Mikayla Blake thought she did her hometown a solid when she exorcised the demon killing her classmates. But it turns out she only pissed the demon off and forced it into her uncle's body. She's pushed to make tough decisions to save her uncle from possession, like venturing into the very place no Hunter should go: the Nether.
Lucas, her shape-shifting Sentry, isn't making things easier on her either. A constant reminder of a past she doesn't remember, he's pushing her to act on the forbidden feelings they have for each other. When Mikayla refuses to give Lucas the answers he needs, she learns that he's forced to make some tough decisions of his own.
Bio in 140 characters or less: Somewhere in the cosmic collision of life, God saw fit to make another Alabamian.
The nitty: An Alabamian who loves cheese and life. She works in a nursing home and steals stories from the elderly in exchange for sponge baths. Next year her debut YA novel, Watched, will be released.
The nitty-gritty: She grew-up in the South. Almost as far south as you can get. She says things like "y'all" and "ain't" and "shut the front door"(which is more or less an expression of shock). She married a giant man and they have one, semi-giant son who's sometimes called Cluckey or The Child. During the daytime hours she works in a nursing home with the elderly.(Side note: She wants to inform you never, under any circumstances, be late for a sponge bath or try to take their dentures. The elderly are very protective of their dentures.)At night, she churns out stories and conspires to take over the world from the confines of her computer room.
Some quick and dirty facts: 1. She once severed her pinky toe and had it sewn back on. 2. Her worst vice is the use of four letter words. In public. Around children.(Rest assured, she is getting a handle on this.) 3. Since sixteen, she's had over thirty speeding tickets. She's twenty-four and counting, by the way. 4. Her wisdom teeth are intact. 5. She's had several affairs on her husband. All were with dairy products and various forms of cheese. 6. Sharde is lactose intolerant. 7. She likes to visit cemeteries. 8. One year, Sharde won a trip to Hawaii by guessing the mystery flavor of a Starburst. 9. Sometimes she buys groceries barefoot. 10. She is neither an Alabama nor Auburn College football fan. 11. Sharde once wet her pants in a Chinese restaurant after laughing at one of her husband's jokes. 12. As a kid, her favorite TV show was Bonanza. Ah, the joys of being reared by grandparents. 13. She's an American without all the fancy prefixes. 14. There are random notes all over her house with unfinished scenes from stories. Or from her dreams. 15. Sometimes she eavesdrops on other people's conversations to make her dialogue sound authentic. 16. She write stories that she likes to read. She knows that this is selfish. 17. Sharde laughs at gore. Case in point: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 film was another instance in which she wet her pants. 18. No other voice but Sam Elliot's could narrate her life.
The wait is almost over for this sequel! I really missed these characters and this world. Mikayla is one of the funniest narrators in any YA book I've ever read.

Touched by Sharde Richardson is book two in her Mikayla Blake Demon Hunter series. In book two Mikayla is dealing with coming to terms with her demon hunting abilities and her attraction to Lucas. She’s exorcised a demon but not well and now it has come back and possessed someone near and dear to her…her uncle. Lucas tells her that this time she must kill the demon and whoever it inhabits but Mikayla refuses because that’s her uncle and she can’t do that. During the fight with the demon she uses her Speak on Lucas and is caught by the demon herself. When Mikayla goes to try and fade herself and the demon somewhere else so that she can have more time to try and figure out what to do the demon gets into her mind and instead influences where Mikayla fades and it’s nowhere on earth. They end up in the Nether and it’s not a place for Mikayla or her uncle. Mikayla quickly finds herself neck deep and sinking fast in trouble but somehow she gets back but now she’s marked, her uncle is in a coma and it’s no ordinary coma. However, things only get worse from there. Her friend Orchid is still avoiding her, demons are actively hunting her now and her number of demon kills is limited. She learns more about Sentries and how things are with them. Mikayla has a lot on her with deadlines looming on what she will do and consequences to her actions and inactions. How will it all end and will she survive it? Touched is the first book I’ve read by Sharde Richardson and I have to say that I really enjoyed this story. Even though this is book two in the series the author does a really good job at making it very easy to pick up and really understand what is going on for the most part. Granted you don’t know what all happened in book one with Mikayla and Lucas meeting and going from there but you really get the attraction that is so magnetic