called “Life Mantras”. Now Think with me is very sensitive and bold matter of India being discussed in this book. While going through the book I got to know many mind blogging facts about Indian education system, what was India in olden days and how our education system is affected after Mughal and British ruled India.

The book is divided into five main parts i.e. Electoral system and leadership, Population, Education system, Media and Religion of India. Each and every chapter gives an eye opening revelation of our Indian system also suggestions being provided by the author, which are according to my view some are very much needed like that of education system and sometimes I disagree with the author like that of religion matter.

In electoral system and leadership, our voting system it’s pros and cons being discussed and in leadership, what we expect from our leader being easily discussed by the author. Further I don’t want to revel about other chapters but one of best chapter is about education system where transformation is much needed from grassroots level and I highly agree with the author.

What I liked is the cover of the book where Indian flag is being drawn under the word our country; also book is very clean without any typo mistakes, writing style of the author is very simple and easy to understand. If you have read this book you will know that Subrata roy is very patriotic person and he needs change for the progress of India.

I recommend this book to those who loves to read on politics and also to politicians, for the progress of India.

Title: ‘Think with me: Fundamentals for making our country ideal’
Author: Subrata Roy Sahara
Publisher: Rupa Publications
ISBN: 9788129142252
Pages: 111
Price: 150 INR

“Think with me” is second book by the author in the ‘Thoughts from Tihar’ trilogy. It is written specifically for Indian writers. As the title suggests this book is aimed at presenting to the readers the ‘fundamentals for making our country ideal’.

*About the Author

Subrata Roy Sahara is a prominent figure of corporate India. He is the founder of Sahara India Pariwar. Better known as Saharasi, the author ascribes to the philosophy of Collective Materialism – continuous collective growth for collective sharing and caring. His first book, Life Mantras, was a national best seller & remained in the top 5 best selling books across India for 7 continuous weeks.

*A bold attempt but…

The books deals with 5 major areas responsible for the growth of a nation. These are Electoral System & Leadership, Population, Education, Media and Religion. The author ponders over problems associated with each of these areas and offers solutions for them, following which, according to him, India can be an ideal country.

The book is divided into 5 sections, each one dealing with a particular area. Apart from getting to know the problems and their solutions, we also get to know several shocking facts about the severity of these problems. For instance, in the Population section, the author writes-

“Approximately, 70,000 children are born every day in the country, almost one every 1.25 seconds. … the alarmingly high birth rate requires the additional establishment of 1 lac. primary schools every year. … Where other countries of the world have one doctor for every 50 persons, India has one doctor for every 2,000 people.”

Now I don’t think that mentioning these facts is a big deal. But the thing is that these jaw-dropping facts can compel the readers to think about the problem.

The solution that the author provides for the problem of Population is to extend a number of facilities to families having 2 children, and these families are to be called Ideal Family. It can certainly be helpful to some extent. But he even talks about providing reservation. And that is really insane!

I’m not going to write about each problem over here because that would leave nothing for the book. I agree with the author at some points and do not at others. One of the reasons behind this may be that some of the solutions are hardly pragmatic. In Electoral System & Leadership, he talks about choosing those leaders who have large emotional sphere. He tries to put this concept of emotional sphere in other sections too. But actually, there are no parameters for this thing.

Another thing that I realized is that the author doesn’t explore all the aspects of the problems. He feels that our faulty education system can be corrected by rewriting our epics in modern context. But, in reality, we need a radical change in our education system.

The book ends with a humble appeal by the author, inviting feedback from readers. He is even ready to guide the government in case these solutions are to be followed. There are no acknowledgements given in the book, which made me feel that the author has casually put down his thoughts without much consideration. Also there is not a single example of some place where ideas, similar to the ones that he has provided, were implemented and were successful.

All in all, I feel the author has made a bold attempt but failed to attract readers. Although his efforts are worth an appreciation, but at the end of the book, I was rather disappointed. I would recommend this book, only if you are looking for some time pass read. But, if you think you’ll like it, you can giver it a try. Who knows you may like it.

