“Roland Martin’s 101 Bass Catching Secrets” Roland Martin is a book full of information about bass and how to catch bass. He himself is a professional fisherman and he talks about every scenario that I can think of, even fly fishing! Anyone who is looking for new tactics out fishing on the water for bass needs to read this book. If you don’t want to read this goliath of a book there is a very descriptive table of contents so you can read only the information you want but I recommend reading the entire thing. This book has a whopping 429 pages and every sentence is useful when fishing on the water for bass. The title of this book is an understatement “Roland Martin’s 101 Bass Catching Secrets” has a lot more than 101 ideas on how to catch bass.

Roland split this book into 5 main sections. In “NINE BEHAVIORAL REASONS WHY BASS STRIKE” I learned that sometimes you can get a bass to strike just because another fish is looking at the lure. The section ”LURES AND LIVE BAIT” is set up where it describes the lure or bait then tells you at least 3 different ways to use that lure or bait. ”TECHNIQUE PATTERNS” talks about different techniques then goes in depth on what rigs to use with each technique. The section ”SHALLOW STRUCTURE” and ”DEEP STRUCTURE” are about different kinds of underwater structures and the best way to fish them without losing your lure.

The book itself is good, it’s nice to hear some stories from the master himself, but I was a little frustrated with the presentation as it comes thru on Alexa, because that’s how I read my books now all the time. Either by audible or just having Alexa read the Kindle book to me a little bit each day, which is how I read this one. However, Alexa seemed confused about the divisions in chapters and so if I missed something and asked her to rewind one chapter she would just ignore me and keep reading or rewind to the very start of the book, in which case I would have to tell her to fast forward and then she would go to the end lol or do nothing at all. I found a fix for it, but it’s kind of a pain and unnecessary, but basically when I could finally get her to shut up over my speaker I would open to the page I need on my iPad and then start her reading on the page. After a paragraph or so, I could stop that, then ask Alexa (speaker Alexa, which is actually called Echo to avoid confusion lol) to open kindle and she would start right where she left off on the page. Other than that, I very much enjoyed it, but hope Mr. Martin takes us Alexa readers more into consideration on his next book! See ya, Son!

I enjoyed this book because it taught me things that I did not know about bass fishing. However, the pace of the book was slow when it should have been faster. Instead of telling these long stories, just get right to the main point. ALso, many lakes discussed in this book are not in california, it would be nice to have experience from a more local person.
