Quick Summary
Sonya Savonski isn't afraid of taking risks and she's taking some big ones during this year's fishing season in South Naknek, Alaska. Not only is she going to continue with the family's tradition of set netting, she's also going to captain a drift boat and fish out in the open sea. This is her first year heading the family's commercial fishing business, taking the reins from her grandfather. Her decision to use both fishing options is controversial enough but she's also the only woman leading a drift boat crew.

The issues
Alaska State Trooper Garrett Hunt decides to join the Alaska Wildlife Troopers during the season as a chance to get out of town after he lost his opportunity to pursue a relationship with "friend with benefits" Mel Bennett (see my review of Edge). He meets Sonya as soon as he lands and it's an immediate attraction...that's before she learns he's a "fish cop." By then, it's too late as they're both hooked. Things get dicey when Sonya becomes a target and is the victim of numerous incidents of sabotage, some life threatening.

What I enjoyed
As with the previous story, I learned quite a bit about the rudiments and perils of commercial fishing in the Bering Sea as well as the realities of life in this Alaska region. It's fascinating and when you overlay this backdrop with an eclectic cast of characters and exciting action, I was hooked. I had a clue as to who was behind the sabotage but there was a surprise twist that I didn't foresee. And, Sonya has an ex-boyfriend on the scene who wanted to remove the "X." I had a love-hate thing going with Adrian throughout the story. But Sonya and Garrett's romance was always the main focus and theirs was a fiery relationship.

The narration
I enjoyed Mia's narration much more this time as she better handled the suspenseful aspects of the story. She also did a great job distinguishing the characters, adding a unique flair to some of them. Her pacing was perfect.

The bottom line
I really liked the story, setting, action and romance. The balance between the suspense and romance seemed perfect and I never felt either was diminished by the other. The Alaska element continues to be a huge draw for me as this is new territory (pardon the pun) and the fact that I now know the difference between set netting and drift fishing feels good, too. It was exciting and I liked Sonya and Garrett's romance. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

(I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review)

This is a 4.5 star book by an author I have not read before, but having lived in Alaska myself and knowing how the Alaskan fisheries are handled, the author did a great job of giving us very likable characters and beautiful Alaskan settings. The main character, Sonja, is a very capable, independent woman who is strong-willed and knows how to handle working situations normally completed by men in an unforgiving Bering Sea. Her love interest, Garrett who is an Alaskan Fish and Game Trooper, has a hard time doing his job of keeping the fishermen inline, not only during the fishery happening around them, but also trying to keep Sonja safe when things start to go wrong and she is in danger. Ms. Helmer does a great job of keeping you 'hooked' to the very end in this romantic suspense I highly recommend.

Suspense, murder, men in sexy uniforms, sexual tension from page 1 and a hot headed woman. That pretty much sums up this book. If you are fans of fishing shows you'll recognize the terms and even The Time Bandit makes a cameo. I learned a lot about fishing along with a fantastic story. Details leave you wanting to travel to Alaska and find your own "fish cop"/trooper. If I wasn't married to a sheriff already, with 2 kids, I might consider the adventure. Great read Tiffinie! Get back from your own fishing trip so we can read Shiver.

Review to follow on one of the Best Books I've read this year!!!

It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve read HOOKED by Tiffinie Helmer but I can still remember everything about this book. HOOKED is the second book from the Romance on the Edge series, EDGE being the first Book. While HOOKED can be read as a total stand-alone, I would high recommend reading EDGE. Not only does it take place in one of my most favorite area in Alaska, Homer, it is another fantastic enthralling romance story. Ms. Helmer does such a magnificent job describing the area that you will feel like you have actual been there yourself and the suspense will keep you on the “EDGE” of your seat!

OK…back to Hooked, this time Ms. Helmer takes her readers west of Homer, towards the Bering Sea. Yes, this is the same place the popular TV show Deadliest Catch is filmed, only this time the Captain of the fishing boat is a young women, Sonya Savonski. Her family has been fishing these waters her whole life and now she is ready to prove that she has what it takes to fish with the Big Boys. Sonya is no fool, she knows exactly how dangerous these waters can be, she lost her parents and twin sister many years ago to the deadly waters.

The story opens with Sonya picking up her fishing crew, her grandparents, from the tiny remote airport. Along with her grandparents, the small airplane also had another passage, Garrett Hunt (who we met briefly in Book one, Edge). Of course, grandpa zeroed in on him almost instantly as a potential husband for his granddaughter. The moment Sonya and Garrett meet, the chemistry between them starts to sizzle, until Sonya discovers that Garrett is a “Fish Cop”. Alaska State Troopers and Fisherman have a long history of not playing nice together, so imagine Sonya’s horror to find out her attraction is to the enemy.

