Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework.

After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels.

She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies.

Can I just say the Harlequin Nocturne novel covers are consistently beautiful? The staged photography and colouring are above par. I'd buy all the books for the covers alone.

That said, this was an enjoyable and light read. In a way it reminds me of Adrian's and Ward's urban worlds, but that's not to discredit Vanak's attempt; I like her world better, if not just as much. At least there are few weird names to confuse me or whatnot.

My only quibble I suppose would be to have known what Jamie and Damian's relationship was initally like before they found themselves again, to find out more about why Jamie felt compelled to kill Damian. Perhaps in flashback form or something like that.

What a difference one book can make. Enemy Lover isn't perfect, but it's a big improvement over "Broken Souls." This book had a lot of action, a lot of heart, and a lot of really hot sexy times.

The book begins with Damian on the hunt for Jamie, his destined mate. We learned in The Empath that Jamie was in league with the evil Morphs, trying to learn magic. She even helped them with their plan to try and kill Damian. Fortunately, that didn't work out. But despite her betrayal, Damian wants her. Because they are destined to share a bond, no other woman will do.

Destiny or not, Jamie has no plans to mate with Damian. She saw him kill her brother years ago and she has hated him ever since. But he is the only one who can help her fight a curse laid on her by the Morphs. Despite her protests, the two end up working together to hunt for an old book of magic that could contain the spell to save her. And of course, that time spent together lays the groundwork for the development of their relationship.

The sexual tension between these two is off the charts. Poor Damian wants to sleep with Jamie so badly. But over and over, he pushes down his needs, to please her. The man deserved to get lucky way before he did and frankly, I thought he had the patience of a saint.

I wasn't a big fan of Jamie. Granted, she is young, but she makes some excruciatingly bad decisions. She teamed up with the Morphs; she tried to kill Damian; she put him and herself in danger over and over. And she refused to accept the hard truths about her brother. I didn't really think she deserved Daiman. Yeah, yeah... she's damaged. (The backstory with the cat was fit for a horror movie.) But it didn't garner enough sympathy in me to forgive her constant stupidity.

Overall, I did like the book, though. The world building continues to broaden. And the story introduces us to Daiman's adopted family, the Robichauxs, who will be featured in future installments. Plus, when Damian and Jamie finally get around to doing the deed... Well, you may want to have a bucket of ice water handy. Rraw.

I really liked this book. I knew that I would just because of the storyline, as I love heroes in pursuit, and I love characters who are flawed and somewhat antiheroes. The heroine, Jamie, falls in that category. She had infected Damian with a disease in the first book, and was in cahoots with the badguys, the degenerate Morphs, in the first book. But in this book, you realize what her motivations are and can view her sympathetically. I enjoyed Damian's tenderness towards Jamie, and his realization that he mucked up things between them the first time around. I admired his determination to protect her and his refusal on giving up having her as his mate. The characters in this book are well-drawn and real. They have painful pasts and are deeply drawn to each other. That's always appealing to me. Jamie's trust issues are understandable considering the horrors she endured from her family in the past. I was glad she found Damian and became a part of his large, loving family. I liked Damian's adoptive family, Cajun werewolves, who happen to be bikers also. I guess because of my family issues, I am always drawn to stories where characters find a sense of belonging and family, even if they didn't always have this. I enjoyed the first book, although I was a bit uncertain about the mythology and worldbuilding. But I must say I really felt that Ms. Vanak found her stride in this world she created, and made me long to read more books set in the world of the Draicon, and read more books with the characters introduced in Enemy Lover, Damian's adoptive brothers.

I read and reviewed Ms. Vanak’s first werewolf Nocturne, The Empath, last year and absolutely loved it. That’s where we first meet Damian and Jamie, the hero and heroine of this book. While I enjoyed most of Enemy Lover, it didn’t quite capture me the way The Empath did.

Jamie witnessed Damian and his men kill her brother, so she’s out for revenge. She has no magick of her own, something she’s always wanted and now something she needs. Contacting Kane, a Morph leader, he gifts her with dark magick so she can carry out her vendetta. Thinking her plan worked and Damian is no more, she’s taken by surprise when he surfaces and claims her as his mate. She’s now on the run from him but finds that nothing will keep him from her. Nothing except death.

Time is working against Damian as he hunts for Jamie. Kane exacted his own sense of justice and cast a death spell on Jamie, a slow and painful death, and Damian cast his own magick to bind her to him, but even that connection will not keep her death at bay forever. He has to make her see they’re meant to be together, she’s meant to be by his side as alpha, but she’s running scared not just of him but something else in her past. There’s also powerful magick within Jamie and as much as she wants to use it, it’s his nature to protect those he loves, especially when he’s failed in that once before.

As with Nicolas in The Empath, I really liked Damian’s character, alpha draicon, tortured by his past, needing family in his life and protecting them no matter what. He’s sensitive when it comes to Jamie’s fears but refuses to give up his need to protect. That’s just who he is. What fell a little short for me is Jamie. I know at first she’s afraid what Damian will do to her if he catches up with her, plus issues from her past, but after he does find her and he does nothing further to make her fear him, I was disappointed that she kept pushing him away as long as she did. I was well past three-quarters of the book before she finally thinks about trusting him and what she could have with him. I wanted that so much sooner because there was nothing more Damian could have done to assure her of his feelings, of how he and his family would treat her.

Other than that, this is still a great read. I enjoyed all the other characters, especially Damian’s brothers and his relationship with them. The mystery of the Book of Magick, which held the answer to Jamie’s plight, was interesting, and even the twist at the end caught me off guard. This is a fun series and I hope Ms. Vanak is going to give us more stories of the characters we’ve met so far.