My Rating: *** (3/5)

About the Author:
Subrata Roy Sahara is a prominent figure of corporate India. He is the founder of Sahara India Pariwar.
The author is very patriotic person and through his book he wants to bring change for the progress of India. The book is divided into 5 main parts, i.e. Electoral System & Leadership, Population, Education System, Media and Religion. His views compel readers to think about the real problems our country is facing and how his bold solutions offered by him can help in making our country ideal. I found these suggestions really good and I think some of you will disagree on that of matter of Religion, etc.
I loved author's view on education system and I highly agree with author's view when he says that education system can be corrected by rewriting our epics in modern context. Because earlier our epics were written, without providing any logical explanations.
Writing style of the author is simple and easy to understand. The book cover is attractive!
All in all, I feel the author has made a bold attempt to bring a much needed good change in our country. I would recommend this book to all my readers.

“Think with me” is the second book written by Subrata Roy Sahara in the ‘Thoughts from Tihar’ trilogy. Subrata Roy Sahara is the founder of Sahara India Pariwar and is a prominent figure of corporate India. It was a delight reading his first book, Life Mantras; a national best seller was also a reader’s delight.
In this book the author is encouraging the citizens of India to think about the development of their country and rise above from our individual benefits. In this process he brings everyone’s attention to the five fundamental issues that needs to be resolved for the development of the country and the betterment of its citizens. The book is divided into five main parts i.e. Electoral system and leadership, Population, Education system, Media and Religion of India. Not only the book emphasizes on the problems and their solutions, it also tells us to about the several shocking facts about the severity of these problems which really compel the readers to think about the problem.
Personally for me this book is worth reading and I would recommend this to everyone who loves to read about the challenges that are being faced by our country.

"Think with me : Fundamentals for making our country ideal" is second book in the "thoughts from Tihar' trilogy by corporate honcho Mr. Subrato Roy Sahara. The author himself is an industrialist who is part of the capitalist world but for writing, he has chosen a subject which every common man of India needs to ponder upon.

The book covers the five fundamental arenas where reforms are genuinely needed for the prosperity of our country. He has chosen to talk on media, education system, religion, population growth and politics.
When the author talks about education system , he mentions that the current education system is failing to produce educated individuals but is generating only literate humans. For him the difference between education and literacy is that education makes individual more compassionate and infuses human values whereas literacy is only generating expertise in subjects that can make individuals earn livelihood. I do agree that today we need educated people more than literate. But I fail to agree that its only the education system that needs a reformation. According to me its the families who raise children are more responsible to shape them, than educationists alone. The author has also talked about how demeaned the profession of a teacher is considered in our country which is 'THE FACT'. He has suggested the introduction of the great epics and scriptures of our country in the education system so that an individual can benefit from the moral values inscribed in them.

The author has vociferously spoken about the role of mass media in shaping a country's future. He has correctly pointed out that same weapon which can be used for the growth and social well being can also cause mass destruction. The author has made a humble request to the people who are part of social media to think and reconsider their role and remove the futility it currently holds.

In the section about religion, he has proposed a new religion called "National Religion" to be followed by one and all when outside the premises of their home. The philosophy behind proposing a national religion is to unite the country and terminate the problems created in the name of religion. This ideology seems appealing theoretically but lacks pragmatic viewpoint. Author wants every individual to consider humanity as a religion and distinguish it from the religious practices followed. The idea of "Dharma" as good karma appeases the reader.

Under the population section, the author has proposed a lot of schemes to manage the exploding population India has. The author has very well pointed out the reason of higher offspring among downtrodden section of the society. This section of the society must be taught to control the growth rate. I agree with the idea of ideal family where parliamentary bill should be passed to regulate the number of children a family can have. And then extending some special privileges to them. But most of the privileges proposed by author are only going to create more disturbance in the society as he has proposed reservations in may places. The word reservation has already caused a a lot of damage to the growth of our country and many talents are wasted in the name of it.

Over all I find the book engaging where it makes you think about how as an individual you can contribute for a better India. Though at many places author fails to offer pragmatic solutions but overall its a good read to put your brain to work for a better India.
Read it on your own to grab the good he has offered.

First of all, a very good read, a very well written book with a vision of channelizing the systems towards the betterment of our country. The author has charted out the major issues that are lingering in the minds of the every Indian citizen - electoral system and leadership, population, education system, media, and religion and pose a question - where, after all, did we go wrong, with which I’m in agreement. Here are my cents about the discussed issues, agreements, and disagreements with regards to the author’s standpoint.

