This book gives a visual explanation of how to create the most common websites with WordPress; a blog, gallery, business-page and portfolio. First you will get an introduction to the set up process of WordPress including choosing a web hosting service. You will get an explanation of how to use WordPress' interface and customizing your website's appearance using "Themes". The book explains how you can add and customize pages and posts. Adding extra functionality like a contact form, email-subscription, embedding media from your own computer and from other platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and Soundcloud, to name a few. You will understand how you can easily add any extra functionality by installing "Plugins". You will get a list of the most common and popular "Themes" and "Plugins" for WordPress. The book also gives a quick introduction to HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL which are the underlaying coding languages for the Web and WordPress.
I actually was led to this from one of my free book sites on an amazon freebie day, although it is available on kindle unlimited.
I used to be a computer tech, and I actually have a wordpress account, and I messed with it for a while trying to get various plug ins and addons and whatever else, but not for anything more than out of curiosity. If you run some type of business from there, buying or selling or whatever else whatever type of merchandise or goods, this book would probably help you, but only to a certain extent. Wordpress is not the easiest or best interface to work with, in my never humble opinion, based on the fact that most do not have the computer skills or enough of those that seem necessary and also because I do have computer skills, a LOT, and found it almost impossible to find the items {add ons, plug in, etcetera} I needed, and I just wanted to use it for blogging basically.
However, having said that, at least the book was more or less correct, except in that it is not as easy as was claimed to find the right tools, although again I don't use the site for commerce of any type. There were a few times caught myself thinking hmmmm I don't think so, and was enough that gave it a 3 instead of 5 due to clarity and other issues. Worth a look if you are thinking about doing something such as using it for commerce of some type, if nothing else to give you an idea if maybe you would be over your head, need assistance, or whatever else. It is not in depth enough in some places that one would expect with a beginner's book though.
