WELCOME TO STARLIGHT: A sweet and sexy new small-town romance series set at a family-owned pub in the picturesque snowmobiling town of Snowy Ridge, Wisconsin.

The weather may be cold outside, but things are sizzling indoors.

Jessie Foster has long been the person everyone could count on, the one who stayed back with her mom to run the family business while her two older sisters, whom hadn’t spoken to her in years, took off to live their lives. When her sisters suddenly drop back into her world wanting a job and a place to live, who could blame her for being angry? Sick of always doing what’s right, Jessie is ready to shake things up. Even if it’s wrong. And wrong has a name.

Enter the sexy Cade Stone, new to town and opening a snowmobile repair shop with his two equally hot brothers. Cade has an edge and a temper. He knows he’s a jerk 90% of the time and he’s generally unapologetic. Growing up in Chicago, he’d never dreamed he’d end up in the sleepy town of Snowy Ridge, population 1000. But somehow, he found himself caving to family pressure and doing “the right thing,” no matter how much he hated it.

Neither were looking, and they’re completely wrong for each other. But sometimes wrong and right blur and magic happens.

Warning -- spoilers.

I had a lot of issues with this... but first the summary.

Jessie runs the Starlight pub with her mom. She is estranged from her two older sisters for many reasons. She meets the ornery Cade while he's in the pub doing some work and he won't help her out with an ex-bf who comes back to bug her. But he realizes after meeting her that he can't stop thinking about her. Hmm. The good news is that we learn that he's new to town and we read about his backstory. We then find out that the estranged sisters are coming back to live in town for good. And so begins the saga of these sisters.

So now my issues:

This is a bit dirtier than the prequel novella.... given that the prequel was so CLEAN. So much so that I wondered if it was the same author. There's a scene where Cade is propositioned by another woman in the men's bathroom and she sticks her hand down his pants (that came out of left field) and the whole thing is just tawdry and doesn't fit with the writing. And this contributes to my feelings about the the whole bar scene, which was questionable. The description of her being drunk came off like perhaps she was drugged and given that she couldn't remember anything at all about how she ended up with Jason was disturbing. But given that her friend explains things, I ultimately, I think this was a writing thing.

Speaking of Jason, he's all swarmy for the first 80% of the story until he swoops in and saves the day??? That didn't make sense.

Luci (or is it Lucy? It's spelled both ways in the version I read) is the middle child with issues. Was she supposed to be so pathetic? She continually throws herself at men, sleeps with her sister's boyfriend, lies to them about her successes in NY, and tries to sell the pub out from under the family without telling anyone. She's troubled and I hated reading about her.

I had a hard time reconciling the romantic dates between Jessie and Cade while her mother is so ill.
While the dates were cute, I wasn't feeling it the way we should have but that's because Jessie herself starts out feeling guilty. And then they end up with an HFN rather than an HEA. And it ends so abruptly, I was disappointed.

Lots of typos and questionable word choice in this one.

Coming Home by Kris Jett is the first book in the Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight series. The story is set in a small tourist town in northern Wisconsin known for its snowmobiling trails. The main character, Jessie is the proprietor of the Starlight Pub along with her mother. Jessie’s two sisters – Wynn and Lucinda – left town years ago and Jessie has had no contact with either of them. However, that is about to change when Jessie’s mother informs her that Wynn and Luci are returning to town, are going to live with her until they find housing and will be working at the pub. Needless to say, does not go over well with Jessie.

While these changes are taking place in Jessie’s life, she meets oh-so-sexy, Cade Stone. Cade has recently moved back to Snowy Ridge with his equally hot brothers and is in the process of opening a snowmobile parts and repair shop. His history with relationships is non-existent; as soon as the woman starts to show signs of getting serious, Cade drops her and moves on. However, Jessie has found a way into his thoughts and his heart as no one has before.

The dialogue is funny and quick, the story interesting. It’s easy to see where many of the storylines are going, but it’s generally fun getting there. There are issues with the story which is why it got a 3 star rating – grammar and word choices (both of which could have been helped with a better editor), questionable character choices that didn’t seem to fit the story and two characters that are generally unlikable. This is the first book of the series and I will read the second – the book had promise and I hope to find that the author and the story improve over time.

