A psychopath has kidnapped Finn's twin brother and promises to infect him with the Flense, an artificial virus that turns the vulnerable into vicious killing machines with a taste for human flesh. But before he can rescue his brother, Finn is betrayed by someone close and is returned to the madman's compound, where he awaits a similar fate. For the other Bunker 8 survivors, it's a race against time to find the elusive twelfth bunker and the promise of a cure. Will they prevail soon enough to help Finn?
Saul is the specfic pen name of author Ken J. Howe, who writes in a variety of genres. He is a retired biotech entrepreneur with a PhD in molecular genetics and is a former combat medic.
What desert is near Canada ? Fuel up when you can. Don't wait. What's the machine that stops the wraiths ? Find Harper already. What about the mom at their cabin ? Didn't Harper come from Bunker 10? Didn't Williams arrive by boat from 10? Y'all is plural not singular.
This is the third book in the: Bunker 12 Book Series The Flense
Another action packed nail biter as more secrets are bought to light . We also learn more about the Flense although not nearly as I'd like I'm going on the fourth Book and it's still not clear what exactly the survivors are dealing with . We also learn that quite a few people that where in the bunkers either participated in the development and the research of the Flense . As there were so many stupid mistake made by the main characters that I wanted to scream why do they keep dropping the ball were it comes to Adrian WHY . I also want to say that I appreciate the short stories at the end we get to see events happened that we've only read about in previous books . It's great to find out what happened to Finn's mother and sister plus how Bix and his brother/Dad got into the Bunker .
More grammatical errors and spelling mistakes than I’m generally used to. Still a pretty good book if you can get past it. I’m enjoying this series a lot. Reminds me of the Children of the Mountain series by R A Hakok which I love.
Despite the errors I’d definitely recommend this series to anyone who like post apocalyptic books.
Spoilers below:
I don’t recall reading that Kari died or how she died only that she was gone. Gone where!? I feel like there was a section of the book missing after they left the Walmart. I was very confused. It’s possible I read it but didn’t retain it, but the only person I know they lost was Red.

This is not my typical choice of reading material and I rarely read books that are not stand alone. Having said that I was hooked on this series from Book #1 and look forward to Book #4 coming out. Having gone through the Pandemic this theme is not so far fetched. The books are so well written and fast paced that I hated to put it down. No detail is missed. They were worth every moment spent on reading each book. Kudo's to Saul W. Tanpepper!
THE FIRE HAD BEEN ABSOLUTELY terrifying, a living, breathing, vibrant thing that grew and grew until he thought it would consume him where he stood a quarter mile away. And for just the briefest of moments he remembered thinking that it might not be such a bad thing if that were to actually happen. Fire was cleansing. It burned away one's sins as thoroughly as water could. It left the soul pure. It tempered the alloy of one's resolve.
Another in the series - the plot progresses and the search for Harper and for Bunker 12 continues, all the while hindered by Adrian, the madman from Book 2. In this installment the group travels from Adrian's stronghold (which seems to be in Canada - something I missed earlier) to Salt Lake City and then on to Aragonite, Utah.
There seemed to be a gap between this book & book 2. While it was eventually mostly cleared up, I did fond book 3 to be slightly confusing. This story did not seem to flow as well & the companion story at the end created more questions than answers. Out of the 3 books I've read this was my least favorite.
Finn and the group set out to rescue Finn's twin brother Harper from the mad man Adrian and then find the 12th bunker and hopefully a cure from the Flense. Will it all go according to the plan, of course it won't. Loving this edge of your seat series.
Whilst I still sometimes miss the time in the bunker itself, I'm also still enjoying (for the most part) the ride we are taking with this group.
I say for the most part because it is another story which illustrates that despite everything else going on, the biggest danger is usually from one's fellow humans.
I remember books 1&2. And with the final book #4 out, I figured I should re-read. I'm glad I did.
Control picks up exactly where Condemn ends. You follow the characters through a mostly dead world. You met new people, but more importantly, the end is where Saul kicks you. Thankfully I don't have to wait to see what happens! :-O
The characters we love are back and into some serious situations! I love these characters and the series. If you haven't read the Bunker Series do yourself a favor and grab book 1!