4.5 actually. I am starting to really like the Harlequin Nocturnes and I rarely ever read Harlequins. Because to me they are all the same. But the Nocturnes are different in one way or another

This is my first book from this series and my first book by this author, and even though I know I shouldn't have expected much, it turned out to be worst than I thought I'd be.

I mean, I laughed most of the book off, because if I didn't I'd be annoyed most of it.

Jamie... poor Jamie, I think she did some good things by the end of the book (and I'm being considerate here). Also, she was ALWAYS excited! lol She came out of the excitement Damian made her feel, only to be excited again by something new...

And Damian... he tried to be the "perfect male" but sometimes, the things he said to her, instead of reasuring, I found incredibly frightening... so did she, but then she melted when he looked at her...

What can I say? I couldn't take it seriously because there were too many inconsistent things and the terminology is rather funny, I mean, draicarion? draicara? Really?

*Spoiler Alert*

But, he never really punished her, so... that earned this book 2 stars!

Leaving off from the last story, Damian, healed now from his sickness, goes after the woman who tried to kill him, who also happens to be his destined mate. Jamie's on the run from Damian, he took her virginity and appeared to have left her the next morning and hell hath no fury... She also witnessed him and his buddies killing her brother. And of course, now that she's no longer teamed up with the morphs, they're trying to kill her too. Damian is going after her, not because he loves her, but because she's his mate and that makes her pack, family...and in family, nobody gets left behind. Ohana. Damian has his work cut out for him, trying to get Jamie to trust him, trying to find the book of spells that holds the cure for the poison that is killing her, trying to figure out why New Orleans is run over with Morphs and trying to overcome his own personal childhood demons.

This story is full of angst and rawring, possessive alpha-maleness (mine, mine, mine!). I liked Damian quite a bit, tortured soul that he is, but some of his possessiveness borders on thinking of her as a possession, which I didn't like so much. Jamie irritated just a bit. She bordered on TSTL, what with waltzing out into New Orleans to meet a stranger when she knows there are Morphs after her and using up her magick just for fun when she's explicitly been told doing so would rapidly expedite her death. She also has more neuroses and insecurities than you can shake a stick at. She had a troubled childhood and it sounded pretty awful, but I got a bit tired of her self-pity when it came to feeling sorry for herself about her own choices. It was like, woe is me, I became an evil bitch and tried to kill my ex-lover. And she blew hot and cold. What kind of woman gets a tattoo of her mate in wolf form on her back, claiming she'll be his forever and then leaves him the next day?

One thing this author did very well was the angst at the end. . The scene was rather well written, just saying.

One thing this author struggles with is universe continuity - in the first book, you could smell a Morph a mile away. In this book apparently you can stand directly in front of one, or carry one in your arms back to the house and never know what they were. This is pretty incredible given a wolf's sense of smell and the fact that Morphs smell like rotting garbage. And Rafe (boy I want his story) apparently is immortal and the only Draicon who can kill another of his kind without retribution, and yet Damian nearly killed a lone Draicon in this same story. And if you kill a relative apparently, you become a morph...which takes me back to the previous novella with Baylor...why didn't he turn into a morph when he killed his brother? Nicolas was all kinds of concerned that he'd have to kill his uncle and that he'd turn into a morph. See, the rules keep changing here...I like these stories very much, but I'm very detail oriented, and this sort of thing just prickles at the back of my mind and I can't let it go.

Seruuu... [image error] meskipun ceritanya agak kurang mengerti,,karena masa lalu antara damian dan jamie tidak dijelaskan secara rinci disini.... [image error]

Sikap possive damian dari awal cerita membuat unsur romatismenya agak ngambang,,,,(ikatan antara jamie ma damian berasa kurang [image error] )

tapi pada intinya Damian mengingatkanku pada Edward Cullen,,,meskipun ini Versi Lebih Hot [image error] , Secara Damian kan emg dituntut untuk berpasangan dengan Draicara-nya a.k.a Jamie)

Damian claims Jaime as his draciara which is a female mate to a werewolf. Jamie is only out to get revenge on Damian because she believes that he murdered her brother. However, Jamie does not know the whole story and in her quest for revenge she goes into black magic. She ends up having black spell put on her and she is slowly turning to stone. Damian has to gain Jamie's trust, convince her that she belongs to him, and find out how Jamie's spell can be reversed. Pretty decent read.

Draicon Werewolf Damian Marcel is an alpha, warring with the Morphs (who are out to annihilate the werewolves and who can take on any form - even insects)... Jamie Walsh (his draicara) his mate, a human...

They joined in a passionate night a year ago... but he left her to fight the Morphs, not anticipating that her Morph brother would destroy the note he left her... he is tracking her in New Orleans.

She in the meantime, abused by step father and siblings (where they branded her back with the word witch), tolerated but not loved by her indifferent brother, she is lonely... and when her lover abandons her after one night and then she witnesses him and his pack killing/tearing apart her brother, she joins the Morphs with the promise of power... but their black/blood magic isn't what she wants either... and unbeknownst to her, they infected her with a spell that is turning the black magic she learned into making her body change to stone...

and finally Damien finds her.. and he won't leave her again... though he carries his own guilt over the death of his family, when he was 12 and shifted for the first time, and irresponsibly stayed out all night to find his family murdered by Morphs the next day... so even though compelled to be with Jamie, to protect her, he is working to keep his heart separate from her...

and together, with time, respect, gentleness they start to trust one another with their secrets... and hunt to find the magic book hidden by his father that will release her from the spell that is killing her...