Not only does Sonya have her hands full with her growing desire for the fish Cop, there is Aidan, the object of her past affections. His family has been coming to the Bering Seas every year for as long as Sonya’s family. Therefore, in a sense, Aidan and Sonya grew up together. They had a summer romance the last year that ended badly after Sonya informed Aiden she planned to captain her own ship this summer. Now Aiden has every intent on making it up to her and show Sonya that he is a different man, willing do whatever it takes to get her back in his arms.

Sonya is one headstrong, independent, and very capable woman, who totally has what it takes to captain a ship and keep up with the “good old boys club”, 'til one by one mysterious accidents start happening. Can you guess who is called in to investigate these accidents? Yes, our hero Garrett. Watching these two characters go head to head was a sheer joy. I love to see women who can stand her ground, even if she is being a bit pig headed at times. I thoroughly got a kick out of the constant bantering between Sonya and Garrett.

Garrett has a strong hunch that these incidents are no accidents and that someone is out to sabotage Sonya and her crew, but Sonya won’t hear of it. She can’t wrap her head around the fact that someone would want to harm her or her family, until the truth is staring her in the face. One of the things I respected about Sonya, she knows when to throw in the towel and wasn’t ashamed to ask for assistance when she finally came to the realization that she indeed did need help.

Will Garrett be able to get to the bottom of who is out to cause Sonya harm? Will Aiden be able to convince Sonya that he’s a changed man, deserving of a second chance? Will Sonya be able to finish the fishing season safely and with her heart in one piece? I can happily say, yes, all these questions are answered and more.

Ms. Helmer was woven an marvelous story, that kept me engaged and intrigued up to the very end. Just as with EDGE, by the time you are done with HOOKED, you’ll feel like you just came back from your very own adventure on the Bering Sea.

Tiffinie Helmer certainly has a way with her stories she sets in Alaska. I have to say , it certainly is one place I’d love to visit one day.

Being a Fisherwoman herself, fishing the Alaskan seas, we can see as a reader, Tiffinie’s passion for what she does. She puts forth enough vivid details, to give the reader exactly what they want, without to much and supplies us with an array of enough in-depth surroundings to get a gist of where the story is set, and what is entailed when Sonya fishes the Alaskan waters.

Hooked will definitely have you hooked till that last page, filled with suspense, romance, and a killer on the loose, I was anticipating who it was and what was going to happen. I certainly was on the edge of my seat. The romance – suspense, and intrigue was well executed to give the reader enough of everything in this story.

Garrett is a fish cop – ooops a trooper ( lol ) and a hot sexyliscioius one at that ( grins ) – and upon meeting Sonya he was starry eyed and curious. It seems that with Sonya’s on a mission to make this the best season yet, someone is out to sabotage her boat and kill her. Garrett takes it upon himself to keep an eye on her, and this is where the sparks begin.

Sonya is one strong willed woman, I loved her character. She is a take no shit kinda girl, independant, and kick arse. Even with her sad past, she is strong enough to survive. This I love in a character !

The chemistry between Garrett and Sonya is smoking hot – I enjoyed the banter – the passion and my favourite quote * Ready to board * Grins.

I loved Sonya’s collection of fish attire = the different sayings some where really clever and I had to cackle to myself along the way.
Tiffinie Helmer has created a story that is both emotionally engaging and delightfully entertaining, suspenseful, riveting, passion filled and downright on the edge of your seat.

It will carry readers along effortlessly keeping them intrigued till the very end. I have to say I am left wandering about a certain few aspects , but the author has informed me ( quiet ) vaguely ( lol ) I will find out in the next book..

This author does such an amazing job bringing her characters to life and making her readers care about them, root for them and want to know more about them. Other aspects of the book are served as enhancements of the Alaskan wilderness. Breathtakingly beautiful and wild and untamed in many aspects.

A must read series. ! I eagerly await Aiden’s book * Shiver *

Sonya Savonski survived the boat explosion that killed her mother, father and twin sister fifteen years ago, since then she's raised her brother Peter and returns to the Bering sea every year for two months to fish for salmon, making her the only female captain. This year her plans are going to upset alot of people and judging from the number of accidents someone is really unhappy or is it more than that is someone actually out for blood. Into this mix is added a lifetime friend who became a lover last year before things went sour and they split up but is the attraction still there and then the sparks fly when Sonya meets the very attractive former navy seal Garrett who just happens to be working as a fish cop this year.