between them and you just question why Mikayla battles it so much and whether she’s really willing to just lose all that because she wants to “be sure it’s real.” The characters are really well written and I love the dynamics of each one and how they all bring the story together and how well it flows. Mikayla isn’t perfect but she does have really good characteristics that make her a decent friend to want and have in your corner. The only thing that I don’t really like is how rebellious and stubborn Mikayla is. She knows that she and Lucas have this bond and that there is something more between them but she fights it so hard because on a level she thinks that it’s not real. Then I don’t like how she just acts without thinking about the consequences to her actions and how those very consequences will affect those around her. She thinks very short term and in that moment. I really didn’t like her keeping secrets from Lucas especially when it was something that he really needed to know. I also don’t get the why everyone so blindly follows Cyrius and never questions him really. I want to know why and what the story is behind that. Touched is a really unique and engaging paranormal story. I love the variety of creatures and characters that the author brings together to make this story. It brings you in and keeps you engaged the whole way through. You’ll feel the characters emotions like they were your very own from annoyance with Mikayla to irritation with Sable and her father to love and even heartbreak. This was a book that when I wasn’t reading it I was wanting to know what happened next. I can’t wait for the next book in this series and I will most definitely be going back and reading the first book in this series. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book for review.
I remember reading book one and crying, "when will book two be finished!?!" So Happy the wait is over! Even If you haven't read book 1, which I highly advise you do!, book 2 keeps you in the loop extremely well. Not too long, but not short at all. Mikayla really knows how to make you want to slap her! She drove me crazy! Luckily she has the wonderful Lucas Long there to keep her in line. His level headed, take no mess, right to the point Alpha attitude is beyond hot. Swoon! Can't wait for book three!
This is such a great book, that the author keeps you wanting to read more and I didn't want to put it down, but I've only given it four stars as it's one of those books that I feel you need to have read the previous book to fully understand everything and truthfully it is really hard not giving this book five stars when it is so good, and I would probably have overlooked the need to have read the previous book if it hadn't ended on a real cliff hanger. I get why authors do it, but as a reader it damn annoying having to wait for the next book to find out will they or won't they? Mikayla Blake is a demon hunter and thought she'd done good when she exercised the demon killing her classmates. But it turns out she only pissed it off and forced it into her uncle's body, she is pushed to make a tough decision to save her uncle. Lucas her shapeshifting sentry isn't making things easier for her. He is a constant reminder she can't remember her past and he is pushing her to act on feelings they have for each other. When Mikayla refuses to give Lucas answers he needs, she learns he is forced to make some tough decisions of his own. I voluntarily read this book to review it.
(I received this book free in exchange for my honest review)
My heart is in a vice, this book is everything I love about reading and more. Fast pace action, epic fight scenes, blood, messy and evil.
Mikayla is a tough SOB. She's her own person; I love her snarky and witty nature and her unfiltered responses. The only thing I can fault her for is her stubbornness about her own feelings and fighting said feelings. I didn't like how she kept secretes form Lucas or how she tends to not think before she acts. She doesn't see pass the now and that's how shit storms happen, which is basically the hole premises of this book. Her actings cause someone close to her to be possessed and that possessions can only be fixed by death. She can't and then that dreaded snowball effect happens.
I do get that she's still technically a teen and new to the whole demon hunting thing, but, she needs to start growing up, not jump ahead and learn to plan. Which I'm sure will come as we get more into this series. I like it when the main characters grow. And sometimes that involves fucking up royalty.
Other then that, I'm in love with this series. As I said it's fast pace, full of action and lots of yummy tension between our kick ass lead and the hot Lucas. I don't know how Sharde did it, but I could feel it through the book making me want to knock their heads together. And be like "Get on with it!" hahah.....
I highly recommend this book, this series, it's on a whole nother level of unique. It will take you into a world like no other and have you biting your nail as the blood flows.
