Na het bekijken van de tv-reeks en het lezen van deze novels ga ik toch eens werk moeten maken van het lezen van de boeken. Dan heb ik de reeks driemaal gezien op een andere manier.
After watching the TV series and reading these novels, I want to start reading the books.
This Graphic Novel thing is slowly growing on me. It basically forces me to slow down, to stop focussing on reading as many words as possible in as little time as possible. It makes me look at more than just the words. And what a pleasure it is to look at the artwork presented in this graphic novel. There are so many pages and drawings I fall in love with! If I make time to really look at the artwork, I notice how there is a story in it, even when there are no words. The expressions on their faces tell an entire story, just like the use of colors and shadows.
I most of all like how the characters are not influenced by the series and are clearly more based on the descriptions in the book. It gives more of a feel of how they are described in the novels, I still have to read those even though I have them on my shelves. I do think the artist mostly succeeded in making the men still handsome and the women still beautiful. Especially Catelyn and Daenerys are really well drawn and have those wonderful features making them attractive.
And although the book doesn't shy away from the nudity presented in the series and the books, it does so in a very decent way. Never do the drawings get distasteful or lose their beauty. And what can not be told with the art itself, is told with text. The text is very well readable everywhere, something I haven't seen everywhere. And the story makes a lot of sense.
I'm actually getting more and more excited about picking up the next installment.
I really like the graphic art work. Although I have seen the series and red the first book I must say this is a nice capture of what happens in a few pages. I also love the sight of the lannisters two younger children looking fat. It is indeed more normal that since they are spoiled they could do what ever they want and everyone let them. You see more characters and their intentions. Really interesting. I already borrowed the next two from the library because I knew I wouldn't be able to stop reading them.