This was a fabulous book it had great characters, love, attraction, murder, secrets and lies and mystery. To be honest when I started reading I didn't picture being in the Bering sea working hard fishing as the ideal setting for a romance but it was, I downloaded this as a free read but it's a book I would have paid for.

I'm adding this note since I've just checked out this authors other books and discovered that she also wrote Wild Men of Alaska which was a free download awhile ago, now this book I didn't like I found it boring and only made it through one and abit of the four stories, had I made the connection earlier I would most likely not have started this one and then I would have missed out, so if you tried and didn't like Wild Men of Alaska it's still, in my opinion worth giving this ago.

Trying to rotate between romance/fluff, historic fiction and maybe some non-fiction. This was my fluff break book. I'm a little biased toward things that take place in Alaska since I'm planning to head up there in a couple more weeks. I ended up really enjoying the story though. It was definitely a romance, but it had plenty of mystery to go with it. I had my suspicions on who might be involved, but honestly didn't know how it would work out until we got to the showdown. Then again, I don't try very hard to figure out mysteries ahead of time, what would be the fun in that. I actually hit the suspenseful part right around the time I wanted to go to bed last night. I admit, I stayed up way too late to find out what happened. If you would like a nice mystery with some romance and a fun setting in Alaska, I recommend this book.

I got this book as a free download and I absolutely loved it. It has everything you would want in a good book, a great plot-line, characters you can identify with, plenty of action and of course some steamy love scenes. I had a really hard time putting it down and it kept me guessing until the end who the real villain is. It is the second book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone book without any problems. I would still recommend you read the first book just because it is a great read as well. Tiffinie Helmer has become one of my favorite Authors and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I loved this book!
I was definitely hooked. Pun absolutely intended.

Sonya and Garrett are perfect for each other, their feisty attitudes are a match made in heaven, and you can't help but to root for them.

This book has it all. It's funny, it's a bit scary, it's got a bit of mystery, and it's got it's love story.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a romance story that's a bit outside the usual.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Sonya Savonski knows what she wants and is determined to get it. After taking over her family's fishing operation, she expands by buying a new drift boat. One that will bring her the fish when netting isn't enough. That ruffled more than one feather around her fishing community. Drifters and netters don’t mix and the combination she was forcing on others was sure to bring her heat. She just didn’t expect that heat to land her family in the hospital or her in the deadly frigid waters of the Bering Sea. She had been there before and was the only survivor of an explosion that killed her parents and twin sister. Alaska State Trooper Garret Hunt knows Sonya wants nothing to do with him. Fish cops aren't any fisherman's favorite person, but she needs him. Badly. As assaults on the Double Dipping keep on piling up, Garret knows is just a matter of time before the killer that is stalking Sonya gets to her. But he will have none of that. Determined to keep her safe, he will blur the lines and protect her even if from herself. While the attraction between them is undeniable there is another sniffing around and if Garret wants to claim her, he will need to shed more than his uniform… Sonya's past and present mingle in this tale of love, betrayal, murder and mischief. A mystery with enough passion and drama to keep readers turning pages until the end.

A good romantic suspense although I figured out whodunnit early on. I thought it was a bit long - there were really too many 'accidents.' A little editing out of some of them would've made it a stronger story.

And I was bothered by how antagonistic the fisherfolk were to the 'Fish Cops.' Especially Sonya. There really wasn't any background given as to why it was such a contentious relationship. She's a music teacher who fishes a few weeks a year. Why would she hate the wildlife cops so much?

4 stars. Garrett an Alaska state trooper is spending the season overseeing the fishing boats in the Bering sea. Sonya is captain of a drift boat and starts to get far more than she bargained for when a killer sets his sights on her. Who wants her dead and why? Another good suspenseful novel from the author of Edge. This has plenty of on the edge of your seat action and adventure as well as a budding romance between Garrett and Sonya. Good recommended read.

I really wanted to like this story but the h was obstinate to the point of being TSTL several times in the book. Please authors, making the heroine stubborn to the point of stupidity does not make them tough or independent, it just makes them make stupid decisions. She improves towards the end but it is hard to get past how many bad decisions she made just so people would see her as tough.

Better than the first, but with a premis that I just didn't get. So the main character wants to fish two types of sets and wants to hang out with the fishing cop. SO????? It was well written and a good narration so that made up for a plot that didn't make sense for someone who lives in the lower 48.
