Gemma's an ER nurse who has always made the wrong choices in love. When she saves Dominic, a mixed-martial arts fighter, from heart failure, their attraction is mutual, but she doesn't trust herself enough to give in to his charms. Dominic, on the other hand, has been haunted by a tragic past and craves intimacy even while he fears commitment.
However, Gemma's intelligence and big heart prove enough of a prize for this stoic fighter to move forward and embrace love. Once he wraps his muscular arms around Gemma, he never wants to let her go.
Saw a freebie email this morning with book two in this series. Being the anal reader that I am I had to start at book one. Since the author states she doesn't write cheating I was hopeful since I never read blind anymore. I always wonder how many #saferead stories I've missed. I am glad I gambled because this was a sweet, sexy, safe read. Both characters had some hesitations over getting serious but I loved how they kept trying and actually fell in love while learning about each other. No real outside drama. No other woman issues at all. Really good #kindleunlimited and quick read.
I truly wanted to like this story a whole lot more than I did. The premise was good, and I was really looking forward to hunkering down with a nice, sexy read, but the story just kind of fell flat. There were some parts that were headed somewhere good, but then the author pulled back just when the conflict was on the brink of becoming interesting. Even the ending came abruptly--just when it would have been nice to get any kind of glimpse of the next chapter in this couple's lives.
I loved the way Gemma and Dominic met. I thought him referring to her as "the Angel who saved his life" was sweet and so sexy. Yet, they just couldn't seem to get it together for me. I was rooting for them, but the chemistry fizzled out with their silly and confusing arguments. Sometimes they seemed like silly kids who didn't understand why they were fighting with each other. I hate when disagreements are not resolved, and none of the ones between Gemma and Dominic had any type of reasonable resolutions. They said a lot of "I'm sorrys," but no real reasons for the conflict in the first place.
*Case in point* Dominic (sort of) asked Gemma to come to his next fight, or if she would like to be there, but when she asked HIM if he WANTED her there, the question doesn't really get answered. (Yeah, I'm not sure what was happening there.) Gemma got upset because she couldn't understand why he would even ask her if he didn't really want her to show up in the first place. He just stood there and let her come to her own conclusion as to why. Gemma was so upset, she ended up hurting herself, and this led to them apologizing to each other. Later, readers hear Dominic's thoughts about the real reason he didn't want her there. It would have been nice if he had actually spoke those words out loud to Gemma and gotten her response.
There was a lot of potential simmering just beneath the surface with this story, and I was a little disappointed that I didn't love it the way I'd hope to.
"I’ll be remembered for what I stood for, not who I chose to tower over."
Don't you just love that? I like the idea of a fighter determined not to also be a bully.
This is a decent read, enjoyable in a quiet way. It's much less complicated than the synopsis suggests which is great if you're looking for a light read but does unfortunately cap the rating for me. If you're going to introduce characters with significant trauma in their backgrounds, then we really need to explore that trauma. In keeping the story light, Dazed suffers from a lack of emotional connection. There's no distinct personality and none of the intensity that I'd expect from this kind of story.
I guess I was hoping for a bit more.. I liked the story, but I felt like it just ended kind of abruptly. Nothing really happened.. don't get me wrong, I appreciate the lack of typical ridiculous angst and drama you read so often, but this just kind of skimmed the surface.
La historia fue rapida de leer... pero en serio no entiendo porq escriben libros tan cortos... senti que le falto algo al romance de la pareja como que no senti esa quimica entre ellos, algunas veces senti forzada la relacion
A quick fun story of a emergency room nurse Gemma who saved Dominic a MMA fighter. His angel!!!!! After some pursing by Dominic Gemma agrees to see where things good. They are good together in and out of the bedroom. A great story of finding your person even in the emergency room......
A quick read. Dominic is an MMA fighter who had a heart attack after his last fight. Gemma is the ER nurse who literally shocked him back to life. They become involved.
creo que podria tener potencial pero donde esta el tema de luchador MMa? en serio? gane la pelea y ya? listo! donde esta la emoción el tema? no esta enfocado bien
Quickie Read 2020: Gemma was left at the altar by Michael and her heart and bed has not been filled. Then enters Dominic the man with the body and plan to help Gemma get her groove back.
5 stars wasn't expecting this book to be absolutely powerful thinking MMA. But what I got was a deeply emotional story about two people with baggage that healed each other.
Talk about a novella that’s dull and boring. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters and everything was way over the top and ridiculous. I didn’t like the protagonists and there was absolutely no chemistry between the two. The way it began, the middle and the end, all of it did nothing for me.
Empezó muy bien. Entretenido e interesante pero ya en los últimos capítulos la trama se hizo rara y sin sentido. También me hizo falta un epílogo, aunque sea una trilogía queda el su futuro como pareja en en aire.
I was absolutely drawn in by this cover, and then let down. While this book had potential it just didn't zing for me. I liked the conflict with Gemma being a Nurse and Dominic being a MMA Fighter. However I just didn't feel this book executed what I thought it would. The way Dominic was pushing and pulling Gemma and the way she didn't seem this care bothered me as she was a stronger character than that. I was hoping for so much more than this book delivered.
