The Stone Brothers #2

Stone Promises

Rate this book
We were childhood friends.
Me and the boy who would grow up to become Hollywood's hottest star.

When I was six - I fell for him at the bus stop.

When I was fifteen - he moved away, taking my heart with him.

When I was twenty-four - he came back for me even though I didn't want him.

The nine years we spent apart, I tried like hell to fill the void.

Apparently, so did he.
Instead of being addicted to me, he became addicted to women, drugs, and money.

So when he showed up on my doorstep offering me everything I'd ever dreamed of - him, I couldn't help but think of the age old idiom:
Be careful what you wish for.

Note to reader: This series can easily be enjoyed out of order.
Stone Promises can be read as a standalone novel. It is the second book in a series that follows three brothers.

Despite the fact that she is a romance writer, Samantha Christy's favorite television show of all time is The Walking Dead.

And contrary to the fact that her heroines drink things like wine and Cosmos, she prefers Bud Light.

She also loves fan mail and answers all of it.

She went to college and all that, getting a degree in something she never uses. She's also got a gaggle of kids (4) and a pretty decent husband.

It was all just too perfect. It’s a fantasy written as fiction with a boring as hell heroine and a perfect swoony over the top hero. The whole thing felt beige, no pops in dialogue or an exciting plot twist, until the very end, at 91% and even that was nonsensical to me, especially after trudging through this HOPING something good was on the next page. I really enjoyed the first book about older brother Ethan but this one bored me. I think I’ll put the third Stone brothers book on the back burner.

I loved the first book in the Stone Brothers series but this one was a tad too long and I didn't really like Chad like I did Ethan!!!! So disappointing and dull.

Samantha Christy has done it again!

Stone Promises is the second book in the Stone Brothers series. This one features Chad (or Thad), who reconnects with his childhood best friend/love, Mallory, after having moved away and established himself as a successful and sought-after Hollywood actor. They gave plenty of obstacles to get over (past mistakes, distance, etc), but their problems are overshadowed by the love they have for each other.

This was a quick read, just enough angst without it being over the top, and full of love! I definitely recommend! I can't wait for Kyle's story next!

Stone Promises is Book 2 in the series, and can be read as a standalone.

Mallory was six years old when she met Chad and they became best friends. In their teens, Chad’s parents moved him away and sadly they lost touch. Mallory became a teacher and Chad became one of the world’s most popular actors. Mallory never got over the boy she loved and as it turns out, Chad felt the same way. Now he’s back and Chad’s offering Mallory the world and all her dreams comes true. Will Mallory be brave enough to give Chad a chance?

I loved Chad. He was such a sweetheart and he desperately wanted Mallory and the life they could have. Once he decided he wanted Mallory back and saw that he might have a chance, he went full in and was determined not to give up. I liked Mallory too, and I was glad she took the chance to get to know Chad again and to be strong enough to deal with all the false media that followed his celebrity status.

This was a sweet story with fun characters and a happy ending. Stone Rules is the first in the series, which I need to go back and read. Stone Vows will be the next due out this summer.

Samantha Christy is an excellent writer. I've read all of her books, and she's an auto-buy for me. She writes well-crafted stories with great characters, and I love the interconnectedness of the books in her series. It's great to see characters we know and love from previous books again.

A promise kept!

Mallory and Chad were destined to be. Even though years have passed. They find their way back to one another despite all the interference. I really enjoyed this one. It goes to show that time and distance can't prevent what's meant to be! I couldn't stand that conniving Heather or Paul!

Excellent

An excellent story of an A-list actor trying to live a normal life and put his past issues behind him. A very well done story.

As I finish each book I read by Samantha Christy, I swear it is the best of all of her books, and that holds true for Stone Promises. Mallory and Chad were inseparable growing up, until Chad was discovered at a mall when he was in high school. He went from being an ordinary boy to Hollywood superstar overnight, leaving Mallory in the dust. When Chad sees Mallory in a crowd when he is back in NY, he realizes how determined he is to get his girl back. Of course we can't get to a HEA without a LOT of obstacles thrown in the way. I absolutely loved this book and would give it more than five stars if I could!

