Have you ever looked around and said, "This is not the life I intended to create?" A young family with everything begins to question their choices. Are making a living and making a life two very different things? Can they allow their true values to take center stage and choose a different path? Mike and Alison Buehler bought fully into the American Dream. Two doctoral degrees, successful careers, three children, and a big house should be a recipe for happiness. But something is missing, and the wheels are coming off. Join this family as they journey toward health and happiness based on a very different set of values.
Not at all what I expected. I expected Lessons in parenting, gardening, health, and etc. What I read was a book about her life. The author's tone is unpleasant she explains how she never had to struggle, she's never had major issues in life, she's better than all of us, she is this -she is that -- blah blah blah.
I got 3/4 the way through the book in disgust. I was still hoping for a bit of the "lessons" part to come into play. Then I realized this is not a how-to book at all, just a mish-mash of her blog posts.
This book is amazing, and I really enjoyed it. It's fun, easy reading, while still being very educational and super inspiring. This is without a doubt a book that I will read again, and again, and again...
I expected this book to be more how-to and less memoir; however, I found it to be very inspiring and enjoyable. Buehler tells her story with honesty. I found myself wanting to read more at the end. A very good read.
I was really excited to read this book and disappointed in it at first. I was disappointed in their views on vaccines, public school, SAHM, etc. But, as they move to a more natural way of living, some of their views changed and I think that’s a step in the right direction.
The author sent me an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reading this book is like having a direct conversation with the author over a nice glass of wine. Growing the Good Life is a very raw, honest look at a woman’s life and her methods for finding stability for her and her family. Told through a series of blogs and annotation, the story is admittedly not linear. Portions of the story are repetitive with emphasis on different aspects in each telling. While I would have liked to see more direct correlation between life style changes and outcomes, this story offers exceptional encouragement to anyone who reads it. The story offers support and encourages determination to make the changes we all need to make to be healthy and happy.