I actually read all three books in this series one after the other prior to posting my review so I kinda cheated. I do like this authors style and for a debut novel it is well done. The characters are brash and remind me of a few friends of mine so I can relate to them. What I do love is the characters lean towards reality in attitudes and family dynamics. I mean mom always wants her babies to get along and with her hidden secrets it's not a surprise.

I did enjoy this author's style and the fact that even though the ending for her characters wasn't a wedding and babies, it is the end of the story for now. I love that she wasn't pressured to end the story that way in case there's more to tell. Nicely done.

First off, I really wished I had noticed how short this "book" was before I began reading. I'm also thankful it was free through Kindle Unlimited.
Even though this was a "novella" there are things that could have been left out to help flesh out the couple's relationship a bit more. (Example: the whole thing with her ex-boyfriend could have simply been glossed over instead of dedicating so much time to it in the story. In my opinion, it just made Jessie seem flighty and a flake who really shouldn't drink.)
Also, even though this only occurred twice in the book, the word 'due' was used when it should have been 'do'. I really don't appreciate wasting my time reading a book, when all the author seems to have done is run her story through spell-check and not actually have had someone proofread it.
Now for the bummer of the story - it just comes to an abrupt end without any warning whatsoever. Kindle said there were 11 minutes remaining in the book, but it was a preview for the next book in the series about Jessie's sister. Yet another disappointment for me, b/c I was hoping this series would be about the brothers NOT the sisters.
I not entirely sure I would recommend this book.

3.5 stars - because....

This book is good, but it could be great if the holes/inconsistencies in the plot and the typos and incorrect words were corrected, as these distract you from the flow of the book hence the 3.5 stars. If these were put right it would be a 4.5 star review.

At times I found Jessie a little immature and irritating, but it is these character faults which make her human and relatable. Exactly the same as Cade's grumpiness at the beginning of the book. All the characters are well written and pull an instant reaction from you....not always a good reaction, some you instantly dislike and some make your skin crawl!

I did enjoy this book, even with distractions and yet it did finish a little suddenly, leaving you hanging a little - but I am assuming this is leaving it open for the second book in the series to pick up from the same point and continue the story. Quite honestly whilst I was not gripped by this it was enjoyable and is free on Kindle Unlimited, so there really isn't anything to lose when you can read it for free. I am going to try the second in the series which is also on kindle unlimited - hopefully this one will flow a little better.

What it’s about…

Jessie and her mother run the Starlight Pub in Snowy Ridge, Wisconsin. Jessie’s the one that everyone goes to when they need something. She can always help you out. She loves her life just the way it is. But now her mother tells her that her two estranged sisters are coming home to stay and work in the pub. Jessie can’t accept it.

Cade and his two brothers just moved to Snowy Ridge to open a snowmobile business. They’ve divided up the labor and Cade is doing the books. He’d rather be working on motorcycles back in Detroit. But family is everything and he’s committed to his brothers. Then he has a run-in with Jessie and can’t stop thinking about her.

Can these two troubled and unhappy people work together to help each other and their families to find the solution that lets them find their HEA?

Technical Tidbits…

The cover is very appealing and certainly relates to the story inside. Kudos to the author for that!

The storyline wanders a bit, but I guess it gets the characters from the beginning to the end. I just think it could have been done a bit better.

The characters were introduced and developed and explained quite well. We saw them. We experienced their behavior in good and bad circumstances. And we had family members talk about them. So we pretty much got to know everything about the characters except for their deepest secrets, because we didn’t spend a lot of time inside their heads.

The pace again got us from the beginning to the end. As I started each chapter, I was never sure if I was going to be pulled into something interesting or if I was going to sit and sip a cup of coffee and complain about the same things.

The tension was intermittent. It just didn’t hold together.

And this is where you STOP if you don’t want to see any SPOILERS…

The good, the bad, and the ugly…and how much it lit up my life… ✰✰✰⭒

I don’t where the synopses for books come from on GoodReads, but this was at the end of the one for this book:

“Fans of Jessie Evans, Bella Andre, and Susan Mallery will love the Love at Starlight series: stories featuring sassy mid-western women and the alpha males who love them.”