I was provided an ARC of this book so that I might leave an honest review.

Samantha Christy has invited us back into the world of the Stone brothers and what a wonderful trip it is!

Chad Stone is busy with his life as a famous, successful movie actor when Mallory, his childhood crush comes back into his life. One chance encounter and that is enough for Chad to decide he can't let her get away again. Starting with the idea that friendship is possible, Chad tries to convince Mallory to take a chance on him. Due to issues in their past, Mallory is reluctant to let Chad back into her life. It is up to Chad to break down her walls and show her that love can prevail and they were always meant to be.

I enjoyed the fact that this story is told from both sides from the beginning. Chad was very vulnerable and anxious to do anything to get Mallory to give him a chance. It was sweet to see this side of him. It was also touching to read Mallory's side and her reluctance to turn her world upside down for the wold of movies, paparazzi, and girl fandom. Reading about how the two of them come together after years of being apart makes a great story.

I loved getting to be back in the world of the Stone brothers combined with the Mitchell sisters. I enjoy this group of characters immensely and I look forward to reading about them again in Kyle's story.

Gotta admit, not the best start for a novel...
A guy, your best friend, who leaves and then distances himself from you, who gets lost in stardom and forgets about his past life, that is, his friends not his family of course .

A guy who is tempted by a new lifestyle, who becomes a victim only to then try to get his former self back. But of course he isn't mature enough to contact the girl he hurt years before. He is a coward, and only after seeing her does he realize that he has feelings for her.. Argh. I hate that. Why couldn't it have been his idea to look for her after he has his life together again ??? Yes granted it wasn't hers either but still...
Anyways, didn't like that about him..

And Mal? Well girl.. You say you don't like him, yet your actions tell us the opposite. Why didn't you at least try to shut him out? He broke your heart and you calmly accept him back? I am annoyed... But then I have to admit as well that she doesn't let him in easily...

Anyways other than that it was definitely a good novel. I read until 3 am so that has to mean something.

True, I don't like that our hero keeps omitting the truth... that our heroine is so self conscious and that she constantly looks her bf up on gossip sites...

But I simply liked that he didn't give up on her
Also, all the minor characters were a huge plus. :-)

So all in all, I can recommend. :-)

Ok so I enjoyed this but at the same time I am a little disappointed 
I absolutely loved The Mitchell Sisters series and Stone Rules but this one for me didn’t have that same edge that kept me page turning and to be honest there were times I found this a little dull :(

For the most part I liked Mallory however she did get on my nerves at times. There are two points in the book where she could have been an adult and talked to Chad, she could have said hang on a minute there Chad WTF are you playing at!! But noooo she ran away……………that really irritated me!
As for Chad I did like him and he worked his ass off to get back into Mallory’s good graces. He bent over backward and would have literally given her the moon if he could have.

I liked the catch up with Ethan and the Mitchell’s that was good, Ethan is my favourite Stone so far but I’m looking forward to what Kyle brings to the table.

I would give this a 3.5. It is well written and the pace and flow of the story were good but I wasn't totally in love with the characters. I liked that Chad tried to romance her - she deserved that at the very least - but I found it difficult to forgive him for leaving her in the first place. With no contact. Zero. And he should have started with an apology and freaking OWNED that, and I don't believe he did. It was incidental seeing her again - would they be together now otherwise? No. For someone who was in love and had already found his soulmate you would think as soon as he became sober, he would be pursuing the fuck out of her. So he disappointed me.
But I have to say this is still a good book - I would like to read the others in the series as those Stone brothers are yummy.

I wouldn't say I didn't like this one so much as I'd say it was slow and boring and had a lot of drama that didn't make much sense. This is book 2 in the Stone Brothers series. Chad Stone is a big time hollywood actor and realizes he's never quite gotten over the girl next door, Mallory. A chance sighting of her one night sends him on a mission to win her back. He does win her back, but things aren't all smooth sailing after that. When she's pushed into the spotlight, she has to figure out if it's all worth it. Particularly when he has to work with sexy co-stars who he used to date. Like I said, kind of slow and boring compared to the other books that lead up to this.