Electoral System and Leadership:

Democracy and Secularism are the words seen only in our constitution these days. The electoral system in its very basic needs a lot of analysis and improvement. The author’s feeling that the magnanimity of the people is deteriorating and is confined to only ‘Me and my family’ and does not cover the larger aspects is very correct, which is certainly a disturbing factor. Unfortunately, we are ruled by the politicians who does not consider the needs of the people whom they are serving – this aspect needs to completely change which can be done only by imposing stringent laws on the election system and the leadership. Bare minimum, the basic educational and criminal background verification needs to a pre-requisite for allowing candidates to stand in any election.

Population:

Population is certainly a major hindrance to the development of our country and the author suggests the benefits that should be provided for the ideal family holders as a token of encouragement but also quotes reservation as one of the factors to appreciate the ‘ideal family’ mentality which sounds bizarre – already we are striving hard to uproot the reservations prevailing in various ways and means. The population can be eradicated only by spreading the awareness rather than enforcing it through any laws or reservations. Alternatively, there can be perks announced if people opt to adopt an abandoned child rather than disenfranchising or denying basic rights for people who have more than 2 children. After all, the criminals, rapists, and corrupt politicians are let free, why should a common man be penalized?
On the other hand, the author could have refrained from using the below statement:
"Even if I had produced 10 children, I would have given those many good citizens to the country because God has given me the financial and social capability to do so. We stopped at two but on the other hand, around 10 children are being born to single parents on the roads and in slums."
People dwell in slums, not because of their choice but because they didn’t have access to the luxuries which the author was bestowed with.

Education System:

In the likes of the author, I also envision a day when aggressive reforms are accelerated at the grass root level of the education system. Schools teach on how to write exams successfully rather than imparting life skills and human values. If we feel nowadays schools are offering high-level education, then why are there instances of murders, rape and criminal offense happening all around – In that case, what are we teaching our young generation? It’s pathetic that our younger generations are well-literate but not educated.

Media:

Media, these days gives predetermined views in favor of the government or any party, on contrary to executing their fundamental responsibility of reporting the news impartially. They have overlooked the fact that with great power comes great responsibility. Agree with the author that the media should be used as a means of effective communication and not to sensationalize any issues for the political or monetary mileage.

Religion:

The concept of religion was in existence to channelize the people to work in right directions on contrary people are fighting for religion. As the author mentioned, religion is performing your duties in the righteous indignation.
At the outset, I’m happy that we have at least started questioning on the corrupt practices we’ve been following for generations. Barring a few impractical and harsh suggestions, this book is certainly good for a one time read but most importantly pondering upon the practical thoughts specified in the book and working towards making our country corrupt free should be the ideal situation.

There is no doubt that India has made rapid progress and achieved prosperity too, yet the goals that we set for ourselves are still unfulfilled or underachieved. It is a harsh reality that we have bigger problems today than we had at the time of Independence. These problems are not good signs for the future of India.

"When we see the problems related to political leadership, population growth, education, the media and religion going from bad to worse, a natural question comes up in our minds. Where, after all, did we go wrong? What happened during our democratic journey of independent India that we are faced with nasty problems on all these fronts? Why couldn't we teach people occupying places of responsibility that rights are given to perform your genuine duties, not to serve your personal whims, false ego and greed?"

It is the author's firm belief that if the problems related to the above five fundamentals issues continue to be as they are, the nation will be hit by a crisis of unimaginable proportions, our national edifice would crumble and everything that our leaders had valued and held sacred for the love of the country before independence, would be lost forever. So, the author, through a deep-seated and thought provoking commentary on these issues invites you to think along with him and ponder over them honestly and sincerely. While going through the book, you may come across points where you differ with the author but in the end, you will be convinced that to make our country ideal, the need is for wider awakening on the issues as discussed in the book.

This book encompasses over five sections discussing five major problems of India.
1. Electoral system and leadership
2. Population
3. Education system
4. Media
5. Religion

The author discusses the problems in each of these areas faced by the independent India and suggest his ways to mitigate the problems. I personally didnt find the suggestions put forward by the author as something unheard of. It sounded like an essay which we used to read in schools every now and then. Many-a-times, author has mocked at the present situation and his solutions seems to aggravate the condition instead of being a feasible solution. You can read the book to know about the author's perspective of the problems faced by young India.

Happy Reading!