To compare this book or series to the work of these authors is so wrong. These are award-winning authors who have been polishing their craft for several years and have earned the regard of their followers. This book that Kris Jett has published is in no way in the same ballpark as any of the work of these authors. Yes, it takes place in the mid-west. Yes, there are alpha males involved. That’s as close as the similarity comes.

The book needs more editing and polish before it could be considered to be similar to the work of these authors. There are spelling and word use errors to be corrected. There are gaps in the story that need filling and smoothing over. And Jessie’s not sassy so much as she’s just plain rude most of the time. As is Cade. Why is rudeness okay? I have no idea where the rest of the series goes. And there is a prequel. This book ends suddenly and with a rather not quite finished feeling. I guess that’s supposed to lead us to the next book in the series. I’m afraid I’m not interested in the next book.

I enjoyed Coming Home overall. wint

The Gist: Jessie likes her life running a small pub in a small winter vacation town. Everything's going smoothly until both her estranged sisters decide to move back home. And the ex-boyfriend one of her sisters slept with moves back, too. And then there's a pesky newcomer who's hot as all get out but a total jerk. It's...too much for one girl to take. It really is.

I liked Jessie. She's a hard worker and keeps her head down. She's just doing her thing and she's good with that. And Cade. Well, he's a jerk for a minute there but overall he's a pretty good guy, too. Always there for a shoulder to lean on and ready to make a new life for himself. I liked Cade and Jessie together. They have a little fire early on but really suit each other. Some sweet moments, too. Things are kept PG or fade to black.

Now Jessie's family. I can't say I really cared for any of them. Both her sisters are pretty much jerks and Jessie's just supposed to welcome them with open arms and forget one said horrible things to her and the other slept with her boyfriend. One never apologizing and the other offering a half assed apology. So this irked me. I wanted her to just kick them both out and wash her hands of them.

The other issue was editing. It is terrible. Completely wrong words (meaning whore and saying horror), spelling, calling people the wrong name, etc. Jett desperately needs a new editor.

Despite that it was a nice read. I enjoyed the wintry town and the light romance as Jessie tried to right her world after her family turned it all on it's side.

Jessie Foster has too much drama is her life, she is not looking for romance. She is busy along with her mother managing the Starlight Pub in Snowy Ridge , Wisconsin when she learns her 2 older sisters are coming home. One she hasn't spoken to in 6 years, the other in 4 years. Her High school boyfriend has returned to town and wants to get back together with her and she just learned her Mother has cancer.

Cade along with his 2 older brothers have recently returned to Snowy Ridge to start a snowmobile repair business. He's not looking for romance, he would rather be back in Chicago living in his Hyde Park Apartment working as an auto mechanic rather than in Snowy Ridge taking care of all the paperwork and financial operations for the business. On one of his retreats to the Starlight Pub to work on his Paperwork he meets Jessie and as they each work through their personal/family problems they discover an attraction for each other, and Cash realizes Snowy Ridge is exactly where he wants to be.

This is an enjoyable read and a great first book by Kris Jett. I definitely want to read the rest of this series I received an ARC of this book and this is my review.

Sweetness, fun, depth, what more do you want?

Jessie has a lot going on in her life right now, an ex returning, her two estranged sisters returning… it’s not easy.

Cade let his brothers persuade him to come with them to Snowy Ridge, but he doesn’t want to be here. At all.

The first time Jessie and Cade meet is not really a success… they instantly dislike one another.

It’s a sweet and fun story. It has real depth too. The steaminess is kept behind closed doors.

There are a few minor slip-ups where the past tense goes briefly to present. And some mistakes, like ‘Your head over heels dude.’ Ehm, yeah, ‘You are…’ so it should be ‘You’re…’. But I didn’t mind too much; the story was so enticing I couldn’t stop reading. Whenever I tried to stop reading the book just screamed “Read me! Forget all your chores and just read me! No need for sleep, just read me!” :)

I definitely fell in love with this series.