The closer I got to the end, I found myself increasingly skimming more pages. I guess that's an indication on how engaged I was. The development of the plot was shallow and I didn't really connect with both of the characters so I wasn't really immersed in the story. In all fairness, I did enjoy the author's writing style, but the story - not so much

Please can I have my own Chad Stone?

Wow... what a story! Just like the first book in the Stone Brothers series, I couldn’t put this book down.

It’s not often that two characters are instantly likeable but Mallory and Chad are just that. They are both adorable and you are cheering them both on from the first time they meet in this beautiful tale of a friendship that was always meant to blossom into something more but didn’t get the chance.

Mallory is a down-to-earth, girl next door school teacher. Her life is normal and ordinary but it’s how she likes it. She doesn’t like drawing attention to herself and is quite content living with her father in their suburban home. She’s not had the best life since her best friend (and secret crush), Chad left for LA to pursue an acting career when he was 17... and by all accounts he was no longer the same boy he once was when they were young children... but a chance glimpse of him at a VIP event brings back every feeling she had for him... but can she possibly forgive him for what he did?

Chad ‘Thad’ Stone is a successful a-list actor. An army of fans and paparazzi follow his every move and he’s Hollywood’s hottest property. Linked romantically with a list of his leading ladies, it seems to the rest of the world that he is living the dream... but all is not what it appears. He loves his career but not the lifestyle it has provided. Sure he’s wealthy beyond imagination and he could have any woman he wants, but there has only ever been one woman he wanted... his childhood friend... Mallory.

When he spots her amongst the crowd outside a New York club, he feels the pull towards the love he once had. It’s been 9 years since they last spoke and it hadn’t ended well. Chad’s life spiralled into a drug fuelled life of partying and debauchery after he left New York. But that was his old life. Rehab had helped him get clean and start living... he just needs to convince Mallory that he’s a changed his ways.

As they rekindle their friendship it becomes blatantly obvious that there is far more to their relationship than just friends. The more they talk and reconnect the deeper their love grows until soon there is no doubt that they cannot live without each other.

Of course though, this is Hollywood and the price of fame is often a high one to pay. The paparazzi spin their lies, and it’s hard to know who you can trust... but with the help of their family and friends their bond becomes so strong that no one will ever come between them... even though many will try. Right up to the end you are waiting for that one crazed fan or ex-lover to ruin everything... will their love survive the tests that are thrown their way?

It’s a heartwarming, tear jerking, stomach clenching story and there’s some fantastic parts that leave you giggling, sighing, crying. The lead characters are brilliant and I honestly want my very own Chad Stone... so sweet and completely committed to the woman who has his heart.

Can’t wait to read the next instalment. If the next Stone brother is anything like Chad and Ethan... I’ll be in love with him too!!

(English review below)

** ENGLISH REVIEW RIGHT HERE ***

It was a very good book! Even better than volume 1. It's very very"cheesy" though. As soon as the Hero finds his lost youth's love, he is 100% committed to this relationship. He makes real efforts to win her back and seems very sincere in his approach. He's had a difficult past and he's motivated more than ever to settle comfortably into a serious relationship with someone who loves him for who he really is; not for the famous person he's become over the years (... and after a few blockbuster movies).

So it's one more classic story every time the summary is "a celebrity courts an un famous person": the paparazzi, the (false) rumors of cheating, the fans out of control, the publicists against this "evil union" bc it's bad for the image of the bachelor, the difficulties related to filming schedules, doubts AND EVERYTHING ELSE that is always there. There is nothing new, I confirm that. However, it was very good nonetheless because I enjoyed every minute of this audio. The narrators, by the way, did a terrific job.

In other words : it's a very good book and I highly recommend it!