At the onset, a book with such positive thoughts to change the corrupt systems in the country. The author has discussed 5 major concerns prevailing in the country such as electoral system and leadership, population, education system, media, and religion. In addition to stating the problems, the author has also jotted down the solutions to eradicate the flaws in the system, which is good. But there are a few visionary ideas which would be very impractical to implement in our system – like assigning a responsibility called NDMP (Nominated Deputy Member of Parliament) under the auspices of the Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha doesn’t seem to be a feasible option. Similarly, under Population, the author has touched upon restrictions to be imposed on the citizens who deviate from the ‘Ideal Family’ concept, like depriving them of the right to vote and denying passport or ration card – which seems to be abnegating the basic rights of a common man.

On the other hand, the author has well explained about the expenses incurred during the elections, corrupt politicians, and media to highlight the positive happenings than the negative ones, if the negative ones are reported, it should be published with high authenticity, which seems to make sense.

While I agree with the author that the religion equals to fulfilling one's duty in a right way, creating a ‘national religion’ is highly impossible in the ‘so called democratic’ country like India.
I like the way the author has quoted the gurukulam way of education that imparts skills to mold a man in all aspects rather than training them to get a white collar job.

The suggestions given by the author has its own pros and cons. But on the whole, the book is a good read and conveys a different perspective to change our country ideal.

An honest, poignant, well- articulated book that highlights and provides the required acumen to the very core issues of our own Country. The author of this book has recorded the fundamental issues Political Leadership, Population, Education System, Media and Religion as the hindrance for the growth and prosperity of our country and the citizens.

The Author being our own countrymen needn’t have to analyze or dig deep to understand the above-mentioned core issues that actually hinders the growth of this Country in almost all aspects. All I have to do is to agree with the author and nothing much as we all know this already and living with it.

As far as the Electoral System and Political Leadership we all know the current state of it and all of us wanted this to improve for the benefit of the entire nation. In this front, the author states that people with narrow emotional sphere should be removed from big responsibilities and I don’t think anyone would disagree with this. All we as citizens needed is a leader who is not selfish and works towards building a nation which demonstrates all-inclusive development. We are fed up with the kind of leaders who promotes nepotism, who takes the electoral system for granted in the name of democracy, secularism etc.

The author rightly points out the flaws in the current Education System and provides certain measures to tackle those as well. Personally, I feel though certain suggestions like IT-enabled teachings etc. are practically not viable at this point of time due to the diversity and versatility of this Country and not to mention the poor infrastructure and governance part of it. Having said that, I’m happy that nowadays great Corporate Leaders like the author are coming out with all possible suggestions for the betterment of our Country. Since people have started voicing their opinions publicly I feel this kind of thought provoking reads will open up our minds and definitely act as a catalyst.

I wanted to read the book hoping to get some nice initiatives by Mr. Roy towards development of our country and fellow countrymen. However, after reading the book I was highly disappointed at the final outcome and the content of the book. Whatever things and moral suggestions have been given in the book are more or less known to everyone. Most of us know how about the things being said in the book. What I had expected was some steps by this renowned businessman of India to work towards them and put some solid ideas for them. But I was so sorry to read the thoughts and the way they were portrayed with some harsh remarks on the people of India and the country itself.

Some of the points may seem reasonable but the big question is, “Is it enough to jot down the shortcomings and the steps needed to overcome the problems that too from such a responsible citizen of India? The need of the hour is to get up and work towards achieving a great future with the help of inclusive and sustainable growth.”

The book comprises of five sections, each discussing five major problems of India:

Electoral system and leadership
Population
Education system
Media
Religion
However, mere putting down the thoughts, that too in a mocking way and sometimes in an exaggerated manner, is not enough. I failed to understand the purpose of the book. What are we going to achieve by reading this? The book is neither inspiring nor encouraging. Overall a below average read for me.

Coming to the language of the book, I was highly disappointed to notice so many grammatical errors. The book is full of such errors which break the flow of the read. The cover is nice and the style of the book with an additional jacket over the cover enhanced its beauty.

All in all a disappointing read for me.

Think with me is a book discussing matters about India and its people. While flipping through the pages of the book, one comes across many hard hitting facts and bold revelations by the author. One also gets a chance to learn about several interesting facts about India like what it was in the olden days and how the Mughals and British ruled affected our education system.

