This is the third book in the series and I only read it because I purchased books 1-3 as a set.

In this book we finally found out about the aliens. Not just found out about them but the story is told from their perspective.

In order to become really immersed in a story you need to be able to imagine it. We aren't given a good enough description of the aliens to be able to picture them. For example, they have a central and two primaries which seem to be eyes of some kind. But the central works independently of the primaries and sees things differently. Different perspective? Different spectrum? I have no idea, just different. Is one eye in their forehead (do they have a forehead?) or are all three eyes in a row? Or spaced around their heads? Are they on stalks? Are they even eyes as we know them?

They have curved bony plates on their shoulders. One, two, several, large, small, overlapping, upright, flat? No idea.

Same with their civilisation. They have Families, who are part of Clans, and there is a Council but this is a completely separate thing from the Families. Each Family does one thing but that's all we know about their society.

All three books have events happen that seem to be just for shock value, except they aren't because I could never get really invested in anything that was happening.

The main storyline never progressed, it was like all 3 books were setting you up for the main story. I know there are several more books in the series but I'm done. If you can't hook me in in 3 books it isn't going to happen.

Excellent complex expansion of Humanity into space including first contact and immersive technological development. I purchased 1st set of three books. Purchased this set of three books on May 28, 2023, from Amazon for $1.06 with tax.