Stone Promises is the second book in the Stone Brothers trilogy. It is written in the first person narrative, alternating between our hero, Chad Stone, and our heroine, Mallory Schaeffer, with each chapter.
Chad Stone, or Thad Stone, is a movie star discovered at a young age when he sweet talked a store owner out of busting his younger brother for shop lifting. Overhearing the conversation, a talent scout got him is first roll and Chad shot to stardom… but with fame came troubles. When he came of age, nothing stood in the way of the money, women, and drugs that surrounded him. Mistakes were made, promises broken, and friends were pushed aside in his new life of fame and fortune. Now many years later, he is drug-free, but Chad is still dealing with the fallout from the mistakes he made when he was not. While he wants to move forward, his publicist works hard to clean up the press coverage of his past.
The book opens with Chad attending a party in celebration of the release of his latest movie. A face in the crowd causes Chad to pause, as it is one of the friends from his youth that was pushed aside. A woman he always loved… even when she was only childhood friend.
Mallory Schaeffer dreamed of stardom as a child, but losing her best friend to fame had her following a different career path into teaching. As an elementary school teacher in her home town, Mallory is able to stay in the home she grew up in with her father. Life is normal, routine, and away from the prying eyes of the press… then Chad comes back into her life. With past hurts still feeling fresh, Mallory is not quick to let Chad back into her life, but he is determined to make up for the promises he broke.
Fall in love with these characters and this book as Chad and Mallory remember experiences from their childhood, overcome challenges as adults, and prove that love just grows stronger with age.

Chad and Mallory

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Stone Promises by Samantha Christy. Stone Brothers, book two. Audiobook borrowed through Audible Escapes. Dual POV. Dual narration. It starts 3 months after book one. It's listed as 10 hours 25 minutes; I listened to it at speed 2.50 for 4 hours 10 minutes. Narrators Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon both read well, but they're a bit halting in their pace. Content warnings: drugs; gambling; fighting; death caused by a drunk driving accident; amputation caused by an accident from driving under the influence; OW drama; PCP slipped into a drink and used to seduce; miscarriage.

Chad put his California home up for sale and plans to move to New York to be with Mallory. A teddy bear was eviscerated on Mallory's dad's porch. Swoony & Steamy Second Chance Romance

And once again, Samantha Christy brings all the feels in book two of her Stone Brothers series, Stone Promises. I instantly fell in love with Mallory, and Chad had already been working his way into my heart just from his brief appearances in book one. Sinking into their second chance was a beautiful and heartfelt rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Not quite as angsty as Christy’s other novels, Stone Promises brought so many layers of heartwarming emotions. That’s not to say there’s no angst, oh, there definitely is, but what truly drew me in to this novel was Chad’s dedication to making things right, and Mallory’s determination to seeing it through.

Chad is so incredibly swoonworthy, and it has nothing to do with his movie star persona. It’s about how he deals with everything life throws at him, how he pampers and supports Mallory, how he works so incredibly hard to be the person she needs him to be. And Mallory, well, shoot, serious girl crush going on here! She is such a deeply layered character, but so true to herself, and so down to earth. She is truly easy to fall for.

Christy does an amazing job of setting the scene, giving readers insights into their past together, their past apart, and their here-and-now as they navigate their new normal as a couple. Everything in this book moves their story forward, propelling them to an HEA that is definitely Hollywood worthy.

Once again, Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon bring the characters to life with impeccable tone, inflection, and pacing. They did a wonderful job of building the characters through their storytelling, creating a movie of the mind I was reluctant to leave.

Stone Promises can be enjoyed as a standalone, but I recommend reading or listening to the series in order to get the full picture of the brothers and their interconnected lives.

3.5 Stars.

I have been going one-click crazy over the last few months and this book was one of those clicks. I'm not sure whether it was either on sale, free or it was recommended to me, but it was next up on my kindle shelf so I began reading. Having not read the first book in the series and I didn't remember reading the synopsis, I was going in completely blind. Luckily, once I realised what this story was about, I found that I was enjoying the premise and I was looking forward to what was to come.

"Every time I close my eyes, I see him. Every time I fall asleep,
I dream of him. Every waking hour, I try to forget him"

"Stone Promises" was a childhood friends, second chance kind of romance between Hollywood heartthrob Chad Stone and his childhood best friend and first love, Mellory. I really liked this sweet couple and I became quickly invested in their relationship. I loved Chad and Mallory's scenes together. Their story was dreamy and romantic. I enjoyed what was happening between the pair, however there was also parts of the story that I didn't enjoy quite as much and that affected the flow for me. It wasn't so much as to what was playing out, but it was one particular character that I just couldn't take to. I didn't like or trust this person and I was sure that this character was set to cause trouble.