Overall the book is divided into five sections: Electoral system and leadership, Population, Education system, Media and Religion of India. The author has pointed out many problems related to these areas and has also suggested some solutions to overcome these. He discussed these issues at length wanting everyone to think with him and act before it is getting too late. However, I did not find some of the solutions feasible.

I liked the title of the book. It really managed well to attract the attention of the readers. The cover image is also nice. I liked the subtle colours being used to create it and the way Indian flag is portrayed with three small lines in tricolour.

This is author’s second book, though I haven't read the first one. I liked and enjoyed reading this one as the book draws our attention to many problems prevailing in our society along with the possible solutions. As the author suggested, the book definitely makes the readers think over the issues after reading it.

Though the book is good in some aspects, it has its share of shortcomings also. There are several grammatical errors in the book and at some places, I felt that the author has penned his thoughts very casually, without giving them much thought. The lack of acknowledgement part in the book also disappointed me.

Overall, I found the book interesting with some food for thought. Those who like reading books on social and political themes may give it a try. A nice effort by Mr. Subrata Roy.

Despite outlining the flaws in our system in clear words, Think With Me lacks the spark to inspire people to get up and take action. Dr. Roy has used an extremely lucid and simple language which makes it easy for an average reader to understand and relate to the issues covered in the book. The biggest USP of the book is that the author chose to write on a unique concept that despite being extremely important is often ignored by even the most well established writer and this made the book quite likeable for me. I wish Dr. Roy all the very best for its success.

“Think with Me – Fundamentals for making our country ideal”. The book has five aspects – Electoral System & Leadership, Population, Education System, Media, and Religion. The author expressed his views on the problems with solutions we Indians are facing at present and tried to give some solutions for those problems in this book. A narrow-minded person can never be a good leader. He emphasized categories of emotional satisfaction, “I“, “My“, “We“, “We All” and “Us“.
I found his opinion on the poor population that poor people are responsible for the destruction of merits and qualifications of India’s entire population. Education System's thought and his solutions are interesting. I will leave it for the readers to read it. The role of the media houses on nation building is widespread. But our media is doing the opposite these days. He suggested measures should be taken to stop irresponsible journalism. In my opinion, they could be really effective if applied.

Religion has an unavoidable impact on human lives. Our country’s political motto is “Unity in Diversity”. we all need to put extra efforts and keep a peaceful approach to solve the problems sometimes arise due to communal riots. Otherwise, the riot can destroy our country.

This is the non-fiction book, I have read. I tried to understand the writer’s perspective. One needs to keep in mind that this book contains writer’s own opinion. The solutions he offered not all of them are practical and agreeable. But overall it is a good read.

The book cover is attractive. Writing style of the author is simple and easy to understand

The book is divided into five main parts i.e. Electoral system and leadership, Population, Education system, Media and Religion of India. Each and every chapter gives an eye opening revelation of our Indian system also suggestions being provided by the author.

I recommend this book to those who loves to read on politics and also to politicians, for the progress of India. I agree with the author at some points and do not at others.

This book doesn't just discuss the issues and put different perspective but also shows a map to their solutions which could be implemented for the benefit and prosperity of the nation.

The author discusses everyday problems which are there for a long time without any proper answers and solutions.

I feel the author has made a bold attempt to bring a much needed good change in our country.

Theme

The book is a sincere effort by the author to surface the harsh realities of our country. Through his book "Think with Me" he makes an honest attempt to reach the roots of the issues that are bigger than it seems and provides a solution that can help our nation become an ideal one.

The book has been categorically written to emphasise on the major fundamental issues that our country is facing today. Author believes these fundamental problems, if not taken seriously will lead to a national crisis of unimaginable proportion.

Plot

Author has presented five fundamental issues that we are facing in India today. The book is divided into 5 portions focusing on each issue at length. Electoral and Leadership being the first and foremost issue that needs amendments. Likewise the other issues that are eating up our country are population, education system, media and religion.

Author tries to give an explanatory view on some of the questions that's been haunting us as citizens for many generations. Where did we go wrong? What happened to the honest Leaders with ethical values we had before independence, whose struggle for freedom was selfless and not a personal motive? Why is our education system so hollow inspite of our rich knowledge resource from ancient India?

