There's no way out when it comes to loving who you love...
Abandoned at birth, Perry Ortiz vowed never to turn out like his deadbeat parents. He didn't have much growing up, but he made it through with the love and support of his aunt Lola. At the age of sixteen, he did what he needed in order to help his aunt financially which led him to meet the love of his life Alicia Stone. She made his heart race with just one glance. The brown skin beauty captivated his thoughts the moment she smiled his way. Alicia was his soulmate but nine years later everything came crashing down around them. One heated argument ruined everything they'd built together, leading him in the arms of another woman, Lorie Valentin. His world slowly started to shatter into pieces after a one night-stand sparked the beginning of his misery. Now in a loveless marriage, Perry tries to make sense of what his life has become.
Do you believe a man can be emotionally, verbally and physically abused? Neither did Perry as he tries to find the man he used to be?
Is there a second chance at love when someone refuses to let go?
I married my best friend, the love of my life, we have two beautiful daughters, and I love serving my country. On my spare time, I love scribbling and making my words come to life. I love writing romance stories about couples that go through trials and come out stronger. Love is never easy, but it's worth all the hard work. Women aren't the only victims of domestic violence. Men are as well. we don't hear about it as often as we do about women because men very rearly report it. Some thought Perry was weak because he was abused by his wife, but in reality he is a very strong man because he didn't hit her back. Perry knew he could severely hurt his wife had he struck back, so he continued taking the abuse and never retaliated. Lorie had some serious issues and took it out on her husband.
Even though they were not together I truly believe that Alicia saved Perry. Like most women who are victims of abuse and don't leave their abuser, I believe that Perry was a man who would have continued to stay but not for the sake of his wife...
Ancelli conveyed very well that women aren't the only victims of domestic violence. There are those heart jerking moments as I have come to expect from Ancelli, those keep you at the edge of your seat moments that I love when I'm reading a good book. I loved P&A's story.
"How did it happen to me? How did I get here? I must keep this from my children. If people find out they will say I am weak." Those were all comments that were made not by the heroine but the hero in this awesome story. Perry was a strong alpha male who was in love with Alicia since he was 17. However, after there relationship hit a couple of severe snags, it all fell apart. Alicia had fallen in love with Perry when she was a cashier at her 1st job. A driven self confident lady who had dreams, but got side tracked after she fell in love. Theirs is a story of what happens when you don't communicate enough. Perry married a woman who manipulated and reigned down terror in her household. She was a product of abuse in her childhood. An unlikely person becomes the victim in a marriage of convenience. Can Perry escape? Will Alicia be able to right a wrong committed so long ago? Secrets are revealed and a life is lost because persons looked the wrong way..
Great read, that kept me on the edge of my seat and rooting that love and God would make a way out of a possible no win situation...
This is by far Ancelli's best book. Men being the victim of domestic violence is a subject that's not often discussed. Ancelli handled this subject matter in a realistic way. While Perry was being abused, he never came across as a victim. His actions, or in this case in actions, were completely believable.
I truly did not like Lorie or Byron. However, they both fit the roles needed for this story. Although not explored, Byron should be a lesson to single mothers everywhere - be careful who you let in your life.
I also loved Perry and Alicia's love story. The things that happened between them showed their immaturity and later growth. There were a couple of times when I wanted to shake Alicia but Perry's relationship with Lorie helped explain Alicia's indecisiveness.
Ancelli never leads me astray. She knows how to tap into her reader's gamut of emotions. You can't go wrong with any of her books. If you've read all of her books then the name Andrew Johnston will be familiar, he makes a kick-ass cross-over appearance in this book. Better yet, read Andrew & Serena Johnston's story in 'Love in Strange Places'.
I absolutely loved Perry! Yes, he made mistakes, yes he shouldn't have said what he did to cause Alicia to leave, and yes he shouldn't have touched Lorie at all but I still loved his character. He never hit that woman even though he beaten the dog mess outta her (I'm sorry I do not condone domestic abuse but when she kept on hitting him and then proceeded to try to go for the jugular with a champagne bottle? Yeah she should've been, like my husband says, curb stomped by that point) and he owned up to his mistakes and tried to make things right. He was very admirable. Alicia on the other hand had me feeling sometimey with her. Her character was ok and I understood she got mad when he told her what to do but at the same time I feel as though she start led the whole domino effect when I didn't tell me that she was thinking about applying for a job out of the state. I think that should have been discussed before she applied since she was not single, they were together with a child. This whole thing could have been avoided that she not done than then after Lorie became pregnant, that him to get married to her and then get mad about it! He did what you said because I feel like had she said I don't care we will work it out, he wouldn't never married that cretin, threats and all. I liked she finally realized some of it was her fault and her family and his reminder of that as well. It was on them both not just him. Plus I didn't like that I would think oh I really don't see myself with Byron like that but then go back and said I don't know what I want. I was obvious he was disgusting and only wanted her for sex just based off of their conversations and super obvious he did not have feelings for him at all, she just didn't get hurt again although she caused her own self to hurt in the first place. So now Alicia was ok and got better in the end but some of her choices are ridiculous and that fake relationship she had eith Byron was a joke and annoying at the same time. But it was a good and engaging read!!!