“I’ll promise you anything. I promise you everything.
Just promise me you’ll always be mine.”

Overall, this was good standalone read with a lovely epilogue that made my day.

I knew it!!!!!! I just knew it!!!!
Chad, Mallory and Julian were the best of friends from age 6 & 7. They were inseparable until Chad moved away cross country with his Mom & Dad and brother Kyle and Julian left the country. Life goes on until life happens.
Wow Hollywood is definitely full of sharks. Chad Stone at age 16 or maybe 17 was discovered by Hollywood and thrown into the spotlight. As a teenager with gobs of money, all the women he could ever want and all the drugs he could ever use he made some very very bad life choices. He stopped communicating with Mallory and Julian and just went off the rails. Rehab and three years later he cleaned up his life. And one fateful night spotted the love of his life standing in a crowd trying to get out of the way. What a fabulous story and not all of it is happy but love prevails. Chad and Mallory had evil working against them. I'll just say his manager Paul and that sicko Heather should be put away for life. When things seemed to be going so well the predictable happened and I just know it would. But you have two possible villains Heather or Courtney. This is definitely a book worth reading. I think the big surprise or surprises in this read were Mallory's Dad and Julian. HAHAHAHAHA that's all I'm going to say. Grab you copy today, in fact grab the entire Stone series/trilogy. Three books three brothers

This book follows Thad/Chad, a movie star and Mallory, his love from childhood. It isn't exactly a second-chance romance because they didn't really have a romance when they were younger although they were in love with each other. Fast forward approx a decade later, they meet again and Chad realizes she's the love of his life. Now, can he get her to believe it and to forgive his past?

This book deals with some heavy issues that i'm positive many actors have to deal with- paparazzi overstating things, framing incorrect situations, having hidden agendas. Chad's past is the biggest issue as it comes to bite him in the bum multiple times. But an HEA is to be had so stick with it. I loved his unwavering dedication to Mallory and found it very romantic. However, there were parts that dragged so I think it could have been shortened a bit.

I listened to the audiobook and supplemented with KU. Jason Clarke was great although I thought he sounded a bit more muffled and low key in this book than I usually remember him being. Erin Mallon was great. There were some audio inconsistencies- a few places where the sound quality shifted a bit (maybe it was my bose headsets?) But overall, I am excited that I got to listen to this story through audible escape!

Great book!!

When I first started this book I wasn't invested in the least. Chad is a character that you rarely hear about in any of the other books. Besides the fact that he is a movie star, beautiful and very very rich. I started with the Perfect Game series and kind of shuffled around, but this was the first book from Samantha that I kept putting off because I thought it was going to be the least interesting. It took me until around 15-25% to really get into the book after that I couldn't put it down. I have to say their love story has to be my favorite of all (besides Baylor and Gavin). I don't know if its the fact that they have loved each other forever or that they are in two different worlds and make it work between the two of them. Also Mal is a saint and so pure that it makes this all so much better that she ended up with a movie star childhood friend even though they both lost their way one more then the other. This book clearly was above my expectations.. I shall never doubt you again Samantha Christy.

Great characters and love the dynamic of how they all intertwine.

Stone Promises 370 pgs KU **** Chad & Mallory
Great love story about childhood friends meeting up again and falling in love. It’s an easy read and the story flows very well. You won’t have to skip a single page because there are no filler pages and very little “talking in their heads”. It’s hard to put down but when you do, you just want to hurry and take a break so you can come back and read just a little more. I love having Chad’s brothers in the story, it keeps them present and not forgotten in the series. I do miss not having any of the family children in the story and how the couples live some of their lives with the babies and toddlers. That would make the books just a little more awesome. I still like the story and plan to read Kyle’s story next. There are a few sex scenes that are respectfully written and romantic as well but the story keeps you going enough you are fine with a few. Actually, I prefer it this way, I don’t like when a book is all sex scenes and very little story so this is nearly perfect for me. It’s a must read series, I don’t think anyone will be disappointed in this series.
