A mysterious break-in at a bank... Some enigmatic symbols... Hidden dangers... Could the case of the 'Blind banker' be too dangerous even for Holmes and Watson to handle?
There’s a baffling break-in at a bank. Nothing is stolen or planted. There are a few enigmatic symbols drawn on the walls though. Then, people start dying and somehow everything leads back to those symbols at the bank. It’s up to Sherlock and Watson to solve this crime filled with hidden dangers.
My top three thoughts on ‘The Blind Banker’: 1. This graphic novel has to be read back to front and the frames have to be read right to left. This took some getting used to initially. I haven't read enough manga till now, so I’m not someone who can comment on styles or what’s considered the norm. Story wise, this book is a quick, entertaining read with good suspense (if you haven’t already seen the Sherlock episode). It’s well paced and the illustrations do justice to the mystery. 2. Since the work in this novel is a collaborated effort of Japanese Manga and the UK Sherlock series, the characters of Holmes and Watson resembled Cumberbatch and Freeman closely. The other characters still looked very manga. Somehow, it all seems to work and doesn’t look out of place. 3. As mentioned earlier, I'm not a regular reader or follower of the genre so I found all the ‘whirls’, ‘wind rusting’, ‘thuds’ mentioned between frames, distracting and unnecessary.