The concept of morality and immorality is very well explained by dividing human emotional sphere into I, My, We, We All and Us. According to him there is a need to widen our emotional sphere in order to serve the mankind and bring an overall change in the society.

Review

The book has an appealing title and a decent cover page without making it look too loud. The book is truly inspiring and it invokes a desire in a reader to be able to bring the change for a better life and a better country. Author's writing style is very simple and uncluttered. It's thought provoking and I related to every issue and the agenda that has been brought about by the author. I completely agree that with the loopholes in the system and weak authorities we will reach no where inspite of our rich knowledge resource from the old days.

I would recommend politicians and people in power to read this book and reinforce the ideas discussed in the book. Much can be achieved by strengthening our education and political system. The book definitely is a complete food for thought.

Some references from the book that keeps you thinking!

"Why couldn't we teach people occupying places of responsibility that rights are given to perform genuine duties, not to serve your personal whims, false ego and greed?"

"Our population is flourishing on poor qualifications and low merits. It means we are being defeated in terms of qualitative workforce. This is the biggest reason for our downfall."

"Another worrisome aspect of education or literacy is the lack of good quality teachers. India is short of 12 lac teachers to provide quality education at primary level."

Think with Me is a non-fiction which talks about some of the issues prevalent in our country. Being an Indian, we all are well aware that India is a developing country and the developing state of India needs a fast pace in order to overcome the current situation. There are some issues which are known to all- just known! We seldom try to know the real side of the problems; or rather we try to ignore them because we’re satisfied with what we have. So, there arise a need to spread awareness about the common issues which are often discussed with no intention to deeply ponder upon it.
The book is divided into 5 parts-

“ For the people of this nation, as far as possible, uniformity should be brought about in the ways of living and in the customs and conventions. In the name of religion the primary duty of everyone must be to work towards national interest.”

Published by Rupa Publication and penned by one of the virtuous names of Indian corporate world, Subrata Roy Sahara’s ‘Think with Me’ is an insight into the value system that is needed by the people of India to develop and restore its greatness with time. In precise words and crisp thoughts, this book takes you on a ride through those inundated terrains that have been devoid of the basic value system, which can bring back India’s lost glory. Mr.Roy has again gracefully put up points to ponder. But, if this book is essentially a good read, or is just a mundane rhetoric, let’s find out.

‘Think With Me’ as the name suggests, is a textbook that tells you how the government and the citizens can work together for the betterment of the nation. The book is categorically divided into five sections- Electoral System and Leadership, Population, Education System, Media, and Religion. In each section the author has mentions how and why it is essential to uplift the human values to make yourself and your country great. He has patched his words with some interesting anecdotes (both person and general) that makes it quite clear about what he is intending to say. The author has not minced words, and gives you a clear and defined direction towards his thoughts in general.

Mr.Roy has tried to make this book readable and comprehend-able for the masses. He has used very simple and mundane language, that can be easily read by anyone even with little knowledge of the language. Not only that, the examples are quite relatable and one can connect easily without much head break. The book also has a decent editing, baring the fact that on couple of occasions the narrative is repetitive with the same points thrown at the readers again and again. I wish there was something new with turning of the each page.

Precisely as said before, this 112 pages book has nothing new to offer. Umpteenth times these points have been told and retold in various socio economic platforms in varied contexts. From that point, it is an extremely drab and spiritless book. As a reader, I would have looked to read something new. For eg. Mr. Roy talks about population as a deterrent in the development. And, adds that the population needs to be controlled. He writes, “ Approximately 70,000 children are born everyday in the country, almost one every 1.25 seconds. One-third of them weigh half the weight of a normal healthy child. According to the government statistics, the country has about 6,50,000 primary schools. But the alarmingly hight birthrate requires the additional establishments of 1 lac primary schools every year. This is an impossible proposition.” The book is laden with such facts that are found in every possible journal in and outside the country. However, the author has not come up with a definite and consumable solutions to any of the issues mentioned that can be adhered to for the larger good. Thus, the book becomes a redundant read on this account and falls flat furiously.

It is undeniable a fact that Sri. Subrata Roy Shahara is a name to reckon with when it comes to corporate accomplishments. His name is synonymous to corporate brilliance and and his achievements are examples to go by. Considering that, everything this person has to say can be valued and heard at least once, even if it is a rerun. ‘Think With Me’ is essentially a book that has been told a zillion times before. This time too the content and intent is to inspire, motivate and enlighten the inner most self of the masses. So, hear it from the man who has created one of the most valued corporate houses in the country. Grab it for a one time easy, and an effortless read.

