A damaged woman fleeing her past.

After being stalked then attacked by a colleague, Dr. Fiona Teague flees to a New Mexico border town. Working in a clinic, Fee endeavors to overcome the horror of that night. To her dismay, Trey Maddox, her brother’s friend, refuses to be deterred from pursuing a relationship with her. If only she weren’t so broken … Trey’s everything a woman could want—honorable, strong, heroic, but he deserves better than a damaged woman.

A strong, capable protector determined to lure her into the shelter of his arms.

During an Idaho blizzard, SSI operative Trey Maddox met Fee over the barrel of a rifle as she protected his pregnant sister-in-law. The gutsy little doc then ignored her own physical injuries to deliver his nephew. How could Trey not fall for her? Before he could persuade her to stay in Idaho, she’d cut and run to New Mexico. Undeterred by the distance, he pursues her, eroding her resistance with patience and tenacious good humor. And, finally, she agrees to an actual “date.”

But the ill wind that had destroyed her once before now sweeps through Fee’s life again. She’s kidnapped by a drug cartel. Trey arrives to find her house a bloody crime scene. The cartel has no idea of the ruthless hunter they’ve unleashed. Trey will storm hell itself in order to rescue Fee and make her his, once and for all.

I legit did not read far enough to get into spoiler territory. You know from the blurb that Fee's past has come back to haunt her and I made it two chapters in, so... no spoiler tags.

Fee was stalked and raped - it says so five times in two chapters. This is one of those "sexual-assault-changed-everything-about-the-way-I-live-my-life" chicks. Which is FINE. You wanna go all Sidney Prescott in Scream 3, that's cool.

Fee moved to a Bumfuck Nowhere little town to hide, she's changed her number repeatedly, she's gone the full nine yards - I'm willing to bet she has an unreasonable number of deadbolts on her front door. So then...
She sighed. Time to change her number again.
Eventually Stall would give up. He’d find a new victim; hopefully, one who could make a case against him and have it stick.

Oh my god, what?

She knows Crazy Rapist is stalking her again, so she's like "I'll just change my number and he'll get tired of chasing me. Find somebody else to stalk and rape." Because that's not the stupidest thing ever or anything, right? "As long as it's not me being raped, no big!" This is nothing more than an inconvenience for her!

"No need to tell my Special Ops brother and his SSI operative BFF that could probably help me with this, nooope!"

Again, I say OH MY GOD, WHAT?

No, I'm not here for this nonsense.

We finally get the conclusion to Trey and Fiona's story that was started in Stormy Weather Baby. Fiona, who is SSI operative Price Teague's sister, went through a traumatic experience with a stalker/rapist. During Stormy Weather Baby she was not emotional healed enough for a relationship even though she was attracted to Price's team mate Trey Maddox. Trey knew she was the one for him right away but also knew she needed a lot of time to heal before he made any type of move and was content to wait for her while she moved to New Mexico to work as a doctor in a small town border health center. Over the month's he and her brother visited her there with Trey just keeping things in the friend zone. That is until the Mexican Cartel kidnaps her..

This book starts what I think its going to be a new story arc that will be continued in future books. The start of that arc is where the suspense and action ramped up in the story. Even though there were quite a few action/suspense scenes, this one seemed little tamer with the main focus being on the relationship between Trey and Fiona and also introducing us to some new characters who I hope to see their stories in future books.

This was an enjoyable story, that kept me engaged and entertained from start to finish and although it wasn't quite as action packed as some of the previous stories in this series. There was still enough to keep me enthralled, even though there was no real conclusion to the danger posed to Fee and Pia from the Cartel. But I am hoping this will be resolved as the series progresses, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from this series. Especially with the introduction of new characters, including Levi, Pia and Tara, and I would happily recommend this book and series to others.

I've been looking forward to reading An Ill Wind. Now that I have, I can say that it's worth the wait. The book will keep you captivated with all the action and suspense while at the same time warming your heart with the passion and love shared not only by Trey and Fee but also among the other SSI operatives and their respective partners. I also love the humorous bits of conversation among the ladies - The Maddox zucchini debate. Epic! The SSI series is one of my favorite series, ever! I cannot wait for the next one.

Great Read!

This was a good read although with the other books in this series had heroines who are kick ass females, this one was not so. She came across as wimpy and had a little backbone towards the end but still it was a good read.

Loved all the books in this series so far. I'm having trouble to decide witch one is my favorite because I read the first 4 books already more than 3 times. Was waiting on this book and bought it as soon as it came out.

Ms Michaels knows how to capture a stong women and hot alpha man without going it over the top or making it unbelievable. Greatly written and once you start very hard to put it down.

I was waiting for the story off Fee and Trey because when she deliverd Keely's baby the sparks between them flew.

hope the next book is with Price and Tara, thinking they make an excellent pair ?

recommond this boon to all who love a good suspense story and hot alpha male specimen ;-)

I liked it... but Fee was just irritating... considering what she had gone through and what she knew of her brother's profession... she really was TSTL... BUT I have liked the rest of the series so far and couldn't justify less than 3 stars TBH.

11/03/20 On a re-read - so funny, felt exactly the same about Fee this time around too. And Keely was annoying too... with her fricking 'frick-fracking' all the fracking time. I think that if you are using a word with the same purpose as you would use a swear word it becomes one. Thus... she could've said 'fuck' and it would've been a lot less fucking annoying.

13/02/22 As above... LOL!!

I really enjoy the SSI stories. An Ill Wind is a well written story that draws you in from the first page. I love the characters. They get to be like old friends from book to book. The interactions between this group of strong women and tough sexy alpha males is always a good time that sucks you in. As usual with an SSI story I had to stay up late and finish this. Once you start you can't put it down! A quick but very enjoyable read!

I swear Fee is one of the unluckiest women I’ve ever read, plus she’s a little too stubbornly independent, but I like that in an h, and Trey is just perfect, hot Alpha, protective but gentle, caring and most of all very respectful. I’m loving this Authors work she reminds me of earlier Lisa Marie Rice.

I have enjoyed all the books until this one. This one was down right awful. Fee the leading lady of this book ruined the whole thing. She was annoying, overtly weak in character. Everyone else was great but i just wanted to shoot and kill this gal within the 1st 4 chapters and have Trey find someone else. Every single other female lead this author has written beforehand has over come their past and been strong of mind (if not physically) and not a poor me attitude, cry cry, let me do the stupid thing and then say why me poor me. Ugh. I wish i had not wasted my time reading this. Hopefully the next in the series reverts back to her better writing.
