I bought this miniseries in its single comic book issues, but I chosen the #1 comic book issue to be able of making a better overall review of the whole story arc, since there isn't a TPB edition for this.
This review covers “Robotech: Invasion” #1-5.

ROBOTECH UNTOLD CHAPTERS
In this comic book miniseries, you get two untold chapters of the Robotech saga, from two different wars.
In each comic book issue, is parted in two: First, the story of how Lancer (from the Third Robotech War) came to Earth; and Second, the story of Mars Base One (aka Base Sara) (from the First Robotech War).
While both elements were developed in each war, and you get a pretty good idea of their backgrounds, certainly this miniseries takes you in a way detailed recollection of both tales.
LANCER’S STORY
Earth fell under Invid control and against all odds, the human race there wasn’t wiped out, but there is not doubt that the Invid Regis is who reigns on the blue planet now. The Flower of Life bloomed all over the world and now Invid Factories are everywhere, processing the precious flower and converting them into Protoculture, an energy source key to any Robotech-based mechas and vessels.
The Robotech Expeditionary Force, along with the Sentinels, are still having a war against the Invid Regent at Tirol space, so Admiral Hunter can’t send his whole fleet to liberate Earth, but fearing that he can’t leave his homeworld at its own luck, he sends the Tenth Mars Division in a Reclamation Mission to Earth.
This mission is some years before of the famous mission having Lt. Cmdr. Scott Bernard aboard. In this mission, with Commander Olivia Stahl leading the division, there is onboard, Lt. Lance Belmont, leader of Yellow Squadron. They trust to be able to liberate Earth from Invid dominion…
…but the real question is…
…is the humans there, really wanting to be freed?
An ill-equipped mission against a massive Invid force, along with humans now used to be under Invid’s fist, will turn a mission of hope into a real nightmare.
Lt. Lance Belmont will fall down in the middle of Uruguay, and only Carla Morales, a music teacher, will be willing to help him to hide him from the local human authorities (instated by the Invid) and the Invid enforcer mechas, where Lance will have to do anything to disguise himself with the hope that sometime, a real chance to re-engage the Reclamation Mission would present.
However, the Invid are cunning and insidious, and Lance will have troubles to distinguish who are really allies from real foes, if he wants to survive in this hostile new version of Earth.
MARS BASE’S STORY
Developing a functional new kind of energy source for the SDF-1 was crucial if the brand new RDF would be able to make the massive battlefortress in combat capabilities again, but since it was about breakthrough science with a high risk of something may go wrong, the UEG approves the energy project but it has to be done out of Earth…
…Enter: Mars Base One (aka Base Sara).
Karl Riber, one of the scientific disciples of Dr. Emil Lang, and Lisa Hayes’ boyfriend, is the first to enlist in this project. He loves Lisa, but it’s unavoidable to be away from each other, literally in two separate planets, if he wants to be useful in the new Robotech developing.
If the Reflex Furnace project can be done, the SDF-1 will have its precious energy source to be able to lift off once again.
However, if the Reflex Furnace is ever activated…
…can send out a distinctive energy signature to outer space…
…something that any Zentraedi battle cruiser can identify as a solid lead to the whereabouts of the lost Zor’s battlefortress!