I have never read a book like this before. I have read some where the woman was abused but never a man. I admit that I thought Perry was weak at first, but man was I wrong. Perry was never weak. A man who could sacrifice and endure so much pain for his daughters is not weak. He is incredibly resilient. I have nothing but mad respect for him and cheered when he finally got his happy ending with Alicia. Loved this book!
Another awesome book. Ancelli weaves an emotional tale of true love. You will cry, get angry, and at times find yourself holding your breath. Abuse is not just committed by men against women. Woman can be and some are abusers. This story, while very entertaining , raises some serious questions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I wasn't sure about purchasing this book. But I must admit I enjoyed this story very much which is surprising since I usually try to steer clear of this kind of book. The book was a very good read to the point I will recommend it to friends and family as well as you.
I want back my money! The storyline was a good one but too many inconsistencies. That scene at the police station where they took the lawyers car but then reached home in Alicia's SUV. Then the hospital scene where Perry is supposedly in the ICU...too unrealistic. It left my head spinning!
This was one of the best books, that I have read! It was an emotional read. I felt for Perry, he was such an amazing man, who was married to a total lunatic!!! I hated that him and Alicia had to wait so long for their happily ever after. And for people who don't believe that men are abused, they are.
This the best on yet. I was up till 1 am finishing this book. I was on roller coaster ride. Even tho the heroine got on my nerves a bit. I love the hero. Continue to write and never stop.
That was a whole lot of crazy going on in the lives of Alicia and Perry. I couldn't take some of the twist and turns that they went through. What a crazy twist in the ending too. Well written.
I was a hot mess reading this one. I cried, laughed, cried and was angry on and off. True love connections between Lola and Miko and Alicia and Perry was beautiful! Sacrifices parents make for the love of their children is truly limitless
This was nothing short of amazing. You are a very talented author! I couldn't stop reading. I experienced the emotional spectrum with one. I would definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book! I even didnt mind when it got "churchy" at one point. This couple was very loving and said beautiful things to each other. I got my romantic fill with this one.
The themes explored in here are very well handled. Its not often I find books that explore the world of male domestic abuse. I applaud Ancelli for raising awareness and writing such a beautiful story.
Ancelli's No Way Out was what I expected, another fantastic read. Ms. Ancelli is such a talented writer that she turns everyday unfortunate situations into writer's gold. Her characters are always believable so readers can connect to their struggles and cheer them on to their HEA. The subject matter of this tale was unexpected and I honestly did not know if I would be able to understand the why's and how's of the characters actions. However, Ms. Ancelli wrote this tale with complete transparency and guided this offering into a surprising ending that shocked me. I happily recommend this work and anxiously look forward to whatever is next in line to be released by this super talented author. Loved it!
That is what Alicia Stone and Perry Ortiz found out. They had to be apart to realize that they could not live without each other even though Perry had married another woman out of obligation. He felt, as an abandoned child by his parents, it was his responsibility to marry his one night stand only to find out that was the biggest mistake he could have ever done. He was not aware of Lorie's stalker and mental problems with obsession of him until he was trapped.
This is a story that tells of the struggle a man has with being abandoned as a child and determined not to have his children be abandoned as well. He has to make a choice of his safety and sanity from his wife who turns out to be both verbally and physically abusive. He's a big man and how could anyone believe that he's being abused by his tiny wife. It doesn't fit the normal profile and that's the reason he never reported her. No one would believe him.
The author had me screaming at my kindle and crying. My emotions ran the gambit reading this book. It was well written and the timing in the plot was on point. I love reading a good suspense and mystery romance book and this one fit the bill. I never would have guessed the Lola and Miko connection. Great book and great read.
I've read all of Ancelli books and I love them. This book proved for me very though provoking in the sense that it's about domestic violence and not about a women being violated against. This is a whole role reversal and it's true men can become victims of domestic violence because you have some men that are just too gentlemanly to hit a women and sit there and take what that woman dishes out especially for the sake of the children in the house.
So this is the story of Perry, Alicia and Lorie. Perry and Alicia are high school sweethearts that after years together decide (unwisely) to call it quits after a misunderstanding. In walks Lorie and after a one minute wonder, Perry is forced to step up to the plate and take care of the baby that he has with Lorie. Unfortunately this is a disaster because he is still in love with Alicia. In the midst of all of this their are children involved, he has one child with Alicia and one with Lorie and unfortunately Lorie is very abusive to Perry and the children see what is happening, maybe not all of the abuse but some of it. I'm glad that it has an HEA but truthfully most domestic violent cases don't have one. This was a very good read.
This book was so vividly written that I lost myself into it a lot! The characters of Alicia and Perry made me feel like I knew them! Even the counter-characters were well written and made me hate them( Lorie and Byron). I loved each page and I can say this is a 'Must Read.' Get it!