Think with me' - The second book from the trilogy 'Thoughts from Tihar' by Saharashri Subroto Roy is his in-depth analysis of the country's present state of affairs. The author idenifies 5 major obstacles that
India, as a nation, faces while striving towards achieving its goal of becoming a developed country. He analyses the problems, namely, the electoral system and leadership, population, education, media and religion, their impact and presents his solutions to overcome the hurdles to make India the country that every citizen dreamt of before and after independence.
He talks about the flawed electoral system and the resultant choice of corrupt and inable leaders that hinder the nation's development. He puts forward the concept of the emotional sphere of individuals classifying them as 'I', 'My', 'We', 'We all', 'Us'. This emotional sphere of individuals is mentioned as a possible decisive factor while choosing a leader. The concept of the emotional sphere is a very subjective one however, which would practically make it difficult to implement. However, as one flips through the pages, it can be noticed that the author has taken a very generalised approach to such a complex and vast concept. He author also proposes appointment of eminent dignitaries as leaders to ensure the smooth functioning of the legislature. Taking a closer look, the idea proposed for delegation of work could simly result to complex hierarchies and ego issues.
The second factor that he talks about is the alarming rise in the population of the country. While the issue needs immediate attention, the ideas mentioned by the author in order to curb the population explosion are regressive in nature and a bit too harsh. He introduces the concept of an 'ideal family' which definitely is a commendable thought, the ways to implement the same are not agreeable though. For instance, he proposes granting reservations to those belonging to an ideal family, thereby promoting one peril of the society to fight against another. To quote the author, "Even if i had produced 10 children, I would have given those many good citizens to the country because God has given me the financial and social responsibilty to do so." This thought from te author reflects his bias towards the higher strata of the society. He deals with the problem with a bird's eye view therefore being prejudiced against a certain section of the society.
His understanding of the crippled education system, media and religion as hazards to the society seems satisfactory. We definitely need more qualified and able teachers and a more conscientious media to help the nation grow better. He states measures to make the media more responsible and accountable, yet leaves the reader wondering how much has been implemented by the Sahara parivar that forms a major part of the media. The author says," Religion in its true sense is nothing but fulfilling one's duties towards others. Principles of religion instill human traits in a man which enable him to fulfill his duties towards self as well as others. This positive approach towards religion is appreciable and an idea worth promoting.
The author has thrown light on the issues and expressed his thoughts in a very colloqial manner. The writings at numerous places convey the conceited thoughts of the author in ways of citing examples of self praise. The solutions appear whimsical, harsh and regressive also getting repetitive at places. The book lacks the freshness as the agenda is widely discussed on various platforms and also lacks research. Coming from a Corporate biggie, the ideas seem vague, lacking reasoning and opinionated. This one looks like a bestseller, not for the content, but the social stature of the author.

Think With Me - View from jail

This is the first book I am reading of Subrata Roy Sahara
Book review-
It is a common habit of people in our society to find faults in everything from condition of roads, education system, population, governance and even how sports are played on field.

Every one is a know all and a preacher. Most of us have many solutions to all the problems that exist in our country but when it comes to following rules, even the simplest rule of wearing a helmet and sticking to the lane while driving are ignored. If after that we are stuck in a traffic jam or somebody dies we blame it on ill-governance by city authorities, on police department for being lax and so on and so forth….Point is nobody stands up to say it was wrong to not follow rules!

I feel this book is of same temperament. This book is divided into 5 sections of

1) Electoral, 2)System and Leadership, 3)Population, 4)Education System, 5)Media and Religion.

Each segment is further dealt with in detail but the author goes on to tell what all is wrong with various systems. He has mentioned throughout the book ” I can personally guide the method”. The author comments ‘sick mentality’ of poor people because they bear more children with the aim of earning more. He goes on to say this and that should be done for population control.

I agree that the problems that he has discussed are real and need a revolution. However I have a limited scope of improving the system and I do that by following rules, by being tolerant and friendly with people of other faiths, by teaching my child that the country should come first…I am vary of preachers though.

Book Rating- 3/5

I can say fine book justification