Loved it ❤

So after my minor mistake of reading the third book first; I immediately jumped to this one on the first opportunity I got and Jessie, this tough cookie was just awesome.
Apart from having the return of a horrible ex from the pastJessie is visited by her two sisters Lucinda and an elder one who who has a little toddler with her.
Now Family is important but Jessie seems to have a problem with both of her sisters.
To make the book interesting though we are introduced to Cabe, one of the C brothers.
These two form an odd friendship but not to odd with Lucinda seeming to get involved by opening her mouth and saying nonsense thus pissing off Jessie and making it sort of difficult for the two to be together.
But after some wounds are fixed and sisters reunite, J & C manage to be together and find their happily ever after.💏
The book was amazing and truly recommended to those late readers like moi.
Thank you for this book.

This is a fast paced story introducing Cade, and his brothers, opening a snowmobile repair shop and his leading lady, Jessie, who owns The Starlight Pub with her mother. Enter her two sisters and the drama never ends. Ms. Jett does a good job setting up these characters for future books in her series. However, this book is in serious need of re-editing. I know it's not a college English paper, but it is a published work of writing that should represent the best the author has to give. The number of grammar, spelling and tense issues are too innumerable to count. I do enjoy Jessie and Cade as a new couple and hope to read more about them as the series progresses.

Finding “The One”

Yet another sweet and sexy story by Kris! This one is Cade and Jessie’s story. A falling out with her sisters has given Jessie six yrs of silence and suddenly they are both returning to Snowy Ridge WI. Cade has recently returned to town with his brothers, opening a snowmobile repair shop. Jessie wrestles with the return of her sisters and her ex boyfriend and her amazing new feelings for Cade. This was a lovely story about forgiveness, fear of the unknown and learning to trust smattered with a whole lots of sweet gestures from Cade!

I could say this about all 3 of the books in this series so far... but the author does not develop the love story in any formidable way. It was disappointing to find that anytime where the characters were developing a relationship, the author continued to focus on family dynamics. That was ok for part of the book and could/should have been the secondary story line - and based on the description, that was not how it presented.

Interesting story

Cade moved to Snowy Ridge, WI with his two brothers. He met Jessie when he went to the pub Jessie and her mother run. Jessie's sisters, Luci and Wynn, currently moved back to Snowy Ridge too. The sisters had issues and weren't talking to each other. This was a fast reading story and had several interesting situations throughout the story. I recommend this book as an entertaining read.

Amazing

I devoured this book in one setting. I was in a book funk looking to get out and this book did it! This book is sexy sweet and thrilling all at once. Jessie is a pub owner in a small town. She sees someone and needs to pretend a quick fix. Cade is new in town with his 2 brothers. He has lots of work and doesn’t want to be bothered. Jessie and Cade have a lot of excitement in this book!

Liked it but....

Bad grammar took away from my enjoyment of this story. Glad I didn't pay full price. Started reading series from free sample and was interesting enough to buy. Cade and Jessie met when he rebuffed her appeal to be his pretend beau to avoid an old flame. Who knew her calling him an unflattering name would lead to HEA. The wrap-up with her sisters was a bit rushed in my opinion. Sweet story set in a winter wonderland.

Cute shorter than I thought

A lot of things happened for Jessie in a short period of time. Her ex boyfriend coming back to town, along with her sisters whom she hasn’t spoken to in years. Then her mom getting sick. But in that there’s Cade who at first seems like a bit of a jerk but in the end turns out to be a really stand up guy. What a sweet gesture for their date. Then saving Jessie from a crazy stalker. It’s very sweet and a quick read.

This was a sweet story with some lovely characters. It is a "clean" romance with no sex but it's not boring as there is plenty going on with the main female character, Jessie. I read chapter 39 and turned the page for the next one but that was it!!! A very abrupt ending but to me it feels unfinished so that was disappointing.

Coming Home

Very cute short story that gave me the warm and fuzzies. It was very easy to picture the three Foster sisters. Hippy carefree Luci, nervous and stressed Wynn and strong independent Jessie. Don't even get me started on the men! One of my favorite characters was April, I hope she gets her owm story. For now...on to Wynn's tale.

Good read

This is a very good book about three sisters who were very close while young. They were torn apart by different circumstances and went their separate ways. Other circumstances bring them back together. While at odds with each other they have to find a way to coexist for their mother's sake.

Family Dynamics

Yes! Jessie is my kind of girl! In charge and keeps many things moving forward. The unusual dynamics of the sisters is very reminiscent of high school but it really makes the story~
